We enjoyed two excellent dinners at the Terrace Restaurant. A special mention for our young server Harry who provided excellent and friendly service he was open he was a recent start but his desire to be the best he could be shone through and he had a very positive personality which made the whole experience very enjoyable. Management take note he is a keeper!

Where to start? The food was well below standard, Fish and chips with peas, £49.50 for two, It was absolutely terrible to taste, the chips were the thinest I've ever come across like these little packets of mini chips, The fish was just warm and tasted terrible so we left most of our dinner and went into Crieff village and he'd a meal. Went to the spa next morning to find they were charging 90p for hot water for a drink. The room had a smell of dampness and a funny smell, it was meant to be a deluxe room, it was anything but deluxe. Overall it was not an enjoyable stay.

Today I took my Mum for lunch at The Terrace restaurant. She’s in a wheelchair and the staff were all very accommodating. There was plenty of space and the view of the gardens was calming. The lunch was delicious! We shared a mixture of starters and really enjoyed them. We were served by a lovely waiter called Ahran. He was so friendly, helpful and attentive and made the experience even better! Thank you to him for a great day!

Very much enjoyed our few days at the Hydro. Good selection of activities to do, we took part in shooting and had a great instructor though I forgot to get his name. Great surroundings and stunning views from the rooms. Loads of trail walks to do and kind of place you can spend as much or as little as meets the wallet. Food was great in both restaurants. Pool was just ok busy with kids but expected at a family hotel. Great night away

This is a great resort for families. The hotel is beautiful, if a bit tired in places, with great staff and some nice views. There are lots of activities if you are able-bodied and lovely grounds to walk around (or wheelchair) if you are not. The only thing that lets it down is the food and extortionate prices on drinks. Dinner in The Terrace restaurant on the first night was a complete let-down for us. It has a noisy atmosphere with people wandering through to get to the Italian restaurant and bringing away pizzas. The menu is fairly unappealing, more like pub grub than anything fancier, but the prices don't match pubs and the food doesn't either. A very soggy tomato bruschetta with too much balsamic vinegar drizzled over was priced at £8.95. The sea bass with brown shrimp and a few greens was £21.95 while my fillet steak with fries, a mushroom and a piece of tomato was priced at £32.95. Both meals were lukewarm including my fries, whilst my steak, which was supposed to be cooked medium, was still oozing blood and very chewy with sinew. My own butcher supplies better fillet and I actually cook mine better, letting it rest properly. Our lovely waiter, Johnathan, did take it away for me and brought it back re-done with fresh fries (hot this time) but it did not help the quality of the steak. The peppercorn sauce priced at £2.95 was tasteless. I could give the chef a recipe for a better one! Breakfast was the dreaded buffet, which I hate. The food again was all lukewarm and the so-called scrambled eggs were rubbery. I know it's a huge hotel and buffets would seem to be easier for staff to cope with the amount of people going through, but they are dreadful in my opinion. All the personnel try their best and are very helpful and pleasant but, for me, the food lets this place down. We didn't stay for the second night and we won't be back.

Just spent a rather lovely three nights at the Hydro. Our room, a "feature double" was great, good size, very clean and views to die for - we didn't need a television Spent a couple of hours in the Victorian Baths, it does cost extra but was worth it. On to the Spa and had the best massage and facial ever, Iryna was brilliant, gave me so much information and never pushed the products, which I have experienced in the past (in the end, I did treat myself) On to food, we had dinner in Tiffin and although I can't usually handle anything too spicy, I can't praise this highly enough......you must try the Prawn Malvani Fries, just amazing! Onion Bhajis? you can get them anywhere, but they won't taste this good. We also had the Lamb Rogan Josh and Tandoori Chicken with Lemon Rice. To wash it down, I had an 1881 Tiffin Gin, with botanicals including cumin and cardamom, really different and really tasty, so much so that I bought a bottle! Front of house staff were very helpful too, we will be back, thank you

The lads teaching both were engaging and fun. The hotel did seem to be struggling with staff shortage but never let it show on their faces or service. Bingo beats at night was lots of fun before dinner. Would happily return

I would definitely recommend a visit, you won't be disappointed.

We have just returned home from a 5 night stay in the family apartment room. The room was located in the main hotel building, it was a little tired with wear & tear however the layout suited us really well. Our children had their own bedroom which was separate to the main bedroom/living space. We also had daily housekeeping with fresh towels etc. The only downside no AC & it was boiling! We did have a fabulous stay & will definitely return. It was worth it just for the daily childcare alone! The evening entertainment both our children (5 & 2) loved. The staff were all friendly & welcoming. We didn’t pre book anything other than the daily childcare, a daily swim slot & breakfast each morning. This never caused a problem for lunch or dinner, we could always get a table. The adventure Glen was good value, as a hotel guest you get a second day entry free. Our children also enjoyed the soft play & little country, neither were bookable & free to use.

Stayed two nights for a works conference. Overall the decor of the entire place needs a serious refresh. Carpets are faded, velour chairs are scuffed, walls are streaked and tired. There’s also no air conditioning in the bedrooms and so, even in low twenties temperatures, it was very hard to sleep. Provides fans are really noisy and windows are old and not all open properly. Catering for the conference was average and high on salt. No veggie options and no dairy free. Training rooms are at least air conditioned, but presentation equipment suffered from feedback issues. Organisation was poor. Booked in for two nights, I had my room changed mid-booking and the staff packed up my things and moved them without telling me, which was incredibly intrusive. The front desk didn’t know what had happened to my bags. I was moved to a terrible single bed room (also very hot), so if you’re trying to book for a work event be aware that room allocation/quality can be wildly uneven. Wouldn’t use again. I guess it’s ok if you book a single in full knowledge of what your getting, but this is one of the worst work conference facilities I’ve used in a while.

I've eaten in the best restaurants in the world. I also lived in Mayfair for many years; a place with an abundance of great restaurants. It would appear the Tiffin management team have managed to hire an extremely good Michelin Star Chef out of London. The food was utterly amazing. I had the king prawn starter, followed by an authentic lamb Rogan Josh. My wife also had the king prawn starter followed by a seabass dish. Both dishes were a taste sensation!! The sheer number of flavours came together beautifully. The king prawn starter had just the right amount of star anise floating around the dish as well. What a meal. The service was also fantastic, we were served by Ali, who was very friendly and attentive. My child dropped her fork and within seconds a new fork appeared at the table. In addition to that, the Chef ( Manos) found the time to come out and talk with us. He was a very humble person, explaining his background and his approach to his food creations. Finally, the manager (Namik) I really loved this guy, he is so professional, yet friendly. Thanks a lot Namik for putting in place a great team, and a great restaurant.

Booked with the inefficient app then chaos on arrival as staff merged our tables on the system with other tables booked at a different time. Food was mediocre - there are 2 i Italian restaurants in Crief. Accoutics terrible so a sort of loud and echoey blare. Air con on full so condensate dripped on the table and despite it being a heatwave two of us had to get coats to wear to eat. Then a complete fiasco with the bill and staff blaming a customer for this taking no responsibility whatsoever to dissentangle the bills. Person they said asked them to merge the bills stated very clearly that he didnt. Average food terrible atmosphere horrible experience. Cannot stress enough try the pizzeria 10 mins walk away. Horrible expensive night none of us had alcohol or desserts or starters still ended up shelling out more than 20 quid each despite most of us having 12/13 pound meals. Horrible horrible evening.

I visited Crieff Hydro for the very first time last week for part of the October school break with my husband, daughter and 5 year old granddaughter. We were all looking forward to it but I am afraid we were disappointed. Staff were not welcoming and friendly, it seemed like they just couldn’t be bothered. We realise things are different and very difficult due to Covid and the current circumstances but nevertheless it costs nothing to be friendly and helpful. We had requested adjoining rooms which we were given, they were nice and spacious, had a small fridge in them and plenty of drawer and wardrobe space. On arrival we were given two cardboard cups each and a couple of sachets of coffee and tea. We had to ask at reception each day for more. We ate twice in The Terrace where the food was fairly good though pricey for what it was but the service was definitely lacking - don’t know if it was staff shortage or just very slow and once again staff were mostly unfriendly and gave the impression that they couldn’t be bothered. We ate in Tiffin one night and the food was just ok and service very slow. We twice had breakfast in The Winter Garden as we couldn’t get booked in The Meikle, it was lovely in there, nice and quiet, not much choice though adequate. On the last morning we had breakfast in The Meikle where a very nice, friendly lady took us to our table and brought us tea and coffee. There was a lovely choice of hot food on offer which was nice. My granddaughter enjoyed the Kids Club very much, also the swimming pool and The Adventure Park which was really not much more than a play park but she still had fun. Not the best stay we have had but the weather didn’t help, it rained constantly the whole time we were there which was unfortunate! Don’t think we will hurry back though, sorry!

Stayed with the family and really enjoyed the visit. Lots of things to do, but this was hampered slightly by current restrictions as we missed out on booking swimming pool and horse riding. Had tea in the Winter Garden and it was fabilous - great cake and coffee and beautiful surroundings. The cabin we stayed in was very nice but a little too small for 3 adults and 2 kids. We completed online check-in to avoid going to Reception but the key wasn't left for us as the email stated it would be, so had to go into hotel and ask for it. Each member of staff we spoke to throughout the weekend was very friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay again but will be careful to book more appropriate accommodation next time.

We have stayed here before, at hotel & self catering, but not since Covid 19. All staff were great, amazingly patient with some bewildered guests. Breakfast was great, but lots of folks milling about, even though there was one way system. We stayed in hotel, we knew there would be no toiletries in room, but there was no glasses, cups, tea, coffee & milk. There was a kettle & hairdyer in bedroom. I asked at reception for glasses, I was told there was £3.50 charge, but if we bought drinks in restaurant we could take glass to room. Cocktails in Brassiere, were £7, same cocktails in The Meikle bar were £9. I have stayed at the Premier Inn, Perth during Covid & glasses, cups, tea, coffee, milk & toiletries were supplied in bedrooms.

We felt really safe during our stay thanks to the measures put in place by the hotel to protect guests against Covid 19.Check in was done efficiently and staff throughout the hotel were friendly and couldn’t do enough for guests. We had a view of the Perthshire hills from our bedroom which was lovely. We were able to easily obtain fresh towels from Housekeeping every day and supplies of tea/coffee and toiletries were readily available from reception 24 hours a day. We enjoyed delicious breakfasts served in the Meikle and lovely evening meals in the Terrace. Service in both restaurants was very good. The weather was a real bonus so we were able to sit outside with a glass of wine or two. The new decking area is lovely and patio heaters were a welcome addition in the evenings. This is our fourth year visiting and it’s a great family offering but the service is variable. Lovely food and service in the Terrace but The Winter Garden service is consistently terrible, especially relative to the prices. Action Glen activities are great. Riding school superb. The new addition of the play area is good but at £9.50 per child and £6.50 for a supervising adult, the price feels a bit steep. We were keen to make this an annual visit and a family tradition. However, even allowing for covid related service issues (maybe why they didn’t clear away our dirty dishes) we felt we over paid relative to the service. Given we also found the service levels poor last year, it might be worth exploring hotels nearby and using the activities at Action Glen.

After staying here in 2018 with family and having an amazing experience, I thought it would be the perfect place to return to with my boyfriend after lockdown however was extremely disappointed. Social distancing rules are not adhered to at all especially in the restaurant and during activities with staff wearing masks but only covering their mouth and taking them off to speak. During check-in we didn’t have our temperatures taken or were educated about the procedures in place to keep us safe. When we questioned a member of staff about this, we were told that the hotel feel taking temperatures is unnecessary as they prefer to trust their guests to keep safe. There was a one way system available which wasn’t adhered to by guests or enforced by staff. While waiting in line for breakfast, a staff member barged passed me, again an example of the poor social distancing and incompetence of staff. We went to go for a nice cocktail in the winter gardens as I had done so before however this is now not available and cocktails are only available in The Terrace. This was disappointing as it felt more of a restaurant than a bar area and had no atmosphere or warmth. We expected this to be a couples retreat as it was advertised however there was nowhere available to us to go for a quiet drink without large groups of children and families making lots of noise every night. This is not something I’d usually mind however we witnessed large groups pushing tables together with no consideration for others or staff helping out to manage the situation. This made us feel very unsafe and unwelcome throughout our stay. In addition we dined in The Hub, another disappointing experience. The first time we had ordered two sides and received a different selection to what we had ordered. This was accepted as a minor issue however the second time we went the same thing happened. After ordering a half pint of beer, we received and were charged for a full pint and in addition we ordered loaded fries as a side and were given normal fries. Throughout our stay it felt like staff were incompetent and not listening to us, many times seeing staff huddled and chatting together while we waited for someone to attend to us. I’d expect a lot better service from a 4 star hotel given the expense of the restaurants and I will not be returning.

Been visiting here for 13 years & had booked for a special birthday, family lodge break in June, but obviously had to be cancelled. Anniversary came along, just as hospitality sector could reopen, so decided to come to crieff hydro. Lots of changes because of covid19, but I also think there's lots of cutting back on their budget, but not on costs for their customers. NO tea/coffee sachets in your room, or toiletries due to covid they say.......Was told no kettle or hairdryer in room either, so went prepared with these, & they were there!Got free activities on welcome back stay, which you could choose to do. You could only book this between 5-6pm the night before. Big queue at the beginning, but we went about 5.45 & it was fine, only thing was, the only available slot for any activity was 8.30am, but this worked out fine for us, as we had a good walk up to the activity centre to do archery & air rifles, which was good & the instructors were fantastic, then back for our breakfast. You need to book timeslots for all meals taken.Breakfast at crieff hydro, used to be a highlight, but it was very poor. Fruit all packed together in plastic cups (due to covid), choice of cereal, 2 different yoghurts, hard pastries, porridge, croissants, toast & a fry up (fried eggs, bacon, sausage, mushrooms, beans, potato scones) they didnt do boiled or scrambled eggs due to covid we were told - really!!!!!Dinner only served in The Terrace (old brasserie), The Hub or murraypark hotel down the road. Food was just ok! A discretionary 10% is added to all your food bills & it is also a NO cash hotel, so you have to pay everything by card. Housekeeping didnt come into our room at all during our 3nt stay, but I did phone for clean towels & it wasnt a problem. Room was very hot & no fans can be given out, & it never fails when we are there - fire alarm went off at 6.45am & no staff even mentioned this!We found a lovely hotel down in crieff called The Tower, which had a great beer garden, & served fantastic food & at much more reasonably priced than the hydro.

This was meant to be special for my friend as part of her birthday treat. I have had morning coffee and cake in this hotel on two occasions and it was delightful. So when her birthday was approaching I thought a nice drive from Glasgow and afternoon tea would suit my friend just fine. Well disappointment was the name of the game. Probably one of the worst afternoon teas I’ve had. Stodgy rolls with curried egg mayonnaise no butter. Yuck. Two fingers of cucumber and cream cheese on white bread just ok. Ham fingers could have had more filling. Solid scone which could not have been eaten. Had to have this replaced with a heated scone which I shared with my friend. It was ok. Cakes were ok but not appealing to me. I was totally disappointed at this. Had to ask for more tea which was far hotter than or ofirst pot which was cold. I will never buy a deal again for afternoon tea. Dont offer deals if you give inferior products. Not doing hotel any favours. .

Great weekend away.Fri- Sun stay. Really great set up and plenty of places to eat and relax. Kids club was really good and we used this on two occasions (included in our stay). Drinks reasonably priced as well. Pool area really good and a huge inflatable slide a couple of sessions a day which kids had loads of fun on (our kids a bit young for it but other kids having a fantastic time). There’s a heated small pool which was brilliant for babies and young kids. Trialled the Victorian spa and this was lovely too (£12.50pp and you need to book) - strictly over 18’s. All staff were pleasant and especially the Romanian Waiter (sorry didn’t catch his name) in the Meikle restaurant. Food was lovely as well and we ate in both the Brassiere and the Meikle restaurants. The only negative point was food service was very slow. We had two lunches and two teas and for the lunches and one of the teas it’s was a very long wait for the meals - this is reason I’ve not given the hotel 5 stars. We will be back for another trip and hopefully food service has improved for a 5 star review!

Just spent a three day / two night stay at Crieff Hydro and it was simply awful. The attic room was well below the standards of previous visits and there are no words to describe the poor quality food, presentation and service in the Meikle Restuarant, only the Brasserie Restuarant and outdoor staff merit a mention, but the food quality in the Brasserie was only marginally better than that of the “main attraction” Meikle RestuarantBe prepared to pay over the odds for every little extra, they do no how to charge. We might have been unfortunate with our recent stay, but we did notice others having similar problems. We would ask Stephen Leckie to have a serious review of the quality offered by the Hydro (particularly in the Restuarants) before it slides any further.Ps We did refer our complaints to both the Restuarant Manager (Barclay Brown) and Duty Manager (Alistair) at the time of our stay.

Been regular to Crieff Hydro but not sure now if we’ll go back. We went recently and the prices have became way too inflated for the actual product. The restaurant prices are expensive and to be honest the food that’s served doesn’t reflect the price. We had a few issues during our most recent stay but when we mentioned it to various staff members they didn’t seem genuinely bothered, we got a half hearted shrug of the shoulders, accompanied by a load of waffle and no apology. As a family we’re very disappointed with how the prices for a room have now become so expensive. Also the attitude of some of the staff really was appalling. Not what we’ve came to expect from Crieff Hydro.

I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. We ordered soup, a cheese toasty and a kids portion of spaghetti. After 45min waiting I gave them a nudge and finally we had lunch. When the food came - it was really average. You will get better snacks and service in local cafes.Wouldn’t go back.

Fantastic venue for Christmas away, great location, very well maintained buildings and grounds, the food was fantastic, the staff all friendly and helpful, the activities were well organised and fun especially the Segway rides. When the owner walks in during Christmas lunch playing the bagpipes it tops off a fantastic experience. Highly recommend.

Our meal had been arranged weeks before, a family occasion. This was a treat for us and her parents, it was awful no meat was left, roast potatoes were disgusting, waited 20 mins finally they brought out some steak ( which was lovely ) in a flash no meat again, a disgrace, I believe the reason for this was they had 40% unexpected guests, but for a booking made weeks before and were faced with this is unacceptable. This could not have been cheap for my son and his wife.Ps. The bread pudding was lovely.Disappointed

Took our elderly aunt for afternoon tea for her birthday. We were all very disappointed with everything about it. We were crammed in at the back of the Winter Gardens. No finesse whatsoever, large scones piled on the plate, tasty enough. Sandwiches were fresh and the small cakes were alright, nothing exciting. When we asked for a box to take the balance of the tea away, we were told they had no facility to do this, I have been to quite a number of places for afternoon tea and in comparison this was very second rate and disappointing. Not what we were expecting from the Crieff Hydro.

We have had a lovely stay at Crieff Hydro in a lodge and had a few nice meals in the Brasserie & The Hub. We booked to eat at the Miekle during our stay and were all left feeling very disappointed. The service was pretty poor with long gaps between anyone checking or interacting with regards to drink and food service. Took nearly an hour for mains to arrive and when they did they were all incredibly disappointing and well below average. We sent back one dish - with its replacement arriving within seconds which made us wonder why the heck the original order had taken so long. Our polite request for some extra veg - our sons chicken dish turned up with 2 asparagus and a couple of bits of courgette making a very unappetising looking plate - was met with a face and eye rolling between two staff. Poor service and very unimaginative and tasteless dishes. Shame to have such an experience when the rest of the holiday (bar a crap sandwich at BaseCamp) was just lovely.

Facilities are great especially the Action Glen where staff were friendly and helpful . Main hotel lovely especially the winter garden . We ate at Piccolo also which was nice with good service . Hotel was busy but it’s a huge site so plenty of room for everyone. The Hub also good for older kids . All in all a lovely trip and we will back soon .

Booked for me and my husband and my mum and dad for a overnight stay. We booked a executive double room and it was on a sale deal so it was £125 for the room, breakfast and £21 to spend on dinner in any of the restaurants each with a glass of Prosecco. We arrived at 1.40pm and it was busy at check in. Eventually I got served and I could not understand one word the girl said her English was very poor. I was asked to pay £50 deposit per room which I vaguely remember from the last night I was here but still think it’s ridiculous. I’ve never been to any other hotel that asks you to do this. Anyway paid it and I had already pre booked the Victorian spa for 2pm and was told to come back after we had been to that. I was quite annoyed at this as all other guests were getting there room keys and it would have been nice to have been able to put our stuff in our rooms instead of having to go back to the car put all our bags back in and then come back in again to get our room keys. Made our way to the Victorian spa and was given towels, two for each of us. When I booked online I paid with my card so assumed that it was all organised. But when I got down there I was told I hadn’t paid yet. Now this is fine but this should have been explained when I booked as some people might go down there without cash or a card. The fruit used to be in the spa but have noticed it’s now in a basket next to the pool reception. Got down to the Victorian spa and there was quite a lot of people in there although there was dressing gowns, tea and cold drinks. Also remember you need a £1 for your locker. The spa was great jacuzzi, pool, sauna and steam room very relaxing and u have a two hour slot. There is also a room that you can do your make up and has hairdryers and straightners. Went back to reception and got our room keys wasn’t given any information, no map or a sheet with all the entertainment on it. Got to our room and my mum and dad were on a different floor. Have stayed in the Leigh building before in a executive room and it was fantastic. But This room was so underwhelming there was nothing nice or good about it. Have been to the hotel and lodges lots of times and have always had shortbread, Prosecco and a jar of sweets in the room this time nothing. The whole point of paying extra for a executive room but nothing was executive about it. Went to my mum and dads room and it was a executive room although with no extras was still a million times better and bigger than ours. Went to the hub and got three soft drinks and 4 packs of crisps £10.50. Played table tennis which is in dire need of repair, played pool again this costs money and snooker. Went for dinner at 6.30pm at piccolo can’t fault the service nor the meal although never got any Prosecco that we were supposed to. Then went to a quiz at 8pm there was only 3 other tables playing. Went to the bar after that got two bottles of coke £5.00. Went down to the cinema to watch black panther this was good although the air con was that cold had to leave half way through along with another 8 people. Slept fine and bed was comfy. Breakfast was good plenty of choice cereals, croissants, fruits, and a fill Scottish breakfast only thing I would say is the square sausage was not cooked. Had to sort out the bill with reception due to them charging everything to the one room instead of both. But overall apart from the spa and the breakfast we didn’t enjoy it as we have done previously and this will be our last time at this hotel

We were staying two nights for a special family birthday as a party of 8 adults and 5 kids. We ate in Meikle and the Brasserie plus used loads of the facilities - pool, gym, soft play, kids club etc etc. As a place in general it did the job well for us, the kids had a great time. Food was fine. But what stood out was the service - Garry in Meikle and Lina in the Brasserie in particular. Noting was too much trouble. Cheerful, helpful, we felt looked after. Was extremely disappointed with the quality of the room and the customer service so much so we left a day early leaving behind costs of a prepaid room at £289 a night. My firend raised her disappointment with the CEO and the management of the hotel and was offered 10% of another visit - like she wants that!!!! No offer of her money back despite repeated asks. We booked the executive double room not knowing that all executive double rooms were differant. It doesn't tell you that on the web site. Some rooms have a massive t.v with a walk in shower and his and hers sinks, basically its huge. Others are basic with a slight upgrade from a standard, only you pay the exact same. We were also told we can check in at 2pm but when we arrived we were told it would be 3pm, we were also told we could check out at 11am the following morning but the door went roughly 5 times so it could get cleaned. The room we book and got (no. 211) was'nt what we expected it was filthy and the room service was'nt that great either. We attempted to raise a comaint but there was nothing they could do and were not very apologetic. The water that came out the tap was not normal and still no apoligy, also the food in the picture that came to round about £60 was cooked wrong and looked and tasted like it was microwaved as it came in ten minutes. I dropped my phone behind the side bed cabinet and discovered that it had'nt been cleaned in a long time. Over rated hotel by far....

We had an enjoyable lunch at the Bein Inn. My partner said his burger was good, his purple coleslaw looked appealing and I have to say his chips (something neither of us is fond of) were probably the best we've had. I ordered a chicken fajita, which was the most unusual I've ever had: *everything*, including the rice (either pilau or basmati, not long grain as I'd expect), wrapped up in one big dod with three sauces on the side. It tasted fine and was filling, but looked tragi-comical. The young waitress warned us they had no avocados, but on questioning thought they may have guacamole; however it was substituted with some kind of chutney, which was ok if unconventional. On the plus side, it all seemed to have actually been cooked rather than banged into a microwave, which we appreciated. The service was good and friendly, and our food arrived in a timely manner, noting that we arrived at the beginning of Friday lunchtime when it was quiet. We're not in a hurry to go back, as the menu was limited and a bit overpriced, at least for my weird offering at £17. There seemed to be some renovation work going on in the entrance area, all good, but didn't add to the ambience. We'd originally looked into this for a Sunday lunch, which seems popular with others, would possibly try it for that in future.

Quality has really dropped here. We used to love the place and it was a real destination. However went today and coffee, from an automatic machine, was terrible, cakes didn't taste fresh. Staff were really disinterested, unhelpful and rude at times. Mid service, two staff stopped serving us, started talking about their weekend plans and then after a few minutes returned to serve us. They served us dairy milk when we asked for non dairy milk. The actual shop had no music or atmosphere. It feels that since 2023 the company has really went downhill. No dogs allowed, but food left on the tables which attracts wild animals in the cafe.

Last time I was here the fish and chips was really good. Afraid to say this time my wife had the fish and chips and it was cafe standard at best. I had the mac and cheese and I have to say this was the worst mac and cheese I have ever had in my life. Microwaved with what little sauce there was at the bottom of the bowl. The parmesan was probably fresh about a week ago and been sitting out since then. We won’t be bac. Pity as we are local. Staff (waiter, bar staff and receptionist) were pleasant enough though and can’t fault them at all.
32 Opinions
I would give two stars for the food and one star for table etiquette. We were unimpressed when we sat down to a table setting of basic low-quality, stamped-out flatware with sharp edges. Three of us ordered meat (duck, pork and beef), the other fish. No alternative, appropriate knives were brought to suit the food, nor was the cutlery replaced after the starter. There were splotches of dried food debris on the underside of all the placemats, which apparently never gets wiped off when they are stacked. The food itself was okay, but portions were on the small side and overpriced for what it was, e.g. two slices of duck breast, 1" slice of sea bass, very little vegetable to accompany. The chicken liver parfait starter was good but came with only three small slices of toasted baguette and bread was £6 extra. There was an abundance of wait staff operating on high-speed settings. We had trouble understanding what kept so many staff on the run (literally) given the restaurant was not full and could have been disruptive were it a romantic dinner for two. We just watched the show. Overall, a four-star restaurant should pay more attention to detail, quality and cleanliness, if it wants to have a four-star reputation.

Restaurant was closed. Alternative provision was a coffee van near the car park. The barrister seemed to be operating at half-speed. Perhaps the cold had got to him.
