We were a group of 4 friends who have eaten here many times but will not be back after this visit. we went for Sunday lunch. the menu online bears no relation to the single paper page we were given When the waitress took our order she too was obviously surprised by the menu as she didn’t realise that burger was on the menu & then told us that it didn’t come with any sides so chips were ordered to come with it. when the burger arrived it had chips included with it. as a vegetarian i only had the option of roast pumpkin which sounded nice. as it had no accompaniments i ordered a couple of sides. the pumpkin came & was a slice of roast pumpkin on purée pumpkin. The sides didn’t arrive, we asked 2 waiters where they were, no one came back to us. eventually when we had finished eating the sides arrived - the waitress (who seemed quite senior) was surprised we didn’t want them but said she would take them off the bill. the roast lamb was a very small dish. deserts were ok though only warm, the coffee was cold. Waiting staff walked by & ignored us even when we tried to get their attention. to add insult to injury our bill came with all the sides charge and a 13.5% service charge. sadly we won’t be back.

Having read the reviews, I was tempted not to go, despite having received a voucher for a 7 course tasting menu at the English Restaurant as a Christmas present. But I’m very glad I did. The food was very much at odds with many of the reviews. Flavoursome, refined, and well seasoned. Every course was spot on, and a couple of them (the trofie pasta and the dessert) truly memorable. Confident cooking too, evidenced by letting the core ingredients do the talking, with no unnecessary additions that do nothing for the dish. From what I could glean, there is a new chef there, who has come from a top restaurant. That certainly stacks up, as I know my onions from my shallots, and this chef can really cook. Good service from a young front of house team. I know how difficult it is to staff these places, but they were friendly and smiling, and that counts for a huge amount with me, so lots of latitude given for any minor deficiencies. So I suggest looking past the reviews, and giving it a try. Better still if you can get a discount deal for a taster menu (although might be difficult in the run up to Christmas) as I think the a la carte could get pretty lumpy. That said, even at full price, with cooking this good, you probably won’t be disappointed.

Our main corse was supposed to be pork wellington but they ran out of wellies so all we had was a piece of pork loin with a tsp of gravy on the plate and that was it no vegetables nothing else? Keep your money in your pocket it’s just not worth the money and the place is tired and doesn’t feel clean.

First ever review as normally I'm pretty easy going about life. However our visit was so awful that I thought I should leave a review. We booked a table as a special treat for our teenage son's birthday. Service was very poor- if the waitress could have cared less I imagine she would have. Food was awful. Service was slow. Overpriced!

We came as a family and had the 3 courses for £35 menu. This seems good value, but on review, I actually think it was overpriced. The starters were tasty, roast was good but the portions are fairly small. Dessert was really awful - the sticky toffee pudding in particular had the texture of rubber and the ice cream it came with had completely melted. It had clearly been left on the side for too long. Service was polite and professional, but very slow. I don't think it warranted the £40 service charge added ontop. Sadly I won't be returning.

We checked into the Crazy Bear yesterday, and while the staff at the reception were lovely and the hotel itself exuded opulence, our experience was quite disappointing. The absence of tea or coffee in the bedroom, a standard feature in most hotels, was the first letdown. Additionally, the two cans of water provided were not chilled, and there was no fridge in the room. Having forgotten my toothbrush, I was surprised to find that there were no complimentary toiletries, including a toothbrush or even a tissue box, in the bathroom. Given the price of the room, these basic amenities should have been provided. The lack of cold drinks forced us to order room service, resulting in a charge of £5 for a bottle of water and £5 each for small bottles of lemonade. As someone who has stayed in luxury hotels around the world, these basic conveniences are usually expected without additional charges. Overall, the experience did not meet the standards one would expect for the price, leaving us quite disappointed.

We went here yesterday (22nd) for a friends special birthday meal - having been numerous times before we thought it would be perfect for such an occasion - how wrong we were! The bar that always used to be buzzing was empty, when ordering drinks they came back within seconds wanting payment - we asked to put on our table and they outright said no and stood over us until we had paid! The meal … I’m Gluten intolerant so when ordering i advised them of this. 5 started came out and about 10 mins later my 2 scallops came out… someone else had requested something different with their meal and yet the orginal dish was bought out. When question ‘ well what do you want to do about it’ Mains - now steak should be easy, this was not easy! First of all my dinner came out after everyone else’s again, then they tried to tell my steak was a sirloin, when you could clearly see it was rib eye! We had a discussion about that and they took it back saying I’d have to wait another 15 minutes - by this time everyone else had almost finished theirs - I told them to cancel the order! Then a steak appears - rare! Not how I asked for it at all - again I told them to take it away. We said again how it was for a big birthday and felt the evening had been ruined. They bought out a large plate with very small pieces of cake on it and a candle with happy birthday on it - nice gesture we thought! Then saw it on the bill for £11 … to which they quickly removed it. A table behind us also had the same experience, they walked out after their starter! Such a shame that this place has gone down hill like this.

Booked for a 50th birthday with friends, the food didn’t come out at the same time, our Muscles were not clean and we had send the steak back because it was not sirloin which was ordered, after a debate on the cut of meat they cooked another steak, right cut but this time rare! My friend ended up with no food as she lost the will by this time; to top it all off they tried to charge for the birthday plate. Such a shame, a lot of money spent for a disappointing experience

3 couples dined together at this restaurant for a 50th birthday celebration. We met for pre-dinner drinks in the bar which was very quiet for a Saturday evening. They no longer let you transfer the bar tab to the table, so this had to be settled before moving in to the restaurant. Service started off well enough, but unfortunately for one of our group (who is Gluten Free), her experience was less than ideal. Her starter (scallops) came out as the rest of us were all finishing ours (despite being chased a number of times). And as for her main course (sirloin steak), they served a rib eye. She rejected it as that wasn't what she ordered. A few minutes later the wait staff returned trying to return the steak and argue that the cut was indeed a sirloin. Sorry Crazy Bear, but you are crazy if you think that we can't tell the difference between 2 very different cuts of meat. Off they went again to cook a Sirloin to medium well. 15 minutes later a medium rare sirloin was delivered to the table. By this time, most of the rest of us were finishing our main courses and again this steak was rejected and we asked for this persons meal to be taken off the bill. Not ideal as that person was then hungry and later went to Maccy D's on the way home. My wife and I both had the same starter and main courses. The starter was OK, but didn't seem as fresh as I would expect it to be (cod scotch egg with chorizo). Our main course of Mussels was again OK at best. The mussels hadn't been cleaned properly and were gritty and the size of the mussels was small (cheap). I would also argue that the weight (1000g) of mussels per person is not what was served. We eat a lot of mussels and at best that was 500 to 600g. Maybe 1000g if you add in the weight of the crockery and the sauce. We didn't bother with dessert as it would have been too much of an ordeal. So for 2 courses and a couple of rounds of drinks and 1 bottle of £35 wine, the bill came to £100 per head (between 5 as 1 meal was deducted). And my wife and I left still hungry. All 3 couples have visited the Crazy Bear (Beaconsfield and Stadhamptom) in the past. Unfortunately based on this visit, none of us will be returning. If service and food quality remains at this level, then I'd be suprised if they are still in business by the end of 2024. It's a shame as the Crazy Bear had a great reputation for atmostphere, service and quality food. It's never nice to leave a negative review, but the management really need to up their game as frankly there are much better establishments to spend your money at.

Went for afternoon tea with my friend. Was greeted and sat down. Water was not offered to the table and we had to ask for it. After a few cups of tea, we were told that more tea would mean being charged extra to our bill. This is not stated anywhere. The cakes were not explained to us and we had to ask for more of everything (cutlery, milk, tea) Would have preferred more attentive staff to look after us. The girls were walking around and then all staff called to a 5pm briefing so no staff to be seen. We paid for the bill and were not asked how things were or if anything was wrong. We asked where the toilets were and had no directions. We were then questioned if we had paid our bill? This was extremely rude. As if we would get up and not pay? Rather odd. No one at the door to thank us either.

After reading some of the reviews I wasn't expecting the best but couldn't have been more surprised. Really are you just writing things to get a freebie? The service from start to finish was exceptional, welcomed on arrival we wanted to have a drink before dinner, no problem at all. Served as soon as we found a seat, lovely friendly staff. We were a little late for our dinner but no problem at all. We had the taster menu and every dish was fully explained to us. We were not hurried to have our free champagne we took our time over our meal and had a really fantastic evening. My only ever so slight criticism was the cheese course was not to our taste but overall it was a brilliant experience and the staff were simply lovely.

Thai meal was stunning with great service from Nina After dinner bar service was shocking went to room early as we were fed up waiting to get service. Breakfast was nice with good service. On checking out complained about room and bar service was offered a complimentary tea or coffee No thanks. It wasn't until I returned home and checked my bill there was a service charge on every drink and food utterly shocking given the service received on over priced drinks Total service charge £36.33 My advice is don't use this hotel a pure rip off charging 5 star prices for 1 star service

(The service of nowadays)Worst table and restaurant experience of 2020.Absolutely no apology from the duty manager or an offer of free drinks.Anyone going to this restaurant this time of year double check that you haven’t been given the number one useless table. No rush to go back Hawksmoor any day in Covent Garden.

I read the other reviews on here before visiting and wasn't expecting much but the entire experience completed exceeded my expectations. Most importantly the quality and taste of the food was absolutely worth the price and to be honest, better than other Michelin awarded restaurants nearby i.e. Sindhu, Hand & Flowers in Marlow. We went on Saturday evening and the restaurant was packed and clearly popular. The hotel / restaurant is very decadent with a high-end feel although not snobby. All the waiters and waitresses we encountered were the loveliest I've ever met. We opted for the a la carte instead of tasting menu and decided on small plates to share / try different dishes. Between 2 people we ordered the 1. seared west coast king scallops, 2. scorched galician octopus, 3. white crab meat and atlantic prawn sliders, 4. grilled lobster tail, 5. confit gloucestershire old spot belly, 6. herb-crusted welsh badger faced lamb kiev, 7. pan-roasted lemon pepper duck. The menu advises 4/5 per person but honestly 3/4 is more than enough. If you get the lamb kiev in particular then it's game over because it's a massive croquette full of shredded lamb inside i.e. portion size like a main. For dessert I asked the lovely waitress for her recommendation and she suggested the honey blondie. I went with this and it became my favourite of the evening - definitely get this if you visit! In my opinion the MUST GETS are:> Scorched octopus with confit chorizo, burrata and padron peppers - crunchy but tender octopus paired with spicy chorizo and soft burrata, such a good combo> Confit gloucestershire old spot belly with bbq glaze and asian sesame slaw - they give you a massive chunk of pork belly with sizeable amount of fat that just melts in your mouth> Honey blondie with popcorn ice cream - a very dense honeycomb cheesecake/biscuit cake as well as popcorn ice cream (!!), any child's dream (and who isn't a child when it comes to desserts)Overall bill came to c.£130 for 2 people but we definitely over-ordered. Nonetheless, this price was completely worth it from the portion sizes to the taste and ambiance of the restaurant as well as broader hotel. Not only were we absolutely full in the end but we thought it was better than some Michelin starred restaurants we'd been too. We also kept saying how we wanted to bring our friends next time to introduce them to this place. Thus, I highly recommend this restaurant whether it's for a date or with the family or for any other occasion!

We arrived a little bit early knowing that the room would be available at 4 pm but, even after asking on numerous occasions if the room was available, we still didn’t get this until after 4 and this was only because I asked again. The bar was full as everyone was waiting for their room at the same time which isn’t feasible. We noticed that the bar was full of stuffed animals on the wall and this is exhibited all around other areas of the hotel which is distasteful and we did not expect this decor. My wife is a vegetarian and the option on the menu is very poor. Also be aware that with all main meals the sides are not included. The breakfast buffet was acceptable but the cooked option menu prices were extortionate. The room was very dark and along from the hotel. Fortunately it wasn’t raining

We went in for lunch after a trip to Bekonscot model village. First impressions was that it was a bit too cramped but when we confirmed the table next to us wasn't to be used we were able to relax. Service was good, although a bit too "up close and personal" for the current situation. Things like pouring out water etc. should probably take a back seat until this all blows over. That aside (and I know it's difficult, we're all working it out as we go along) service was prompt and friendly.I had the pork chop and my wife had a beetroot salad and the shellfish sliders and it was all superb, desert / cheese was also excellent and the wines by the glass were delicious. All in all, a fantastic meal. You do pay for it though! I understand there are often deals to be had here which would make it great value. As it was, I was fine with the price paid but certainly didn't leave feeling like we had got an amazing deal!

Overpriced and very overrated. Had booked this as a 60th birthday celebration which was noted on my booking. No reference to it, table average, service poor ( a fiver for a warm bottle of water is not acceptable). Food very nice but way overpriced. Menu very complex. £175 for a 1 course lunch for 4 (with only 2 alcoholic drinks is a bit steep unless everything is exceptional). We had coffee outside near the pool where apparently COVID-19 doesn’t exist as there was no social distancing in place. I would avoid this unless you have money to burn, aren’t bothered about good service or catching the virus.

I'm not sure how they hire the staff there but the waitresses around the pool and morrocan lounge are awful. So rude. My partner and I were constantly ignored throughout our stay. The day we left we'd sat around the pool, the waitress continued to ignore us even though we were sat right next to where they look busy. She only seemed to lay eyes on the customers over the age of 50. There was also a service charge for everything. I had to walk up to a waitress to ask for a dietcoke and was charged a service charge, same again at night theres no service by the pool so you have to walk in to the bar and get charged an extra 13.5%. The night we stayed we ate in the English restaurant which was nice and the staff were attentive. Following this we then went and sat in the Moroccan lounge where we were ignored, clearly sat with no drinks just talking to ourselves. We then overheard one of the waitresses talking about plumping up pillows as there was nothing else to do... how about pay attention to your guests who are getting ripped off with the ridiculous prices! Rooms are also not what they appear on pictures but thats another matter.

I’m easily pleased and don’t ever leave reviews, but really felt it necessary so people don’t waste their money. Really disappointing trip. We tried to pay for a room upgrade the week before as we found out we were in the Tiny Townhouse. The rude reception staff were completely unhelpful and told us there wasn’t any space when we could see available rooms online. When we arrived we were shown the tiny townhouse which is across the road from the main hotel. the decor was falling off the walls and it smelt foisty. It was 36degrees outside and they were using a portable air con unit in the room with a large pipe being led to the window. So the window was open to let the pipe out so you couldn’t close the blinds. Honestly it was like faulty towers. We couldn’t sleep because the air con unit sounded like a 747 plane coming into landing. We decided to just drink through the pain, unfortunately that was never going to happen as it took half an hour for each drink to arrive and that was only after we chased the waiting staff about 3 times per order to find out where are drinks were. From start to finish it was pretty bad. There’s better places to spend your hard earned £400+ on. Keep searching. This hotel isn’t the one.....I had to give it one star because you can’t leave zero stars.

We ate in the Thai restaurant, had the 12 course tasting menu, changed a couple of the dishes as 2 of our party aren’t keen on red meat. No problem they were more than happy to oblige, food was well presented, great flavours and plentiful.... cocktails & wine were good. We were given groupon vouchers for Christmas. We had a really nice 3 course meal with very good friendly service. We weren’t rushed and there was a decent pause between each course. We weren’t forced to have any drinks but enjoyed a glass of wine each. When the bill came it had the service charge set out with percentage. Many restaurants have it added into the price and don’t advertise it except in small letters on the menu so often you pay again with a tip. Unlike one of the comments here I didn’t think the food was rubbish but tasty and although someone said the portions were small, I found it quite enough and deceitfully filling. The one downside is that there aren’t many places to park in beaconsfield that we could tell but luckily managed to park outside.

We went for afternoon tea on a Sunday afternoon, group of 6 for a 40th birthday treat. We were seated in the Thai conservatory and it was cold, we asked if we could have a heater (there were a few overhead ones) but were told they couldn’t move them. We weren’t offered a warmer table or to move when others came free. The food was good, plentiful and a good variety. The tea took ages to come and when it did came in three pots; they said they’d run out of tea pots so would fill them up when needed. The refills were forthcoming and quicker than the original order which was good. Overall I didn’t think the service was special; it certainly wasn’t anything like the service we’ve enjoyed on previous trips. I wouldn’t rush to return.

Myself and my wife enjoyed an afternoon tea at the Crazybear, through a Wowcher experience. Apart from struggling to find a car parking space, and the over priced champagne, the visit was really good and i'd recommend it.

Good food and atmosphere, something different from the usual restaurant environment. Don't sit in the area overlooking the pool though when a storm is brewing as can get quite draughty/cold in winter, though in the summer probably ok. Staff very attentive and accommodating and moved to a warmer area!

I had a 3 course menu as part of my stay at the Crazy Bear. The starter of pork croquets was really good, followed by a chicken main course, again very tasty. Followed up by a light desert finished the meal off very well. Service throughout was very good and attentive. The ambience of the restaurant is quite remarkable with the buffalo heads above the open fireplace and a unicorn head mounted on the side wall. Wine prices were quite expensive especially when you add the service charge, a fiver for a small bottle of still water !

We had a nice Sunday roast. The food was very good and well presented, the staff were excellent. The experience was spoilt bu the numerous stuffed animal heads on the walls. This is Beaconsfield and not some safari lodge in Africa. In particular the horses head with an added horn is very upsetting for an animal lover.

Having received a champagne lunch for a gift I was a little disappointed by the below average service , I have been several times before so I know they can do better . The 13.5% service charge was paid as I didn’t want to cause a fuss in front my guest but I would normally have refused to pay it

Having been to the Crazy Bear in Studhampton , out of the two I much preferred it for the setting and atmosphere. The heating in the main restaurant was far too hot , and I have had far better Sunday lunches elsewhere, the roast potatoes were warm and had been reheated. It was difficult to deter which toilets were male and female, and no hand drying facilities to find.

This visit was on Groupon and was excellent value for the 7 course lunch. The restaurant was quiet on a January Monday lunchtime, so there were plenty of staff to provide superb service. Every course was delicious and beautifully presented. The champagne included was very good quality.

Having had a great meal in the Crazy Bear Thai restaurant, we moved over to the hotel for a coffee. When we used the toilets, the lighting was very poor, there were no signs on the doors as to which was the ladies or gents toilets. I opened the wrong door. In the gents toilets I could over hear every conversation in the ladies' toilets. Could have been very embarrassing. Why has the hotel allowed this situation to arise?

Was a lovely lunch eventually,, the initial reception and greeting wasnt good and went to the table a tad annoyed, jackets weren't taken and had to take it to reception myself in the end, menus took a while to come and had to wave down a waitress to ask for our first round of drinks, the overall start was poor... Thankfully the waiting staff/supervisor and chefs quality cooking really showed how good the service can be, the food was impeccable, a selection of great balanced dishes, great cocktails and a good wine selection..., a friendly and obviously experienced knowledgeable Italian staff member called Manuela really had and eye for detail and made the whole experience exceptional for my girlfriend's birthday even whilst cooking crêpe Suzette for another table.. As a man who's been in the industry for 20 years..she reminded me of why i still do what I do... Thank you for saving the day to front and back of house!!

If you want to be ripped off in faded tacky decor this is your venue. The value for money aspect does not concern this establishment whatsoever. The surf and turf is more similar to a prawn with two extremely small slices of beef. No chips included. I am not a big eater but I left hungry. The surf and turf was nearly £40 per head. Our bill was extreme for what we had. The cocktails are also very pricey and mine was mainly ice. My best advice is stay away unless you enjoy being taken and shaken. Never again

Food was very average, service poor and ambience average. Prices were extortionate. Two mains, one started, bottled of white wine and glass of red came to £160.31. Mark up on wine was ridiculous - £50 for a bottle of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and £17.50 for a glass of house red. Goats cheese starter £14. Side of fries £7. We will not be returning.

Visited here for Sunday lunch. Was welcomed as we entered and shown to our table. The waitress was very friendly and helpful and went out of her way every 15 mins or so to make sure we were happy and if we needed anything. The meal arrived very quickly, hot & cooked perfectly. I had the 3 meat combo but only got two meats which I wasn’t informed by, but the lack of the third was made up with the other two meats so not a big deal. We even asked if they had any crackling which was brought out free of charge which was a nice added touch. The service was excellent. Then they a point of saying goodbye and asked if we enjoyed our meal as we left. Great place to go & very good value. Would highly recommend.

Quite busy for a Wednesday lunchtime, but space enough for the 4 of us. Ordered 1 x fish & Chips, 1 x Scampi & Chips & 1 x Fish pie which was shared by 2 (to be honest more than enough). All delicious and plates cleared. We followed with 3 x Apple Crumble & Ice cream (as opposed to custard) but when requested were more than happy to provide cream as well. AND 1 x Ice cream - I just needed something sweet, a scoop of vanilla & salted caramel . . . job done. All beautifully presented, but sadly I have no photo's as I wanted to eat, not photograph!
