Charming country house with beautiful grounds and a walkway down to the lakeside. Fabulous fine dining restaurant with some dishes not to be missed. All the staff are extremely helpful and cheery. We did have a small issue which was dealt with by the manager Stacey immediately and without fuss. A lovely couple of days away and we will return.

We stayed at Cragwood for our daughter's wedding on 13th May. Our room was large with a comfy bed, hotel is cozy and very clean, breakfast was ample and the staff seem to be hand picked for their friendly ' can do' attitude. Food was pure perfection both in taste and in presentation. The grounds are well mantained and you can walk down to the lake and explore the area.

We booked Sunday stopover with £240 of vouchers. I booked a room online with 3 people in included. 2adults and 1 child . I thought it was paid for … oh no …. £30 extra for child (which wasn’t mentioned on booking online) Then even though we didn’t take the £55 per person restaurant experience we opted for bar food. We still had to pay for drinks which would have been covered for the restaurant costs. I’m not happy I paid an extra £86.00 even though we didn’t have the £55 meal in restaurant, I feel the customer service was lacking and we shouldn’t have paid what we did for what we had x

We recently stayed for a few days and we loved it, the staff were amazing, the breakfast was superb the setting is stunning. The fine dining was world class. We missed out on one of the better rooms, our room was very homely but a little small (room two) apparently there are rooms with superb views and much more spacious but nevertheless it was clean, comfortable and functional and the shower was brilliant. All in all, highly recommended would definitely stay again.

We had a wonderful two night break in this hotel and it was a real tonic. It is like staying at a country house for the weekend with beautiful gardens going down the lake and stunning views. Everyone was so welcoming, especially Roberts and we found the food excellent too. I can't recommend the hotel highly enough especially if you want a relaxing weekend or short break. The hotel was also very covid conscious which made you feel veru safe. We are looking forward to our next break there.

Firstly, the positives, as that seems only fair. The grounds and structure are lovely, no denying it. The hotel are making good efforts to comply with current covid rules. The staff are friendly. Beyond that it all seems average. Our room looks nothing like any image we found online and is desperate for renovation. The beds are uncomfortable. I don’t mind a dog friendly hotel, but when they’re running loose around the breakfast restaurant, it doesn’t feel good. The restaurant itself is dated too and very plain. We visited the linthwaite whilst here and there is no comparison, it’s worth the extra money by a mile. At Cragwood, you don’t get to stay in the nice part of the building where all of the photos are from, you get stuffed into the extension which frankly is nothing like it. All in all it’s a very misleading sell and I wouldn’t return.

A wonderful hotel that we've frequented for 25 years plus... almost annually we have been here for our wedding anniversary. Just the last few years, we've noticed the rooms' bathrooms being quite shabby and very much needing an update. We still came back in the hope that the hotel would spend money on these things but alas, the rooms remained the same. The restaurant too changed and not necessarily for the better. Exquisite meals that we had tasted as twentysomethings morphed into something run-of-the-mill which truly irked us. Even though the dishes looked really unique and wundersome, the flavours did not cut it with us. Breakfasts still remained lovely but as our annual treat of dinner, bed and breakfast, we expected for our money, an awesome meal in the evening. This is what let it down for us. We, for the first time in decades, decided to look elsewhere in the Lake District. I'm sure we'll return one day to rekindle old memories and in the hope that the owners will upgrade the rooms and definitely the bathrooms. Those tiny bathrooms would be better as shower rooms and those requiring a languishing bath could choose a different room with a larger bath!

No podemos culparlo. Be aware this is not standard wedding fodder, dinner here is excellent. Imaginative menu with a flair for flavour combinations. Wine list is first class for value. The bedrooms are comfortable and spacious, the reception rooms invite lazy reading and relaxing. All that said Weddings are about the details and that takes careful and knowledgable management. However, if you are wanting somewhere very special to stay full of character, atmosphere, warm and friendly staff, wonderful food and beautiful surroundings overlooking the lake, look no further. The Hotel is set in beautiful manicured gardens bordering the lake. Its very dog friendly (bowls, biscuits and doggy Bags) in the room which was a nice touch. He was allowed in the bar area and throughout the hotel except in the two restaurants which was not a problem. The Hotel is tastefully furnished and loved the oak panelled rooms and bar area downstairs with beautiful bay windows. The bedrooms were tastefully decorated and certainly not pokey!! We had one king-size, one single and one doggy basket and there was still plenty of room to walk about. We had booked a Lake View room. And wow, the view from our room (or any public room overlooking the lake) was incredible. An amazing sunset. The grounds were fantastic to wander around in with our dog. These parts of the experience were as good as or better than any hotel anywhere. The hotel was very dog friendly and many guests had dogs. Instead of feeling like we were the out-of-the-usual guests with a dog (how we usually feel!), we felt like we were just one of many others - which was refreshing compared to other places we've stayed. The staff were helpful and polite and efficient. We ate from the bar menu as we didn't want a 4 course meal (which was all the restaurant offered), and the food was very good and tasty, although the bar menu was limited with hardly any choice.Breakfast was ok, although the orange juice in the large container on the buffet was 'off'.Everything was spotless - top marks to the cleaning team.Unfortunately, although our room (room 3) had an amazing view of the lake, it was also very very small - the bathroom was ridiculous - if you were standing at the sink, your derriere was touching the shower cubicle. And, even worse, there was a thin door in our room, separating our room from the room next door. The room next door had a couple with a 2yo child in it, and we could literally hear every word they said. We ended up whispering to each other, in our own hotel room - because if we could hear them, they could hear us. Romantic, it was not!!We asked if other rooms were available and this was all dealt with really quickly and efficiently - we were offered another room, but without the lake view. It was a bigger room, with a bigger bathroom, much more recently renovated with newer decor, and we were very happy to change rooms. I don't really think it's possible/acceptable to put anyone in a room where they can hear every word said by guests in the room next to them, so avoid room 3 is my advice!

We stayed at Cragwood for 2 nights recently ( see hotel review) on the first night we ate in the hotel restaurant and so pleased we did. There are 3 sittings, 6.30, 7.30 and 8.30. We booked in for 7.30 and went over to the old part of the hotel where the restaurant and bar are. We ordered drinks and sat reading the menu. Your order is taken by the friendly staff and a little treat from the kitchen to wet your appetite! The menu is produced daily and offers 4 courses for £35 which was excellent value. The starters of duck and puy lentils and chicken and leek terrine gave us an idea of the quality of the food they were superb! Next course a roasted carrot soup and a lime sorbet were equally as good. The star of the show for me was the cod loin which was served with mussels in the most amazing sauce it was divine. The other half had the lamb shank which was beautiful both dishes so well presented! I was too full for dessert but I am told the sticky toffee pudding was on par with the rest of the meal! High praise! The white rioja was cold and dry and very very enjoyable. All the staff were friendly and professional. Like "pleasant", the word "nice" has been much abused in the past two or three decades. It used to mean exactly what was intended but nowadays an increasing emergence of irony or even cynicism in our language often coveys mediocrity or even worse. And that is a pity because our experience of the Cragwood was "nice", in fact really nice.Take the staff: no edge, no overbearing stand-offishness, just very friendly people behaving naturally but providing a service level not often encountered in British hotels. They operated seamlessly as a team, providing a homely ambience enjoyed by all.Six of us had lunch and we feared the worse when we discovered that we were the only ones booked in. Although the hotel was evidently well occupied, the residents obviously preferred the fells during the day. However we were impressed by a full menu on offer and even more by the presentation of the various courses. The first course offerings verged on the artistic but tasted even better than they looked. The same standard prevailed across the whole meal. Very enjoyable. What was equally impressive was the value of the meal, four delightful courses plus coffee and homemade chocolates for £25 a head-probably one of the best bargains in the Lakes. The hotel itself is delightful-impressive but informal in quite spectacular grounds. All in all a highly recommended lunch and well worth the long journies we all made to sample it.I suspect that Sunday lunch at the Cragwood is a well hidden secret-we lived a few miles away for about 13 years and never heard of it. Instead we ventured to a series of hit and miss locations with half the value and a fraction of the satisfaction. Try it.

Stayed at the hotel and had an excellent meal with very good service. Better priced if staying at the hotel. See the sample menu on the hotel website.

We booked afternoon tea for a large party of elderly people and their friends, family and carers. The staff were warm and friendly and went above and beyond to ensure that everyone was comfortable and had an enjoyable experience. The service was exceptional and the food was delicious and plentiful.Fabulous views, stunning gardens and a beautiful building. It was extremely good value and we will definitely return to repeat this brilliant afternoon.Thank you so much to the amazing Cragwood staff.

We called in to the Cragwood Hotel for a snack. We ordered a bacon toastie and ham and cheese toastie. We were not prepared for the feast which came. The toastie was a club toastie served with salad and chips. Delicious !!!! We had a pot Of coffee and all for under £20.I am not finished yet, we ate this super meal in very comfy chairs in front of the window with views of lake Windermere , and to one side of us was a roasting log fire. Oh yes I nearly forgot to mention, we could read the daily papers as well. Bliss !Thank you Cragwood for the excellent meal, the super surroundings all served very pleasantly and skillfully.

Cold and smelled of dogs on arrival. Waited ages to be served and the waitress was more interested on who was at the bar rather than taking our table order for 10 people. Food was very salty and the steak pie in particular was terrible. Every meal as standard/basic or frozen style food. The whole place is run down and miserable. We went off trip advisor reviews as well on a visit to the area and wished we hadn’t. Go to The Pheasant Inn down the road at Allithwaite instead that was lovely food and fab service.

Well I won't be going back ,the food was awful ...the tomato ,basil and pesto soup had a horrible sharp but sugary sweet taste...the sandwich that came with it had the cheapest bright yellow " butter "on. ,a maximum of one slice of ham and the cheapest mustard . My 4 year old grandson could have made a better sandwich ! My husband had pie which had hardly any meat in it and the gravy was unusual tasting ( to say the least ) and sweet . I've had far superior microwave meals ! The toilets which were always an asset to the pub had gone downhill too.

An excellent, local menu, very reasonably priced, and warm, real fires. No better way to spend a chilly autumn evening.
