We visited to break a journey and were really pleased we found this place. Lovely cafe, really nice freshly made sandwiches. We also loved the shop, so many nice housey things to choose from. We bought cake to take home. It was a shame that we couldn’t sit in the secret garden but it would be lovely on a less rainy day. The cafe is dog friendly too, there is a sign about the resident dogs and they were super friendly, we loved them.

Such a disappointment! We’ve been here before during the summer and had delicious food and great service in this lovely tea room and garden. Today the very small room was busy and had 4 dogs, including one belonging to the owner who was keen to sniff my food. I’m not a dog lover and don’t like to eat surrounded by smelly wet dogs. Such a pity as the home cooked food is great, but we won’t be going back.

The best scones and coffee. We had an Americano, latte, cappuccino, mocha, I would say proper coffees. (Not machines) The scones were just cooked that morning, cheese was really cheesy tasted great with chutney, fruit scones great with jam and cream. They were so good I ate it before taking a pic. Sorry, I have zoomed in on a fam picture tho. Very quaint gardens, with apple and plum trees. Lovely gift shop and indoor cafe. Will definitely call in again

Just had a two night stay for the first time in the Coxwolds and came across the “Ruhma tearoms and shop in Coxwowld. The owne4 and staff are extremely helpful, pleasant and welcoming. The rear garden is a little oasis of calm and tranquility with the emphasis on natural but not manicured. Only had a coffee and snack but it was presented with care and attention along with attentiveness. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone for a lite bite with relaxation.

Wow! What can I say?! We have just got back from a last minute booked trip and stayed here. We were treated like family from start to finish. Our room was beautiful and quaint and even though our shower and toilet was separate, it didn’t hamper our visit. The place was immaculately clean and towels, bathrobes and toiletries provided. We were above a lovely little tea shop that had an amazing country garden, where we were able to eat our breakfast that was provided in an amazing hamper (freshly baked bread each day, just topped it even more). We were allowed to bring our dog also and he was even given a biscuit for his breakfast too! I couldn’t recommend this place enough. We feel well and truly relaxed and have a very tired dog from all the lovely walks leading straight from the tea rooms.

Popped in just for a coffee as was passing the door and so glad I did. The Tea Rooms/gift shop/Bed and Breakfast combo is an interesting concept and underlines the creative thinking of the owner. Clean, tidy and with a simple menu, this is a warm an inviting spot for a morning coffee, a light lunch or afternoon tea with home-made cake. YUM. I popped in to see the bedrooms as I'm often asked for places to stay and despite not having en-suite facilities, they were charming and beautifully clean with the bathrooms just across the landing. Excellent gift shop with Christmas decs' a reason to come back again and sample the food. Above all nice friendly people. What more could you want?

This is a lovely tearoom which serves very nice soup which I thought was rather overpriced. Reasonable lunch menu but would be even better if there was a bigger selection of things to choose from. Visited as under new management. No menu board outside. Entered and to left seemed to be a shop or store room ... unclear, looked disorganised. Turned right into a room where tables are crammed in. There was a chalk board ... seemed to be only cakes and coffees etc. Were hoping for sandwiches. One of the customers was a young screeching child. No staff member appeared to greet us, so we just left and enjoyed a lovely light lunch at byland abbey.

We stayed in the Byland room, it’s beautiful; comfy beds, beautifully decorated, fresh milk in a mini personalised milk bottle, clean robes, fresh fluffy towels. I am over the moon with the place. The village it’s situated in is a lovely break from work, traffic and a hectic life. The food from the pub up the road is phenomenal. I honestly cannot recommend this place enough, cannot wait to come back to see what the owner had done to make it her own.I’m still in The Coxwold as I write this; that’s how excited about it.

Cute cottage, nice and cosy! Very clean and peaceful atmosphere. The only downside was that the owner/manager contact us if we have any dietary requirements and we said we don't eat pork, yet breakfast was full English ( sausages, bacon, black pudding) they didn't have alternative and the cook/waiter said the owner didn't pass this requirement to her.we end up eating beans on toast for first morning then the second morning we refused to ear it at all. They still charged up supplement fee £50 for 2 nights on the top of full paid price for stay. Bit of disappointment but overall good experience.

We stayed for only one night at the Coxwold Tearooms and B & B but we will definitely be back for a longer stay later in the year. The village is small but very pretty. The room was very comfortable. Be aware though that some of the rooms aren't en suite but there are two fully functioning bathrooms that are shared. There was never a queue for them and the B&B; supplies towels and great quality toiletries which is above and beyond what many places do. The breakfast was plentiful and the bacon eggs and sausage were all locally sourced with the eggs coming from their own chickens and ducks. Delicious. The whole place was furnished both comfortably and stylishly and there was lots of reading material to inspire visitors for local visits. The village isn't too far from Thirsk so great for James Herriot enthusiasts (or the Yorkshire Vet). We are looking forward to our next visit where the welcome was so warm (despite the cold and snow outside). The tearoom itself is closed until later in the spring but judging from the afternoon tea that we had in our room, it will be worth the wait.

Coxwold, a small village (pop. 190) about 20 miles north of York, is an attractive place, and a good base for exploring the area, with the spectacular Rievaulx abbey a 20 minute drive away (see photo of a 'monk' giving a fascinating talk about abbey life), Pickering in around 40 minutes, and Scarborough in about an hour, but you could easily spend a day in and around the village. St. Michael's church is worth a visit, surprisingly ornate for a village church (photo), its main claim to fame being that the author Laurence Sterne (Tristram Shandy) was its parson in the 1760s, and his splendid residence, Shandy Hall, built in the 15th century, is open to the public - on two afternoons a week! Check before you go. Newburgh Priory is within walking distance and you can also get in to look around that - if you happen to be there on a Wednesday or Sunday between April and June! Unfortunately, we weren't, but we did see a large marquee being erected in the grounds. It's a popular wedding venue.

The mozzarella and tomato starter accompanied by a tomato and basil consommé which had been filtered through muslin overnight was divine. Visited for the first time. Lovely young people greeted us and we were directed to the garden where we could sit with our dogs. Young lady brought fresh water for the dogs and we settled down for a light lunch. My husband, the scone expert, (in his own mind), chose a bacon and brie sandwich, hoping to enjoy a fresh scone to follow. I in turn, chose the Ham and Cheese toastie. Now everyone has their own expectations, and my husband did ask for a cold sandwich, which he thought would be warm filling from freshly prepared bacon that would slightly melt the cheese but in cold, un-toasted bread. Mmmm, all was cold, fresh from the fridge. Mine on the other hand was lovely and hot, filled with home cooked, pulled ham and oodles and oodles of chutney, in fact so much that both the ham and apparent mild chedder were lost. We were both looking forward to a nice fruit or plain scone for afters, but then we heard, the scones were either ginger or ginger and another ingredient...........neither of us like ginger.!! Can't please all the people all the time I hear you shout, as a caterer I agree, but maybe a choice of scone, and please, mature chedder and a little less chutney. We will be back, but maybe not for the same dishes.

We were on our bikes, in the rain, and we were so impressed with the welcoming atmosphere, coffee that hits the spot and extensive menu. The owner is a joy - warm, friendly and attentive.Their bacon sandwich ranks amongst the best I have had!We look forward to visiting again soon to sample more of the lovely dishes on the blackboards, made with local produce.Seek out this hidden gem before everyone else discovers it!

Sarah wasn't around when we arrived but gave clear information on how we were to enter the premises and which room we were in. A lovely comfortable twin room with hand basin, wardrobe, chest of drawers and tea and coffee making facilities. Nothing was a problem and Sarah made sure everything was perfect. We stayed 3 nights and left feeling as though we'd been there a lot longer. It has been so relaxing. Check out the toiletries. If you're having the full English breakfast - the black pudding is delicious. Hope to go back soon.

Stopped here on the way to a local B&B and had a lovely cream tea in the garden. We'd just tried another local establishment who didn't have scones and weren't very friendly. Coxwold tea rooms were quite the opposite. The owner went out of her way to be helpful, giving advice on the local area and telling us we could relax in the garden after she officially closed. Delicious scones and great cups of tea and coffee. Just what we were looking for and glad we hadn't been successful elsewhere. Would highly recommend. Don't usually make the effort to write a review but the contrast between the 2 places was so marked we wanted to share.

My husband and I where out for the day and whilst driving through Coxwold we came across this picturesque B&B tearoom. The staff welcomed us as we entered the door and asked if we'd like to sit inside or out as it was a lovely day. We chose to sit outside and they took us through to a lovely quaint secluded garden area that had trees and flowers all around. They served fresh local produce and home made cakes and scones. The staff where very friendly and where interested in where people where from. We got chatting to the owner and she showed us the B&B rooms which where spotless. Next time were up north we will definitely stay here

Stayed at Coxwold Tearooms B&B for 1 night as my girlfriend and I had a table booked at the Black Swan at Old stead (next village along).Sarah welcomed us in and is so friendly. We were shown to our room which was spacious enough and includes a sink, wardrobe (with decent hangers), TV, tea and coffee making facilities and a hairdryer. We were a bit apprehensive about the shower and toilets being a short walk from the room but there really is no need to be. We did not bump into any of the other residents. The bathrooms are spacious and very clean. Breakfast was delicious. If you are a coffee drinker you will love the coffee they serve. If going out for the night remember to close your window or you might have a few creatures when you come back, especially if it's been raining on a humid summer evening.I recommend Coxwold Tearooms B&B and I will be back if I'm ever in the area again.

After a days walk we were made most welcome and provide with tea, coffee and delicious home made cakes and scones. To celebrate GB doing so well in the Olympics winning 67 medals they were giving everyone who ordered a cup of tea or coffee a free biscuit.Tea rooms with a very friendly atmosphere.

Spent two nights here for local wedding. Sarah very welcoming and food both in tea room and at breakfast excellent. Room clean and tidy with excellent WiFi. Convenient for York (P&R) about 20 minutes away. Whole experience excellent. Would recommend over one of the more 'modern' establishments in the area.

Lunch here a few days ago. The food was good - nicely presented and tasty. Coffee could have been hotter. The setting is magnificent, we sat in the garden right opposite the abbey ruins. The person taking our order when we arrived was not particularly friendly. Everything seemed to be too much trouble - it became quite funny really. The server though was pleasant.

While walking around villages and fields in the area, I called in for coffee and a fresh cheese scone in the morning. It was so good that, as my walk was a circular one, I was pleased to be able to call again in the afternoon for tea and a fruit scone! This quite startled the owner Sarah, who does not usually get the same customer twice in one day!But I got a very friendly welcome again. And so I've called again several times in the last couple of months while out walking, and brought my wife for a treat!

This is a truly delightful stopping place in the heart of Herriot country. We were greeted by the lovely Sarah, and took our seat in the garden at the back. The menu is good, service second to none, and food really good. Plenty of tea, and a Millionaire chocolate shortcake to die for. Great atmosphere too. Had a look inside and it looked very inviting with plenty of seating, and importantly, clean and airy. This will not be our last visit. We don't get to Coxwold as often as we would like to, but know where to head next time we visit. Good luck Sarah,You've only had the place a short time, but we are sure you will do well.

Whilst staying in Harrogate we had a day out to the North Yorkshire Moors National Park and en route we found the Coxwold Tearooms-what a splendid discovery this was. The friendly owner,Sarah, welcomed us and we were given a choice of a table in the beautifully secluded gardens or the cooler tearooms indoors and as it was such a hot day we close the latter.Looking at the menu, with its array of local produce,we quickly decided to stay for lunch and we were spoiled for choice finally deciding on the local ham which came with home-made coleslaw and salad. We then followed this with home-made cake (very difficult to choose which to have from the delicious selection) and finally we had the Yordale rocky road ice cream-which was 'to die for!!' Sarah told us that she had taken over this business recently and that the property dates back over 200 years. The features of these tearooms reflects the balance in its age and the modernisation which Sarah has so tastefully introduced. There is everything here you could possibly need for lunch or bed and breakfast as the attention to detail and comfort is exceptional. This 'yorkshire gem' is a MUST to visit.

What better way to spend an hour to two than stroll through the lovely, peaceful village of Coxwold; have a look at the fabulous church (see separate review of St Michaels) then come to this delightful tearoom for some refreshment. Arguably, this tearoom has everything. It is located in a beautiful village; is housed in a lovely old building; has a gorgeous cottage garden; and serves good food. Add the fact that it is run by lovely people and it is well-nigh perfect. I understand that the new owner, Sarah, has only been here for a few weeks. I wish her well and I look forward to coming back.

Found this little tearoom in COXWOLD. Gorgeous secluded garden, very private and tucked away behind the house. Sarah Bray gave us a lovely welcome and we had plump chicken sandwiches and pot of tea, followed by fruit cake and Wensleydale cheese. Really lovely..... We will be going there again.

I called in for a late lunch by myself this weekend and was given a very warm greeting by Sarah who couldn't do enough to make me feel comfortable. I browsed a great selection of magazines during the (very short) wait for my delicious fish finger sandwich which was served in a Rustic Roll. I also indulged in the famous coffee and walnut cake which was to die for.In short, simple, yummy food and excellent service - I can't wait to go back!

Lovely welcome in a charming little N Yorks. village. Tea, soft drinks and ploughman's lunch were excellent and really good value.
