Sunday Lunch here with extra roast potatoes and Yorkshire Puddlings is a must. Although only a small choice of roasts Turkey or Beef the beef was superb and tender. As we had such a great experience before we decided to come again and we were served by the landlady herself and she was lovely and so attentive. This is a lovely pub with a beautiful garden and well worth a visit. I have a Dairy intolerance so tried the vegan chocolate and cherry ice cream which was divine. The best roast in the area we are definitely coming again.

Sunday roast and desserts... delicious. A really good turkey Sunday roast. Normally we swerve a Sunday roast out because they are rubbish, to be honest. This was good... unlimited roast potatoes and yorkshire puddings! We'll definitely return. We had the tiramisu and the mars and stars desserts. Again, really nice. Highly recommend getting a roast here! Thank you to our waitress, Chloe, and all the staff for a lovely Sunday afternoon meal out. Carole : )

It's many years since we last had a meal at the Cowpers Oak but fancying a change, my wife and I ventured forth to see if it had changed any. Turning into the car park and seeing the number of cars parked, there would be no room for 'walk ins' but in we went. Very busy with loads of folks standing around and a real buzz about the place. Expecting the "we're full" response to asking for a table, the very bubbly waitress dumbfounded us with 'of course' then gave us a choice of seats. Drinks ordered, delivered, menus perused and food order all done & dusted within 10 minutes. Great range of drinks and a good basic no frills menu which really did have a number of dishes I would like to have tried. I had the stew with dumplings which if I was to be critical would say that a little more meat would have set it off but a good range of veg, mash and a lovely gravy made a smashing meal. My wife had their chicken burger with bacon & cheese, also well presented and cooked to perfection. By the end of our main course we had to decline the deserts as we were full, such were the helpings, so perhaps more meat would have tipped us over the top. The atmosphere in the pub was really reminiscent of years passed but by 8:30, so many had left that it had lost a little of its impact. Give the staff their due, they were still vibrant and oozing enthusiasm for the customers who were still there. A grand wee pub which we will certainly go back to sooner, rather than later.

We live relatively locally. Had been here a while ago and enjoyed it, thought it was 'posh' given its rural, gentrified location. Came again with family today as it was my wife's birthday. Slowish service, 5 things unavailable that we asked for. Insipid, dry, unfresh food. Some meat undercooked. Think we may have got better at the wacky warehouse. Friendly waitress, but mucky white trainers. Overpriced. We will not go again but you might try, especially if they reinvent themselves into something the lovely location deserves.

Checking out some family history connections in the village, and though aware of the pub had not used it previously. Decided to call in for lunch and will certainly come again. Pleasant atmosphere, very comfortable, good range of food and a nice mix of the familiar / not so familiar on the menu. One of our group is vegan and one prefers vegan / vegetarian options - both were catered for with the choices available and were very complimentary about their meals. Staff were very attentive, efficient and pleasant. A shout out to the person who served us (think it was Molly), brilliant, and seemed to be everywhere at once! Thank you for a very enjoyable visit - we will certainly return.

The Cowpers Oak; what can I say?! Reading the mixed reviews I was a little concerned but I should not have worried because it was phenomenal! We had a meal on the 23/12/22 and it was brilliant. The service was amazing, the girls serving were lovely. Particularly the blonde haired girl with her hair up, absolute Angel. Sorry I didn’t catch your name. The food was incredible. For starter I had lamb koftas and I was super impressed, very flavoursome and better than any Greek restaurant I’ve been to. The burger was delicious as were the hand-cut chips (you cannot beat hand cut ones) For dessert it was a pleasure to see Rice Pudding on the menu as you don’t see it on menus much. It was delicious, complete with a fruit compote. This village pub is worth raving about, it’s in the cutest classiest little village and inside the interior is tastefully decorated. I was super impressed and would 100% come again.

It is a great location. The staff are lovely and friendly. The ambience is exceptional. But the food ... please! The presentation is sloppy, the quality of the food is not great - Mac and cheese is like cheese flavoured macaroni, the chicken wings were piled on a plate with a sticky brown chilli sauce - it was a mess. The real downer for me and the final motivation for sharing a review was the affogato. Perhaps the staff could google what this is supposed to look like. It is not a cold cup of coffee with a lump of ice cream at the bottom. This was actually revolting.

We got through starters not even to be asked once how my starter was and Sunday roast, well what can I say weren’t asked once if any replenishing of the potatoes etc were required, but actually I wouldn’t bother the roast potatoes must of been frozen, they were laden in fat and the veg was seriously over cooked! I took my husband for a belated birthday dinner on a Thursday night. We were welcomed warmly, despite us having to tell them that my husband needed to be gluten free. A lovely fire, music playing quite quietly so talking to each other wasn't a problem at all, helpful and friendly staff. In our part of the pub, all four tables were occupied - locals and incomers, I think, and there were locals drinking in the bar which (my husband said) had a decent selection of ales. Gluten free beer AND ale, and no problem adapting things if needed. We both started with the prawns, which were deliciously messy. My husband had a venison burger (minus bun) with salad and hand cut chips and declared it excellent. I had calves liver and bacon, perfectly cooked, with a wonderful gravy and delicious mash and we both finished with ice cream. We felt welcomed and will most certainly go back.

We needn’t have booked on a Wednesday evening as it was very quiet so had the choice of tables and attentive friendly staff. Enjoyed a very good meal including delicious steak and kidney pie, plaice, crispy squid and scotch egg. My mother requested a children’s portion which was also fine for her. We were also grateful to see a wood burning stove lit even though there were few punters in. However, the overwhelming fusty smell that greeted us on arrival almost made us cancel the booking. The smell then turned into disinfectant and persisted. If you are sensitive to smells and it’s an importantly part of the ambience of a place, be warned. Hopefully it is not a permanent problem as this is a lovely pub serving good food.

How nice to be greeted by a roaring log fire. The range of beers is good. The service is prompt and welcoming. The menu is traditional and the food well presented and represents good value. Recommended.

Having finished my first drink at the Cowpers Oak. I placed my empty glass on the bar with a bag of crisps taken from the basket on the bar. This should have been a clue that I was waiting to be served.

The pub is a popular local watering spot for the area near Olney and Newport Pagnell. The atmosphere is warm and cosy and gets rather busy on a Friday evening as the locals celebrate the end of another week, the pub serves wholesome if unexciting food menu. The guest beers are usually well worth trying.

Serves reasonably priced, well cooked food, and a good selection of beers. Dog friendly with log fires in winter. A good pub to start or finish a country walk

We really enjoyed our Sunday roast which was both Roast Beef and a Vegetarian version with all the usual trimmings. We sat in the bar by the log fire and was pleased to see the pub well supported. It was good value and the staff were friendly and attentive. We will be back to sample the normal menu or another Roast.

Lovely restaurant with nice open fire. Locally sourced food with helpful staff and good chef. Dog friendly in the bar area where they can sit by the fire after a long walk which is perfect for most owners!

Visited on a not very busy Sunday. None of the expected Pub ambiance in the dining area. Waitrons were great. Friendly and cheerful. Meal served in reasonable time. Starters were nice and well presented. Main courses of beef and one special of mushroom and goats cheese lasagne. Beef was tough, stringy and one sent back as it was undercooked. Lasagne was horrendous. Sorry. Nothing nice about it. Stodgy. Very mild goats cheese if it was included in the meal as stated. Felt like it had been cooked well in advance and heated up for the veggie. Wouldn't serve that quality at home. Desserts were OK. Was seriously underwhelmed.

We went for a friends leaving meal and we were left seriously disappointed! On arrival we had not wine list or offer off one. Overall service was not great being left for long periods, lack of attention meant long gaps in our meals.

First visit here for a Sunday Lunch. A lovely atmospheric pub in a beautiful village. The Log fire was burning & we enjoyed the ambiance.

Lovely place and good food after stopping during a walk for a drink and something to eat. Kids play area in garden is ok and although it stated no dogs allowed in that are there was actually dog poo on the grass.

We went to this lovely pub on a Friday evening just before a gig in the barn at the back. We had one course, pies, pork belly, venison burger etc and they were all so tasty - good chips, great mash and the meat was succulent. The service was friendly, efficient and very welcoming. We hope to go back soon!

Went for evening meal and unfortunately for a starter of bread (olives didn't arrive but were charged), scotch egg (delicious), fish n chips (bland) & burger (v good) with two ciders not sure how that came to £47. Will go back for a drink as usually love this pub but were quite disappointed in the food this time. Lovely staff who would do anything for you. Good atmosphere usually too. Miss the salt n pepper squid starter from the menu.

Now under new management, we decided to give the Oak a try one lunch time.Nothing obviously different inside, staff seem to have changed and it may take some time for the new folks to adjust but all in all, the welcome was acceptable. Not maybe quite as personal as before but this will hopefully improve with time.Beer and cider was good (Wherrys & Aspall) and reasonably priced. We had a fish finger sandwich which wasn't quite what was expected being pieces of fish which thanks to being done in batter with a heavy skin content and being a bit greasy, were less than pleasant. Perhaps something more akin to the 'birds eye' breaded product would have been nicer. The ham sandwich which I had was tasty and with a nice little side salad, was good value for money.Place was certainly busy which is a good sign but wondered if it was 'the norm' or if like us, simply irregular visitors checking out the new folks.Lunchtime experience OK but real test will come when visiting for an evening meal - think some more 'bedding in' time needed though. The new management have a hard act to follow so a little more time will be needed.

First & last time, never had fish & chips before that tasted rank!! The chips must have been lunch time chips served up at tea time!!
