Went for the set menu. The place was empty apart from us. The waiter had a cold or something and kept clearing his throat while we were eating which was really off-putting. The starters were lukewarm but we didn't say anything. The mains came and they weren't hot either and didn't look nice. As we were the only ones there there was no excuse for the food not being hot so we left without eating it. They didn't charge us for the mains. I asked if the food was microwaved. They said not but couldn't explain why the food wasn't hot!

Lovely food, the bill came to £197.00 for 7 people, they all put in £30.00 making a total of £210.00, 4 different people in the party counted the money. Waiter took the money and then came back and said that it was £20.00 short, only £190.00 there. My husband paid another £20.00, all in all they’ve had £230.00 from a party of 7. Definitely won’t be going back, customer service was terrible, and they still had a good tip. Please count any money out to the staff and don’t let it out of your sight until they have confirmed that they have got the correct amount.

To say I am utterly disgusted at our visit to this Indian restaurant Is an absolute understatement. I have never been treated or spoken to so awfully... I was literally told I was lucky to be there.... some tables had waited 90 minutes and I would have to wait at least that... to add insult to injury they did actually serve us our main courses .... 1 hour 20 mins after 3 popodums and of course after I’d annoyed hubby by telling them I’d chased them up....do not go there if you want a relaxing dinner! Utterly chaotic and can’t even vouch for the food... mediocre

After getting off the ferry from Portsmouth we headed to our air bnb where I accidentally ordered a pizza at 9:30pm to the port post code ♀️We rang Cowes Tandoori at almost 10pm absolutely starving and it arrived hot and fresh by 10:30. We ordered lamb jalfrezi which my boyfriend said was soooo nice with a really good meat to sauce ratio. I ordered the veg biryani which was the best I’ve very had. I asked for it mild and normally they just whack yogurt in it. This had been specifically made mild and was delish. Also normally in other places they just throw in off cuts of veg that sometimes doesn’t go with the dish but this was sooo good with chickpeas, potato, okra and other bits. Keema naan was delish too. Will recommend to family when they come to visit here and thank our air bnb host who recommended.

We benefited from the £11.95 Tuesday deal, and a very good deal it turned out to be as for your money you get any starter, and any main course. (King prawn, duck and shashlic cost more). What I found unusual, and pleasantly so, is that the restaurant offers BYO, as well as being licensed to sell alcohol. That’s music to any Yorkshireman’s ears, so we turned up with our own drinks.Plenty of starters to chose from, the Tandoori mixed kebab was nice.As for main meals, daughter had a korma (which she enjoyed), my wife had the mangsho sat kora (intrigued by the subtle wild lemon flavour) and I had sughanda chicken (a contrived dish, essentially a massala but cooked with Tia Maria). All tasted good.We were also pleased that we could have any rice, or any nan included in the price. We were already aware that, generally speaking, a southern curry isn’t as hot as a northern one, so we had ours spiced up a bit, just as we’d expect at home. Staff was attentive and friendly, and certainly no sign of the grumpy waiter mentioned in earlier reviews. That said, I’ve withheld that 5th star as the restaurant lacks a bit of atmosphere, though no grumbles over the food or price.

On holiday in Cowes, fancied an Indian meal and this place offered starter, main course plus a rice or naan for £11.95. Chicken Chat and a vegetarian Chat dish for starters were both tasty and nicely spicy. As main courses, I had a Vegetable Biryani which had plenty of taste and my partner's Chicken Jalfrezi contained nice chunks of chicken and just the right amount of spice.Topped off with friendly and efficient service this was a very good meal all round. The only observation I'd make is that the restaurant might benefit from a bit of a design makeover for the 20s. Food and service-wise though I can heartily recommend this place.

We came to this restaurant on a Saturday evening without a prior booking, during a quieter time of he year. The restaurant was quite busy, but had a free table for us. We got our menu's and drinks almost instantly, followed by poppadoms. We all ordered a different main and some sides which were all delicious and full of flavour. Can't fault the food it was really good. As for the restaurant the staff were okay - neither rude nor very friendly. The atmosphere was cosy, because downstairs isn't a very large room, but they could do with a small scale refurb to make the surroundings as good as the food is. The bar area looked particularly sad... With an improved look and hospitality this would be a 5/5 place. Overall, we cleared our plates - I'd come back again!

This restaurant needs its name changed to Fast Food Tandoori Cafe!Having booked a table for 7.30 pm, the table not prepared.Room like a greenhouse, no air! On a very hot day first thing I would have done was switch on air con!Drinks order taken quickly plus number of poppadoms required. Poppadoms and drinks arrived within a couple of minutes. Three times interrupted for order. We were told by Manager that the table would be needed by 8 pm. When quizzed that the table was booked for 7.30 pm. The restaurant was not busy and his whole tone very poor. In a flippant remark we were told to eat our poppadoms and leave !!!!Avoid. This us not the place to go to for a leisurely evening meal! This would have been a very lucrative order and benefitted the restaurant financially, especially as the evening went on! The Manager was rude and obnoxious. We took him at his word and left!!My advice there are lots of lovely restaurants in Cowes, use them!

We went to Cowes Tandoori on the day of the Round The Island Race. Very hot in restaurant and had to ask for the air conditioning to be put on as very uncomfortable. Were enjoying our popodums that they suggested we had as soon as we sat down but had not had the chance to check the menu for our main course. Manager interrupted us to say that our table was booked for 8pm and we had to order our main course now. We had booked for 7.30pm was not expecting to have to eat our meal within just half an hour! Said we would choose our main meal after we had had our starter and the manager virtually asked us to leave and accused us of only drinking water. Did not enjoy our starter because of the Managers harassment of us. He was extremely rude - I have never experienced customer service like this before. He was obviously trying to max out his profits. He didn't realise that we were all local and could have recommended the restaurant if we had had a good time. Instead he virtually chased us out of the door. I feel very sorry for the staff who work under this manager as he has no people skills whatsoever. Do not go to this restaurant until he has been replaced. Such service is just appalling and we were left feeling confused and embarrassed by the whole episode.

We visit Cowes Tandoori probably six times each year. Food is fine, but be wary if you are a light eater. We ordered poppadoms, a starter to share, a main course, also to share, a side dish and naan, only to be told we MUST have two mains - which actually would have cost less but it wasn't what we fancied. We just wanted lots different tastes. Strange rule and delivered by a surly waiter who was 'only following orders.' Hubby had looked on trip advisor before we left home to get a good idea of where to eat. So already knew, by reviews, that on a Tuesday night they had a special price menu. So we had a look in the window at the menu before going in, and was surprised to see a sign saying you are welcome to bring your own drinks, we thought that meant they were not licensed, so popped down the road and bought bottles of large Cobras and wine, when we got back we were shocked to find they were licensed and had a good variety of drinks. As it happened bringing our own saved quite a bit of money, and they didn't mind a bit. Just opened our bottles and provided us with glasses for nothing. On top of this we had a fabulous meal we got starters, couldn't believe my cousin got 3 huge onion bajees as a starter, and a main meal with either rice or nan, the portions were very good, the food excellent, and the staff friendly, came away feeling very contented.

14 out for a meal - we pre-ordered in advance and actually the food wasn't too bad apart from the wait which was lengthy resulting in rice's and sides being cold by the time the main arrived...! These were grudgingly replaced (microwaved) and returned. With 14 people and pre-ordered in advance each of us knew exactly what we would pay for our meals however one of our group wished to pay by card rather than cash. The waiter was angered (not an exaggeration) by this and said you must pay cash with your friends. It was explained that the customer had a card but no cash and knew exactly what his bill came to and what he would pay (his meal as we had all agreed). To cut a long story short, after all the aggressive finger waving by the waiter and manager, raised voices in front of the group and other customers as well as at one point the customer being surrounded by 3 other waiters which was very intimidating to say the least card payment ewas accepted but even then following totalling up of all the o0thers, they attempted to overcharge by some £30.00.The service was poor, food was OK but the attitude and sheer aggressiveness of the staff means that I will not (and would highly recommend that you do not) go to this hateful place - fortunately there are far better places to eat in Cowes - avoid this one at all costs...!

They accepted £50 in the end which was what the meal was worth. I am giving a one as in the process of this they locked me and my 12 year old daughter and 14 year old son in their restaurant and threatened to call the police! This is completely unacceptable behaviour. I am absolutely incensed!

Walked in off the street and were offered a table for two. The waiter was very unfriendly (bit worrying). Ordered a bottle of wine mainly based on the price as we were on a bit of a budget. Had an average meal nothing horrible but certainly nothing special! Asked for the bill which came to more than we thought. Added it up on iPhone and realised it was 5 pounds over. Spoke to the waiter and he told us our wine we ordered was 19.95 and not 14.95 which we had read. Asked the table next to us to tell us how much they thought our wine was according to the menus and 6 out of 6 said the menu said 14.95 not 19.95. Tried to tell the waiter that we would not have ordered that particular wine if it was nearly 20 pound and he would not listen. Eventually paid what we thought our bill should have been and left with the rude waiter shouting after us "u will never be served in this restaurant again". This is not a problem as we don't live on the island as we are here on a break but just want to say to everyone "check your bill and also the prices (handwritten and very mis leading before u order). Shame our night was spoilt by rudeness and a very mis leading menu.

The kids' Korma was great. My vindaloo was pants. When will Indian restaurants realise that potato is NOT an ingredient of vindaloo. Originally it was pork, vinegar and garlic from the Portuguese settlers. Lookup vinegar and garlic in Portuguese and you'll get Vindaloo. Not a bit of Aloo near it. Maybe they do it because they think it's Anglicised. Anyway, no flavour, little heat and tough chicken, rubbish. Service was good. When I was un-British and didn't say "lovely thanks" to the "how's the food question" they did offer to change. It. I didn't, but appreciated the offer. A star for that. There are two other Indian restaurants within 200m, how I wish I'd chosen one of them

I was stunned to be sat in a bland restaurant that served bland food with no spice involved and arrogant staff with the charisma of a sea sponge.I was further disappointed when some fellow guests arrived with a crate of cider and proceeded to open the crate in order to consume the stuff at the table beside us with no complaints from the staff. This was further confounded by a table full of what seemed like some ten rugby fans shouting and swearing very loudly as if they had just won the World Cup.If you like this sort of thing, this is the restaurant for you!

celebrating our 5th anniversary, we decided on a Sunday evening curry in our new home town. the food was ok but nothing special, my main lacked much meat or had far too much sauce!! generous portion of rice and a really well cooked Nan made the visit enjoyable enough but will try the other two Indians before we go back.

We ordered the vegetarian meal for 2 and the normal meal for 2 and had enough food to feed seven of us. Every dish was very well cooked and tasted really nice. We will try the restaurant soon but if their take away food is an indicator then they are a very nice place to go and eat.

Looking for a reasonable priced restaurant in town we came across this venue. Curry night on Tuesday, starter main and coffee for £10.95! Take your own wine and no corkage charge. The menu was extensive. Five star hygiene classification. The table was nicely laid with linen tablecloth. The Curry was excellent and portions were ample and hot with good service. All in all a great find on our visit to the Isle of Wight and will certainly visit again. Thoroughly recommended. Would advise advance booking.

OK. I've taken a food hygiene course. I wouldn't eat anywhere that doesn't proudly display it's local authority food hygiene stars (5 stars are not all that hard to achieve ) - why would you? There are three Indian restaurants in Cowes and only Cowes Tandoori displays their stars (yep, a full five). Bahar Tandoori has a picture or Richard Branson in the window. Saffron has some guff about an Elvis impersonator. No food hygiene stars though - and that makes me wonder why. Actually I have already written and published a full review of Saffron - it's in my book on UK curry houses, Tandoori Nights (on Kindle but be careful as there is some porn with the same title and that's always hard to explain to the wife). So, and in my opinion quite understandably, for the time being I will only choose Cowes Tandoori when in Cowes. It's a no frills curry house and that's exactly what the doctor's ordered some times. No leather bound menu, stretching to twenty pages, with a mission statement from the owners and a few words from the executive chef. Just a folded, pretty garish laminated job and that's fine by me. No draught lager, just the 660ml bottles of Cobra which is less fine.I chose a Garlic King Prawn starter and a Chicken Tikka Vindaloo, Bhagan Bhaji and Garlic Naan for my main course. I went a little off piste with my Chicken Tikka Vindaloo as it wasn't on the menu but they were more than happy to oblige. No poppadoms - watching the weight.Starter came relatively quickly - it was a Friday night at about 1930hrs but it was quite and empty (it had filled up, just like me, by the time I left though). Six or so large and moist king prawns - and I'm not sad enough to count for your reading pleasure, in a rich, very garlicky sauce served with the ubiquitous shredded lettuce and quartered tomato. Nice starter. The Chicken Tikka Vindaloo was a fiery brick red in colour and delivered quite a heat punch. Just large and numerous good quality chunks of tikka chicken, potato and sauce. No fresh chillies (thankfully and I never thought I'd say that) though. One of the hottest and best Vindaloos that I have had for a while - I ordered a Phall in Cheshire recently that wouldn't have been strong enough to sensibly defend itself against Cowes Tandoori's Chicken Tikka Vindaloo. The Garlic Naan was excellent to - just that right balance of thin and crispy against puffy and moist. Ate it all and that's unusual. The aubergine dish was good too. Aubergine chunks in a tomato and garlic sauce - too much garlic gave me terrible wind later much to the wife's annoyance (apparently I even farted in my sleep which is quite a skill albeit a rash and potentially dangerous one after such a robust Vindaloo).I completely cleared my plate which is testament to the quality and tastiness of the food and not my atavistic gluttony. So, it's Cowes Tandoori every time for me until I see those shiny council stars in the windows of other establishments (and from what I have heard there's little likelihood of that).Even my local sailing club, that is staffed completely by untrained volunteers, has five stars - why would you eat anywhere that doesn't?

We have now been to this restaurant several time an have been disappointed. The food is always of a high standard and the service is second to none. Give the place a try. For those of you who do not like very spicy food the extensive menu has a good selection of fine but mild dishes. Well done Cowes Tandoori

Arrived wet as we got caught in a shower on the walk down, but we were welcomed and our wet coats and umbrella taken away to dry. We thought this was a small restaurant as it is small when you walk in, but there are also tables upstairs.Staff were knowledgeable about the menu and food arrived quickly and well presented.Food was lovely and not overly spicy which is always hard to know when it is not your local Indian.Overall an enjoyable meal.

On a Tuesday's it's a set menu for around a tenner. This includes a starter, main and coffee. If your going with friends you can create a good meal to share. It's a bring your own bottle and they don't charge corkage, and do take your own the house white wine isn't great. Skip the coffee though, it's just bad. The portions are just enough that your not hungry. I regularly go on a Tuesday with friends and would recommend it. But I wouldn't go any other time when the set meal isn't on. I went last night a ordered less than I do with the set meal. I forgot to BYO wine, so bought there's. The total meal was three times the cost, and honestly not any better.

Not the place to go during Cowes Week as it feels a bit like a production line but otherwise for the remaining 51 weeks each year it is a lovely spot after a few post sailing ales. Been there for years - I have used it for about 30!

A nicely balanced place. Tidy, calm, very good waiter, the music was not too loud, but clear. The food was tasty, arrived in time - I have taken vegetarian starter and Duck Tikka Masala. My wife took cold King Prawns tandoori for starter and the same, but hot for the main course. The dessert was superb, the lemon stuffed with lemon sorbet occurs to be my favourite dessert since now :) One advice: do not order coffee. It is average. Take tea.I was there for the first time, my wife was there more than a year ago: it seems to her that the quality is stable. In short: not cheap, but very tasty and very good atmosphere.Highly recommend.

My brother orderd a takeaway here for all 4 of us.I did tell him to avoid this place, but he was willing to try it for himself. The food was not hot, and rather cold. Very bland, and not worth the money. Food came very quick which made us wonder if it was straight from the fridge and not cooked. It seems everyone in Cowes has the same opinion who we spoke to. . Didn't bother phoning to complain because the manager is never interested. The only thing he is good at is smiling as you get ripped off. And then making up his own reviews on trip advisor. From now on I think we will either use bahhar up the road, At least the food tastes good and you can take your own drinks in and the guys there do look after you.

I wouldn't go as far as saying this place is terrible but if you could imagine having an empty restaurant where you bring your own drinks and all that it there is a microwave and cutlery then you bring your own supermarket curries and that would be a good description how the food appears to be prepared. The waiter is very quick to clear your tables and they do not seem very sociable. They are however very polite and smile when they greet you. They are far from terrible but do require improvement on there food.

Expensive takeaway of average quality. Food & Hygiene Rating 2!! Only saw this when I went to collect the food, if I knew that I would have avoided. Avoid the onion bhaji it was like eating fried hay. The chicken chat puri was a tika version with a very sad looking and unappetising salad. The best dish was the Lamb jalfresi which tasted very nice. The Nans were of a good size and cooked well. Having lived in India and Nepal I’m used to making my own curries, but I was tired and thought I’d treat myself. Prices were steep for an Indian takeaway compared to London but I thought judging by the area of Seaview the food quality would also reflect the prices, not so. Glad that I didn’t eat inside, there is no atmosphere at all whatsoever and no one in sight, very strange.

Vegetarian options are very poor. Veg Korma and Veg Masala, basically potato in a sugary sauce. Very inauthentic, any flavour overwhelmed by the sweetness.

Had a take away while on holiday. It was by far the absolute worst Indian food we have ever had. We spent £88 for four people and threw away £80 pounds worth. Please never order from these people. It was disgusting

What a great Indian Restaurant ! Meant to write a review after visiting 4 months ago but circumstances took over. We are on a mission to dine at every Indian restaurant on the Island, rate and review them, so far 10 down and this ranks right up there with the best, on our scale coming in at a 9.5. Visited on a Wednesday night and surprised to see the place comfortably busy for October! Both the Staff are very knowledgeable and welcoming with a real desire to make sure you have an enjoyable night. Our meals: Crisp fresh poppadoms and chutneys, accompanied 2 very tasty Tandoori lamb chops for a starter, the obligatory bottle of Cobra to wash our meals down with. The mains: Naga chilli lamb (absolutely lovely, succulent and plenty of it with a great sauce and not all heat over taste , Chicken Madras again really good portion size plenty of juicy Chicken , Basmati rice, Saag Paneer perfect foil to the heat of the curries) and Cauliflower Bhaji (had a kick to it). Whilst still on our mission, we will be back again as could not really fault it.Well Done Eastern eye
