Sadly since first coming here a couple of years ago and really enjoying it, our experiences have steadily gone down hill. It has a good, varied, reasonably priced menu and we personally enjoy the farm setting but what frustrated us the most this time was the total lack of acknowledgement whilst waiting to order for several minutes which left us feeling invisible, rudely treated and resulted in us nearly walking out. Had it not been for our child's hunger and not knowing where else to go quickly we would have done. One staff member left us at the counter and start clearing tables and then stood chatting and petting a customers dog, one was busy making drinks and others just looked at us from the kitchen. A simple prompt acknowledgement we were waiting would have helped and a speedier return to the counter from the other staff member and an apology for the wait. It was clear we were waiting to order. We then had to wait a good 35-40 minutes for food - there was only one other order for 2 people in front of us. Appreciate it's not fast food but for what we ordered for 3 of us shouldn't have taken that long. The food was just ok. There seemed plenty of staff milling about for how busy the cafe was at that time. Also the cafe itself and tables generally didnt appear that clean. Feels like standards have slipped and it has gone downhill. Will sadly think twice about returning based on our experience this time.

Unique Venue. On arrival, one experiences the aroma of a working farm. Cows being the stars 🌟 of the show. Food is good! Plenty of choice, & plenty of it. Staff are friendly. An unusual vibe, suitable for all.

Really nice cafe, good layout, lots of tables. Friendly staff, excellent cafe style food. Steak pie was just superb. Anne ( I think) served us, she was new, very friendly and smiley. Great place to visit with family or friends. The all day breakfasts were also very good.

we have often heard how good this place was,we called today for a coffee and a tea , which we had to wait 15 mins for they told us if we wanted food it was a 30 min wait but judging by the empty tables they were not what i would describe as busy ,a general observation was a Cafe in the middle of working farm yard which i am sure kids just loved ,however we failed to find many pluses on the food side ,a lot of tables had plates of wasted food and had not been cleared away and we had to ask someone to wipe the table we found which had no pots on it but had not been cleaned called at the farm shop for some sausages and were served by a old guy who was coughing periodically without covering his mouth while serving us raw meat ,not good , did not experience any reason to return here other than to see the farm animals ,so disappointing to say the least

When the cafe first opened, it was a great place to go for food and beautiful home made cakes. As time has gone by, there has been a big decline in the cleanliness, quality of food and service. Today was extremely disappointing and our complaint was not handled well at all. On arrival at the cafe, there were piles of boxes, some with cakes/buns in, scattered on the floor (sealed thank goodness), tables full of used plates not cleared up ( some had quite a lot of food left so not sure if that's because it wasn't very good) and the cafe wasn't even busy. The floor and seats looked like someone had just thrown food all over them and the toilet was pretty dire with a lock that didn't work and a very wet yucky floor.. Our choice of food was not complicated. Just a jacket potato with cheese. There should have been coleslaw, but once again, they had run out. The potato looked an awful brown colour inside and not at all fresh. We complained to the staff who were not particularly bothered telling us it was the last one otherwise they would have changed it. At no time did they offer a refund until we complained again. I can safely say we will never return until they get a good manager back in there who gets it back on track. Such a shame as it's a lovely spot and has a great farm shop next door.

TERRIBLE, absolutely filthy and the farmers were unpleasant and so rude! Bad vibe and I can’t describe how dirty it was the cups and knifes etc were discussing! I have googled them and they have been closed down previously for poor hygiene and animal neglect and running an establishment without a licence! Sums it all up I think!

First time I visited this cafe a few years ago now it was lovely but unfortunately it has gone down hill. It’s just a gloomy dark cafe with average food, it’s basically a canteen for all the miserable farmers who work on the farm. I witnessed the lovely lady running the counter being spoken to very rudely by the farmers which set off the whole vibe of the cafe altogether. There’s no music and the vibe for the cafe is just depressing. The drinks we received were in filthy cups and tea pots and the food was so average I wish I just cooked breakfast at home. Left the cafe feeling annoyed by the money we wasted and wish we went somewhere else for our bank holiday breakfast treat. Won’t be visiting again.

This is undoubtedly a lovely venue and was a welcome stop off for breakfast on our walk from Tideswell. We were served quickly and efficiently and the drinks and food came out promptly. Generally the food was fine and we would almost certainly come again although probably order different items. However, the toast was very brittle and dry for our daughter, the two poached egg meals came on completely different types of bread with mine on a toasted bread cake, and another egg breakfast arrived with butter despite a clear request for it to to come without. Personally, it was evident that my eggs had been poached in water with lots of vinegar which effected the overall taste significantly…and negatively. Overall a nice Saturday morning with a few minor issues that effected the overall rating of this visit. Confident it could (and probably will be) better on our next visit.

55min wait for a mediocre breakfast. Worry how long the wait would be on a busy day. Equivalent to a greasy spoon rather than a nice home cooked farm breakfast. Definitely lots of better places around and about

An INCREDIBLE Sunday lunch. I am a breakfast regular at the Cow Shed Cafe. Last weekend a mate and I decided to try the Sunday lunch, It was just exceptional. Large Sunday lunch for £10...a huge plate full, five different sorts of veg, roast and mashed potatoes, two Yorkshire puddings and a mound of absolutely delicious roast lamb (other meats are available) with lashings of gravy. This must be the best roast dinner in Sheffield and Derbyshire. My mate had the gammon...a great big thick slice, he said it was the best he'd eaten in years. All the meat comes from the farm shop. I am going to be back...fab value, cooked to perfection.

We love farm life, seeing farm animals so the Cow Shed Cafe is a great place for me to take my growing family! Our younger children get very excited about the viewing window inside the cafe. Would be even better if there was 2 viewing windows. During our March visit we were lucky enough to see a newborn lamb coming into the world through the "special" window . Staff are pretty flexible with the menu , good food choice for adults, children and including Gluten Free. Spacious eating area, indoor toilets, farm shop, park area. Suitable for disabled. Reasonable prices, generous food portions. Afternoon teas available. Party bookings taken. Remember that this is a "working" farm and can be muddy 😂All part of the fun . We'll be back soon 🐮🐄

I love and applaud the idea of this relaxed, family oriented farm cafe. At its best it can be a really pleasant, informal, quick home cooked meal with plenty of interest for the kids with the animals on actual working farm. However more often than not now, the service is very dreary and the food is so slow (30-60 minute wait times). For a local cafe, it is presently lacking in familiarity (unless you’re a horse rider there). If the staff were more sincere and friendly, and the food service less chaotic, then I would have no problems giving this place a 5 -star review. There’s already sufficient staff to achieve better efficiency and more consistency, given the right attitude and organisation. However, with the recent price increases (market driven no doubt,) it’s getting more difficult to make excuses for the service issues - which need a bit of improvement. I wish this place all the best - don’t hesitate to give it a try - on a good day it can be just right!

I do love a nice breakfast and, over this place does a great breakfast. Since discovering it about four weeks ago, I have been calling in one morning every weekend. So, what's so good about it...incredible value, you get a full, 2 bacon, 2 sausage, 2 eggs, black pudding, beans, tomatoes, mushrooms, a hash brown two slices of real toast AND a free hot drink, in my case a latte for ONLY £8...yes £8!!! Must be the best value breakfast in the County The bacon and sausages are from the farm (there is a farm shop attached, with a butcher selling all of the meat from the farm quick plug for the homemade meat pies), proper sausage, the eggs are cooked in the old fashioned way and delicious. The whole lot is everything a full English should be. Awesome value. For those who like cattle, there's a viewing window between the cowshed and the cafe. I have really started to look forward to my weekly visits and now organise my Saturday or Sunday around breakfast. They also open at 9.00am on Saturday and Sunday, top tip...get there early and avoid the queues...they do get busy! Slight negative, sometimes the car park is a bit ofba challenge and it can take 15 minutes or so for the food to appear BUT its worth the wait. I keep meaning to call in at lunchtime, they do a lunch menu but the breakfast fills me up until teatime, so I never quite make it.

Limited menu, basically food produced for farm shop. That suits me fine. Quality of all ingredients so very good. And incredible value £8 for huge tasty, well cooked breakfast with gorgeous hot buttered toast and an ok cup of coffee (cant honestly say I'd call in just for a coffee). It was busy, we had to wait. I guess alternative is quick service of pre cooked food? Love the cows!

My partner took me here for my birthday, and we had a lovely time. We were welcomed for drinks and an explanation of the menu options before being shown to our table, which was great. The food was genuine and flavourful, with a clear importance placed on local ingredients being used to their full potential. A extensive wine collection, once we'd picked a bottle the helpful wine waiter was happy to recommend something "similar but different" for a second- I can appreciate this isn't an easy feat! All in all, we had a lovely night at The Old Vicarage. All the staff were helpful and polite, and the food was exemplary.
