The ambience is nice and the food is quite good but expensive for what you get, same with the drinks. I fancied a sirloin (at £29 the most expensive menu item) and it said it came with fat cut chips and a side salad. No mention of mushroom, tomato, peas or onion rings which usually come with steak, particularly at that price. In fact for that price, most places include a sauce. I asked the waitress if it came with I onion rings (as I note they come with a burger half the price) and she went to check. She returned to say the kitchen told her if I wanted onion rings I had to order a side portion (at £4.25 extra). So if I wanted a steak with a couple of onion rings and a side of sauce I’d be pushing towards £40. Erm no. The chips aren’t even hand cut - they’re frozen! I ordered the hanging belly pork instead at half the price (since they were too greedy to make me a couple of onion rings) and it was ok. The portion was quite small. The pork was very fatty (even by belly pork standards) and the pitta was quite doughy like it should’ve been put in the oven for a few minutes but they’d not bothered. It was acceptable. I like White Hart and I’ll return, since there’s not much choice in the middle of town and we were going to the theatre after, but a short drive out of town there’s much better value for money in terms of portion size, quality, what accompaniments you get for the price (and having proper hand-cut chips).

Was served by Leah who is a credit to the team. Had a hot chocolate which was yummy. One of the best! Decided on the liver and bacon with vegetables which was very nice. Would've been even nicer if it was about 50% bigger. I would recommend this place. They have a good choice on the afternoon menu and I intend to work my way through it over the coming months.

Returned to the White Hart for my favourite egg mayo lunchtime sandwich. Lovely staff - apologies that I have forgotten the names of the male servers who looked after me this time - and comfortable surroundings. A big plus is that they don't hurry you along to clear for any next prospective customer. Again, looking forward to returning. Thank you everyone.

Went with a friend for a birthday lunch. We were greeted by a very lovely lady that showed us too our seats. We then realised we had a dog underneath our table jumping up our legs.We moved tables and we were not aware that the restaurant was dog friendly.I must add that if people wish too take there dogs into a restaurant there should be a separate part. You may love your dogs but not everyone feels the same way.Especially when it’s not under your table!! Then came coffee and maltesers in a shot glass with finger prints on them. The coffee was lovely. Then our lunch we both had chicken.but unfortunately only one plate was placed on the table.we had too wait for the second plate. The chicken was like rubber.we left it and the manager didn’t charge us.Such a shame that the place had changed so much in a year.We won’t be going back,I do not choose to dine with everyone’s pets.

Had a Meal at the weekend to celebrate Sons engagement.3 Meals were excellent. My daughter and I ordered a Butternut Squash ,Cauliflower Curry, When the Curries arrived there was no Butternut Squash on either of servings, mainly consisted of only Cauliflower, slices of Onion, Tomato Sauce, very Bland. Alerted the Waitress who went to Kitchen returning eventually with a small dish of cooked Squash, stated the Chef had stated the meal had already had squash added which was untrue. Have eater here before but not again!!!

Very much enjoyed 3 meals here during our stay. We liked the informality but not at the expense of very good food (double thumbs up to the kitchen), value for money prices, and, as with the hotel, attentive and friendly servers. If we lived locally, we would be regulars! (Thanks to Kingsley, Mikolaj, Sharz? with special mention for Sinead).

Dropped on for a snack as haven’t been for years. The place looks good and the food was fine (service fast and front of house staff friendly and efficient) but the experience was totally marred by the arrival of workmen who then bellowed at each other continuously, switched lights and and off and testing electrical circuits utterly oblivious to the diners who had paid good money for lunch. I should think the other end of town now knows which breakers control what at the White Hart. Really not great - perhaps get the builders in when you are closed or at least ask them to tone it down if it’s an emergency job !

My first honest review was written on Father's Day. I was forced to remove it or it would reflect very, very, very badly on a member of Staff. We had first family meal in 16 months for Father's Day. Service was slow. My starter humus was hot, dry and cracked? My vegetarian Risotto was very sour? I did not eat most of it, waitress just shrugged. We did not get our meals at the same time, one main came over 10 minutes later with frozen Yorkshire Pudding? It was quicker to order drinks via their app? Had to as twice to get table cleared? Etc. Etc. Great shame!

Having enjoyed a previous visit inside just for coffee and a cream scone, we decided to return for lunch and eat al fresco. Everything was just great: the view of St. Botolph's, our fabulous server Ash, our sandwich, salad and drinks. We had a lovely experience, and are sure to return. Thank you to all concerned. (Future guests might like to know that a 10% service charge is added to the bill automatically; however, we felt the bill was well-priced and our service excellent, so we didn't give a second thought to any waiver. I shall also place this review in the hotel section of the site, as diners seem to use that too.)

My wife and I visited the White Hart after reading a review in a local magazine. We ate in the courtyard eatery and had a nice lunch. The service was good and food was well prepared and tasty. I had the Mussel and Cod cheek chowder it was tasty but a little thin for a chowder and was served with some bread. Had it been served with french fries and sold as a Belgian dish like Moules Frite it would have been exceptional. We do not often visit Boston but if we did we would eat at the White Hart again.

Starter was white onion soup which was a small portion but came with nice hot ciabatta and butter. Tasted good. The main was average - chicken with cheese and bacon topping with chunky chips. The chicken was well cooked although i occasionally tasted the 'farm smell' i think from the bacon. For £12 i'd say it wasn't any better than what you'd get from a Wethers for half the price. I think they recommend such dishes because it is high profit margin or they want to shift stock quickly, not because of the taste which overall was average. The rhubarb and raspberry crumble dessert was good.I gave 3 because for the price, i'd say the food was average. The staff were excellent, as always. 1 person, 3 course, 2 pints of diet coke and an Americano, £32.

My wife and I have used this restaurant a few times mainly because it is usually mid afternoon before we eat and we have struggled to find somewhere good in central Boston that isn't empty or have finished serving food, The White Hart at 3,30 on a Saturday when we arrived was not too busy but there were quite a few people eating and we were greeted warmly by the staff and shown to a table. The food is pretty good and nicely presented. There is plenty of choice - a sandwich menu, grazing menu and the main menu. Today we had home made steak and ale pie with veg and fish and chips - all good. The menu also has sizzling dishes, salads, Beef Bourguignon, mussels, various roast chicken dishes and many more. We only had the mains today but they also usually have a good selection of desserts. The prices are very slightly on the high side but worth it to east in a nice ambiance and know the food will be good.

I have just stayed a night at this hotel and the reception was slow as no body there for ten minuets on arrival, I then was told did you reserve a parking space, this I would assume if your booking a room you get priority over a restaurant booking, then I was checked in and was given my key, it was at the top of the hotel on the second floor and as there is no lifts in the hotel I struggled with my bag due to having a bad knee, the room was ok until I got into bed it was very hard and lumpy, the shower in the morning was very slow and I have been in heavier rain showers, the ceiling of the bedroom above the bed had cob webs all over it so all in all it was not my best stay, on a positive note the food was very good and the service to match, A bit pricey for bar food. Also I would like to point out that in the event of a fire you could be in danger as there is a number of chairs stacked in the corridors that could prove a problem and is defiantly a fire hazard.

I arrived here with friends it was my first visit and I thought how nice the surroundings where and thought we were in for a meal to remember. My meal was served with salad, I was expecting a salad possibly comprising olives roasted peppers maybe pine nuts but what I got was the type of salad my grandmother used to serve many many years ago cold and wet lettuce, one hard cold unripe tomato cut into 4, a few slices of cucumber and some red onion, I was staggered I order lots of salads and I can say quite honestly this was the worst excuse for a salad I've ever come across, there was also no dressing on the salad so I requested some olive oil and balsamic vinegar, I got the vinegar but no olive oil I didn't do anything about that as I decided the salad wasn't worth the effort. My friend ordered sweet potato chips as a side but never got them and couldn't find anyone to ask about it and the coffee was dire. All in all I'd never go back a shame really as Boston could do with a restaurant that served really good food not just pub grub !!!

It’s been done up ... again, and quite nicely, but still retains that quirkiness of having the old coaching road going through the middle, making it two buildings connected by a roof. The morning sun catches the outside area and is no doubt an ideal place for coffee, less so for afternoon tea as it becomes a shaded area.Parking was a bit of an issue, there are signs, external and within the car parks offering warnings to those that are dare to enter. We parked anyway and went to the reception to ask if it was OK. ‘oh yes, just sign in this book’ so we did and stayed.Afternoon tea has 3 options: 1. tea/coffee and scones2. tea/coffee , scones and sandwiches3. And finally the full monty tea/coffee, scones, sandwiches and a glass of champers, the last offering priced at £15.50 per person. It had been a hard day at work so we went full on and received our two champagne flutes whilst awaiting the onslaught of food. The new furniture does not support sitting for long periods of time, we did manage a couple of synchronised bottom shuffles, which amused both we two and a few onlookers, but were pleased to get up and walk at the end of our hour and quarter interlude. The three tiered plate arrived, with real cloth napkins and heavy cutlery, well done it does make a difference. There were 4 salmon, 4 soft cheese and 4 ham finger sandwiches, 4 warm scones, a pot of really thick heavy duty cream and a little jar of strawberry preserve, 2 mini trifles which my wife described as adorable and finally 5 small pastries/ cakes, this with a pot of tea and a cup of coffee. The coffee was I think the last cup from a pot, not so good but a very minor point, and was served with milk; a little jug of cream could have lifted the event. We liked the fact that the scones were warm, and the sandwiches fresh, in fact everything was as it should be.The 3 staff that we met (reception, bar and serving) we all very friendly and polite, we were left alone and not interrupted with the usual silliness of ‘is everything alright?’, actually being left alone did mean I had to ask for a second cup of coffee, rather than being offered one, thinking about it a pot would have been better. On leaving we both decided that we were not going to bother with dinner that night as we were quite full. An on the spur of the moment decision had proved to have rather a fortuitous outcome. Well done the White hart.

I eat here 2-3 times a week and the food is always excellent. The staff are so friendly and welcoming and the service is first-class. It was refurbished a few months ago and is very smart and comfortable with a mix of sofas and tables. The new doors from the town bridge side look great!

I took my Mum for her birthday for Afternoon Tea. I had reserved before and was taken straight to a table, by a great member of staff, who attended to us well through all our meal. He got us a pot of tea straight away, and then the food came within 10 minutes, and was great. For 2 of us, there was probably enough for 3! We were stuffed, and we were given a little box to take some of the cake that we had left! Brilliant food, brilliant value for £20, brilliant service and will certainly be there again!

This bar appeared to be very popular with the locals which is always a good indication of the standard. Good local ales and nice wines. The bar was buzzing on both the evenings of our stay,

We went for afternoon tea on the 2nd January 2016, staff were very friendly and the we couldn't fault the service, lovely in the freshly decorated main bar. The afternoon tea itself was very tasty and also I was amazed at how filling it was. Definitely go back again.

Apparently the Courtyard Bar has just re-opened after being refurbished although this was our first visit so no idea what it was like before but now - it's gorgeous! There's a comfortable seating area in the front for what it looks like coffee and cake etc, then a very long and comfy looking Bar and at the end and around the corner a very nice 'restaurant'. The food coming out to all tables looked pretty special, good portions, nice variety of colour and not too much 'faffing' with it! By that I mean these arty chefs who touch your food all over getting things standing or sitting where they want them, can't stand other people's fingers all over my food! We had the pre-christmas menu (early xmas lunch with the in-laws and a belated 80th birthday lunch combined) which had at least 3 choices within the starters, main and dessert. The table was laid nicely with crackers etc and cutlery & crockery all nice and clean. Our main waitress, Emily, was lovely, smart and professional looking, spoke nicely and was very polite and helpful; although in fact the other waitress that helped bring our food out and a waiter that served us some drinks were also really nicely turned out, smart and professional looking and very polite and helpful. I couldn't fault the waiting staff at all.A roll was served to each person with their starter. The homemade roast tomato and basil soup was excellent, very tasty and thick. The melon with ginger and apricot, again very tasty and nice to have something fairly traditional but with a modern twist on it. And the crayfish and prawn starter, again a fairly traditional starter but updated with a new look and addition of crayfish - perfect! The main meals were superb. Roast Beef, Roast Turkey and Baked Salmon all cooked perfectly. The meat was thickly sliced and there was plenty of it, a little too much for the kids but that was fine as we helped them out there quite willingly! The only thing I might mention would be to have a gravy boat rather than the gravy already over the meat and potatoes but apart from that, really great. The vegetables arrived seperately in a dish for the 6 of us to share and there was a good selection of cauliflower, broccoli, green beans, carrots and sprouts. All looked very bright and fresh and all cooked perfectly for me, not crunchy but not soft and squidgy either! The desserts again were superbly tasting, the chocolate mousse was rich but not sickly and it was just the right portion after a big meal. The salted caramel cheesecake-I could have taken home a whole one! So tasty, with crushed peanut brittle on top and toffee sauce-really lovely. And the christmas pudding was fairly standard, not overly keen on the catering idea of a slice of a bar shaped pudding but the taste is what's important and it was very nice, although to be honest the brandy custard outshone the pudding by far. I could have taken a good pint or more of that home with me! And all at £18 per person which I thought was pretty good. The general meals looked to be around £10 each which isn't bad for a good quality meal served well.Unfortunately for us, it's at least a 3 hour drive up to Boston but I wouldn't hesitate going to the Courtyard Bar every month if we lived locally. We've been to a few places with the In-laws to eat in town and so far this is by far the nicest for food and service.

We stopped unexpectedly for dinner on Thursday prior to going to the theatre. This was with my daughter and friend. The staff were very welcoming and attentive. Food was excellent and my daughter loved her meal and ate it all which is unusual. The environment and decor has been improved since my last visit. The waitress that served us was lovely, warm and friendly. The only disappointment was that she had to go hunting for a full salt mill as they appeared all empty. We lived the experience.

Nice place, needs updating in the decor (re painting) to operate at the finer end of dining its trying to be. The sofa's are wonderful to relax and read your paper. The staff are usually very good, but they do have off days depending who is on. The food at lunch is good, nothing special, standard fayre really. It gets very busy at weekends and trying to order drinks is a nightmare. The restaurant is separate and pretty good, bit expensive for the menu offered, but is a hideaway from the weekend mayhem in the bar.

Stayed here again this week and it was certainly a marked improvement (generally) from the numerous business visits almost two years ago where the decor was extremely tired and certainly wanting.By chance I was upgraded this time to one of the executive suites (104) and on entering was suitably impressed with the size of the room, comprising of a super kingside bed (an entire family could lie in it!) a roll top bath at the foot of the bed, huge lounge, separate walk in wardrobe, separate shower room and hallway. I was informed by reception that this suite was situated near or just above the bar so the music could be heard at times and if this became an issue to contact them and they would turn it down. This didn't continue past 11pm anyway so not a problem for me however I didn't realise the actual walls, floors or ceiling of this room were made of paper!? I didn't sleep a wink all night because I could actually here people brushing their teeth either directly next door, above or below me; I couldn't really work out where. I heard all their conversation, moving around their room and snoring. Trust me the snoring wasn't that loud either but given the paper thin walls it was clear as a bell. Never known anything like it, more so for a building this old. Given the actual size of the suite it wouldn't go amiss to lose a couple of inches from the internal wall and sound proof it properly. The mattress was also extremely uncomfortable and hard, a pity as the pillows were great but it was impossible to even manage a cat nap. One other noticeable thing (concern) was that some of the floors and walls throughout the hotel were uneven, so much so that the door in my shower room snuggly touched the floor on the hinges side but there was then a 1.5inch gap on the opposite side of the door.Moving onto food....The previous evening I had grabbed a quick night cap and noted a number of very well presented and so it appeared, well cooked dishes passing by so much so i wish I had eaten at the hotel. It was clear they've certainly lifted their game with the food and breakfast this morning was equally as good. They have also put a bit of money into improving the decor of the restaurant / breakfast room but the windows still haven't seen a window cleaner since my first and last visit! They are disgusting; glass and frames. This hotel still has some way to go before it can be in a position to shows its full potential.

As ever, difficulty in choosing a comfortable venue to eat in Boston for an early mid week meal. The actual venue and location of The White Hart Hotel is stupendous considering the fact we are in Boston. Comfortable for a drink as the hotel affords sofas to help relax whilst indulging. However, I am amazed at the comparative very expensive cost of once again, sub standard food. As per my other reviews we have experienced sublime food for the same price as we paid at The White Hart Boston. On the occasion in question my wife was served fish and chips which was mediocre. I couldn't find anything on the menu to tickle my taste buds so I chose four dishes from the grazing menu, small sausages which were quite tasty, Greek feta salad, meatballs of which the sauce tasted insipid and chicken and chorizo skewers. I can only assume that the main ingredients were warmed from a previous cooking. Both the chorizo and chicken were very dry and tasteless. In answer to the obvious question, did we raise with the waiter/waitress,?, no as we have learnt that CONSTRUCTIVE comments are not taken seriously by the waiting staff. For this experience we paid approx £60.00 including drinks. As a direct comparison as reviewed on ourTRIP ADVISOR account we have recently paid the same amount for sublime food and an unforgettable dining experience etc in York, what is the difference?

Ate at the riverside restaurant on a Sunday night, having only previously been in the hotel for drinks. The bar area is lovely, well decorated and welcoming so I was expecting good things from the restaurant. This was not the case. The table we were sat at was very sticky, and we had to wipe our cutlery with our napkins. The menu looked promising but under delivered.I had the avocado and prosciutto salad - £6 on the menu - served in a small ball - tiny bit of proscuitto on the top of a load of oil soaked leavesFor main I had the poached salmon salad - which was drenched (supposedly decorated) with mayo - nothing on the menu about mayo - and I didnt really want it but to be honest it was the only thing on the dish that tasted of anything - very very bland , the tiny bits of apple looked like offcuts from something else. A dish I would expect from a cafe - certainly not a hotel of this level. The waiter seemed very stressed despite the restaurant not being full - and we heard him moaning as he walked in the kitchen.Didnt help either that our table was near the entrance to the ladies loo!In all for three of us the bill came to £65 - very much overpriced for the quality of what we had.

What I ordered: Appetizer: Avocado and prosciutto salad, spinach, pine nut, lemon and coriander dressingDinner: Chicken fillet, filled with mozzarella and wrapped in prosciutto, potato gratin, ratatouilleDessert: Belgium chocolate pot with summer berry compôteThe Avocado and prosciutto salad was very disappointing. First the bowl, or should I say glass cup, was not appropriate to serve this. The dressing was way too much oil in relation to the lemon and coriander. The spinach was coated with the oil, and the lemon and coriander just slid off the leaves.Next the chicken dish. The chicken itself was cooked perfectly and was tender, and very moist. However, the ratatouille was mushy and overcooked. The potato gratin was good, but you would think that whoever plated this dish was serving it to 4 people. Way too much potato on the plate. The dessert of the Belgium chocolate pot and summer berries was really very good, except it was not big enough. Price: 21BP for just my dinner, my partner's brought the total to about 40BP

Ate in both the Courtyard Bar and Riverside Restaurant during our stay at the White Hart. Food quality good. Beer sold is Tom Wood's and Batemans, both local ales so top marks there. Waiting staff very helpful. Courtyard Bar is full of sofas and has a very pleasant ambience. With boston being devoid of that many good pubs, this is well worth a try.

The worst I've had for many years. Went for a quick lunch. Ordered bacon and chicken ciabatta and a toasted cheese sandwich.Ciabatta: hot, bacon re-heated, chicken bought in cooked chicken, probably previously frozen. Very dry. Contained brown iceberg lettuce - is this a new variety???Toasted cheese sandwich: stone cold. Sent back to be heated. Came back warm, then when cut into it turned out to be cheese, ham and tomato - although I clearly asked for 'cheese, no ham' (even the lady on the next table confirmed this). Not exactly vegetarian!!!Sent back. Came out as a toasted cheese sandwich, lukewarm.Went to pay (£17.25 for 2 inferior sandwiches, 1 flat lemonade and a weak lime and soda).Man-in-suit asked 'was everything ok for you madam?'. No, not at all, I replied.Explained about the toasted sandwich, my colleague said that he didn't think it was asking too much to serve sandwiches without brown lettuce in them, and that at £8 it should have had fresh chicken and freshly cooked bacon.'Sorry' said the suit. Nothing else. No offer to ensure it didn't happen again, no coming round the counter to talk, not even a discount or the offer of a coffee. In all the years of using Best Western Hotels all over the Midlands, this is the first complaint I've made.It will be my last.

The restaurant is in an open area with lots of choices for seating and a pleasant atmosphere. The menu was varied and wide selection of good quality food nicely presented. The day of our visit was a slack day with customers a bit thin on the ground, the staff were friendly but things moved a little to slow for my likening. Drinks from the bar were expensive and made the overall bill seem high.

There's 3 chaps including myself that dine out and this is our new favourite place. The haddock is a generous portion, the chips are freshly cooked and a good plate full. Not keen on the curry but that's just my taste buds. Gravy is nice and we will be using again very soon. Lovely staff and the cleanliness of the establishment are worth a mention also. Any visitors to Boston for fresh fish and chips should visit here

We haven't been here for years but decided to try it again after our usual diner was closed and we were pleasantly surprised. Same friendly family service and same competitive pricing as we remembered. I had the eggs Benedict and they were nearly perfect, eggs not quite runny enough but the quantity, quality and pricing were right. My partner had a toasted tea cake and we both had drinks, mine a cappuccino and my partners a pot of tea for one that actually provided sufficient for three. We will be back again in the near future.

Went this evening 10th June 23, we have friends coming over next week and was looking for places to visit with them. What an absolute s**t hole The beer tasted like vinegar, children in the bar, no evidence of food being served. The place was utterly filthy cobwebs stained brown they were that old. We should have taken heed before we went in, we commented on all the dead hanging baskets. Didn’t finish our drinks, husband left his because it was so bad. Avoid at all costs, I don’t understand why so many good reviews it’s awful, in fairness we didn’t sample the food. Woman behind the bar was pleasant enough.
