Really, really good fish and chips! Hot, not greasy and nice and crispy. I was a bit worried having read some of the reviews since it changed hands, and it didn’t look anything special on entering, but they cooked the fish to order (always a good sign) and you don’t mind waiting when it’s this good!

Worst battered fish that I have had in ages for a takeaway. Tiny fish and overcooked.. Chips were good. . This place used to be great but now gone poor. Avoid or be disappointed

This used to be the best chip shop in town but it changed hands, soggiest greases fish, chips tasted like the were heated up left overs from lunch, they all had a horrible smell. Won't ever be going back.

being a ex trucker i have had many chip shop meals and after googling for a open chippy i came across country fair and i was pleasantly surprised there friendly well presented and its the best fish and chips i have had in years i would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a nice piece of cod and great chips good luck to them i will be back ty for a great dinner

I havent been to this fish and chip shop for 2 years since they have changed ownership, The owners were chatting in their own language to each other while the food was in their hands, they don't wear hair nets, the chip oil also smells, the sausage and batter was covered in hairs, they didnt want me to get a refund and they kept on saying do you want a fresh one instead, also when I mentioned it infront of the customer they shushed me, how disrespectful, they also gave me evil stares. DONT VISIT THIS FISH AND CHIP SHOP!!!!

Not been here for a little while even though it as changed ownership. I had haddock and chips, the chips were fresh crisp on the outside and fluffy in the middle. Nice tasting fish with a lovely crisp batter.

If I could have given this review 0 I would have. The food was disgusting, there is no other word for it. The quality was so poor, the battered sausages were soft and soggy, the chips tasted of old oil and we have both ended up with severely upset tummy’s within half an hour of eating the food. We have been going to County Fayre for many many years and I can’t believe these new owners have destroyed the reputation that had been built up. We will NEVER go back.

We have been customers of this fish and chip shop for years and it's never disappointed. I did not know it had changed ownership until I tasted my meal tonight; the difference was immediately apparent! The fish batter was slimey inside, the fish sparse and lacking its usual fresh taste. The chips had a nasty after taste that I had never experienced from this shop in all our years of custom. I am so upset that the previous owners hard won reputation has been squandered in this way. Sadly, I will now have to take my custom elsewhere.

I visited tonight my first time since new owners , I was not very impressed with the chips or the sausage in batter .The chips tasted like they had been reheated making them harder to eat (tough ) ,the sausage was not as nice as I am used to .I still miss the cheery HELLO from the old owner .

Chips were potatoes cut into four pieces more like fried roasted potatoes fish batter was not their usual standard bones in fish never had fish with bones from their before wont go back again been customer for a long time John

As well as excellent food cooked by Andy and the team the shop is spotlessly clean, our pre order is always ready on time and served with a smile they remember our names so that makes for excellent customer service and they all like to have a bit of banter, hardly found these days would highly recommend, we collect take away for elderly parents who also enjoy the pensioners fish and chips available only at lunch time. It is not a dine in establishment

Usually a regular before football matches I went back today for the first time since March and was greeted like a long lost friend. The welcome is always friendly and the fish and chips the best anywhere. Huge portions and always delicious

Have been using county fayre for the last 15 years, there quality has not fallen, tried other shops that the family use but not up to county fayre standard. Well worth the drive.

Always been excellent. Got a chippy 2 mins walk away but always drive the 10 mins to this one. Cant rate it enough. Lovely people..

As a regular visitor over the years, this is by far the best chippy in Swindon. Food is always freshly cooked, prices are excellent and nothing is too much trouble.

There are at least three chip shops closer to our home that County Fayre but I’d rather go out of our way to get tasty, freshly prepared food. It’s genuinely the best chip shop I’ve visited! We also love the guy behind the counter. All of the staff are lovely but him in particular (think he’s the owner!) is extra special and definitely adds to the reason we return and recommend to everyone

Went to this chippy years ago when living in town ...Moved to west swindon for a few years and used chip shops over there ..Not a patch on York road !! Moved back over this way and rediscovered again...... Never fails to disappoint.... Will be our regular chippy again from now on

I had a shipping order of 12 portions, “no problem” & with 4 staff behind the counter it didn’t take long. Result? 12 happy people at a party a few minutes later. I did enquire about the biggest order given to this place, “150 actually!”, pity the next person in the queue! In all fairness I bet nobody was held up ( a bit of forward planning no doubt)

we went to the 'best fish and chips in harrogate' over the summer and they weren't a patch on york road - consistently great fish and chips. recommend to buy separate fish and separate chips keeps fish crispy. the curry sauce is also great.

I rang ahead for 2 pieces of Haddock to be put in the fryer for my arrival in 10 minutes,the fish was ready when I got there, very good fish & chips....always!....the staff are friendly, fast & efficient, a good experience, & usually very busy, oil is changed regularly,you can tell by the batter & chip quality. I can recommend as I’m a taxi driver in this town,& easily the best Chippy by far!

This is a nice place to get dinner, with good and quick service. They aren’t the biggest portions in the area but they are good and fish we had this week was excellent.

People travel mile to have Andy’s fish & chips, good quality & plenty of it, sometimes you may to queue but it is worth it.

This is our regular Friday night for fish and chips , always a cheery "Hello " from the owner .The food is always hot and fresh and good sized portions ,good selection of food .

We regularly get our fish and chips from here as they are great quality. This time was a little bit annoying though as both bits of fish were smaller than we'd expect and the chips were even a slightly smaller portion.

Fish & Chips came to mind one evening and lure of the great chippy was too much. Nothing had changed, same staff, same big queue, same great food being cooked to order. Its a must do if you want decent fish and chips.

They are always busy, locals, people from all over the town, companies & if my memory serves me correctly some of the emergency services from around the area. Why? Quality, freshness, friendly staff..it all works, no fuss, nothing special , just good old fish & chips.Thanks Andy & everybody who works there.

I have been using this Fish & Chip shop for many years but the last few times each time I have ordered a Chicken & Mushroom pie it has been terrible. The last one was completely dry on the inside as it had been reheated a number of times. I just hope it was a few bad weeks they have had !!

For a chippy to thrive in the back streets of Swindon, it has to be good. Word of mouth took us here initially and now its become the place to go, its not particularly convenient for us but its worth the drive.Slick service, (which it needs as there is normally a queue), friendly efficient staff make for a great start, this is backed up with freshly cooked food and very good prices.There is no coincidence that they queue outside the door and there are vehicles parked all over the place, this is attracting people from not just the locality.We will be returning for sure.

Have had fish & chips from here many times with no problems. Last time however the chips were soggy and the fish was so soggy that all the batter fell off. As I did not have vinegar it must be to do with the temperature of oil. I will try again in the future to hopefully see that this time was just a bad blip.

This small family chip shop does the best fish and chips in Swindon. Lunchtime special OAP portion and price. Used by a lot of local businesses and Care homes.

We were craving fish n' chips and noticed online that the location at 46 York Road was meant to be one of Swindon's better chippies! Well, it certainly didn't disappoint - both the fish and the chips were enormous portions and the quality was excellent. Two small observations: The batter was inconsistent between the two portions. One of the pieces of fish was better covered than the other (although it didn't really take away the enjoyment) and there wasn't enough salt and vinegar added (something I didn't realise until after we were eating the meal in our hotel room). But all round, very good.

We had the best fish and chips from here on Monday night (August Bank Holiday). They were the best we've had from here I think. Very tasty, lovely batter and great chips.Good value and worth travelling a little bit further into town to get them.There's space for a few cars in the limited time visitors bit of the residents parking so there's no need to just land on the double-yellow lines right outside.

Our family have been going to County Fayre for nearly 30 years. We have always been happy with the friendly service and standards. The food is excellent, freshly cooked, wide variety and very tasty. We go here pretty much monthly for our fish n chips take out. Always fresh and fish cooked to order. Chips are proper chip shop style, nice and chunky. Never a bad meal!

Easily the best fish and chip shop in Swindon. I have been going to County Fayre since I was a little boy and still making the 4 mile trip there now at 25! The chips are chunky the fish is huge and everything is fresh and great value!My top tip is to always order the curry sauce! In my eyes having a 'York Road' without ordering curry sauce is like having a pizza without cheese!
