Staff was rude when they got our order wrong and then correct it after a bit of telling them but the was going to refuse and service that day was not good. Was over charged with a coffee and cake we didnt have as an extra 7 pounds , Other times been good. Food nice.

Lovely setting, nice and clean and tidy, very well presented sandwich lunches, cups of tea and coffee were brought to table short while before sandwiches so it didn’t go cold. Nice sized mugs of tea with teabag. Generous amount of milk for each cup. Assistant was very friendly, welcoming and helpful. First time I’ve brought my mum and dad here for food and we were very impressed.

…as the staff certainly won’t be. Had to wait in the queue whilst the person serving attempted to serve ice cream which was frozen solid. Didn’t seem to occur to the numerous staff wandering around, including what appeared to be the supervisor/ manager to maybe have someone else also serving. The snacks and drinks were okay but can’t say they were worth the wait. We are local and visited before but won’t any more

Not the best place in the world you’d be better of buying a pasty and being down with the place. The only thing going for it is that it’s the cheapest place around.

This was the first time I had visited and we did so on the premise that we would rather have a freshly prepared meal, using wholesome farm produce rather than the usual fare at a garden centre. This turned out to be a mistake as Countrymans Choice restaurant was the only part of the Farm Shop that appeared to be open. Frankly, I began wondering whether the place was closing down as the restaurant had no proper heating, the eating area had the appearance of a hastily finished back room cafe with skirting boards missing and a general lack of maintenance evident. Staff were young and disinterested and the food was passable at best (my steak pastie was bordering on burned on the bottom). Very much doubt that we will be making a return visit.

Upon entering the cafe, initial impressions are of a quite spartan and sterile room in magnolia. The loos are quite grubby, with ingrained dirt on the outside of the doors and could do with a good deep clean; they're quite smelly! The service was adequate, although could have been friendlier and more helpful. The food was underwhelming and a 3/10 for an English breakfast. My fault, I should have read the menu,, no beans, no mushrooms, no hash brown etc. Odd tasting bangers, loads of burnt toast though! At just under a tenner,, poor value for money compared to lots of places locally.

You would think this place would have good produce being right next to a farm shop....we had a chicken wrap and the chicken was like cheap iceland minced chicken and when im paying 9 pound for a wrap I expect chicken breast at least, my mum had ham egg and chips and again the ham you would expect to be decent ham for 9 pound and it was wafer thin again awful....when we ordered we should of turned and walked away as there were 4 teenagers behind the counter chatting and we got ignored for ages! If you want to serve cheap rubbish that's fine but prices should reflect this...

Called in for lunch with three friends. We had been visiting Buckfast Abbey but as only pies and pasties on the menu there, we decided to come to this café. Three of us had scampi which was excellent, the other had egg and chips-eggs done just right. The café is well set up for Covid and the tables were cleared and cleaned shortly after they were vacated. It was busy when we arrived we had a little while to wait but it was worth the wait. Staff were efficient and helpful. We will visit again..

Called in on spec whilst in area on holiday. Very close to A38. It was fairly quiet on the day but I imagine it gets very busy with the childrens playground and the animals - chickn, large pigs and at least one llama. We opted for roast pepper and feta puff pastry slice and a three bean chilli - both were very good. Sevice was great and, all in all, good value.

My husband and I decided to visit for a tea and a sandwich . We were seated to our table, which was filthy - Not a good start. Had to ask for it to be cleaned. Still went ahead and ordered a cup of tea each and a sandwich. The waitress brought our drinks on a very dirty tray, she held the rim of each mug as she placed them on the table. We were not impressed with this, I had some wet wipes with me so we wiped the mugs, so that we could have a go at drinking the tea (albeit a bit of bitter now!). Our sandwich subsequently arrived, by which time, we were both put off by the entire process and left. During these times, I would have thought hygiene would be of paramount importance, clearly not here - Will not be visiting again.

Normally a good choice for breakfast but things seem to be going down hill fast.Cold weak coffee no matter what coffee ordered it is all served as a weak latte!Breakfast sausages have been changed to a micro Chipolata. Granary toast is in fact wholemeal (not good on the grounds of allergy awareness) The scones have halved in size. All in all standards and quality have slipped here, the young front of house staff seems unhappy and feed up with the Managment offering no flexibility in choice!

Been here for last couple of weeks with children and friends and their children, the play park is great keeps the little ones entertained for ages especially with the animals there to see. The food is nice and there is a great choice well priced. A couple of really important points let it down:- Dog poo left by one of the kids playhouses outside despite there being a sign to say no dogs to be let in this isn't checked so my friend kindly picked it up to allow our children and other children to play inside the playhouse. Secondly there are no umbrellas for the tables outside and there isn't any shade whatsoever which is a shame. It's so nice sitting outside watching the kids play and enjoying the food and drink but feel that umbrellas need to be purchased to allow families the opportunity for shade or not. We did as the staff but they said there weren't any but the lovely guy who owns the farm shop on site but not linked to the cafe kindly lent us one of his from his table which was a god send in the blazing sun. If these things were done I would have given it a glowing review.

It can often be very busy, but can be relied on for excellent coffee, lovely cake and a relaxing lunch. My kids especially like the waffles with golden syrup, I’m addicted to the chocolate brownies (to the point where I’ll buy a whole tray occasionally to take into work) and if you’re having lunch I can highly recommend the egg and bacon salad (with morwelham dressing).Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area and a vast improvement on Endsleigh!

I visited here on a Friday afternoon, around 4 pm, with my nieces and daughter, mainly to show them the chickens and the play area. We ordered hot chocolates and coffee, only to be told they weren't serving anymore, which was very disappointing. I ended up grabbing a takeaway coffee and looking at dirty un cleared tables while the children played. My family arranged to meet up there this morning, there was about 12 of us, we all ordered several drinks and meals. Most of them were fine but we needed extra maple syrup, which we would happily pay for, only to be told that the chef gets funny about extra sauce or changing orders ....!!!??? Now I am a waitress, in a busy pub, in Ivybridge, where service is EVERYTHING, what a real shame that again I was let down with the lack of interest from the staff, that to be fair are quite young, and strange message about the chef getting funny.A lovely café in great surroundings, with nice play area. Also a brilliant chicken shop that has really friendly staff that were wonderful with my nieces and daughter.Dear Chef, get funny about dirty tables, untrained staff and loss of business.

The one problem with that is the only door that links the outside to the cafe is a silly door with a bar for opening on the inside but no way of opening from the outside... slightly frustrating! The food is ok, reasonably priced. The staff are friendly. The play area for the children is great though could do with some TLC.

We hadn't been here for several months until today, and don't think we will be back for sometime! When we walked in their were about 3 tables free, except none of them had been cleared, so we found the tidiest table, and as a waitress passed I asked if she would mind clearing the table to which she quite rudely said in a minute, then proceeded to grab the plates. She never returned to wipe the table, and the other tables were not cleared either. The menu has not changed in about 3 years, they are getting very dog eared now, and maybe if these menus are to stay the same, perhaps a few specials could be added. It's a shame that with a lovely farm shop full of fresh fruit and veg on the premises, that their is very little evidense of such on the menu, just a tardy bit of salad garnish. The whole place beeds a good clean up and descent menu!

We visited here after going to Endsleigh Garden Centre thinking that it would be a nice alternative to their cafe. The cafe is located in the farm shop. The table we sat at was dirty and sticky, and there was food scattered all on the floor on the empty table opposite us. There was bird pooh all down one window which looks out over the gardens, so anyone looking outside would have no choice but to look at the bird pooh - really not nice. It was not busy in the cafe and there seemed to be plenty of staff so I don't know why they weren't tidying up and giving it a clean around? Although to be honest it looks like it needs a proper deep clean. The staff were friendly and helpful, and we ordered tea and a scone which was perfectly nice (although the cup was dirty so we had to ask for another one which they obliged immediately). We used the toilet before leaving which is located in the farmshop and this was not particularly clean either. Not good enough.

I decided to pop in for something to eat, first impression walking through the shop was wow... high class and different foods and the home made looked wonderful. Into the kitchen and couldn't sit at many of the empty tables because they weren't cleared and were dirty ! I decided to sit down at a table that was empty but dirty and had not clearly been wiped. 2 young people were busy chatting behind the counter without any attempt to greet me. The coffee I ordered was of the highest quality and I toon a chance, cause of the reviews to try the food... the best hash, loved it. An older lady came out and started to clear the tables moving everything on the table, the young people just wiped around and even left cleaning materials lying on one of the tables. would I go there again ? I would have to be very blunt with the staff about the lack of hygiene, I didn't even have a napkin ! But.... the food was worth every penny, so put the youngsters on a basic hygiene course with customer service and this place could easily be 5star !

Went for breakfast/brunch. Pleasant if, inexperienced, staff but the food came in reasonable time. If you've had bacon, waffles and maple syrup in the US you may find it disappointing here. Not good quality syrup and bacon is too thick and gammon like. But! It was perfectly acceptable and if you go for a full English - it's fine. Good sausages. Not cheap at £20 for two breakfasts and two drinks but we would go again.I'd recommend going earlier - by 1100 on a Sunday it was busy and really noisy. The coffee machine makes a lot of noise and chairs scrape over the stone floors. With 20 people in there don't expect to be able to have a conversation!

Considering the food was cooked from fresh we did not have to wait long. For the younger customers there are climbing frames etc some Alpacas and chickens/ducks to keep them entertained. Would I recomemend this cafe to friends? Without hesitation it is a big YES. Will be back again but this time to try out the lovely looking home made cakes.

It has an easy going well conducted no nonsense feel with a homely menu. The two threads ought to be consolidated or Countryman's Choice Restaurant deleted because it is otiose and a bit misleading which is why I've scored it two. As My Kitchen it deserves better.

Awesome. Don’t judge a book by its cover. I arrived late evening for work over a couple of days. The staff couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful from getting me a taxi late evening at the train station to helping me get to my work venue in the morning. I had arrived past restaurant hours but the staff were more than happy to prepare food if I had wanted. I was also given a local delicacy from a local. I’m normally a poor sleeper but slept so well. Whilst the rooms at first appearance look a little dated the bed is so so comfy. The room also spotlessly clean. The question is - what’s more important to you - a great nights sleep or a sterile environment with mod cons? Sadly the first morning I didn’t have chance to sample the breakfast- I didn’t have time to wait. They have a sign saying ‘We don’t serve fast food. We serve fresh food as fast as we can”. Suffice to say I ordered my breakfast for the following morning before I went to bed so it was ready for me when I needed it. Now for the highlight DINNER. I eat a lot and this is definitely one of the best meals I had in a long time. Not the usual processed pub food. The main(stuffed chicken with root veg and dauphinois potatoes was delicious. I never order dessert but felt I had to - the main was so good. The sticky toffee pudding did not disappoint. Overall a really great stay. Thanks so much

Strange but quaint place to get to. Be prepared for a staircase, a handrail on both sides, and you'll need it to, to climb upstairs. Once upstairs, we were approached by a smiling member of staff, who said, "Sit where you like." The floor slopes, but once seated, it seems you forget. We all had Devon cream & jam scone with a cup of coffee each. Wow, the scone freshly made earlier, was warm. It just melted in your mouth. Once you got the jam & cream on, or is it cream & jam. My aunt & I had a latte & my husband & uncle had a cappuccino. Stand carefully for the loo, you may fall. There is only one unisex toilet. We paid and left. Back down the staircase again....the restaurant is above a shop, which is situated by the museum. Not for disabled people..though I made it with my walking stick. No car parking.

I booked 2 nights for friends online, i had some simple questions about parking and accessibility but couldn't get hold of anyone to answer my questions so i cancelled. I cancelled nearly 1 month before the cut off for a full 100% refund ( clearly stated in their contract when booking) . I then spent nearly 2 months calling, emailing, leaving voicemails to get my money back - they ignored every one. In the end I had to claim the money back via my bank. If my bank hadnt stepped in and help, this establishment would have stolen over £400 from me. I am writing to hopefully sway others and stop them doing the same to others
