Arrived at 12:45. Told no soup left so the soup is obviously not made daily. I’m sure nobody is eating soup for breakfast so working on the assumption that lunch starts around 12, they’re either not making enough or they’re using leftovers. Ridiculously slow service. Waited 45 minutes for 2 overpriced sandwiches. Slice of cake £3.75, wafer thin. Staff surly and unwelcoming. Not a good place to eat at all.

There was a 40 minute wait for food when we arrived at 2.45. Wish we hadn’t bothered as it was absolutely awful. Dried up chips, cold peas and a shrivelled up rag pudding along with a bacon barm on which the bacon was rock hard , greasy and cold and yet the plate was red hot? The poor girl on the till was running herself ragged whilst others sauntered about. The tables were full of half eaten plates of food. The people that we could see cooking were all really young and looked very disinterested. Whilst in the queue someone from the kitchen pushed a burger through the hatch and this fell through into the cutlery. It was just put back onto the hatch. Im just glad it wasnt mine. We waited 45 minutes and watched food just stood under the hot lamps sometimes for 8 minutes. When we got downstairs i waited for my friend to come out of the toilet and the two women on the till were stood slagging off a colleague in the DIY area very badly calling them lazy. Really not nice is it? What an awful experience and not sure who is in charge of cooking but this place has gone massively downhill and we definitely wont be coming back Im afraid.

I can barely think where to start with this car crash of a café. Perhaps I will start with the good points as there are so few: the waiter who handed us our food was very polite and the amount of staff working front of house kept the queues at the till to a minimum. Also the door out of the building worked fine enabling us to put as much distance as possible from this nightmare. Now for the not so great stuff: first of all the door to the building worked fine allowing anyone to go inside and suffer this hell. Secondly, the staff member at the till taking our order seriously appeared as if she would prefer death to serving customers. Thirdly, we took our drinks and sat down only to have to listen to the locals on one side shouting to their elderly Mother about her incontinence and need for a commode and from the other side someone discussing local dogging spots. This disturbed us so much we moved and sat across the room. Fourth, the food to absolutely ages to arrive. Seriously, we order cheese on toast. That was all and I’d guess that took them 30-40 minutes to prepare! Fifth, the food was sub-par at best. Sixth, the disabled toilet had urine on the seat and floor and had not been cleaned. It is hard to imagine how a place could screw things up much more and still be in business. The pricing and the food was ok I guess but nothing special. I would literally eat anywhere but this place given the choice to do so again. Even not eating at all and just starving whilst throwing the cash down the drain right outside would be preferable and produce a better net result. If I could give this place a zero I would seriously do it and even that would be far too generous.

Visiting the area we found this little gem of a restaurant across the road from the Gordon Rigg garden centre. Access via stairs or a lift. We went there for lunch (3 of us), Good selection of meals to choose from. The service was quick and the meals we chose were delicious. Friendly staff who were able to answer any queries we had. Well worth the visit. Will certainly go again the next time I'm in the area. Thank you and well done to all the staff. They made our visit a pleasure.

There was a small queue waiting to be served when we arrived. I ordered two meals and drinks. We sat having our drinks watching other customers going to complain about the length of time they waited for their meals. After 3/4 of an hour I asked a waitress hoe much longer our meals would be . She returned saying not long 2-3 minutes. Then she returned apologising saying our order for the jacket potato hadn't been started , she asked if I would like a refund for the jacket or everything. I went to the counter and got a refund for everything but no apology from the person giving the refund. In fact they didn't even look at me!!! No customer service. I will not be returning !!

This cafe has been completely ruined since the days of the ploughman’s and sandwiches freshly made and the selection of cakes. Now, like most places, it’s all about making money and nothing about satisfied customers. An hour wait for cheese on toast and crumpets. The two stars I gave for the review are for the drinks we were given by way of apology for the wait, although we had bought more drinks during the hour. The food was fine when it arrived (but you can’t go too far wrong with toast and crumpets) but an hour waiting time with no warning is not acceptable so I would recommend to avoid unless you’ve got all day and you’re not that hungry.

Our first time and sadly our last. Very slow service in both the queue to order our food and then a 50 minute wait to receive our food. This wasn’t a big or complicated order , it was a breakfast and a scampi. Breakfast quality and quantity was perfectly acceptable but the scampi came without the peas ( ordered) and subsequently had to go back by which time the scampi was cold . What was also quite peculiar and unnecessary was being asked what condiments we wanted after the food was delivered. The waitress then had to go back to the kitchen to bring us a few tiny sachets of salt , pepper and vinegar. So much waste of paper, time and energy. Why not have salt and pepper pots on the table that can be renewed? Lots of people were waiting , having already paid for the food upfront it’s then difficult to vote with your feet , and leave . Lots of tables , plenty of customers but clearly not enough staff , or experienced staff . (Although pleasant enough) Not a pleasurable experience.

Terrible service and disgusting food. We’ve been here on quite a few occasions and the was good in garden centre. However we visited today to be told the Gordon Rigg breakfast is only available at the Cotton Weavers Cafe. We were told that this because the garden centre cafe is now going to be more of a ‘tea room’ so the breakfast has been removed from the menu in the garden centre cafe. Not sure about the logic of this. Anyway so we left and popped across to the road to the weavers cafe. The service was incredibly slow and the food was disgusting.

Either reduce the menu, hire more staff, have waitress service so can stagger tables or reduce number of tables. Please sort it out as it’s such a lovely spot.

Went with my parents today and ordered a small breakfast, a cheese on toast and a buttered toasted tea cake. Placed the order at 12.32pm (checked with the receipt) and finally got it delivered to the table at 1.25pm - a total time of 53 minutes. The food is good but the service is shocking - will not be going again. Not just us as customers on other tables were asking where their food was. Have used the cafe half a dozen times and has slowly got worse - today was the final straw! Come on, sort yourselves out - surely there must be something you can do to improve on this atrocious service!

The food was excellent even though a little pricey but we didn't mind paying for the quality. Staff are very knowledgeable and helpful, the waits are a little longer than we would have liked but then again we are in a pandemic and the staff are supplying quality food in a difficult situation. The moaners who complain about the wait times, questions and process to get there food need to remember one thing COVID, hence all the extra steps. So chrissyob1967 please bear that in mind I mean slating a business for putting people's safety over filling your belly fast is ludicrous, get a grip of yourself. We will definitely be eating here again its a better family feel that the one in the garden centre who just rush you in and out and to be quite Frank sell food that would be more at home in a restaurant, people don't want that in a garden centre I really don't know who decides on the menu but if it isn't Gordon ramsay I'd sack him, totally out priced food not fit for the environment it's served in or the target clientele.

I have to be honest, I like shopping at Gordon Riggs with the family, but as far as eating in the cafe again, that won't happen. We sat at a table, a family of four whilst I approached the counter for 4 carveries. With an ever growing line of people behind me, getting increasingly impatient, I was asked a list of questions for each individual carvery, about each individuals personal preference for meat, veg, sauces, trimmings and gravy etc. This took around 5 mins, as the background noise and music was so loud that i couldn't even hear the server speak at times. Without having each individual with me at the counter, how can I fine tune their individual meals? what happened to going to the carvery counter and choosing your options as you are served your meat? When the order was delivered too the table, every individual meal was wrong in some way. We asked for 1 of them with a significant omission (the meat!!) to be rectified. At the point of ordering the meals, we were also given tickets for our puddings. We were not told what the puddings were, so assumed not would be a selection at the Carvery counter to choose from. When we approached in order to select our puddings, we were told it was Apple Crumble and custard only, with no alternatives. 2 of our party do not eat Apple Crumble, so these meals went to waste. I mentioned this to a member of staff, who appeared embarrassed, but was equally as dismissive. Incidentally, the puddings arrived without anything to eat them with, and each individual in my party left the Cauliflower Cheese as it was barely edible. Upon entry to the cafe via the store downstairs, I was informed it was a Cash Only cafe, so i had to walk back to the car, and find a cash point. Once i rejoined my family inside and placed my order, i was then surprised to see that they offered me the contactless payment facility!! it was literally -3 degrees outside and i had been driving about looking for a cash point!! An awful overall experience

With 3 young grandchildren who we look after 5 out of 7 days the cafe and garden centre is great in all weathers. Whilst we spend a fortune out of my pension on kids meals, coffees and cake - we visit at least once a week, and also heavily stock our garden with usually lovely planting (although the azalea and pot we bought couple of days ago I'm really sad about as every bloom has dropped off the azalea already). One of grandchildren also gets a weekly toy treat which are a little overpriced although the mill shop little better for some pocket money treats. That being said we spend a lot of money here over the year. It upsets me therefore that the quality of the food in mill shop cafe is hit and miss. Yesterday kids beans and toast left by the grand daughter we had with us as yak her one slice of toast was burnt and black. I had a bite to show her it was ok but yak it was also cold and had the cheapest flight scraping of 'butter' in middle. Beans cold and undercooked? At £1.99 it's not cheap for one slice of toast and a small scoop of beans. However when they get it right and kids eat it I don't mind (oh kids menu on website out of date when I looked last). Didn't want to make a fuss as I say we find it a great place to take grandchildren (better when they have sandpit though!)

Feel bad writing a negative review about this place as, as a whole it’s a fantastic place to visit and it’s an institution. However! The food is just abysmal nowadays. The prices are ridiculous, Multiple peoples complain and say the prices are unreasonable for a cafe that is best described as average. Some really nice girls there as well as some obviously not trained. Way too many members of staff considering the wait times. I ordered a “Steak Canadian” which is traditionally steak, cheese, mushrooms and green peppers. I got an burnt onion sandwich with a dry bit of meat. My partner got rag pudding, chips and gravy which he did enjoy. The cakes and the coffee is good however always out of scones. Will be going the new tea room across the road from now on.

The menu and price range was well over the top and all the knives and forks on the side were to our liking were shall we say ( dirty) or could do with replacing. Don’t like sending reviews like this but if it helps management to look at things then why not. Also when we looked at our receipt we had been over charged by almost £2. The Cotton Weavers has an excellent choice of food. Order at counter, select own cutlery and brought to table-sandwiches, toasties, breakfast served all day, jackets, main meals, specials, homemade cakes, and kids menu. Only issue is long wait times for food during busy periods, but not told this when order food-they seem to do everything in order so even if order soup or toasted teacake it can take as long as main meal. Having visited Gordon Riggs in Rochdale and been pleasantly surprised all be it the play area could do with a good clean but safe and lots of suitable toys to entertain grand daughters whilst enjoy coffee and cake, the sister cafe in Todmorden leaves a lot to be desired! Play area unsuitable and misnomer! No toys other than two broken grubby plastic toys and unsuitable as no soft playarea let alone any play area 3 wooden tables and chairs took up most of space and a grubby wooden shelving unit at head banging height?! Had quick coffee and left very disappointed - grand daughter more so I would say as nil safe space to play in!

The café is part of Gordon Riggs Garden Centre which is across the road. The café is upstairs in an old mill, there is a small lift if you cannot get up stairs, but it is only suitable for a pushchair and 2 adults.

Drove a long way to the Garden Center that owns this cafe so needed refreshment before the trip home. The staff were friendly and always on the go but there weren't enough of them as tables weren't being cleared. The coffee (from a machine) was very bitter and the £2.50 Cherry Bakewell slice was INEDIBLE.The only thing it tasted of was uncooked flour. Don't waste your money.

Been to this cafe on several occasions and the food is always top notch even if expensive. My wife and myself popped in for dinner on tuesday 5th september at around 1230 and it was very busy, we decided to go accross to the garden centre and come back later to see if it had quietened down.We returned to the cafe at around 2 oclock and it was much less busy, we chose a table sat down and looked over the menu. I went up to the till to order the food and was the only person waiting, there were two lasses behind the counter, one was busy cleaning the coffee machine and the one who was closest the till was busy talking through the serving hatch, i patiently waited there for over a minute whilst listening to her harp on after id made several attempts to get noticed by coughing but she seemed too busy to notice, I was about to give up when the girl cleaning eventually noticed me she then came and served me. I sat down and my wife remarked how long id been waiting. Our food came relatively quickly and the same lass who was too busy talking behind the till brought our food over, I mentioned to the girl that i had been waiting at the counter and she didnt notice meand I was about to leave and she just stared straight at me and shrugged her shoulders, turned around and walked off. The food was very nice, but for the price you pay to eat there id expect the staff to at least be willing to take your order and at least show some manners.

We met our daughter here today at 1300 for lunch. We found a table, chose what we wanted and went to order. They didn't have any of my first three choices of food, nor the first two choices of my daughter. While we relooked at options we ordered 2 teas and a coffee to be told they had no coffee. At this point we decided to go else where.

Great to nip in after visiting the garden centre across the road, avoid weekends if you can. Situated on the first floor above mill shop although a lift is available. Good selection of food I had home made pea & ham soup which was lovely but very thick , my grandsons had toasters which they enjoyed. Prices are average for a cafe but good sized portions

Called on a Thursday with my wife, after visiting the garden Centre across the road.Because it was a cold day we decided to have something warm to eat.We ordered two small breakfasts, and a hot drink each while we waited for our food. The cafe was fairly busy, but as it was 11.30am we thought we would be ahead of the lunchtime rush. Boy were we wrong! We had our drinks, while we waited for our food, and we waited and we waited.I was just on my way to find out what the problem was when after 35 mins the food eventually arrived. Dried up bacon, very very well done sausages, so not freshly cooked, but been sat under a hot lamp.We were sat next to the window overlooking the small car park, and watched as people came, parked in the spaces (designated for Gordon Riggs customers) and then walked to the Pub next door where they serve two meals for £8. Who were the smarter people. (Not us) but we will be next time.

Visited Coton Weavers a few times now when visiting Gordon Riggs garden centre. Food is well cooked and of good value. Each time found that service has been quick and the staff have been friendly. Lunch times are busy but always found a table and also found that service and food never compromised no matter how busy they are. For families there is a small play area for young children...a nice touch. Will definately keep on visiting when in the area.

I really enjoyed visiting the cotton weavers cafe, the staff were very polite and happy to help and the food was good. They isn't a massive variety of food but definitely enough to satisfy your taste at least. I would definitely recommend the cafe to couples as it's quite cute and a nice place to just have a chat and a bite to eat

Popped in for a quick lunch on our way to way over-priced and too far up itself Hebden Bridge - too often in too many places in that town we've had a £10/15 a head meal inflicted on us at prices way, way (way) north of that ... Sunday lunchtime the place was busy. Even so, it was spotlessly clean, the staff were pleasant and service was prompt. The food was freshly prepared - and the salad garnish/accompaniment was crisp and fresh. In a small group of friends the choices were varied - I enjoyed the 'Ginger Beer battered cod'. The batter was crisp and light and the fish was perfectly cooked.

Myself and a friend took my 2 children to the breakfast with santa event last Saturday. We had a brilliant time and the children were very excited to see Santa. The breakfast they got was fantastic and they were busy with the activities that were provided. All of the staff were very friendly and efficient and the presents that the children received were lovely too. Overall we had a very enjoyable morning!

My partner and I visited Gordon Riggs and decided to have a quick bite to eat at the Cafe across the way. Upon arriving at the cafe it was beautifully decorated with Christmas decorations and the place was semi-busy.My partner and I chose a table, )which had no menu on so we had to find a different table to take one from) and I proceeded to make the order at the Food Order point. We ordered two cold sandwiches, a portion of chips and a portion of sweet potato fries at 1:10pm. We received our food, finally, at 1:45pm. There was no apology about the delay or explanation, when waiting 35 mins for Sandwiches is quite ridiculous. When the food did arrive the bread that the sandwich came on was hard and definitely was not worth the £4.99 price tag that came with it, this was excluding the chips! These were extra. I will be visiting Gordon Riggs in the future, but most certainly will not be making the trip across the way for food again. Overpriced and Poor Service!

We visited with my wife's parents on a Sunday afternoon. The café is owned by Gordon Riggs Garden Centre and is based on the first floor over the Bottom Mill Shop which is on the opposite side of the road from the Garden Centre. The café was busy but we managed to find a table in the large dining area. One has to queue at the counter to order and pay for food and drink. The drinks are provided upon paying and then you are handed a number for your order. The queue was quite long and it took about ten minutes to get to the till point to order the food (1 x rag pudding with chips and mushy peas; 1 x cheese and onion pasty, chips and mushy peas, 2 x turkey sandwiches and one bowl of chips). The drinks order of two cappuccinos and two teas were served at the counter. The cutlery, sugar, milk and other condiments are on a separate table to be collected by the customer. There were no knives in the tray and we had to ask for some. These took 10 minutes to arrive. On looking around the café it was clear that there were a number of customers waiting for food and looking pretty disgruntled. It wasn't long before some people started to complain with one lady complaining that she had been waiting 45 minutes for a sausage barmcake. We realised that we were in for a long wait. Some 50 minutes after ordering and having had to order more drinks, we received our food. To be fair, my rag pudding was pretty good, and the my wife and mother in law considered their turkey sandwiches to be quite nice with carved turkey being used on the sandwiches. However, the cheese pasty was a shop bought affair which had been microwaved and so soggy and uninspiring. The chips were frozen chips and whilst freshly cooked were pretty bland in taste and texture. Ok, one can't expect gourmet food in such a place but it was pretty average and not particularly cheap at around £40.Next time we will drive down the road to the lovely cafe's of Hebden Bridge.

We visited this lovely café recently and was pleasantly surprised. The café is quite large, with lots of window seating. The menu has a lot of variety, from full breakfasts, wraps, pies and the best fish and chips I have ever tried! There are gluten free and vegetarian options too. There is a children's menu and play area and a lift for those of us with mobility issues. The staff are very friendly, with a good knowledge of the items on the menu. There is a large selection of cakes to try with hot or cold drinks. The prices for food and drinks is very reasonable, with the dearest item £7.25 for the gourmet pie of the day. Try the freshly battered fish, it is amazing. I asked about the batter mix and was told it is made with ginger beer. Which makes the batter very tasty and crispy. We will definitely be back again.

After going here for over 25 years never again. Poor customer service, prioritise the online orders and ignore face to face customers. 4 staff in the shop and was ignored by all bar 1. The service has been steadily going down hill and tonight was the last straw. Such a shame as I like to support small local businesses who need the support.

What a lovely set out pub! Walked in greeted with big smiles from a guy with black hair flicked over to the side (think he had a tea towel on his shoulder). Then when we was in and sat down we ordered through the app our drinks were delivered quick by the assistant manager Kayleigh which through out our visit made us feel welcome. I ordered the hunters chicken and my partner ordered mega mixed grill, food came piping hot and tasted amazing hats off to the chefs. When we was leaving the manager tom was stood near the end of the bar, what a lovely gent he is! Overall cant wait ti return for some more lovely food!
