Went here with my aunt, uncle and brother for pie night (currently Wednesdays). Pub itself is small and old school with interesting photos and curios on and around the walls. Very small outside area which would be pleasant enough in the summer. No car park as when it was built cars weren't a thing. Staff were very polite and friendly, always a bonus. Menu was very straightforward. One dish you could have as a starter or a main course and one dessert. Three pies and two other choices (total of six) for main, all mains £9. £9 for a main course in a pub in South Warwickshire. It's not a typo. We all had pie and the slices were BIG. And the filling was literally spilling out of them. The chips were cooked to perfection. Drinks wise there was a reasonable selection of ales and lagers (3/4 of each?) on draft as well as the normal selection of spirits. The place doesn't really look much at first when you walk in. However, it is an interesting place and you'll be served by nice people, you will end up with a full stomach, and your wallet will not be that much lighter.

We were recommended to visit the quaint country pub in Ashorne. We visited a few weeks ago for drinks with friends and loved it the staff were great very friendly made us feel so welcome the atmosphere was very nice.we came again on Saturday (May 28th). It was nice to see familiar faces who remembered us visiting before. Having our dogs was no problem at all even dog treats for the 4 legged visitors. We were made welcome and was informed by staff that food would re-commence at 5pm so we stayed for drinks and waited to order food Lynn promptly came to take our order and caitlin kept our drinks refreshed the food was lovely hot and nicely presented we all had basket meals. Will definitely be back to try the tasty Sunday lunch. A big thank you to Lynne who was a pleasure she certainly knows her job and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you Lynne & Caitlin see you again soon.

We visited the Cottage for something to eat. We got given a menu which was Polish Themed and was hard to choose what to have as everything sounded so nice. We all had starters and mains and they were soo delicious!! The flavours and piety were so good. 2 of us couldn’t finish the mains and we asked to take it home and had a doggie bag. The whole experience was so nice and the food was flawless. Had a great evening, thank you

I’m still not sure it’s such a great idea to be eating out at the moment but had been craving a pub Sunday roast (and the lack of washing up) but many places have stopped doing takeaway now restrictions have been eased, so I was very please to find that the Cottage Tavern would do us a takeaway. Their website is a bit primitive and wasn’t working when I looked but they have a Facebook page so I persevered and am very glad I did! I ordered easily, including free delivery, with a couple of emails. I called them to pay by credit card over the phone, then, at our allotted time warned some plates, laid the table and hoped for the best. Which is just what we got. We ordered 4 medium roast beef dinners. They were huge! Each packed separately with tender beef, roast potatoes, Yorkshire puds and 4 different vegetables. There was and extra pot of stuffing and another couple of pots of gravy. The gravy smelt divine, but had got a little cool so I blasted it for a minute in the microwave but everything else was nice and hot and all very tasty. A thoroughly nice meal without any of the usual hassle! We’ll definitely do it again soon.

Fantastic meal last night. This pub does the thing that most pubs fail to do....offer good honest pub food at an affordable price. Pie Night is £9.95 for a Pie & a Pint. But not the ubiquitous individual "pie" in a ceramic bowl that in reality is a meat stew with a puff pastry lid. No these are real homemade pies cooked to perfection in a big tray & then cut into generous squares. Usually a choice of 5 or 6 fillings....we had Steak & Ale, Steak & Stilton & Spanish style Chicken. Served with peas & a big tray of perfectly cooked chips & a boat of real gravy (which was freely replenished). We arrived at 5pm & Lesley served our drinks & then went & cooked the pies which were served shortly after 6pm....it doesn't get much better than that IMHO!

It’s always a good idea to check opening times and the menu before an outing but imagine my surprise when I found the website was “private” and I had to register before I could view. Llegué a conocer este pub de la zona. Había una gran variedad de cervezas; la publican fue bastante agradable y la gente que visitamos era amable y tenía una tradición peculiar de llevar sombrero. Una vez que quería adoptar a este pueblo y pub! We have been here a number of times before, the food is outstanding and rarely steps out of time. The locals a majority of the time are rather friendly and most of them are competitive in their raconteur. We had booked our table for 8pm and we arrived 50 minutes early, we were soon served our drinks despite it being a busy Friday night. What with the stunning weather it had indeed drew out the local village thus the tavern was a little lively. The menu has recently changed, this was a surprise to us but it also gave us a gastro challenge as to which dish to order. We watched a few other tables receiving their orders before we finally choose our evening meal.I opted for a beef lasagne which came with thick cut steak chips and a generous salad, my partner opted for a traditional Lamb and veg pie which also came with thick cut chips. We were asked if we wanted our drinks topping up which was a minor miracle given the amount of patrons at the bar. In no time at all our meal arrived. First up a massive lasagne with mouth watering béchamel sauce and flavoursome beef, accompanied by a hearty portion of chips and a generous salad. My partner's meal arrived with a minute of mine, the lamb and vegetable pie was so generous in size I thought there would be some left over. The lamb was in chunks you couldn't fail to find the bountiful amount that had been baked in the pie, the lamb itself has the beautiful consistency of lamb just off the shank and moist. Again accompanied by a bounty of chips. We took our time and enjoyed our food, we were not harassed to give up the table and this gave us time to saviour our meal.Once we had cleared our plates and our food had time to settle, we were kindly asked whether we were interested in desserts or puddings, whilst we weighed up our options we we're suitably informed that there was an additional option of a homemade tiramisu. We were still rather full from the generous portions of food from our main meal so we politely declined and passed our compliments onto the Chef.We were invited to join a lively debate about the most classic of films on another table by some of the local raconteur's (thank you Jim) which we gladly accepted. A very welcoming feel and enjoyable food made this a rewarding night out.We will be visiting again and we would recommend the establishment and the new menu to anyone we meet.

We ate here some months ago and have been meaning to review it since. It is interesting to read the other reviews, because it sounds like a totally different place! We went on a Saturday night and were the only people in there, which set alarm bells off straight away. The service was surly at best and when ordering our food, we asked for some bread and butter for the table. The chef/owner grumbled something about ..."not offering bread, this isn't a gourmet restaurant you know.....". He reluctantly provided some already buttered, cheap white sliced bread, which wasn't quite what we had in mind. When the food arrived it was decent, but fairly uninspiring. The main problem was that the chef/owner stood in the kitchen doorway, arms folded, watching us eat as if to dare us to complain. Quite intimidating. We felt completely unwelcome. We stuck it out for desserts, which were again, edible but nothing special. We felt as if we were totally inconveniencing the owners and couldn't wait to leave. We will not be back!

A lovely evening, good food, great friends. We had booked a number of months previously. This pub has a reputation for good food and we were not disappointed. The 8 of us paid £16/head for a 3 course Chistmas dinner and i'm here to tell you what was served was excellent. We all had the home made soup starter accompanied with an assortment of fresh breads. It was delicious and everything cleared. The main course was turkey and it was beautiful. There was so much on the plate that only one of us managed to clear it and that really was the only disappointment of the evening.I really enjoyed the Christmas pudding dessert but one of our number has difficulty eating and had earlier asked for something soft. The pub had readily agreed and as well as giving her a soft fish meain also did the same for dessert. Some of the party on the night, after seeing this optional dessert, said they would have preffered it over the set menu. The pub agreed to these changes as well. What can I say. Thoroughly recommended.

Me and my husband were running out of ideas for places to go for an informal but quality evening meal, and decided to take a punt on The Cottage Tavern. We arrived into what could be described as a good old fashioned village pub, with a few locals sitting at and around the bar chatting about the rugby World Cup final (which we discovered had been accompanied by food provided by Nigel - landlord and Chef). What you see is what you get - two halves of the pub in one big room. The main dining area is suitably rustic, but with nice touches to make it feel like a proper eating area. The menu is on the blackboard by the bar, with half a dozen or so starters and mains, and puds! Our starters and main courses were completely delicious, and even though my first choice of Turbot main was no longer available (at least you know the food is fresh, and not from the freezer) I had no trouble choosing something else off the menu. This pub/restaurant may not be to everyone's taste in its size and location, but if you're looking for great food, sensibly priced drinks and very talented and welcoming host/chef - look no further.

Visited this pub as it's local to us rather than driving to the nearest town, pleased to say the quality of the food and service far exceeded anything you would be able to find in town. The quality of the food was fabulous and made this birthday meal feel very special. A lovely location with a great menu which is packed full of local and seasonal fresh produce. Many thanks to all the staff at the cottage tavern for giving us the perfect end to a lovely birthday.

We went for my husband's birthday with two sets of parents who have high standards. It has a local pub feel to it and the parking is atrocious so I was a bit unsure as to the punt I'd taken booking it. I booked it because it was in a nearby village, had real ales and had belly pork on the menu.My first impressions were swept away when the friendly waitress, Chloe (the chef's daughter) came to take our drinks order. She made us feel very welcome and was very happy to help. The service took a relatively long time (but she was the only server and bar maid) but it didn't feel slow (except we had to get back for the babysitter). The menus are only on the board and there are only a few options but between the 6 of us we had most of the starters and main course boards and all of us enjoyed all of them. It's clearly better to do a few things well than lots of things averagely. The food isn't cheap but it's certainly value for money. I didn't fancy any of the starters and so had breads which was excellent hunks of quality bread. My husband had the goats cheese which he said was the best one he'd ever had. For main I had duck with various root vegetables in a delicious sauce. Really excellent. My husband had the belly pork which was also very good. All the starters and mains were delicious and everyone in the party said how excellent the food was. The real ale was really good especially the award winner (for good reason!). The red wine we had was very nice at £25 a bottle very good value. We will definitely be going back again.

We visited The Tavern on Sunday, 7 Adults and 4 children. The children were all catered for individually by Chef, to what they wanted, not having to stick to the menu, huge thumbs up from themAll the adults had the amazing roast lunch of Lamb with all the trimmings - beautiful! We were never rushed and the wonderful front of house team kept the drinks coming and made us feel so at home (even with 4 children!)This is our favourite place for family celebrations and get togethers with friends. The weather was cold and wet but the atmosphere in the Tavern was warm and friendly as always. We are always so well looked after, and really looking forward to our next visit. To sum up AMAZING FOOD, SERVICE AND VALUE.See you all soon xx

Have just returned from a 2 course Sunday lunch with my 5 children & husband & it was amazing. From the moment we walked through the door we felt welcome which for a party our size is rare, the staff were friendly & helpful. We had the fantastic roast lamb which was presented fantastically & the portion sizes both for adults & children were very generous & we are big eaters. The puddings were super scrummy also. Can highly recommend this hidden gem. Plan on visiting again as a couple & the children have all asked when we will be going again.

We've just been to the Cottage Tavern for our Sunday lunch. It consisted of 3 courses. The first was a lovely cauliflower soup. Nice and creamy with lightly toasted bread - a great start. Main course was roast lamb with seasonable vegetables. The lamb was cooked beautifully and the presentation was first class. Dessert was a trio of ice creams. These were fantastic and just right to finish off a truly excellent meal. We'll definitely be going back. Great value too for such lovely food.

It was mid-afternoon, driving on the Fosse Way back home, we were hungry, so looked for somewhere to eat. By chance we found this village pub. It was down-time. No one else around. But we got a warm welcome, and a lovely 'fish and chip' meal, cooked freshly just for us. Our dog was allowed in the bar area whilst we eat. It could not have been nicer. Thoroughly recommended

I popped into the lovely Cottage Tavern after a long day of travelling, after seeing the sign off crematorium road I thought I'd give it a go. I was immediately greeted by friendly staff, and a comfortable atmosphere amongst other customers with lovely music. I ordered the Fish and Chips and was impressed with the fast service, the fish was definitely fresh and the chips were done to perfection. Incredibly reasonable price considering the standard of food was very very good. Special thanks to the chef for ending my long day with great food! 100% recommend this beautiful little tavern to anyone.

Lovely, welcoming village pub with a top quality chef. Gourmet food but at very reasonable prices and with a good variety of dishes to choose from. Also has a great choice of lagers and ales. We really enjoyed it, and will definitely be eating (and drinking) there again!

The cottage is lovely little traditional village pub - the sort that I thought I'd never really find again because they get taken over and tarted up and lose their character. The food in bar/ restaurant is obviously cooked with care, attention and considerable skill. Three of us all had the three course Sunday lunch menu - all was really well presented and served quickly and courteously. Smoked salmon and yellow beetroot (who knew?) to start. Main was lamb - which was perfect- with fresh veg and fresh strawberry with mascarpone to finish. Reasonable price and good local beers too. Big recommend.

Waitress didn't know what was the description or content of dishes. Had to change order and then we waited 55 mins. to be served with only 11 people in restaurant. I had Jacobs ladder , a beef dish but how bizarre to mix piccalilli in pureed potatoes and put razor thin slices of radish on every dish. Either we caught them on bad night or other reviews were over rated as these were our reason for visiting this pub

Pulled off the motorway for a decent lunch and following the signs found this little gem. Family run pub with dad/chef in the kitchen. Chose the calves liver with bacon & sage and it was superb. En route this way again and I'll make it a visit for sure.

I have eaten in the cottage tavern a couple of times now (most recently 3 days ago) and it's a cut above most pub grub in this area, with very reasonable prices. Last time I had a huge portion of risotto with big pieces of fresh lobster for only £15. Fish is delivered fresh from Cornwall every week. Last time my friends and husband had the lamb - which when I stole a bit was pink and deliciously tender. They also raved about the chocolate tart. The chef has been very helpful about my gluten free diet as well. Definitely worth a visit and I'll be taking all my friends.

Chocolate Tart that is. Another great evening with superb service and absolutely first class food. This was a treat for my daughter and her fiancé' as we were going to Silverstone the next day. My wife's Ceaser salad was delightful as was my sea bass. The lamb was tender, juicy and cut like butter. EXCELLENT. The desert was oh so heavenly. My daughter and I went for the Chocolate tart this was exquisite, lovely texture and full of rich creamy chocolate. It was so good my daughter took what she could not eat on the night back to her hotel. This is seriously one of the finest local pub restaurants around. It has to be visited and the food tried if you never do anything else, its beyond first class.

Forget the endless gastro pubs serving their generic, ubiquitous, barely adequate and over-priced offerings. We have finally found a place that doesn't give you the slightly bitter aftertaste that results from the disparity between the experience you've paid for, and the one you've actually received. We turned up at the Cottage Tavern on a beautiful, sunny afternoon(which doesn't hurt) and were able to sit outside in the patio area. We had our baby boy with us and were immediately offered a high chair. We skipped starters, it being a blistering summer's day, although they did look tempting. An abundance of local produce with simple but appropriate garnishes. Save something for next time.My companions had sea bass and slow roast pork belly with interesting assortments of vegetables and proper sauces. The star of the show, however, was my whole grilled Cornish lobster, served simply with chips, garlic mayo and the buttery cooking juices. This was no one pound lobster chick, this was a one and a half kilo monster. Naturally sweet with firm but tender flesh. Best lobster I've had in years.Although quite full, on the back of this we ordered four deserts between the three of us: (Couldn't give the girls any cause for regret!) They were all well presented without being overly flamboyant, the highlight being the hot chocolate pot with fresh cherries. They also make a rather good mojito. We paid £100 for the three of us which, considering the crustacean and cocktails, we thought more than fair. I can't think of the last time I came away from a meal out with such a feeling of satisfaction. There is hope and the Cottage Tavern is where it lives. We will be back very soon.

We visited this quaint village tavern after a friends recommendation, and we were not disappointed. The best real ale I have ever tasted, and food that you just don't get locally, fresh quality produce is clearly priority. The staff were wonderful and service was warm, friendly and most importantly....genuine!!We cannot wait to come back next time we are visiting the in laws and can't wait to try Sunday Lunch.

Booked in for a family of 9. Sunday lunch menu was a prix fixee with either 1 course (2 meat/1 veg choice) - so very small range. Great local craft beers on (Church End Angels Realm a delight) Starter was soup and beautifully cooked, fresh and good looking. Pork and Beef great meat with good veg selection. Pudding was fruit compote with pancake. Great food. £15 for 3 courses. Service provided by one lady who also covered bar. Lean ? Maybe but attentive and served well. Just off the b4100 and near wellesbourne and Leamington. Worth trying. Sunday pub food at this level and value a rare find.

Me and partner visited for a quick drink after work and its nothing like it used to be, what was once a very welcoming light hearted country tavern now makes non-regulars feel uncomfortable entering as all you get is strange looks as though its a private establishment! Although very cosy clean and tidy the atmosphere definitely lets it down.

Our first choice pub was hosting a BBQ day, with none of the usual menu so they sent us here. The food was OK but not special. Parking here was a problem too, with only on street, and a very narrow road. We've not been back since.

We arrived 10 minutes after food service had ended but were offered either fish & chips or a sandwich, we chose the former. I have to say that they were the best that I have had for a very long time, if not ever. The quality of the fish was excellent with light crisp batter and the chips had definitely never seen a freezer. We followed up with a custard dessert which was delicious. We will definitely return at a more appropriate time to try other dishes off the menu.It was refreshing to come across someone who went out of his way to make us welcome. I only wish we lived nearer.

Yet another masterpiece from Nigel, we enjoyed Arrancini and Salmon to start, followed by Sea Bream and Lamb for the main. All beautifully presented and lots of delicious accompaniments which make this a wonderful dining experience. If you also want a good pub for a great drink with friends this is definitely the place. Thanks also to June for making us so welcome as always.

We recently visited the Cottage Tavern totally by chance. We stayed at a nearby hotel and as we were driving we noticed the little sign on the road for the Tavern. As you walk in the place feels warm and welcoming, the staff is very friendly and makes you feel right at home. The food, absolutely AMAZING! We were told the chef has a Michelin Star background...and it shows! The food is presented beautifully and cooked with pride. Something we didn't expect to find in such a small country place. Having agreed to meet friends for lunch, the Cottage Tavern was suggested as a convenient place to meet up. They had been before and enjoyed it.We have driven past many times but had never been in.The menu was limited but very adequate. We all chose the duck which was fantastic both in quality, quantity and presentation. This was a most pleasant surprise for a lunchtime meal. The décor was tasteful and the log burning stove made it very comfortable. There was also a great selection of real ales. We will definitely go back soon.

Another business meeting and the welcome was as friendly as ever. My colleague had the lamb and myself the duck and to say it was exquisite was an understatement. I was very well presented and tender. I have to send my apologies to chef as the vegetables looked fantastic but unfortunately I am not a great vegetable eater. My colleague though thought they were top hole.I cant recommend this restaurant enough. Always welcoming, always first class well presented food.

This is a nice pub in a small village. The decor is pleasant and it has a nice ambience. The problem for me was that the menu is very limited, there was a choice of just (I think) 4 starters, 4 main courses and 4 puddings. I didn't have a starter and I had a nice pudding. Luckily there was just one main course that I could eat and that was cooked well. The wine was expensive, house wine at £16.95 a bottle but the cheapest non house wine was about £23 and Chablis was well over £40, rather pricey for a country pub. We might go here again but I would have to check the menu first. Give it a try but be prepared for a limited choice

Wonderful service, lovely food, generous portions. We forgot our dog’s dinner, and bought a couple of sausages to keep her going - bless ‘em, they chopped them up into a bowl, added a couple of dog biscuits and brought them out first. So lovely ❤️
