Great food and warm friendly staff Don’t miss popping up n The Cottage for food when visiting Craster. What a great place and reasonable prices. Large price rations of good quality food. What a contrast to The Jolly Fisherman in Craster.

Had dinner with family here in the slightly quirky Hotspur room and thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Staff were friendly and service good. There was plenty of choice on the menu. Dishes were generously served, lovely and hot and very tasty. Can't ask for more and we will certainly return when in the area.

It's a good while since we came here and it certainly didn't dissapoint. I looked at the reviews and couldn't work out why people wrote reviews praising the place and commenting that they welcomed their dogs and sorted their food intolerances and yet only gave four stars. The dining room is really quirky with its Percy Hotspur mural (it's the Hotspur room!) The wonderful staff were straight in there getting our drinks and gave us enough time to choose what to eat. Its a great menu with plenty of choice. We were hungry after a busy day so skipped the starters but ordered a couple of sides to share. We didn't really need them because the portions were generous. The meals were first class and the cherry on the top was the bill. 60 pounds for 3 meals, 2 sides and 3 drinks was very reasonable. Will certainly return and happy recommend it. Once again thanks to the staff for friendly and efficient service

A friendy and relaxed restaurant which we would revisit. We went for Sunday lunch which was home cooked, lovely fresh veg and good sized portions. One of our party has food intolerances which were accommodated well. Plenty of locals here which is always a good sign.

Visited when staying in the area and selected purely by chance. We were not disappointed. All four of us had different things to eat and we all commented on how nice the food was. There was plenty to choose from and while we were not expecting Michelin Star quality we were extremely pleased with the quality of our selections. The portion size was possibly a bit too big, but that can never be a complaint. The cost was very reasonable, especially compared to some other over-priced pretentious restaurants in the area, and we enjoyed our meal so much that we returned the following day. The place is dog-friendly but it looked as if there were plenty of spots where dog owners were not placed so everyone was looked after. Good service, good food, decent price, what's not to like.

We stayed for three nights bed and breakfast. Also had two evening meals. It is in a lovely situation. The Inn is used by locals for meals and it is best to book ahead for evening meals. We had a 2 night stay at The Cottage Inn for bed &breakfast and we also ate there in the evening. What a wonderful break! Less than a mile from Craster but such a quiet location. Very comfortable and Immaculately clean room. The food in the bar/restaurant is excellent, this is not a gastro pub - they serve lovely hearty good quality food and very reasonably priced as are the bar prices. The Harry Hotspur restaurant has beautiful murals by a local artist depicting Harry Hotspur's life - really interesting. Breakfast was delicious with a very full cooked menu choice as well as the usual breakfast bar. Absolutely lovely bread for toast -was obviously local and was delicious! Deb and her team could not be more helpful and go out of their way to accommodate all needs. We will definitely be back.

My sister and I have stayed at the cottage inn several times before and she discovered it a good few years ago. We both went for 4 nights over Christmas with our partners and our dogs. It was really lovely 😍 a warm welcome from Deborah, her husband and staff. The rooms are cosy and clean, the beds are comfortable and big, you have everything you need for your stay. Christmas Dinner was beautiful and an absolute bargain! No stress, no problems at all. Really enjoyed the day, nothing is too much trouble. Only downside was coming home. Thank you all for a lovely Christmas brake and smidge the little dog who gets misunderstood 😊

Thoroughly enjoyed our meal here on Saturday. We shared kipper pate, husband had burger, I had seafood mornay with chips and veg and we shared caramel apple Betty with ice cream. Half a Guinness and blackcurrant and soda and was £46. Very tasty and large portions. One thing that swayed us was the reasonable prices in comparison to other local pubs. Homely feel but the only thing I would have said is that the staff could have been a little friendlier. A little run down inside but can’t fault the food! Would definitely return.

I've just read the review I did on The Cottage on our last trip to Craster, in 2021, when I commented that we were unlikely to return. 2 years later, having checked the menu and mixed reviews of the nearby inn, I read the recent reviews for the Cottage and decided to give it another try, this time with friends. What shrewd move that was!! 3 of us shared the fish platter (a first for me!) and went on to try the liver and bacon (a real rarity for my wife!!) We all were really impressed. The service was welcoming, friendly and efficient, no undue delays, a really pleasant experience, so different to our last visit. So good we returned again for the last night of our stay - enough said?

I visited this pub after a coastal walk with family and friends with our dogs . We sat in the garden throughout the afternoon. The staff were friendly and even made us aware of a local dog that was a little nasty who sits with owner outside the door to the garden. We decided to stay for dinner and asked staff if we could be found a table which they sorted for us in the conservatory. We ordered our food 6 starters 6 mains . These were not only piping hot but were also delivered together and with a smile. The quality of the food was outstanding and portions were generous. The cost of the food on the menu was also affordable. Would definitely visit again if on holiday in the area in the future.

Delicious sea food platter at a very reasonable price for a starter. However , it was huge and we had ordered mains which we definitely didn’t need. When we ordered inhale asked for a 20 min break between courses but sadly this didn’t happen. Our starter plates were cleared and the mains brought out. Could not do the mains justice. Overall decent food and drinks which were reasonably priced. Definitely worth a visit but beware of portion sizes.

We were staying nearby, and booked a table for our last night in the area. First the good points. There was a Test and Trace check in at the entrance. (QRcode). The staff directed us well on arrival, and we were shown a table in a spacious area, tables well distanced. The staff were all wearing masks. Drinks were brought quickly, and prices were reasonable. We had ice cream for desert, which was locally made and very nice. The puddings also looked good. Now for the not so good bits. The waitress who served us seemed to be in a huge hurry all the time, which was a bit off putting. It felt like they wanted rid of us as soon as possible. Not the right ambience for a relaxing night out. The place wasn’t busy, so why the rush we couldn’t make out. The food arrived very quickly, far too fast for it to have been freshly prepared. I had the “signature dish” a salmon and prawn dish in sauce which was watery and inedible. My partner had fish and chips, which was running in water. I assume they fried fish before it was properly thawed? The flesh on the fish was grey. The place is very large, with children’s play area outside. Plenty of parking. I imagine pre Covid it would have been a buzzing family pub with typical pub food. The decor and lighting in the dining room was bright, lots of central lights blaring. There were candles on the tables, but these were not lit. Not the right choice for us, as we were seeking a decent restaurant evening meal experience. I imagine if we had chosen something easier to heat and serve like pie and chips it would have been ok.

First time we have decided to go away over Christmas and decided to book Christmas Day lunch at the Cottage Inn as it was close by where we were staying. The day started well with a walk on the beach at Low Newton with our dog in beautiful sunshine. However our experience at the Cottage Inn was very disappointing. We arrived in the bar expecting to be greeted with a warm Happy Christmas but got nothing from the person behind the bar - not even a greeting. Left standing around waiting to be welcomed and shown to our table and perhaps having our coats taken. However nothing like that. Eventually a member of staff pointed out our table and we were eventually served with a glass of Bucks Fizz. My wife was served with the "Luxury Prawn Cocktail" but there was nothing luxury about it. In fact it was served with little or no Marie Rose Sauce and we had to ask for some. This was brought but without any apology. The main course of Roast Turkey was served luke warm and we had to ask for it to be heated up. I had selected the cheese board which comprised of 4 chunks of cheese. No explanation as to what the cheeses were but guessing stilton and 3 other hard cheeses - certainly very disappointed not to have been given a better selection. There was no table service for drinks and when ordered from bar I was asked for table number - I had no idea of number. When I asked for the bill we said to the waitress how disappointed we were with the meal but received no apology. Overall a poor dining experience but even worse an experience totally lacking of any Christmas atmosphere. Will certainly not be returning here.

We visited for a late lunch after recommendation from a friend. I was expecting great things. Anyhow. Great we didn’t get, we did get decent. So I cannot complain. Large Haddock and Chips. Haddock was overcooked, the chips were lovely and the tarter sauce was catering, not homemade, which does make all the difference, especially when your paying £13 for it for your lunch. The Chicken Pesto was alright. Like I said, a decent pub in a lovely area. Would I recommend it myself. No, but I also wouldn’t knock it as been substandard. We stopped off for a meal here with he grandkids and the dog after a day at Embleton. Dogs are very welcome and our collie Zac soon made himself at home. Friendly staff and a good atmosphere. Talked to a couple of the locals and a couple on holiday from New Zealand while waiting for our meals. The wait was worthwhile as the seafood platters were huge and delicious. This is a real gem a lovely country pub with a warm welcome.

Booked here for an evening meal. Service was slow, but perfectly friendly. The food was homemade and nice, homemade chips and crab cakes. Good knowledge of allergens in the food. The venue itself was tired and dreary, with little ambience. It took us back to the 70’s. If this pub had an update would try again. Would I recommend it - no...... There are too many good pubs and restaurants around this area, which make you pleased you tried them, this place was not one of those.... Sorry .....

Wy wife and I stayed at the Cottage Inn for a week over 20 years ago, and last weekend we returned for the first time since then. In many ways it's hardly changed - it's still a homely, friendly place, set amidst lovely mature trees. We had a really nice, plain pub dinner - the starter of kipper pate was lovely, full of flavour. My wife then had a chicken and mushroom pie - the size of a small planet and delicious - while I had crab and salmon fishcakes which were also very tasty. I think there's an issue with the chips - they were very dark brown and flacid, not pale brown and crisp. Now this isn't a criticism - as far as I'm concerned their appearance wasn't a problem because they were very tasty - but I can imagine other people being a bit put off by them. We were both very full so we declined a dessert. The service was friendly and prompt - there was no sign of the problems reported by other people - and the bill proved it was really good value. All-in-all we had a lovely evening, and we departed resolving that it won't be another 20 years before we go back again!

We had a good value evening meal here on our recent trip to Craster (group of 8 - about £150). Very nice fish pie, reasonable veggie options, standard pub fare.

We visited as a large family party and experienced very poor service. The food service was chaotic (despite us pre-ordering the food) such as roast dinners arriving with vegetables/roast potatoes missing. When these things were requested we found the staff to be very surly and certainly no apologies offered. A couple of members of our party are using crutches and require disabled toilets but it turns out the Cottage Inn does not cater for people with disabilities and they don't have a disabled toilet. I questioned this with a member of staff and she didn't seem to understand that they should have a disabled toilet and offered us the use of a toilet in one of the bedrooms but she acknowledged they weren't disabled toilets. The toilets were incredibly hard for the crutch users to access. Very undignified. Food was generally ok. Play area and grounds are very nice.

Large pub with a lovely big woodland carpark and good kids play area. We were on our way to Craster and the motorhome wouldn't have fitted under the stone archway to Craster so asked if we could park up there for a couple of hours then come back for lunch - they were happy to oblige. Good to be able to take the dog in with us and the food was really good. Good vegetarian options too. Glad we didn't fit under the arch :-)

We visited as a family for a late lunch, the staff really didn't want to serve us and were so unhelpful and rude that in the end we ended up leaving without eating. Won't go back.

We went for Sunday lunch. Plenty on the menu but they do a Sunday Roast, choice of meats and £6 for small and £9 for large with all the trimmings. Yes the prices are right, when I looked on the website I thought it was that to start and then extra for the trimmings but not so. The quality was as good as Sunday roasts we have had elsewhere, not haute quisine but properly cooked and very tasty with plenty of vegatables. There was not a huge difference in size between large and small, both more than adequate. The service was very friendly and efficient. We will be going back to try one of the evening meals.

A pleasant, lively place, with decent ales and good food. The range of starters was disappointing, but there was a good choice of main courses. The haddock and prawn risotto and the bouillabaisse were delicious. The wine list was unexciting.

One previous review describes a limited menu, poor food and poor service. This was certainly not our experience. The menu offers a range of fish, meat and vegetarian dishes. Everything we ordered was tasty, well-presented and plentiful. And the staff were friendly and efficient. No complaints and more than happy to recommend to others.

Lovely setting in the conservatory and better still a great lunch menu. The menus was extensive and included smaller portions for those who required them. The bar offered a great choice of drinks including guest beers. Our meals arrived in a reasonable time and exceeded our expectations considering the competitive prices. The food was well cooked and nicely presented. Will definitely visit again.

Large chain, standard menu offerings, busy, noisy setting, but good sea views, nice outside area. Food came quickly once managed to order at the busy bar. Burger sauce was the best item. Small burger Pattie, creamy coleslaw, hubby had monkfish scampi, bit over battered. Both sets of chips under cooked, when we were asked how our meal was, our reply was just received with blank stare and no response before waiter cleared our plates and left! Buffet breakfast the following morning as we expected! Basic sausages, overcooked black pudding, the bacon, mushrooms and hash browns ok, had run out of baked beans, but at least you could order different eggs if didn’t fancy fried.

Cool bar with friendly clientele. Staff are smiley and attentive. Love the skiing theme and the Brewdog beer. Great having the ski videos on the big screen aswell. Just a thought, have you thought about showing the live skiing on Eurosport/Discovery+?

It was ok but nothing to push the boat out for. My daughter wanted chicken tikka panini but apparently had no tikka, I asked for a sandwich on brown bread cake but they had no brown bread cakes left. Really?? And this was only just after noon. Nothing special about the ham sandwich which all in all tasted bland. The dog ate most of it.
