Cote Brasserie - Winchester in Winchester

I sign up to the Cote newsletter and this month's treat was a glass of French 75 cocktail for up to 4 people if they each order a main course. On booking, I also mentioned that it was a birthday lunch. When we were seated a lovely waitress called Gabby presented the two of us with a glass of kir royale and said happy birthday, which I thought was a lovely gesture. I mentioned that I had booked via the March cocktail offer and was looking forward to also having the cocktail. She then said she wasn't sure if we could have a birthday treat as well as the cocktail. She checked with her manager who said I had to choose either the birthday drink or the cocktail, which I thought was petty as the drink had already been poured and would presumably have to be chucked. I choose the cocktail and she took away the kir royales. This meant that my birthday wasn't celebrated as we got the same as anyone else who was on the Cote mailing list. Our waitress was Amy, who was indifferent snd did not make eye contact. The food was good but we felt uncomfortable. The only saving grace was Gabby, who was lovely and friendly and actually wished me happy birthday.

Disappointing booked for 17.00 door arrived at 17.58, it had been sitting on a side for 5 minutes before served my food arrived Luke warm although plate was hot had to wait further 15/20 minutes for another to arrive. The duck was good 2nd time around I could not have dauphinoise pots but had the truffle chips (although paid extra) We had to ask to order drinks, and asked several times for water before delivered. Portions very small for other meals so much so my son had to cook food on return home and my OH had a sandwich (even though he had a dessert my OH) Choices for gluten and dairy limited although app helped to see full ingredients. Children’s menu limited for DF children most contain cheese / dairy You may want to check children’s menu fish goujons as contains milk but no milk in full ingredients, apparently made in house but waiter could not check! No options for dessert gf and DF sorbets all labelled MC, we had to wait till we got home for puds for my son and I Chocs for Mother’s Day lovely thought but would be nice if there had been dairy free options check out Booja Booja, or have non food gift. It’s great having a gluten free menus but there is high % of population DF than GF, maybe consider in your menu development when refreshed.

Booked here for Mother’s Day lunch with my mum and 2 daughters . I have eaten regularly here for years with my family but wanted to write a review to commend all the staff working here on Mother’s Day . The restaurant was so busy and we had to wait a little longer between courses for our food but the quality of food and service were exceptional and worth the wait . Despite the restaurant being so busy , the quality of food and service was faultless. You could see the staff were rushed off their feet but the young manager that served us upstairs ( didn’t get his name ) was still very attentive and nothing was too much trouble . He even gave myself and my mum a little box of Champagne heart truffles because we had waited so long for our food . This was very thoughtful and I wanted to say thank you for making our delicious lunch even more enjoyable. 5 star service and 5 star food . Will be back very soon :-)

This is a delightful restaurant with a lovely atmosphere, very good food. I had a delicious fish soup, followed by an amazing tarte tatin. Good service and helpful staff. Chatted to interesting people on the next table

We didn't have a booking but went in to see if we could have lunch as it was my birthday. Lovely welcome from the team, the excellent Antonia looked after us and we thoroughly enjoyed the 4-course prix fixe menu. It was great fun people-watching (and little dog watching) from our table too. Our first time at this restaurant, and will definitely be back. Thank you, Côte Winchester team!

Excellent value and service. We went as a group of four for lunch and have to say the service was spot on and the food excelling, hot and not long to wait for our meals. I had the Cheese soufflé which was far superior to many others I have tried and the Poulet Breton was nicely cooked. The rest of the group had Beetroot salad and the Crab Maison followed by the Breton Fish stew and the Vegan Mushroom Bourguignon.

Smart looking restaurant, seating not too close together, we had a booth for 5 people. Service was good, very friendly staff . The food was lovely, calamari’s were some of the best I’ve eaten, even my fussy grandson had some and liked them. I had the Breton fish stew, absolutely loved it. Husband had sea bream, grandson had a fillet steak, which he said was up there in his top 3,and he’s had a lot. And my daughter shared a cote de beouf, cannot fault the food , presented well and cooked to perfection. Well done Cote we will return

We had a lovely table in the window and lots of space which was fantastic. Both menus were given to us so we had lots of choice. There was a good variety of wine and nothing was too much trouble. We all agreed our food was delicious and portions were great -we were all full!

Great food, great service, great value. Cote is always good but Winchester is one of the best we have been to. Great quality all round and will definitely be coming back !

As with every Cote the food and service are brilliant. We had the Cote Buger and a Chicken Gratin dish and bith were superb. For dessert the Panna Cotta was rich, creamy and the perfect end to the meal. Excellent value for money.

Me and my friend visited Winchester for the Christmas Market on Saturday 16th December. Everywhere was full but we managed to secure a booking here for 14.45. Everything was superb. The service was friendly and quick. The food was incredible. We started with charcuterie, fougasse, French Onion Soup and Steak Tartare. Everything was fantastic. I followed this with Pork Belly, dauphinoise and Savoy Cabbage. The little bursts of sweetness from the golden sultanas in the cabbage were amazing. My friend was raving about her chicken. We couldn't manage desserts! Even though it was so crazy busy all the tables were really well spaced out, with no table close to you. We couldn't fault the place!

Worst restaurant experience for many years. Decor awful few people in even on Sunday with Xmas markets should have been a warning sign. Long wait to order longer for food. Half portion of soup on a starter snd when complained said it’s all they had left. Mains two brought our ten minutes b4 other five. Unappetising, beef meal Luke warm chicken dry with two pieces carrot four green beans. Worst meal ever. Offered free desserts and drinks but only one was drinking still cost short of £200 pounds. Would have been better off in McDonald’s. Spoilt our visit to Winchester and was no way like a cote brasserie which we go regularly in Cirencester. Very very disappointed indeed. Don’t visit here till they redecorate abs get a new chef. Certainly a meal to remember for all the wrong reasons.
