Part of the Cote chain. We have used several of them in London and elsewhere. This was the first visit to the Brighton restaurant and it did not disappoint. Great friendly, attentive and efficient service. Varied menu with well priced food and wine. Highly recommended

Starters of crab maison and French onion soup were both good. Of the two beef bourguignon mains, one was good and the other very gristly and inedible. The salmon main dish was so far over-cooked it was sent back untouched and I’m really quite surprised it was allowed to leave the kitchen Service was - as usual - very good and the atmosphere was great. We are regular diners at this restaurant so we know this was a rare failure…

I came by Côte when I collected my ticket for an event at the Brighton Dome Concert Hall. I wanted an early dinner and as Côte is just over the road, I cancelled the booking I had in another restaurant and booked a slot in Côte for 17:00. I got there a bit early I was warmly greeted by the manager and showed to a lovely window table with a great view of the venue. I ordered the French onion soup and the duck. I wanted the duck without cabbage, so I was offered green beans as an alternative. I ordered some wine by the glass that arrived before the food. The soup was just delightful with two large bread slices covered in cheese. When the duck in orange arrived that was just excellent, so tasty. With the service, value for money and great food, I really could not fault the evening. I was really looked after by both the manager Cassandra and the server Faye, who both provided first class service.

Smaller portions, less good quality, very noisy l. I had the crab starter, which was watery and lacked taste The duck main course was okay, a simple dish, simply cooked. Dophiniose potatoes used to be a favourite from here. This time, they seemed very plain, not much fkaour6. I make these myself. By comparison, the Cote ones were undercooked. They seemed to have been rushed, texture was wrong, We used to consider Cote a default restaurant in Brighton, but after this experience, we would think twice before going back. Shame

I avoid Cote completely now both in Brighton and Lewes. The staff are so nice it must be embarrassing for them to serve up the stuff that comes from the kitchens. I’ve had burnt and I’ve had undercooked. The safest bet though, if you find yourself at Cote, is the steak frites and the brunch is ok.

As always at Cote, our waiters were professional, attentive and speedy. Chilled water was brought right away, and topped up later, which as a big water drinker, is a real plus point. My friend and I both had crepes with cherry compote, chocolate sauce and pistachio cream - delicious and just the right size after a lunch main course. We also both chose roast ratatouille with beans, which was...fine, rather soupy, with unusually small chunks of vegetables and very thin slices of courgette arranged on top which were still mostly raw after roasting (they needed blanching first, I think). But, as ever at Cote, a relaxing time.

My friend invited me to her birthday dine at Cote for some classic French cuisine. 🐟The salmon bearnaise was paired with crispy chips, and to be frank the bearnaise sauce was the best part of the whole dish. That salmon was smooth and tender yet was under seasoned which I found myself reaching for the salt multiple times. The portion was small for its value and there was unfortunately little sauce. 🍰The Creme brûlée was so delicious! Very delicate and creamy texture, nothing too sweet. It was just perfect! 🍫The Paris Brest was alright… the choux pastry felt stale and the pistachio cream didn’t have much of pistachio taste in it. The macerated strawberries were quite overpowering making the dessert more sour than sweet. 🤵‍♀️The service was quite slow especially how there was a large crowd to be served on a Saturday night. The food took almost an hour to receive. It took many attempts to gather the waiter’s attention to order. Yet when asking for a birthday serenade for a friend, they took the request promptly and serenaded her in a wholesome way!

The service and atmosphere was excellent, could not fault this at all. The waiter was very attentive and we were seated in a comfortable part of the restaurant. I have to comment on the main courses as the menu suggested that they come with a ‘herb salad’ this is very deceiving as all that was on three plates was a garnish of parsley, NOT a salad! My main had no ‘salad’. What was served was a small handful of potatoes and half a chicken. We agreed that the food tasted nice but very overpriced for what was served. Why not serve an actual salad with the main OR some greens of some kind or change the menu to be more transparent with what is included with each dish? On a positive note the French onion soup was lovely and as mentioned, absolutely no fault at all with the service.

Our 45th wedding anniversary and chose cote as we went to France on our honeymoon. Very disappointed! Brighton was rammed yet cote wasn’t which should have worried us. Before we ordered I asked if the entrance door could be closed as I was cold. They shut it, we ordered, then they opened it for the rest of the time! Dinner was dry chicken, a meagre portion of green beans, 2 portions of sauce which had to be emptied with a knife it was so thick but it wasn’t plentiful. We didn’t bother to say anything until the bill came up including a service charge of nearly £10. Then we decided enough was enough. They reduced the £70 bill by £10 and took off the service charge. Won’t be going there again what a shame

Our lovely waitress for the evening Faye was incredibly diligent, attentive and deserves respect for her professionalism, regarding the food I would say the steak was quite overpriced for ita size, I would have expected it to have been thicker or accompanied by something extra, it was delicious and cooked well however, I would say the only thing stopping me coming back was the prices of drinks and steaks, everything else on the menu was reasonable and of course the staff were excellent.

The building was very impressive and there was a very good vibe. We were served drinks and our order taken quickly. We had the set menu. Although not vast this represented very good value for money. Really enjoyed the food. We both had the charcuterie board, my wife had chicken and I had steak. All were excellent. The only problem we experienced was that I ordered a side portion of vegetables that didn’t turn up. That aside the service, food and service was excellent and we both had an enjoyable meal.

Started with a pink lady apple juice and a glass of red (house) The food was amazing, and I had a little bit of a wait for food around 12-15 minutes. Drinks came first after about 9 minutes little to long for non cocktail drinks, but it was worth the wait. Then our starters came out French onion soup + baked camembret was amazing combination would highly recommend. Our mains came shortly afterwards 2-3 minutes after we had finished our starter. We had a sea bass + sirloin they had an amazing flavour to them. Overall, our experience was quiet and lovely. We will definitely be coming back.

We went to cote for a late breakfast. On the several occasions we've been here before, it's been good service and good food. The restaurant was all but empty and we were shown to a table. Drinks (Champagne and coffee) came quickly. We had a pretty long wait for the food to come - too long as they had few covers. We were not offered refills and had to ask for water. Eventually the food came. We were not asked for refills or sauces. We had to ask for water. They did not check in with us. The breakfast cassoulet was different and tasty. There French breakfast was an abomination - how a professional cook can ruin that. Scrambled eggs were raw (like soup). The black pudding, toast and mushrooms were all burned and cold too. They refunded the offending breakfast - but all I really had was the glass of champagne.

Côte in Brighton has made an everlasting impression on me this evening. Not a good one. To start the service was slow even though there were only a handful of tables present when my party of 4 got seated. This on its own would have been fine as we were not in a rush. However, the food was sub-par at best. I ordered the french onion soup without cheese (take note) and the mushroom bourguignon. The soup had either been sat under a hot lamp for the past hour or had been microwaved to near oblivion. I suspect the latter as the thick skin and marks on the side of the bowl seemed to point that way. Despite asking for it without cheese due to having a strict dairy allowance (mildly lactose intolerant), it came with shredded cheese haphazardly thrown on top before "cooking". Definitely not worth the £8. The mushroom bourguignon was the embodiment of mediocrity. Firstly, to give it some credit where due, the fable mushroom fake beef deceived the 2 vegans in my party. Well done! Sadly my praise ends there, as the dish was sparse of any recognisable mushrooms and the mashed potato was far too great for the meager amount of the rest of the dish. I would not recommend this establishment to anyone who either is or was a chef, not to anyone who values the taste of quality food. The price was what I'd expect from a food establishment within this city, but definitely not worth what they are charging.

We’ve visited a number of Côte restaurants in the country and always enjoy the food. Brighton Côte was no exception on Friday night - delicious perfectly proportioned food. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful too. He seemed keen to ensure that everything was right and that we were happy diners. I would give five stars except for two things. Firstly when we arrived we walked past maybe a dozen tables that hadn’t been cleared; several of which were around where we were seated. I assume the staff were stretched and prioritising diners which is reasonable but it made the restaurant feel more dirty than it would have felt. Similarly the upstairs atmosphere is lacking and having walked through the buzzing downstairs it was a disappointment to spend the evening there. Also…the waiter must have skipped the bit with the card machine for tips - we’d have loved to have given him a tip so don’t know why he did this. 4 stars - brilliant food, good service and I bet most of the time the atmosphere is great as well.

We visited here for an evening meal with friends. We opted for the fixed price menu. This was disappointing as at least three of the limited items were unavailable but we decided to go ahead. We were sat upstairs with only one waiter working and as hard as he tried he was struggling to keep up. We had to wait ages for our drinks and then even longer for our food. When the soup finally arrived it was cold so was sent back. This took ages to reappear and when it did our friends who had the Charcuterie board had already finished. After a long wait our mains arrived. On the whole they were ok but my steak was cold and had to go back. Thankfully it turned up fairly quickly from its reheat. As already stated the food was average at best and the service was poor but we in no way blamed our waiter who did well considering he was flying solo. We bravely ordered more drinks and some desserts/coffees and these came within an acceptable time. Overall a very disappointing experience from a restaurant that we used to like a lot and seems to have fallen from grace. When presented with the bill our waiter had kindly removed one of the bottles of wine we ordered saying he was sorry for the poor experience but the service charge of 12.5% was still on there. We asked for this to be removed which it was and we opted to tip our waiter individually as he had tried very hard to keep us happy. This experience has certainly put us off returning which is a shame as we have had domestic good times and food here and we did enjoy visiting here. Sadly after speaking with others this does not seem to be an isolated incident so perhaps this is something needs to be addressed at management level.

We were going to Theatre Royal to see a play, so booked for 5.45. There were 6 of us in the group. When we arrived, we were taken to our table, where we waited. And waited. And waited. After about 20 minutes of waiting (during which time, not a single member of staff spoke to us), my husband flagged someone down to ask if we could order some drinks. We were told that someone would be along "in a few minutes". And then we waited for another 10 to 15 minutes. My husband then went up to the bar area to insist that someone come to serve us, which they (begrudgingly, it seemed!) did. Luckily, we had had plenty of time to decide on food so we were able to order everything at the same time. However, we were told that some food items (the vegan burger, for example) would take half an hour to cook. We did not think that was reasonable - especially for a burger! - but we thought that since it was only 6.30 at this point, there would be (just) enough time. Remember that we were due to be at the theatre afterwards. The show was due to start at 7.45pm and we wanted to get to the theatre as close to 7.30pm as possible. Our food arrived at 7.15pm. This meant that we had to rush eating. And some food items did not arrive for several more minutes. Had the food been of an acceptable quality, this would still have been pretty poor. But it was not. The chips were pleasant, but everything else was bland and uninspiring. Overall, very disappointing. It seems the restuarant trades on the location rather than on quality of food and service. Needless to say, we will not be going back.

Strangly, we had to book our food in advance..... but apart from the new computer system messing up royally... we did get all the food we ordered. The creme caramel was ambrosial!

Great venue for our large party to celebrate Mum 80th. Staff were very attentive (although lighting the cake sparklers proved to be a challenge) Food was delicious and priced quite reasonably. Our second visit and it won't be our last.

For a Christmas dinner, to be out of garlic seasonal vegetables, starter duck rilettes, crème brûlée AND cheese board, is very disappointing- how can you be out of cheese when there is a Tesco Express 5 mins up the road?!

A good range of options for all tastes - fish was perfectly seasoned and cooked. Duck Rillette was disappointing as was the crepe. Overall everyone enjoyed themselves in what is a great space.

Really disappointing visit to Cote Brighton earlier this month, it's quite incredible how much the standards have slipped there. In summary, we paid over £100 for some microwaved leftovers, experienced terrible customer service with one of the party ill from the meal over the weekend....

Faultless service, delightful setting but the food, albeit a little different, felt a bit overpriced for the mass produced nature of it. Wines were both excellent and good value, whilst the free tap water was a nice touch.

A great evening atmosphere, a mellow and calm lit restaurant giving a nice romantic or sophisticated ambiance. Many will have social events here or a fancy post work evening meal and drinks. We had reserved and were seated promptly at a nice table by the bar. The wait staff were attentive and noticed when we beckoned them. Service was fast, there was no long wait or sense of food taking too long to arrive. Quality: Christmas cocktail noel blanco, coffee liquor and milk it seemed, it was presented very well, but lacked Christmas taste. It was more of a...glass of milk with garnish. Would recommend vanilla droplets, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and sugar mixed into an espresso shot added to it. I did request an espresso as the coffee liquire was very faint for taste. Food: 10 oz ribeye Presented well, was requested medium, slightly more pink more med rare. The steak itself was "cold" despite being recently cooked. It doesn't seem the steaks were left to rest to room temp and were cooked straight out the fridge, giving a colder internal and overall steak. Garlic butter left to melt with the steak tasted great with good marbling , I can't say excellent it's just made 4/5 for the steak as did not feel cooked or prepped to an excellent standard. Fougasse Nice soft bread brilliant to tear and share. Very light brushing of garlic butter on the top, could use more, finished with sea salt flakes. Calamari Delicate and delicious. No stringy bites, all clean. Crab Maison Served on nice sourdough bread, tasted more like tuna with a hint of crab but was still enjoyable. Our bill had two drinks added to it which were requested to be removed, a mix up on the tables which ordered them we were told. Always check your bills as some restaurants do this intentionally. Overall it is a very pleasant dining experience, great food, great atmosphere.

The meal was vastly overpriced and failed to live up to its description. It was marketed as fish stew containing kalamari, mussels and sea bream. We were told they were out of bream but would make up the deficiency with something else. Unfortunately, there was no sign that they did so. My ‘stew’ contained one piece of potato and a few bedraggled bits of onion. It was more like a soup than a stew because the liquid was so thin. It was quite tasty, but overall it was disappointing.

Very disappointed with the service tonight and some of the food was warm ,fish stew was like water.asked for gravy when ordering off the kids menu ,which I had to ask for and not offered, the table didn’t get cleared ,explained the drinks would take longer due to a party upstairs .it was my daughters birthday and felt let down .the manager came over and said theater the waiter had been to the table twice and I said no one asked if everything was ok ? After certain discussions they decided to take money off are bill. The fact is they had to many people and not enough staff to cater for .the manager needs some interpersonal skills when dealing with customers
