Popped in for a bite before work and noticed that it was filled with dirty tables which made me want to take away as i went to get my tuna sandwich i noticed a pair of scissors just lying there as i gave it to the guy working he looked completely clueless, once my food was cooked they picked it up with their hands!! and just shoved it in the packaging so when it came to eating it, most of the tuna and cheese was stuck to the top and it was not enjoyable. I wish I went back to complain and get my money back but I just didn't have time by then

This place is the reason I now have a hatred for coffee I visited here once and most likely never again I had waited in a long queue when finally managing to see the person behind the counter I was shouting at by a group of angry teenagers who I had annoyed after cutting in line and they were angry and I meant angry I politely told the "leader" of the group and he was cross I was like who are you and he looked me dead in the eyes and said you are an ***hole and I was thinking you rude little boy you should go on the naughty step he was upset because he couldn’t get his cappuchinoh or whatever it's called anyway I didn't even order a coffee I just walked out and shouted hay who's bike is this it wasn’t there witch was embarrassing if you like coffee and a annoying teen less world don't come here

Terrible. We could not bring ourselves to order a drink due to the strong smell of urine from across the other side of the shop. Premium prices for an extremely dirty and unhygienic branch, I expected more from Costa, especially at a York branch.

I have never been in a Costa as dirty as this one the table was sticky and the toilets were disgusting, you couldn’t wash your hands properly as the tap was hanging off . It was very poor as nowadays you expect cleanliness of the highest standards especially in the toilets. The staffs clothing didn’t look much better either. I’ve given it the name Costa - la-covid .

Sin embargo, no pedí un caramelo sin azúcar, y pude ver que la chica que lo hizo lo puso sin azúcar: puedes notar la diferencia con bastante facilidad. No tengo la confianza para subir y decirles que soy muy tímida, así que envié a mi madre (que lo probó y también podía decir) y el Barista se puso muy a la defensiva. Hubiera sido una mejor experiencia si se hubiera hecho correctamente en lugar de alcanzar el azúcar libre como un atajo porque está más cerca de ti porque "oye, no pueden decirlo", supongo que de nuevo, cualquiera puede decirlo.

Toilets are the dirtiest I have seen in a costa. The rest aren't was not much better! Not that busy but staff not friendly would not recommend.

I can't really imagine anyone going to this particular branch of Costa unless you're a patient, visiting one, or one of the unbelievably dedicated and professional staff of the NHS to who we all owe so much. All the more reason why staff at the coffee shop should show a little understanding and not be disgustingly rude to customers. The withering look I was shot by a member of the staff there, with whom I'd had no previous contact was totally unacceptable. The other staff were just generally ignoring customers. The place looked like a typhoon had been through it as hardly a table didn't have debris on it and only take away cups were available as the dishwasher had packed up. It might have been busy, they might have been short staffed, but even so come on Costa - this was well below expectation...

Nice, friendly service. Unfortunately I was unable to use an electronic gift card I had pre loaded on entering the shop. I had ordered drinks before I was advised. The place is not too roomy but comfortable enough. Cake also well received.

I had a coffee and sandwich here after visiting A&E with an ill friend. It was a nice place to feel more ‘normal’, after the clinical hospital areas. Parts of the cafe seemed quite dark, but there was also seating in a better lit area. Very good WiFi.

Great coffee staff not very happy looking as though it was a bit of a pain to serve you, I love costa coffee normally this one not so much, the toilets were disgusting and some poor lady had to change her baby in there .

Time to rest our weary feet after a full day walking around York. Enjoyed hot drinks and two slices of cake. Good service. Plenty of seating. Usual Costa experience. Recommended.

My wife and I were visiting York for the day and looking for somewhere to have a coffee and a snack. We like Costa coffee so we decided to try here. It's a nice place and we really enjoyed our coffee and snacks.

Lovely Costa in a spacious shop . Good coffee , friendly staff , nice cake and toilets . What more could you want .

Visited with family and had a lovely lunch. Panninis were fab, the carrot cake is delish!!! Iced coffees really helped to cool us down and also tried the new Berry crush, oh lordy it is immense! I dread to think the calories in it!!!

Costa is a very convenient and easy place to meet people for a drink. The service is always swift and remind me to use my costa card. There are usually special drinks in different seasons you have to look out for and their choices are never dull. There somehow always manages to be a table and I always end up being in there for an hour!

Good food & drinks at reasonable prices & good site to watch the world go by.- ONCE you get served! 3 very pleasant but very busy members of staff with queue to the door,no room to move out of way from door & tables as line grew.Tables dirty & not cleared as people left,no staff doing that-customers piling stuff on to other tables so they could sit down..

Came to York for the day so went for s cuppa in costa the Staff were lovely and hot chocolate was nice but we could swing off the cob webs next to our table

Stopped in here for some lunch. Got given dirty cutlery so had to go and ask for clean, then mine and my partners soup were flat cold. Went back to ask for my soup warming as it wasn’t even luke warm and a rude member of staff said, as i walked away, if she wouldn’t have moaned about a dirty spoon her soup would still be hot.

These toasties are nationwide so they will all taste the same - of nothing - flavourless ham and cheese in dry bread - take some gaviscon - why can’t extortionate priced places supply better quality goods

Popped in for a Cappuccino and noticed that they now do coffee with coconut milk so my wife had a vanilla late with coconut milk. Only small but quite expensive plus it didn’t taste great. I won’t be ordering any of them again. The place itself was ok, toilets not that clean.

Called for coffee got seated ok coffee good but toilets and main coffee shop floor dirty.would I go again no better cafes in York with a more personal touch

Must admit it was 4pm on a busy day, but my husband queued for a good 15 mins! The place itself was filthy - floors got food all over and tables sticky and as for the toilets!!! Not sure when they were last cleaned!

Called here for a drink when we visited York for the day. There was a queue and it took ages to get a drink, service was so slow. The tables were a mess, not cleared or wiped. There was food on the floor too. Most of the tables remained the same throughout our visit. As for the toilets, they were a real mess - dirty and the floors were soaking. I use Costa regularly and I’m afraid this was the worst I’ve been in, sorry

Myself and my family called here today after a look around the Christmas market, we had hot chocolate, latte, toasted tea cake, mince pie, carrot cake and almond slice, all were delicious, the service was very efficient and the staff were very pleasant. This place was lovely and clean, we will visit again in the future when in York visiting my son and his girlfriend

Nice coffee shop - good coffee - restful seating areas - would recommend very into toddlers and young children - chairs provided.

Very disappointed bought a cheese and ham toastie, when we got it the toastie was only toasted on one side, we queried this and was told this is how they served it!! Obviously york do it differently to Scotland

We popped in here for a drink while walking round York on a semi-busy bank holiday Monday. Anyone who knows me, will know I don't go out on a busy bank holiday, but could not miss out on a trip to York. It was sunny and hot and Costa provided me with a ice cold latte to enjoy with my walk. The restaurant was busy but not overly so, the staff very helpful and drinks reasonably priced. Clean and bright, this was as expected for a Costa. Have been before and will use again.

The usual standard with friendly, but very busy staff. Tables weren't kept clear though unfortunately, again as staff are so busy and it was a bank holiday saturday when we visited.

Having been a costa fan for a few years now i find myself not enjoying my usual cappucino, this was the first Costa where the staff tried to help with my choice of my morning cuppa,I , ended up with an Americano,which i thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you girls|

Right in the centre of York there are plenty of options for a cup of coffee. Costa offers the usual spectrum of drinks, the cafe has plenty of seating over two floors. There is some seating outside too although the view is not that great.

. . . . too many tables had not been cleared. I really had to search for a clean table while my husband ordered our coffees. I shall be kind and put this down to this coffee shop being very popular and staff not getting enough time to clear up. We'd definitely give them another chance though if we were to return to the area.

The cappuccino coffee was delicious as was the tea we ordered. Service was quick and very friendly. Chocolate chip cookies were yummy!

We stopped in at costa coffee for a cup. I ordered a medium coffee and it was really big. There are a ton of costas throughout the city.

Back again in York for the second time in a couple of weeks. Service was as usual excellent and the drinks were served hot and the blueberry muffin was very good. One of the netter Costa's we visit !

Somewhat dismayed to be told "Scottish notes not accepted here "!!! I thought this attitude went out 20 years ago! Thankfully accepted Scottish Bank card!!!

Visiting family in the hospital and disgusted at how poorly run this shop is. My expectations of Costa are usually high, but not here. I asked to speak to the manager, when the young girl informed me that there wasn't one on site. The range of food was incredibly limited and the staff couldn't be working harder but had no manager to help and no management in place.

Nice staff, very friendly and efficient service. We got our drinks quickly and sat down and enjoyed them in the seating area. Thanks.

Visited here for the second time on a trip to York.Quick service and pleasant site. It is good to know you can go somewhere reliabel when you are a stranger to the town

We had intended to have a nice sit down relaxed tea (or coffee) at Betty's, but the line was out the door & loooong. Not wanting to wait for who knows how long, we decided to go to the Perky Peacock. It is a very!!!! small place & there were already a number of people in there, so we decided to just stop at a place we had eaten at in another country. The stop was at Costa. It is a far cry from Betty's but the warmed sandwiches & coffee were very good. We ate & were on our back seeing the sights, then back on the train for a 2 hr. ride to London.

Staff were quick to serve and there were plenty of tables to sit at. Table could have done with a wipe though. Drinks were fine however my coffee wasn't particularly hot. Average all round I would say.

As always with Costa their coffee is excellent but feel 2 serving plus 1 person doing everything else is not sufficient for a Saturday morning. Cafe very busy inside and out and many tables needed cleared. Staff pleasant under pressure.

Dropped in here for a quick cuppa and a sandwich. Service was as always excellent even thought they were busy. Great value and food was consistently as good as always.

Love Costa wherever I go, lovely relaxed atmosphere and staff always very friendly, had a popcorn coffee was lovely and family had toffee fudge all was very nice

We called in for coffees after a long walk around the shops of York. Good service with a smile which is always nice. The place was full but found a table quickly. The toilets were very clean which is not always the case with Costa!!

We had a good experience here yesterday. The weather was great and as we sat outside at lunchtime, we were right in the sun and it was lush.

As a black coffee drinker.. COSTAS black coffee disappoints once again… insipid and luke warm. The service however was teriffic in pleasant surroundings. I will not call at a COSTAS again unless unfamiliar surroundings and heavy rain forces me in again!!

My wife is a big fan as she has a frequent eater card and so we get freebies now and then. What I like is that it good value, consistent and service with a smile !

As Costas go this is a nice quiet store. Good coffee,usually brought to your table, a good selection of newspapers to read and pleasant staff. However it lacks atmosphere.Maybe it is the absence of any background music .

I know that this building is on or near to the shambles, well it's nearly falling down and is a shambles. Dirty windows, tables and chairs are past it the toilet situation downstairs is farcical. Not impressed!

Went in today as the daughter was apparently going to have a fit unless she got a frappucino fix (no idea what that is, she seemed to enjoy it.)

Its a smaller cafe than regular Costas which gives it a quieter feel, situated at the back of WH Smith shop It has the same great service as most Costas I've been in with excellent,friendly, customer orientated staff. I prefer it to the main Costas in York as I hate the endless queuing but with about eight tables [ i havent officially counted but you can get a better idea of the size] and a couple of lounging sofas its cosy and can easily be full.

Costa thinks that the public will moan for a while and then get used to smaller portions - dream on!! I am not coming back here until they bring back the previous portion sizes! Fed up with this!!

A good cup of coffee made exactly hoe you like it. The coffee shop is up to the normal Costa Coffee standards with very friendly service

I never realised that a Costa Coffee Shop was hidden away at the back of W H Smith's in Coney Street. It's a smallish area of about 50 covers, but is clean and comfortable. Apart from the tables, there is a Stool Bar overlooking the River Ouse. I enjoyed the Hot Chocolate and the Toasted Chicken & Bacon Sandwich. Happy Staff..

A typical cafe Costa, they have everything a Costa cafe normally does. It's quite a nice one though, with some comfy seating.

Went with a friend during the summer, although it rained the day we went so was nice to get out of the rain and warm up for a bit!

Every time I visit a costa Coffee shop the result is the same. Pleasant service by the staff. Tables, floors and toilets are never clean. Mediocre coffee. This establishment has maintained that standard.

we like costa coffee so usually choose it over nero of stabucks. However, if too crowded or noisy...avoid it. Also if you need to use the loos, insist on it.

Costa is the best coffee brand in UK. Much better than Starbucks for example. This particular restaurant is having a great location and cozy atmosphere. Big windows open up to the park. You can also read a newpaper there.

Tuesday afternoon so not a busy time. Queue from the counter to the door. Coffee was OK ~ perhaps if they spent less time putting a fancy pattern on the coffee foam they could serve people more quickly. The upstairs gents toilet had no toilet paper, the hand dryer didn't work and the seat was so loose it was unusable. I did tell a a member of staff who's comment was 'oh'.

Stopped here for coffee, so disappointing compared to the lovely independent cafés in York. The staff were friendly but the surroundings were dated and scruffy. We were really disgusted with the state of the toilet but had no choice as we had to use the baby changing facilities. The changing board was dirty, the bin had not been emptied and the floor was strewn with toilet paper and sanitary products. This was not a good experience for anybody let alone visitors to York.

Having visited many Costa Coffee's in the past, this was the worst experience. To say it's in a tourist hotspot the staff member who started to serve me then past over to another. Staff were confused who had ordered a panini, even though they had a numbering system. They even gave it to a customer in the queue who said it wasn't theirs. Drinks mixed up also. This all happened while my coffees were being made! I was not given a receipt and when I asked I was told they couldn't print one off. Bad news if a business meeting venue! Trying to get in between tables to sit down was another story with a tray of hot drinks 'H&S; issue'. Customers in our area were all complaining about seating being squashed in (a saucer width between 2 seater tables). Hygiene is not the best either. Some staff were not in correct uniform. It might be a good time for the area manager to visit this site or look on your cameras! Might have to pay another visit.

The service, food and drink was ok but I was disgusted with the unhygienic toilet area. The tables were also dirty and previous orders left on them.

This is my favourite Costa Coffee shop, mostly I have to say, because I live across the road, just off the cultural and social desert that is Wigginton Road! I gave it full points because, once you get in and sit in the interior, you would never know you are in the hospital. The coffee and food are superb, the surroundings are clean. It is very busy and bustling, but I love that. I don't find the service too slow, there is always a long queue , but the friendly staff cope brilliantly with the volume of traffic.

came here on a Thursday lunch and had a ham and cheese Panini. Really nice and good quality. Went upstairs because it was quite busy however the queues at the till wasn't that bad. The only downside is its quite expensive however at least its good quality .

A 25 minute queue for two basic and expensive coffees isn't very good chaps. I was clean shaven going in and had 5 o clock shadow when I came out.

Over the weekend we visited the Costa outlet and had excellent coffee and delicious sandwiches for lunch. Sandwiches had obviously been just prepared, were fresh and delicious. (BLT in granary and Bacon and Brie panini) Also, were served by a lovely, friendly Trainee Barista, who asked a guy if wouldn't mind moving so as to accommodate our party of 6 including 2 children. He did, which was very kind of him. She was only clearing tables but absolutely made our stay with her excellent people skills. She was a tonic on a cold day. Tabbycat313

I love Costa as its always clean and the food always nicely presented in the gleaming cabinets, let alone the first class coffees. This branch stood up. Lovely friendly cheery staff as well.

Love Costa but always feel let down by the mess and the toilets Cakes and coffee are always good as are the paninis

When we are in York we always call into this one first. If it is busy we go to another Costa,there are 3 all within a 5 minute walk of each other. It never disappoint's and while at times it is only one person on duty they get on with their job with a smile. If you want the best you may have to wait but it is worth it,and they fetch your drink/s to your table. Nothing is too much trouble for any of them.

Pitstop here for coffee and cake mid morning. The cafe was busy but the coffee did not disappoint. Belgian Jaffa cake was delicious.

Staff always willing to go extra mile. Service is excellent. The shop is always clean and tidy. Atmosphere is warm and friendly.

I was in Costa coffee shop ad I truely say that all 3 I been in to are very much clean there coffees n food are good the staff ate so friendly I very much injoyed the comfort in sitting with my coffee n toasty I wood very much go back the next time I visit york

This is a great Costas. Most outlets in this chain are good with consistent quality but this one is particularly friendly and welcoming. Coffee is excellent and casual foods and muffins are served nicely - with plates and cutlery as appropriate. I would always head here when in York knowing the atmosphere and service to be good. The cafe is clean and well maintained.

I only wanted a quick snack and it was raining so I popped in here for a sandwich and to get warm. The girl was so nice, offering a glass of water and presenting the sandwich on a plate. Most appreciated!

Stumbled across this place when I was about to leave York. Really great service, the staff here are very bubbly and friendly. Very clean restaurant. Amazing cappuccino! :P

James the manager is fantastic always so bubbly and remembers customers and there 'usual'! In Fact the entire staff at York high ousegate Costa is so friendly and always make conversation, it's a nice layed out coffee shop and nice for a meeting spot for friends, shopping days or a first thing in the morning wake up!

We regularly come here whenever we are in York ,which is quite a lot .Service is always good and efficient though it does depend on how many people are in front of you at the time . They have recently overhauled the decor and it now seems slightly less intimate than it used to when it had the sofas etc in there, also it can sometimes feel a bit cold, some heating on cold mornings would help . Wouldn't stop me going as it's a convenient stop off for a coffee . So on the whole not bad , coffee is good anyway .

Called in for coffee n toast whilst in town, had to wait ages for the toast despite hearing the buzzer some 10 minutes before we got our toast. My little boy needed the toilet, took him in the downstairs toilet and it wasn't very clean, dirt and grime all round the toilet and sink, scum over the tiles and grout, think its a while since its seen and bleach and had a good clean.

We called in costa this morning for a coffee and a cake. The coffee is really nice and the cakes although tasty are expensive. The prices keep increasing while the portion size seems to shrink. It's now at the point where we don't think they are value for money so we will not be buying them anymore. Costa risk falling sales due to the prices and portion sizes.

I am on holiday in York and every day I have had my breakfast in Costa, lovely toast and marmalade and good coffee

We often go to pocklington costa coffee shop, we have those wonderful toasted teacake, with butter , great service nice girls that work there .Coffee is fab and sticky toffee creamy cooler is lovely

Probably not a branch of Costa Coffee that you would choose to visit but almost certainly as busy if not busier than some other branches.

Had some good, refreshing tea, but not overall impressed with the place itself. Mid morning, so busy, but with some tables not cleared, and only having one toilet for maybe 40 odd customers was not good, with the queue snaking back near to where people were trying to enjoy their drinks etc.

Right, it's not an actual Costa Coffee Shop, but it's at the back of WH Smiths in York.

Stopped in for breakfast. Our two teas and almond croissant were served with a friendly smile. The toasted tea cake was brought to the table soon after.

York has 3 of the best coffee houses in the UK. Spring Espresso, Perky Peacock and Harlequin. It is a fact - all 3 baristas at these places came in the top 10 in the UK championships and 1 recently won world barista !!

We have been to many Costas but the York one really lets the chain down.
