Costa coffee, Odeon in Gateshead

Visited at 5.40 and ordered a coffee, Staff were less than enthusiastic. Clearly two guys serving didn’t get on and we’re arguing at the counter. All in all it took another member if staff to join them to sort out my small order. This took 17 mins! Another guy ordered a toasted sandwich. It was cooked then left on the side. Item was cold by the time staff realised it hadn’t been given out. The staff really need sorting out. This truly was an appalling experience. C’mon Costa sort your staff out.

Just average / could be better then what it is but when you can choose to get a takeaway as the best option then that’s ok hence the rating

Used to be a regular here but sadly since Covid it’s all gone seriously downhill. The staff who once made this a stand out for all the right reasons have since moved on and the previous high standards have slipped. The place needs a good clean. Even when it’s quiet it’s still difficult to find a table that’s been properly wiped clean. Staff don’t seem to be in any rush, maybe lack of training, others lack the interpersonal skills which you would hope for in a coffee shop environment. Even the quality of the coffee doesn’t seem to be the same. Such a shame as it was once a gem!

Service can be slow and it's a little dirty. Could do with a much better system to help busy periods

I hadn't visited this place in almost two years. However, I recently visited around a week ago and again today for a spot of lunch and a drink. Whilst this is still a very pleasant coffee shop, the overall dining experience has regressed since my last visit. But first, let's start with some positives. It's an aesthetically pleasing Costa Coffee, having recently been refurbished. The seating is very comfortable and all the tables are kept 2 metres apart in line with social distancing regulations. On today's visit, the staff were very diligent in keeping the tables spotless, which was good to see. The food is also pretty decent; the toasted sandwiches are nice and the hot drinks are very good here. It was pleasing that the barista on today filled my teapot FULL of hot water; something which other establishments can be scant on nowadays, if you know what I mean! This place is also connected to an Odeon cinema, which I understand has just been refurbished meaning all the seating is executive. As a result, right before a film is about to be shown, the queue can get fairly busy, so please bear this in mind. However, as aforementioned, there are a few things which could be ameliorated. Firstly, the service is not what it used to be. Whilst the staff are friendly and polite, the members of staff serving us the other day were very sluggish, leading to a very long wait in spite of the queue being relatively short. They were dawdling with the hot drinks machine, I think! Also, I think the selection has diminished; the choice of toasted sandwiches has definitely gone down, as has the choice of snacks. It's still not a bad offering and what they do offer is nice. Overall, I still enjoyed my experience here. With maybe some customer service training, the (I'm assuming new?) members of staff can get up to the calibre that the old staff used to perform at, so that queueing time can be reduced, leading to a better experience for all the parties involved. Would recommend!

Staff were very helpful helping me with dairy free choices. Brilliant service and set out well for social distancing.

Visited here today and it was nice and quite but I can't see that when the cinema is open it's going to be packed. But good friendly staff and service was nice and quick

Often visit with friends for coffee, cake and a catch up. The staff are always friendly, the restaurant is always clean and welcoming, and love the coffee. Like that you can sit outside with the dogs too

We no longer go here after calling once a week for years, the coffee is not consistent mostly pk but not always, the sandwiches are terrible with meat on them that is cut into tiny little bits, almost like someone has chewed it and then sprinkled on a bit, for the price you should at least get whole pieces of meat, the tables are frequently not cleared, even when it's not too busy, we have found a lovely little family run coffee house, so goodbye Costa.

Don’t go to this place if you want a quiet cup of coffee - staff very unpleasant. Need to be careful of children running around screaming while parents play on their phones. If you are BAME - not very welcoming.

WOW this cinema has been refurbished and it’s fabulous. All screens have luxury full-reclining leather seats. Fabulous oh and the film was good too!

Staff seem to handle busy periods well and the drinks have always been a good standard. Food is also good and they have the usual Costa cakes etc.

Came here with the kids before the cinema. They loved the comfy chairs. Nice coffee for me and they enjoyed their sandwiches. Perfect little place to chat and chill

Went to see a film at 20.10 and directed to Costa for coffee. Waited while a young male member of staff stood sideways doing nothing asked if I could be served and told no it's closed. Several customers at tables with coffee and no sign saying closed. I said just wanted a coffee to drink at the cinema. He replied come back tomorrow. Total idiot and very poor customer service. Could of served me on the time it took to ignore and be rude to me. Will not be going to either the Odeon or Costa again. Staff just too rude.

we always enjoy our visits here , and the staff are always so nice , but one night we did feel a little rushed by a new member of staff which is unusual .other than that everybody is so pleasant and helpful , it is such a nice place to meet up with friends and is in the perfect location .thank you for always making us feel welcome .keep up the good work .

Customer service is fab, prices a little higher than other costas though That have a storytime for pre schoolers once a month

My favourite costa coffee place, as ladies there are polite and friendly, its expensive, but food and drinks are lovely so don't mind paying that bit more

Used this Costa on a few occasions whilst visiting the cinema.Staff always seem very polite and adhere to any awkward coffee orders. Tables always wiped down and never to busy when I have been. I would much rather come here than get bent over and done dry by the cinema's food and drink prices.I hope Costa considers moving to the new cinema in the town centre once that opens, as I am sure that will be the deaf nail for this cinema.

Staff very helpful. More GF options appearing and kept strictly separate. Can combine with Cinema visit or just pop in.

I bought a takeaway coffee to drink at the office. When I came to drink it, it was barely warm. Not impressed and not worth returning to complain.

Clean and tidy venue. Staff were efficient and the freshly made coffee was excellent and tasted great.

Was fab to be able to have a nice coffee whilst the kids had what they like. You can collect Odean points.

Great teas, coffees and hot chocolate (with marshmallows) they have some good choices of toss ties and desserts

No surprises, just a simple espresso shop, same as other Costa Coffee experiences. Staff a bit slow, but OK.

Each morning after dropping kids I try to get a coffee but the service is so slow that I often have to give it a miss. And the customer queue is never really long. 3 people max. At least save money but it's frustrating.

I was shopping in the tea and thought I would pop in for a sandwich for later on and there was No gluten Free but when I ask the staff they had loads in the back Mmm so I was very pleased and they do a few cakes as well

Nice friendly helpful staff plenty of stock and choice clean toilets. Child friendly never fails I visit once a week.

After visiting a few in Warrington this has got to be by far the best. The hygiene of this Costa is the best I've seen. I would highly recommend a visit. Staff are all lovely.

Visited here with my husband brother sister in law and three children under the age of 3.. place was nicely busy had a nice atmosphere and child friendly! Would recommend it! Staff seemed happy to help and cheerful!

Staff are great really helpful, goose choice of snacks, nice range of desserts and biscuits, lots of different drinks to choose from. Lovely place to meet friends and catch up

If you liked the first two Tom Hanks prequels to this movie Inferno then you will not be dissapointed, the action is fast paced and the story line is very good with a few on the edge of the seat moments, and good twists in the tale.

I usually come here at least once a week after shopping, the coffee of course is good, but what really stands out at this particular Costa is definitely the staff, they are so lovely and very helpful this is why we choose to visit here, well done guys.

I love it here, lets you kill a bit of time prior to your film starting, has all the usual high standards of a Costa Coffee but you can add the food and drink on to your odeon points card rather than a Costa card which I found fabulous, as Odeon points make free cinema trips!! :-)

Friendly staff. Standard menu that everyone is used to. Well stocked. Aware of queues and potential time restrictions with films starting.

I have been to many different Costas but this is by far the best. The team are always really friendly and make the best drinks. Also has a great atmosphere and is actually pretty relaxing! Just what you want in a coffee shop 😊

An easy place to go and relax. However, the queue is too long after the school drop off around 8:50 and i often give it a miss. Shame.

Although being a small Costa it is very nice to sit in whether attending the cinema or not. The staff are very friendly. Only problem is the limited seating.

It can take too long to get served here - especially when you're rushing into a film - but the coffee is good. The staff could be friendlier

I go to this Costa frequently and they know how I like my coffee. Very nice friendly staff. Very chilled atmosphere. Not the most smart modern place ever but great to hang out in.

I visit here at least twice a week, the staff are extremely friendly and this is the reason I use this so often. Costa is Costa but it is the atmosphere and staff that make this one.

Visited the Odeon 26th Jan, bought a couple of coffee's, very quick, friendly and efficient service. Can be quite busy at school time with MUm's waiting or after kiddy drop off but usual excellent standard, no complaints.

I have been to a few Costa's but this is my favourite. Its always clean, everything given to you is clean and the service is great.. I would definitely recommend..

This is for Costa Coffee in the Odeon cinema, Silverlink, Wallsend, Tyne and Wear, I called in today looking for a Christmas gift, thank you so much to the lovely helpful staff who helped me pick some things and they gift wrapped them beautifully for me, thank you for the great service well done.

After waiting 10 minutes to get served I was greated by a young girl who asked me what I wanted then turned to her friend who told her a joke and both laughed then the girl turned and repeated what do you want when I repeated my order she passed it on to her friend who proceeded to make a latte with tepid milk when I left I took a sip and my order was wrong... I don't mind queuing to be served I don't even mind having to repeat my order but after queuing for 10 minutes and repeating my order the least you can do is get it right... Needless to say I won't be going back!!!

Este es un lugar decente. Nos gusta el café de Costa como regla y prácticamente sabes lo que te van a dar. El personal es magnífico y eso es lo que lo distingue. También hay un plato de agua fuera para el perro que siempre está llena con agua fresca. Un buen detalle. Es parte del odeon así que no puedo dejar ningún propinas, pero al menos puedo dejar una bien merecida crítica positiva.

i am a frequent visitor to costa coffee in golden square and stockton heath. 1st time visit here and thought the coffee and toast was lovely we were plagued with flies whilst eating!!!! a terrible experience which has put me off visiting this one again

I love it here, it's perfect for a quiet hour with my book and a coffee. The staff are so lovely and nothing is ever too much trouble for them. I'm literally here a few times a week, I love it

A good location close to shops and housed inside the cinema, being able to get a decent coffee to take into the cinema with you is great or meeting up for coffee with friends before watching a film. The staff here have always been friendly.

A menudo vienen a esta costa, ya que es muy práctico y podemos estar seguros de buen servicio. El personal siempre es amable y servicial, y es genial ahora que lleve la tarjeta de costa. Me encanta el pastel de zanahoria aquí ya que siempre húmedas y deliciosa. Si quieres tener un pequeño regalo para escapar de la prisa es el mejor lugar para ir. Yo uso este lugar cuando me llevar a mi hijo a ver una película, lo único es que hay que ir temprano si quiero que mi café con leche. luchan para arreglárselas cuando está ocupada, fuimos semana pasada y me había esperado más de 15 minutos y la única razón por la que me pasé un lugar en la cola era porque la gente nos dejó en frente de mí! No eran prisa, así que si estás en el cine y como yo, como un café para llevar en luego ir temprano! Dejé la cola también como me habría perdido algunos de la película! Si es un popular nueva película, por favor ir temprano, o no te molestes a menos que son un adicto de café con leche como obviamente estoy! He estado en varias ocasiones antes y no han esperado demasiado tiempo para ser sincero, bien no más de diez minutos.

Fui a este lugar por lo menos una vez por mes, a veces dos o tres veces por semana, el servicio es siempre fantástico, las bebidas son de la altura de Costa, lo que se puede esperar. Me gusta sentarse en la parte de atrás donde hay sofás y pueda derrumbar, mucho más relajante que la otra Costa en el metro Centre. Lo único que te defrauda es el precio de la comida.

Lovely staff , sometimes very busy , but always has a relaxed atmosphere,and when you smell the coffee you just know its chill out time .cakes do run out fast and i think it would be nice to always have a large selection on view .because it is so busy at times it is difficult to keep up the clearing of the tables which is very important, because new customers like to sit down to a clean table very fast due to the turnover of customers i understand this can be difficult .Every time i have gone into this Costa i always feel looked after by lovely staff well done !.
