I recently visited Brew By The River in Newcastle, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The staff were not only friendly and attentive but also highly knowledgeable about the menu. They went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed and offered excellent recommendations. As for the food and drinks, everything was top-notch. The coffee was perfectly brewed, with a rich and smooth flavor that coffee lovers will appreciate. The menu offered a delightful variety of options, catering to different tastes and dietary preferences. I particularly enjoyed the freshly baked pastries and the hearty brunch options. The atmosphere was another highlight. The interior is cozy and stylish, with a welcoming vibe that makes you feel right at home. It's clear that a lot of thought and care has gone into every detail, from the décor to the comfortable seating arrangements. Overall, Brew By The River is a must-visit in Newcastle. Great cafe restaurant next to the river with a cool, friendly vibe. Excellent food, reasonable price.

We were bought vouchers as a Christmas gift for the restaurant, Trakol, and tried to book a table in January but was informed the restaurant had closed down. They have ignored multiple requests for a refund of the vouchers (offering for us to spend them in the cafe which is not what the vouchers were purchased for), lied and stated they would get in touch with the family member that purchased the vouchers and never did. Still fighting for a refund of £250. Dishonest company! I’m also pretty certain they knew the restaurant would be closing within a matter of weeks when they sold the vouchers but sold them anyway, effectively theft for a service they were unable to provide. Sought advice from Citizens Advice Bureau and will be reporting to Trading Standards.

I went here during the summer in 2022. The vibes were IMMACULATE!! Great place to go after work on a Friday, or bring some friends along for some food and drinks. Decent prices with a range of cuisines that all taste good and amazing view of the river :) However because it’s mostly outdoors, going during Autumn and Winter isn’t the best.

Lovely spot under the Tyne bridge for coffee and brunch, I had the avocado on sourdough with poached eggs and it was lovely, a nice spice to it, great crunch bread, the coffee and chilled atmosphere was fabulous too, friendly helpful staff too, great spot and also worth the scenic walk across the Tyne to get to

We decided to walk from the Newcastle Railway Station, and took the "long way" to turn this into a nice exploration through Quayside, across the Millenium Bridge, and alongside the river. The journey back using the Swing Bridge made it an enjoyable loop, adding to the overall experience. We had the pleasure of sampling four delectable IPAs—three by Wylam and one crafted by By The River. Each was unique and full-bodied, showcasing the kind of craftmanship that you hope to find in a local brewery. Whether you choose to sit outdoors or indoors, the views are splendid. The open-air seating provides an unobstructed panorama of the Tyne bridge and Newcastle, making for a perfect backdrop to sip your brew. If the weather isn't cooperating, fear not—the indoor seating offers a similarly picturesque vista. By The River Brew Co. delivered on all fronts: excellent beers, stunning views, and a convenient location that can be easily woven into a walking tour of the city. It's the kind of place that makes you feel like a local, even if you're just visiting.

Stopped doing the favourite beer of visitors and even the staff because it was outselling the own brewed “beer”. Staff even said they dont get it. Definitely not going back there anytime soon

On the Gateshead side of the Tyne, the containers and river view make it a nice alternative to the Quayside. It's a big bar between the Tyne and swing bridges. Nice beers and a fair price. Give it a go it's worth it.

First visit here after looking at it numerous times from the Quayside. It's okay. Gave it 5 stars because it's overlooking God's river and under God's bridge, otherwise it would have been less stars.

Popped in here for a pre dinner drink. Great location right on the river. Only the outside bar was operating. Because it's outside the drinks are served in plastic cups. Found it more expensive than the pubs, 20 pounds for 2 pints of beer and a gin and tonic.

Only Stout on tap was a guest and low ABV. Very weak and fairly disappointing.

A really nice outdoors pub on the riverfront. There is a good range of drinks and plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy the warm weather in.

Great location for a start, right on the river, with views over to the Newcastle side, and catching the sun from early afternoon through to mid evening. There's a weekend street food market too.

I ate here in 2019, and it was fantastic. Food and service both. I hope it's still just as good, as I'm returning soon!

Always a nice variety of beers, dog friendly, lush in the summer with cover for the rain. Only fault I have is the coffee stout is gross. Tastes like they've used old spent ground coffee for the coffee flavour, almost has a jalapeno twang. Super weird and not great. Other than that, my lass likes the sours, I like the ales. Recommend!

Astonishing venue and location. Top notch restaurant and Wylam beers. A must visit spot on any trip to The Toon.

Always a great time at by the river, good selection of beer and good variety of food in the market behind. In summer it has one of the best beer gardens around with sun pretty much all day.

It is a pleasant place to visit, particularly on a sunny day and near the river. The atmosphere is the reason for its value. We had some drinks there and relaxed, while enjoying the view.

Arrived hoping to be able to try a few tasty beers, but only possible if you've booked a meal as well. Was told to visit their stand in the food market, but this didn't have as many options I had expected after looking online. Disappointing.

The cheapest pint is £6 here and while the location is lovely, we found better places elsewhere by the Tyne (Tyne Bar).

The beer here was great, but we ordered food via the app and waited an hour. Can’t order at the food stalls so have no idea how busy they are. They also have no sense of urgency. Don’t bother.

Just an exceptionally anti-consumer and anti-social system. Can't interact with staff of the various stalls as they'll rudely tell you orders are done via the app only. You then have to scan a QR code to slowly order via a laborious app which quietly adds a non-removable service charge and a removable (but not obviously included) 10% tip. They've somehow managed to gentirfy sheds into overpriced beer and extortionate takeaways.

I think we visited on the wrong day as the atmosphere seemed off. It was sterile and the barman wasn't particularly approachable. The beer selection was fine, lots to choose from but not much variety in style. The outside seating area was plentiful and the fire pits were a nice touch. On a Friday night this is probably the place to be, but a Tuesday not so much. Give it a visit, the view by the river is worth it.

Great dog- and group-friendly hang out spot right by the river. Fun selection of craft beer and loads of street food options at the hawkermarket. Veganatomy szechuan seitan banh mi was especially delicious. Smooth operation with very friendly staff. Scan and order with W8R app, and your order will be served straight to your table (different areas will have different menus - go exploring).

Fab location with great selection of food outlets. We tried a couple and would highly recommend Dabbawal Indian street food! Point to improve: It’s on the expensive side (£7 a pint), the beer selection is small considering its a tap location and the app confusing. Didn’t take away from awesome location and fab food/drink atmosphere would defo recommend 😄

Good quick bite fish tacos! Not a lot of non alcoholic options to drink but great setting neat the river.

Fabulous place sat right beside the river with fresh, crisp beers and a variety of food options. Staff are very helpful and welcoming. The Hawker Market on weekends is fun too.

A bit disappointing. Turned up just before 8pm and was told they were closing soon (?) but could buy a drink. I thought cool, will grab a pint and chill outside - figured they wouldn't mind if I hung around since it's an outdoor venue and the cups just get chucked in the bin when people are done. Sat for 10 mins or so then got hassled to "drink up". Dunno why I bothered.

Incredible spot and very nice setup. But £7 for a pint and having to download an app and insert email and mobile number to buy a slice of pizza is crazy.

Great place with the view and delicious burgers but beers in plastic glasses are just a shame in 2022 ! Why can’t you just buy real glasses to help a little environmental issues ??

Awesome location with a superb atmosphere. Great place to have a few drinks on a warm summer evening. Great selection of IPAs too.

Really popular bar and an absolutely ideal location for catching a little sunshine when it appears. Nice staff and good beers too. Damn steep though, but that's somewhat standard for a place of this stature. The overall picture here is definitely a big positive, but do not rock up expecting to sink a load of Carling.

Unfortunately they decided to close an hour earlier than published opening times.

Serene environment with great craft beer and shots while overlooking the Tyne river is a yes every time. Prices might be a bit steep but seems like good value for money

Nice beer, location, and atmosphere, but the plastic cups really cheapen the place and send a wasteful message right by the water (a lot of cups probably blow in). Why not have nice glasses with your logo on and charge a deposit if you're scared of them being stolen? Also the necessity to download the ordering app AND creating an account seems unnecessary for just wanting a couple of pints. Entering the taphouse is usually a nice experience. Good potential here but there are some issues.

The positives - the food was good and there was a nice view over the tyne from the seats. The negatives - The music was far too loud, you could barely hear someone sitting just next to you, the app wasn't the best - we had a hard time trying to order anything and it was full of people smoking and vaping. Wouldn't recommend to families but overall it was alright.

For the price, good quality of food

We partook from the menu of craft IPAs, and we weren’t disappointed. This bar, craftily architected from shipping containers, has a modern, international vibe and a is a great addition to the Gateshead riverside, looking over the Newcastle Quayside. A short walk from the new Hilton, of the Copthorne over the swing bridge, or anywhere on the Quayside via the millennium bridge.

A must go place for seafood in Newcastle

Lovely location, drinks are nice & you can try different types as they're not your usual, they brew several different types. Staff are always friendly & it's great to be outdoors, right beside the river with fantastic views of Newcastle & the bridges.

Ordered food through the app as instructed, order failed 3 times but I still got charged twice for food I did not recieve. I am still getting charged 2 weeks after my visit. Disgusting! Also beer is very over priced £7 for a pint. Would not recommend.

£7.76 for a pint in a god dam plastic cup! Forced to pay 26p to use the app and refused to be served a pint at the bar. Oh and they auto include a large tip hoping honest people won't notice. Con artists and shysters!

Visited on a Wednesday so the tap room and coffee shop was the only things open. Little bit disappointed that they only had one of their own beers on. However they had a good choice of other breweries

Food is awesome and there are many choices. The Pizza is my highlight. This place could be improved by not allowing dogs. We were seated near to a pair of entitled doofuses with their large neurotic anxiety hound. The thing kept barking randomly and very loudly and was quite disruptive. Not great when you are trying to eat and relax. This place is a loud (there's music blasting all the time) and very busy environment with servers carrying orders to tables, and people moving all over the place. It's not the place for your pets (especially not large potentially dangerous dogs. Nobody believes you have any real control over it.), and clearly the pets don't want to be there. People should be encouraged to leave them home. I wouldn't dream of bringing a parrot, snake or cat here, so why are people bringing their dogs? And why are the doormen letting them in? The presence of pets everywhere is a problem and affects other diners. Lastly, it would be good to have some napkins easily available as it's more like a food festival rather than a restaurant (which is fine, I love food fests). Just something to be aware of. I'd recommend that anyone going here should bring their own napkins or some kitchen roll.

Stand in a puddle to get a £7.50 pint in a plastic cup and you can't go inside unless you've booked a meal. Thanks very much.

No longer a great bar, now an overpriced substandard street food venue with barely any drinks options, all of which are absurdly expensive.

Incredible experience sitting by the Tyne at the dawn. Really nice light effects on the bridges around us, excellent fire at the back and good drink service because food took twenty minutes to come. It was good music but pointing over the river. Very polite bouncers at the entrance.

Great location on the banks of the Tyne, almost underneath the Tyne Bridge. We came here because the food places looked great, but sadly almost everything except the bar is closed during the week. We did get a beer and a pizza though, and the service was great. Lovely way to spend the evening.

Probably the best bar in Newcastle, right by the tyne with great views. Beer is top class. They have a selection of their own beers and some guest ales too. Table service due to covid which was fast and efficient.

Great quick service (considering how many tables there are), good ordering system (you'll need to download the 'W8R' app) and lovely view. Only thing I would say is I was hoping for perhaps a little more variety and more cask ales. Also not cheap but you get what you pay for. Good atmosphere, just make sure those kittiwakes don't leave a present in your pint!

Over priced ordinary beer. Great location....hence the price.
