Felt very rushed by member of staff when being served. Tried to find a clean table ,the chairs are all heavily stained, the tables really worn .The flooring very stained and dirty, The toilet so discusting, refused to use. The whole shop needs a good refit. The Sandwich cheese and ham toastie for over £5 was ok and the Latte was cold. This is the worst Costa I have ever been in .Very disappointed.

Went in for a morning cup of coffee. Slow, poor service with disinterested staff. By the time they actually served my coffee it was already cold.

I often frequent Costa coffee shops - indeed they are my favourite I visited the Alton shop last Friday and quite frankly was appalled with the state of cleanliness of the shop - the counters - the floors - the worn out and torn chairs - the dirty wall pictures (you could even see the smears where someone had attempted to clean them) - I could go on Do not visit

Afraid to say this is the worst Costa I have even been in. The tray which my cake and tea sat on was revolting, I was given a stale end piece of carrot and walnut cake which must have been there for days and was rock had. Just to add to the experience is they have the loudest food processor ever which is being used every 2 mins and is so loud you can’t hear yourself think. Do not come here if you want a cup of coffee and relax.

The cafe is totally filthy, very bad staining on the seats and floor in very poor condition. Table wear and cups not clean. Always the same people occupying the seats who bring in their own drinks and food which means no where to sit if you are a patron. Doesn’t appear to have good management or leadership to deal with the squatters.

Unfortunately upon our visit to Alton Costa Coffee, we were disappointed with the cleanliness of the cafe and cutlery/cups, especially when Costa set such a high price point for their products. Sadly, my coffee cup had some dried bits, which looked like cocoa powder or coffee powder plastered firmly onto the lip of the mug, where I was about to drink from. Attempted scrubbing off with a napkin proved that this debris had been on the cup for a while as it would not budge, and I am disappointed no one would of noticed this and retired the cup or gave it a proper clean before serving my coffee in it! Another glass meant for the tea we had ordered was also extremely stained. Sadly, the general tidiness and cleanliness of the cafe was not up together. One of the two toilets was barricaded in by chairs (I presume it was out of order?), while the other was not very clean, to say the least! This is all a great shame, as a coffee shop selling drinks at premium prices should definitely be getting the basics, like cleaning and washing up, correct every time.

The 3 girls at the counter were too busy talking to pay much attention to their customers. So they got our order wrong at first. Then the Americano was flat and cold, so they had to remake it. Better second attempt. My friend's pain au raisin was stale, and she left half of it. My toastie was not cooked underneath, and actually wet and soggy, like a bathroom sponge. The plate was wet. I took it back to the counter, and they cooked it again, so it was burnt to a crisp on the outside, and welded cheese in the middle. I left it all,and went to the Co-op across the road for a sandwich.

Came in here for a drink last week , wa simpressed how clean the place was as before this pandemic I had to ask for the table to be cleaned so I couldn’t sit down . But no they are making sure them selves and customers are safe

I visit this costa often and the staff are by far the most friendly I have come across in any of the branches i have visited. They know what I drink and get it on the go as soon as i walk in which as a customer makes me feel valued. staff always have a friendly chat with all customers as they prepare your drink. never not seen the staff busying themselves with customers or store upkeep when there are no customers waiting to be served. Top friendly service every time.

Quite a few choices here, and I found 'Costa' the best by a margin, and possibly the least expensive. It was doing well when I visited, which is a good indicator. I would certainly return here.

So often these High Street coffee shops are full of cluttered, dirty tables and disinterested staff. No so here, a refreshing change to be met by friendly, efficient staff and nice clean tables that were quickly cleared away as occupants left, if only other coffee shops were as good as this branch.

My local coffee shop, it serves a mighty fine latte, the staff are friendly and efficient and it is highly recommended.

My husband had a vanilla latte, and I had a decaf latte. The coffee flavor is delicious. The space is clean and the service is efficient. It's the best coffee we've had in Alton and London thus far.

Toilets need cleaning. Other than that it was the same generic experience you would expect. Go to an independent coffee shop.

Amazing coffee and great ambience. The staff are quick compared to a lot of places I've been and the coffee is always spot on. Keep it up!

Good coffee, selection of cakes and sandwiches plus friendly staff and comfortable seating makes this the ideal meeting place.

Costa used to be my favourite treat & as a result I've spent a lot of money in the café therefore was very disappointed when I came in with friends & got sent out almost immediately because we hadn't bought anything yet. This was especially frustrating as less than a week before I'd come in with another friend & bought food. I didn't feel we'd been given a chance to buy anything before getting removed from the shop.

Costa Coffee is a welcome place in Alton, as the nearby Swan Hotel appears to make only instant coffee! The coffee is very good, and there are pastries to enjoy. Coffee of all types is available.

Since the redesign and two price hikes, everyone is at sainsburys in alton, and i can't blame them...cheer up costas, you may never hold the high street again but its no reason not to smile when we come in for coffee......if we come in again........

Realmente me vaya aquí para su café, que me encantan. Ocasionalmente sentar si las reuniones de amigos. Siendo justo el centro de la ciudad justo en el muerto es normalmente bastante ocupado durante las horas pero el servicio costa es bastante agudo y que normalmente no tienen que esperar demasiado tiempo.

Fuimos aquí 27/01/17 y la comida nos pareció caro y como para el coffeeWELL utilizan una taza de podría haber sido mejor.

El café ha tenido una renovación, y ahora parece ser más grande y más brillante, aunque la zona de asientos no ha cambiado.

Visitamos aquí para encontrarse con un amigo en maternidad. Mucho espacio para acomodar el carro, y el personal estaba encantado de pasar la mayor parte de la mañana allí mientras que sólo compra 2 rondas de bebidas.

A very busy cafe with a lot of tables and surprisingly fast service. A sociable and attractive place to spend time in even if its only for coffeee and a free newspaper

Could be improved:Good as far as chain coffee stores go but could be so much improved by a larger selection of cakes with at least one vegan/ dairy free option (please??) and an alternative to soy milk (almond/ oat). These little changes make a big difference! Plus side - a good size place and you can often get seating. Pretty next to the river that runs through the middle of town.

Only visited once and doubt I will return. Very small seating area which is always full (so it is obviously popular!) Very expensive for what you get. Next to no vegetarian choice (well, there was one)Staff didn't take my order correctly and appeared disinterested. Don't like being so cramped when I am eating either.So, personally, this place is not my cup of tea.

We visited Costa Coffee after a long motorcycle ride. The drinks were nice and cakes very tasty. The staff were friendly and the service was good. I know this chain is a tad expensive but what they serve is very good.

Nice Lemon tart plus usual cost coffee offerings. Some outside seating on the pavement by the river. Sounds beautiful but it's all a bit on a corner.

This branch of Costa has just had a refurb, so it looks smart. But on closer inspection, things are not being cleaned thoroughly, so it's already looking uncared-for after a month. The toilets are still pretty grimy with hopeless hand-driers that seem to be powered by a lethargic hamster on a wheel. There's no evidence of them being regularly cleaned and they are frequently without toilet paper.I could overlook these shortcomings if the service made up for it, but alas... no. The staff really are in desperate need of basic training in how to be polite and welcoming to customers. This morning my drink was unceremoniously dumped on the counter in front of me as the barista turned her back on me and muttered 'Enjoy' without even glancing at my face, let alone making eye contact. They weren't especially busy, and I thought that was rude.The coffee is perfectly drinkable, but not prepared with any care or finesse (no chance of any latte art here).Annoying, despite all the above it is still better than the nearby Caffe Nero or scruffy independent coffee shops (reliable wifi and tables I can work at), so I am likely to remain a (mildly disgruntled) customer until Starbucks comes to Alton.

My friend & I both got a small hot chocolate with all the toppings each it was delicious but in total cost 8.10 just for two small drinks!

Being a national chain you know what to expect when you go into a Costa Coffee... and this one is no different. It does the usual drinks and the usual cakes, which always seem a little processed to me.The staff in this Costa are a bit hit and miss, some are brilliant and others not so.. so depending on what day and who's working the experiences vary.I'm a big supporter of local businesses and believe that there are other coffee shops in the town that offer nicer coffee and better cakes than Costa, but that's just personal opinion.There's not really anything wrong with this place, but nothing to shout about either.

I have used costa over and over and the service superb and the drinks and snakes great. Today we called in and ordered our drinks and food. We were sat next to two other couples and a guy sat on his own when suddenly a waitress walked over to where we were sat upturned a leather chair and gave it a full valet blocking the walkways and clearly not something that should of been done in the middle of the room while everyone was trying to enjoy the experience? The guy sat nearest sat gazing in disbelief as she continued to scrub the chair. Its was clear by the state of the leather chair it needed cleaning but not at our convenience, possibly before they opened. Cleaning tables after use acceptable but cleaning a leather chair that obviously had not been cleaned for a while in front of paying customers trying to enjoy there visit unacceptable practice. There was a chap sat on another identical chair that also was filthy not that days wear and tear and clearly not been cleaned for a while.

fantastic service, clean and good value for money and friendly staff. Definitely pop in for a coffee or pot of tea.

I am not a fan of these chains, preffering independent cafes but we did enjoy our Coffee cake and hot chocolate! Nice relaxed atmosphere too

Often pop in for some time out coffee and sometimes a cake! Staff always happy and helpful, better than other Costa's we have visited. Keep up the smiles

Usual high standard with a helpful staff. Large seating area available. Set in the centre of the town conveniently.

Coffee wasn't hot, just warm ! Table was dirty and leather armchairs were filthy. Don't think I'll be visiting any time soon.

After ordering my tasteless 'new-blend' cappuccino, I was unimpressed to find the staff throwing scrunched up paper towels at each other INSTEAD of making my coffee. This was not productive. P.S. The table was awfully wobbly. AVOID

This is a chain with a huge reputation but based on my experience at the Alton branch it is as average as Starbucks!Their limited foods are very average and their coffee nothing to shout about. Perhaps they should drop in to the nearby Cafe Nero and try to emulate their far superior coffee!

In Alton the best place for coffee in the morning, for lunch or in the afternoon. Good service. I enjoyed it for a week every day

This Costa is our local and I must say we are lucky to have it!It's quite a big shop with ample seating in front and back. I got here several times a week and am never disappointed.

Loved the iced frappucino here, the restaurant being a chain has no real charm but it sells a very good product!

The double expresso was delightfully robust here, not the watered down version some British cafes serve! The cakes though freshly baked were nothing to rave about.

There's nothing special about Costa in Alton - it's like all the others - but the staff are really polite and genuinely welcoming.

Lets be be honest Costa Coffee is Costa Coffee, what makes these places different is the staff, the people in Alton are great and so we go back again and again, we were in town during a farmers market and a stall was erected outside the shop to sell hot chocolate to passers by to warm them on what was a chilly winters morning, great thinking guys. Keep up the good work.

Costa Coffee has the most dominant position in the town of Alton for coffee shops. To be fair, nationally Costa -imho - probably serves the worst coffee of the Nero, Starbuck, Costa branded coffee shops. However Alton has a large Costa right on the high street and with free parking right outside. so this has become my regular as I am there often before any of the other coffee shops have even thought about opening and I can park right outside for the five minutes it takes to make my coffee.What makes this business different from the others is the attitude of the staff. It is obvious they all get on, it is obvious they enjoy their job and this is borne out by the banter of the regulars. My favourite place for coffee in Alton, especial;ly as they it make my cappa dry, just the way i like it!
