Cosmo Restaurant in Reading

Casual night out, the staff there are very friendly, caring and really feel like family. K really recommend this place. It is a great price for entry and you can eat all you like.

We needed to find a no nonsense Asian buffet where 47 hard working engineers could celebrate the end of a successful 6 month project. Cosmo was ideal with great variety and good quality food, exceeded only by the excellent service by our server, Laila, who ensured that every single member of our team had the absolute best time

Really good value. Very pleasantly surprised. Food was fresh. Kids loved it. A really fun place to take children as there is something for everyone.

Large family went for a special meal which really worked. Everyone had something different and we ate what we wanted. Restaurant was clean and well stocked overall. Ladies helping around the tables had fun attitude which really helped with the kids. Seemed busy and popular. Thank you for looking after us.

I always enjoy eating at Cosmo. Food is plentiful and delicious with plenty of cuisines to choose from (Indian, Thai, Japanese etc) Starters, salads and desserts. A generous choice of a variety of different foods. I can understand why this so popular. Unlimited soft drinks too. The only thing, and I am sorry to have to add this, but feel it is important. I went to get my dessert at the fruit counter and there were 2 young children (boys). They were putting fruit on a stick, one of them was putting grapes on a stick and after a minute, he took the grapes off with his bare hands and threw them back into the grape bowl, I didn’t touch the grapes after seeing this because of hygiene and it was very off putting, I think small children should be supervised by at least one of their parents or an adult, whilst they approach and help themselves with food. Perhaps, just a thought. Maybe you could put a sign up encouraging family members to not leave their young children unattended at a counter?

Food was good. However disappointed at the end of the meal to find out our children are priced at height and not age. We had a tall 10 yr old charged at adult price. They didn’t eat that much considering the table next to us had over weight shorter children that had around 6 servings to my child’s 2. However a short adult that also attended with did not get charged child price, we found this hilarious. Find this very unusual and for this reason will not return.

This evening, I had the worst experience at Cosmo Restaurant in Reading. I booked a table for three people at 8:00 pm, and we arrived at 8:07 pm. Upon arrival, we were told that while food was still available, cooking would stop at 8:30 pm. We were advised to quickly gather all our food and shown to our table. We hadn't even sat down before rushing to the food counters, only to find most of them empty. When I inquired, they assured me they would refill them. I headed to the live counter for some seafood and, after about 10 minutes, found that most of the counters were still empty. Those that did have food offered cold and dry leftovers. Shockingly, main courses like noodles, fish, prawns, and curry were all empty. After waiting patiently for another 15 minutes, the situation hadn’t improved. We were left with limited, subpar leftovers. I approached the manager, who repeated that they were refilling as they cooked. Despite there being 25-30 people still in the restaurant, everyone was scrambling for food. Eventually, they brought out some satay and noodles, but the fish and chicken were still missing. When I asked again, the manager eventually brought some undercooked fish to our table. The noodles, supposedly freshly cooked, were cold and dry. Aside from the chicken satay and the live seafood counter, the remaining starters and main courses were cold, dry, and of extremely poor quality. Moving to the dessert section, the selection was limited to a few cakes and ice cream. Most fruits were gone, except for some grapes and musk melon. The cakes were hard and stale, the churros were inedible, and we ended up with just a few pieces of fruit and some ice cream. I spent around £60 on what turned out to be a terrible meal of leftover food. This experience raises serious questions: Why accept bookings at 8:00 pm if cooking stops at 8:30 pm? Why keep the restaurant open on weekdays if you can’t supply food? The staff did little more than apologize while busy cleaning and closing up, despite guests still being present. Cosmo completely ruined my special evening. I would warn others to be cautious about visiting Cosmo on weekdays for dinner, as you’re likely to find no food or only leftovers.

As the Cosmo in Bournemouth had been so lovely, I came back to give the Reading one another chance. The layout of this restaurant is irritating, with the arriving customers having to push their way through the buffet queues in order to be seated. The tables are way too close together, we were unable to get to ours without asking the families around us to move each time. Of course, you’re all getting up and down to go and get food, so everyone is constantly being inconvenienced by the other diners in their section. As you go round the buffet, the sneeze guards are fitted so low that it’s a real challenge to flip open the metal lids of the serving trays. It was the start of lunchtime but all the ‘hot’ food was cold and sauces had a thick skin. Popadoms and bhajis were bendy rather than crunchy. Vegetarian options were very, very limited. I found two main dishes (one Chinese dish - tofu and aubergine, one Indian dish - a potato curry). There was also Margarita Pizza.. All three of these were all fairly bland. I’m not including side dishes such as broccoli and chips as specifically ‘vegetarian’ in my count of options, because those are accompaniments. Something to go WITH a meal. Currently, 16% of the UK population follows a meat-free diet (8.6 million people). And yet, there are still restaurants that ignore them. Everything in the Reading Cosmo seemed to have meat dumped in it. That’s got to be a localised management failing, because other branches of Cosmo boast a much wider selection of meat-free main dishes. Plenty of Indian and Chinese dishes are vegetarian and don’t need to be adapted in any way. Desserts… a handful of nondescript gelatinous squares that tasted like air freshner. A very cold chocolate fountain. A soft serve ice cream machine. They were all kind of icky. What was good? The staff were friendly and the food was replenished quickly. They really need to revisit the vegetarian selection and the seating layout here.

Came here for my birthday in the evening with family.quite busy as usual.food is ok but not a lot of variety.i looked forward to having the char sui pork but there wasn't any when I asked a miserable member of staff told me there was non left.and it was only 7pm couldn't they have cooked more??. Surely as a paying full price for evening meal they should have this included.i was not best pleased.all staff members seems miserable and not friendly.when I asked if they were restocking food they looked annoyed.what really took the mick was the desserts.hardly any cakes were left and the ones that were .were not appetising as a customer paying full price this is totally unacceptable. I asked again if they were bringing out anymore cakes and the answer was no bearing in mind it was only 8.30pm.not even closing time.i also notice on one of my cakes that there appears to be MOULD on it.i was disgusted.how they do not care to serve customers mouldy cakes is beyond me !.I reported this back to the manger who did not care!.that is a health and safety violation!.Do not eat here unless you like eatting mouldy food/cakes!

The food tasted terrible. Some of it that was meant to be warm was cold, some tasted like mould or dog food or cardboard even the chocolate fountain. The atmosphere was not nice either it was very squished together even tho I was on a table of 2 I felt very claustrophobic squished next to others in the middle of the room it felt like u was in school lunch hall. There was not a massive selection. The staff was nice. Not worth £25 each

Gobsmackingly delicious. We went at 12 everything was fresh so highly reccomend. Couldn’t get enough down quick enough, like an untamed animal in the wilderness. Highlights include, fresh nann bread, ice cream machine and the robot

Service was very slow; to get our drinks it took 20 minutes from seating, which - when you only have an allocated amount of time for your table and you’ve paid for bottomless drinks you can top up - is less than ideal. The Indian food was not good, which was a real shame as I chose this place based on the fact that half our family prefers Indian and half prefers Chinese, so it was a good solution for a family meal. But the Tarka Dhal was like water; super runny and tasteless. Yet the curries were over-spiced - so really strong tasting - and thick, so less sauce and more paste. However, have rated 4/5 as the rest of the food was really good and really fresh. The Chinese soups were lovely and the Chinese offerings on the whole were incredibly tastey. The desserts on offer are fabulous for the whole family. The restaurant itself feels modern and clean and well looked after. With some care to detail and adjustments, this could be a regular spot for us.

I went here on the 10th Feb with a friend. This had been planned for over a week and we were really looking forward to it having been a few years ago with family. Everything about our experience today was horrendous. Firstly the customer service. One of the staff asked another member of the public to close the door. They don’t hear them and the next thing I hear is the member of staff say “for f*** sake close the close”. I heard customers ask questions of the staff to be told “it’s on the table like I’ve just told you!” Next the food. This was terrible. The rice tasted like microwave rice. The chicken tikka was watery and tasteless. Some of the worst food in a restaurant I have ever tasted. Then during food we were sat next to a family who had paid for the “birthday experience” for their child. They arrived and told the staff whilst sat down and they were told that they don’t do that on a Saturday despite paying for it. Do not visit this place. You are better off saving a fortune and going to MacDonald’s!!

We served dinner in late November 2023 in this location. We were impressed by the variety of the meals. Everything freshly cooked and baked. Dough we had a reservation, we had to wait about 30 minutes above the agreed time in a very small place, with a lot of people.

I’ve read about this restaurant so booked a table. They work on a system that gives you an hour and a half to eat your meal, so it’s no good for a long chatty lunch, less talking more munching. We started on the Chinese stand, the prawns were soft and delicious, sliced beef in black bean sauce was so soft, the noodles were good and well seasoned, the meat fell off the ribs, all really hot too. They had aromatic duck and pancakes. Next we tried the Indian selection. Lamb rogan josh was ok, not very spicy, the chicken tikka was soft and the sauce was just ok, to be honest this was not as good as the Chinese dishes. Mexican spicy chicken was a wow, tender with an excellent sauce, also the chilli con carne was really good. The roast dinner selection was very basic, thin gravy, not crispy potatoes, but impressive turkey ! I wouldn’t make this a go to. They also do so much more, Thai, Sushi etc, we just didn’t have the room for them this time. You need to book, it gets mad busy, nice to see the cleaning is constant, excellent on the hygiene front. Overall I think the Chinese selection was really good, definitely the best. For £22 it’s not too bad, you can go back for more, especially good for hungry bodies. Will return.

The restaurant itself is located awkwardly in Reading Town centre on the one-way system. As this was our first visit, we were unaware of the lack of parking resulting in three laps around the ring road and undoubtedly a parking ticket for driving in a restricted area. The closest car park we found was Q-Park, which was approximately 8 minutes on foot from the restaurant. Having arrived 30 minutes after our designated booking due to parking issues, we were warmly greeted by the host and shown to our table by the little robot, which was a real novelty that the kids loved. We were seated on a table at the back of the restaurant uncomfortably close to the next table as they made as much use of the available space as possible. A polite waiter took our order and invited us to get our food. When we returned to the table, we noticed that we had received an incorrect drinks order, which wasn't a problem. However, trying to rectify it with a rather brash, presumably supervisor, was a little uncomfortable There was a wonderful array of dishes covering all options. Each varied plate of food was hot and delicious, and the atmosphere relaxed and unpretentious. The kids enjoyed the sweet treats and felt comfortable collecting their own food. A friendly young waitress was on hand to answer any questions, and our plates were quickly cleared, prompting us to go up again. The mocktails were delicious, and the refill drink options were ideal for the kids. 2 adults, 2 children (7 & 10) to eat and drink, came to a little over £80 which I consider good value based on this experience. Overall, other than the parking situation, I was very impressed and satisfied with our visit. We will be returning.

My family and I visited this restaurant the booking system is automated and then says they will be in contact, This didn’t happen so we called again and bypassed the system and spoke to a lady who was very abrupt. She said we should book three the system we said we tried but nobody called us back, she then reluctantly said she had a table for us proceeded to put it in a robot to take us 10ft to the next staff member. We were shown to a table we were hungry so collected our food and started to eat I had some Chinese very basic no taste, I then tried the Indian hardly any dishes I had lamb rogan awful. My wife wanted fresh food from the grill she said was lovely but they ran out of gas so stopped cooking. This was rectified after about 20 mins by this time we had filled up on other food. Very average food for £22 per head.

This place is exactly what it says on the tin. Reasonable quality food at a decent price. We really enjoyed it and would definitely return. The staff were helpful and pleasant. Drinks well priced.

Food is plentiful but poor quality. Vegetables were either over cooked and sloppy (carrots, courgettes) or undercooked and almost raw (parsnips). I had to ask several times leading to an arguement with the cook for a fresh slice of gammon joint (available on the side but you cannot help yourself to this) as the piece already cut was fatty and swimming in a pool of fat. The cook demanded I have this slice. He would not allow me to have a second slice and he then went back to playing on his mobile phone. The beef in black bean sauce was chewy. The puddings were awful, imagine the cheapest sponge and cream cakes you could buy at a budget supermarket. Chef was rude, some other staff were rude but some waitresses were polite. We had booked the table for 1.75 hours but a note was put on the table telling us to leave after 1 hour. It wasn't too much of an issue for us as the food was so bad so we didn't eat much andcwere happy to leave quickly. The tables were crammed together so closely that you would struggle to pass between them unless you are very slim. Its not a pleasant or fine dining experience. It's more like an all you can eat school canteen. Although my children eat better food at school. On a positive note, the drinks we paid extra for were huge.

They were running 30 minutes late, we were still given our allocated 1:45hr, from the time the table was booked for. We hadn’t even all finished dessert and were given the bill and told to vacate the table. Low grade food, service and cleanliness. Won’t be recommending or returning

Travelled to Reading yesterday to see my son and over the past few months have eaten here and really quite enjoyed it. Yesterday was different though. After arriving my son phoned the restaurant and made a table reservation for 1600 hrs. We were a few mins late and the place was busy as we arrived but we were seated At approximately 1615 hrs which again was fine. We then ordered drinks after chatting for 5 - 10 mins and walked up to get our first plate of food a short while later. When we returned I noticed a ticket tucked into our menu holder stating we would need to vacate our table by 1745 hours. Completely unimpressed I ignored this and said to my son, we will just enjoy our food and conversation and leave when we had finished. At 1745 hrs pretty much on the dot we were approached by a waiter who left a receipt on the table and informed me I had 5 mins to vacate. I remained calm, but I was boiling inside. Never have I experienced a time allowance on a table in a restaurant before. I had just ordered another drink we were still eating from the main menu and hadn’t even yet had dessert. Disgusted I said we wouldn’t be leaving and was informed the manager would come and speak with me. The manager then arrived and created his argument by informing me it was in the website regarding the time allowance. My son informed him we had not even been on a website to book but had phoned the automated line to book our reservation. I added that there was also nothing clearly marked in the foyer to explain this as had I seen this we would not have eaten here. What annoyed me the most was that this man appeared to have no understanding of the ridiculous situation, the fact there were now from what I could see approx 5-6 vacated tables and he was pushing for my son and I to leave our 2 seater table. The fact that the foyer had nothing printed clearly advising of this nor was there any information passed by staff prior to being seated again advising of this, just a receipt that is placed on your table after you have ordered your drinks. He continued to try and justify, but unfortunately it just smacked of trying to achieve the absolute most revenue whilst achieving minimal customer service. I informed him we wouldn’t be leaving and we would leave when we had finished, which after getting dessert we did and won’t be coming back. Sort it out Cosmo

Still one of the better buffets. Good range and variety of dishes. Popular dishes do run out but mostly re-appear after a while. Expect it to be busy. Value for money just about ok given recent price increases

Food was ok not that great. I’ve been to Cosmo before and the food was much better, well cook and fresh. Only thing I enjoyed was the desserts.

Amazing place. Visiting the area for our wedding anniversary and couldn't decide where to go. Thought we would try this oit. Food was plenty and tasty. Lots of choices and al1ays being refilled. The dessert selection was vast and thr cinnamon churros were excellent. All the staff were helpful and friendly, a lovely atmosphere. Bibek was helpful and polite, apologising for is having to pay ahead of eating which we had read about anyways. Will def go back when we are down this way again!

Been here once, cheap mass cooked food. Not really much taste to it to be honest. They claim to slice you fresh meat to order however it's just aloud of fat. Wouldn't hurry back.

My previous experience of a different Cosmo restaurant was not very good so I ventured here with a little trepidation, but was pleasantly surprised by the experience. We bboked a table in advance and were able to get seated straight away. The restaurant was busy, but the drinks arrived quickly, and we had little problem accessing the food, including the teppanyaki. this however was what i dropped a star for because you are limited to two items only, which I felt was a bit mean. The food was topped up regularly and was tasty.

Excellent staff very helpful and friendly. Such a variety of food was shocked by that. Very yummy, and lots of chocolate of dessert including ice cream machine and chocolate fountain. Will defo be going again when in the area.

I was there on my friends birthday. I was surprised how clean is there. 100% Covid safety. Big sortment of different food. Very friendly staff. Every time to be there is like little celebration s for tummy. Highly recommend.

Lovely food, service and covid practices.I wasn't sure how the buffet style would work but it's very well done by Cosmo and hopefully other buffet restaurants will take note. There's a one way system in place for the food and gloves are provided to serve up the food yourself. A little patience is needed as you wait for the person in front to put on their gloves (they are tricky) and make their way around the food. The refill drinks have now gone but one of the jugs of soft drink that are now on offer was plentiful for me and my partner.I particularly loved the satay chicken, ribs and of course the duck and pancakes.Will definitely return after lockdown.

When I heard that Cosmo was open I was a little apprehensive due to Covid however after reading all the measures put in place I’ve decided to book a table for 6 with the family and see for my self how really safe the measures are.The safety measures are explained before you are sat down and you just feel comfortable and safe all the time you are there. There’s few people that forget to put on their mask while getting the food but staff are constantly on the look out so it doesn’t take long for them to be told. The staff are all helpful and although the food selections have been reduced it was definitely enough food to satisfy all taste buds. Food was hot, fresh and DELICIOUS. I definitely be back with the family and recommend to the rest of friend and family. WELL DONE COSMO!!! you have done a good job.

Me dijeron que tendría que pagar por mi hija de 20 meses, ¡lo que personalmente encontré bastante ridículo! ¡No conozco ningún otro buffet que cobre por niños menores de 3 años! De todos modos, la comida estaba muy por debajo del estándar, nadie en el restaurante parecía estar realmente disfrutando de su comida, podíamos escuchar a otros clientes quejarse de la mala calidad de la comida. Un cliente se estaba quejando con el camarero de lo fría que estaba la comida, no es que el camarero le prestara mucha atención. ¡El chef estaba caminando solo para tener una discusión completa con una pareja! En general, la experiencia terrible, la comida horrible, el chef y los camareros groseros se aburrieron y apenas registraron nada. . . Evítelo a toda costa, caro a los 15. ¡99 por persona por una selección de comida tan horrible y mínima! ! ! ! Nunca volveré a visitar. Solo le di 1 estrella porque no me dejaría continuar; de lo contrario, ¡lo habría marcado con menos 5 estrellas!

Only ever been at lunchtime but have always enjoyed the wide selection of dishes on offer. The staff are always clearing away used dishes so table always ready for an other plate. The time limit is long enough to eat and drink your fill

This is one of the best buffets in England.The food is really tasty and is a good price.There is a huge selection and something for everyone.I would definitely recommend

Hi, i'd never heard of Cosmo until my wife's Uncle had booked us a table there, and oh my god i was like a kiddie in a sweet factory, it was amazing, so much choice, am not going to list them all but it was just amazing, my wife's cousin youngest boy was there and he tried to eating everything that was there and failed!! would highly recommend this place and also to book as they do accept on the night trade but you will have to queue esp at weekends, and because they are so busy they do employ a maximum 1h 45m stay which can be reduced to 1:30 or less if it's even more busy!

Took the children as a half term treat wasn’t expecting it to be fantastic but it really surprised me. It was clean, food was hot and with it being busy it was freshly filled regularly. Desserts were especially my favourite. Will return.

We came for dinner tuesday night, myself and my family for my daughters birthday. Only managed to get my new trip advisor up and running today, otherwise I would have written a review there and then. The choices of food was incredible! The waiting staff were very attentive and the whole atmosphere was amazing! So a very well done to every single member of staff, what a very enjoyable dinner and we will definitely be returning, great job!!

Went with work colleagues for a Christmas do! Not been before & was not my choice of restaurant. It was as I suspected low quality mass catering food you can pile high on your plate, not my thing at all. Not to say I had a bad evening at all we all had a lot of fun but fair to say from my point of view, you get what you pay for food wise.

Although some of the dishes are not available at lunchtime, it is still very good value. It was busy but staff did well, replacing food almost as soon as it ran out. Our empty plates were also quickly collected. The food is good quality, compared with some buffets, with plenty of choice.

We went in a group at the weekend. Table booked no problem. The place was packed and could not get through the door for a start. Luckly we had a table booked. There is a massive selection of a food available and its all buffet style and you can each as much as you like. The actual food was ok, but must say have some concerns about hygiene but we were fine. It was like eating in a massive works canteen. ! Expensive, staff were running around and they were ok. Will not be going back.
