Good beer, I really enjoyed the live music which gave a great fun atmosphere to the pub.

5 pounds a pint, no food after 7, small space, however, loads of great musicians garther here for open mics, everyone very welcomed

Seen reviews for Sunday roast turned up with no sunday roast on offer as we alcohoics do not drink Alcohol and my sober friend was asked to leave. They done us a real favour as found a much bettter venue with free drinks for drivers we wont recomend this venue very clicky for non locals. We dont undersand that they said inside we could order food to be delivered that would come with drinks. I was off site at the time drinking my 50p can from iceland which i did think it was a not a good thing to have my drink on the premisis so only drink water in any case. So to all AA worldwide members avoid

Lovely pub, very welcoming landlord. Putting on some excellent music nights. Really enjoyed it.

Popped in for a swift pint, sat in a small nook full of leather chairs and old wood...what a cracking establishment 👌🏻

if i could give NO STARS i l would , my girlfirend was subject to homophobic comments and told to leave the girls bathroom , in 2024 i didnt think this would be possible . DISGUSTING BEHAVIOUR !!!

Tasty food in a good portion sizes, quite few options for drinks, staff friendly, nice layout, dance floor separate to bar and tables so music doesn't carry over and you can still sit and have a conversation. Smoking areas could do with an improvement

Went last weekend, it was just the right amount of busy, live music at both ends of the pub, the staff were brilliant and worked hard to keep up with demand.

To be fair went on a quiet night so atmosphere somewhat limited; although music playlist at times incredibly loud. That being said clearly a pub with character/history, good service and reasonable prices.

Went here for an event to see Backbone blues so atmosphere was amazing, great service from the bar staff. Friendly and remembered a large drink order every time, fab!!

Love it, beautiful pub and really enjoyed the atmosphere.

I had the best breakfast I've had in a long time and I could share it with my dog. Usually she will not eat anything apart from a bit of sausage. It really was great! Black pudding, bacon, lovely sausages, 3 eggs and toast with coffee. All amazing :-)

Get the Mac and cheese croquettes they are amazing

The pub was packed which was great to see. Called in to see a band & it was a nice evening

Smashing little place tucked out of the way in Reading.

Went for a concert unfortunately the main microphone sound was a bit low so you couldn't hear what the bands were singing about. A real shame as that what I came for

Beer and wine reasonably priced. Good suntrap outside. Shame that the snacks we had were 2 months past their best before date.

Never been before despite living in Reading all my life, will not turn down an opportunity to go there again. Nice atmosphere and lovely entertainment.

Went to this venue for a music gig. As a pub reasonable selection of beers including 3 draft real ales. The actual music room was okay but seating venue squashed in and claustrophobic. Stage very low so anybody a little short has a problem seeing the artists perform.

Reasonable choice of real ales. Went for a music gig which was very good but the 'hall/venue" seats were tightly packed in making it difficult for myself with mobility problems tmo get in and out. Also stage was low so view of artistes was restricted.

Held my husbands 50th birthday party there, they went out of the way to help and worked so hard, just wanted to say a huge thanks to all the staff that helped making it a great time xxxx

Brilliant pub good music friendly atmosphere

Cute pub a little out of town, good range of rum, gin and other spirits as well as the usual beers etc.

great atmosphere...give it a go

Unfortunately this great pub has now gone "cashless". I prefer the choice to pay cash too. After all it is the national currency. Business like this are walking blindly into a future which is called Digital Communism where everyone's movements and transactions are 100% monitored. If that does concern you then it should and it eventually will, but then it'll be too late.

Excellent atmosphere on Fridsy (Open Mic) and Saturday (Bands) nights.

Amazing gem in Reading, went last weekend with a couple of friends. Very friendly bar staff, good priced beers and a large adjacent room where I've bands play. The owner is a friendly chap who will happily chat with you.

I dont remember coming here at all. They havent done me any wrong though

My nephew and I spent three hours in the butler on Tuesday evening, even though it was a quiet night the staff and customers were very friendly and attentive it still was a great atmosphere and we throughly enjoyed ourselves 👍🏼❤️

Chef stevie’s Caribbean food is excellent. We will be back to try the rest of the menu soon! Don’t let the loud tv and dark room put you off.

Excellent Beer and most welcoming management.

This place is dire , the barman is so miserable he sours the beer, the ladies toilets had urine all over the seats like it was a man's toilet, and that's when it was empty!

Proper pub with proper staff & clientele. Live music thrown in & a great Caribbean restaurant/takeaway operating from it. Just watch out for a scotch bonnet in the curry

It's nice but they have a limited range of wine and a double gin is served in a small glass with no lime.

Came here to watch the Euros Finals, and what an atmosphere. The staff were friendly and they had made the area safe, considering the covid restrictions. Recommend this pub if you want to enjoy live music, some amazing BBQ food.

Enjoyed the Beer in good company at the rear of the pub in the spacious yard on super sweltering evening. Lots of Benches with parasols, friendly staff and locals.

Went there for the England semi-final. Service was extremely slow - I can only imagine they were prioritising the regulars. Food is Carribbean - by the time someone came & asked what we wanted (at the bar we were told it was table service) we were told kitchen had closed - though mysteriously it opened again later so we did get some. Was fine for the price.

The Butler is a pub with very well priced drinks and a great atmosphere! Have loved coming down with my family and my friends, and always appreciate the great customer service when I do!

I first used this pub in the early 60's, when it was Butlers wine vaults. It was a good pub then and it hasn't changed. Good beer, good food (although limited), good music and friendly staff. ( and they have one of my tiller pins ! )

Fantastic night! Live band were amazing. Fair price drinks.

Although crowded and hard to get a drink the atmosphere more than made up for that. An "older" crowd than your normal pub.
