Clare and Ian (plus Andy as front of house / chief mixologist) were a superb hosts for a memorable meal on our holiday to Skye. Clare was super helpful when making our advanced booking, accommodating my husband’s dietary requirements, helping to select the best day for our meal, very helpful and chatty. The food was sensational, starting with an outstanding smoked foam amuse bouche that complimented the Talisker wiskey sour cocktail we were supping perfectly. Clare’s passion for wine extends to a very comprehensive wine menu, and her guidance enabled us to select an amazing wine to complement our meal. The fish course of trout was my favourite, while the main Lamb was perfection and my husband’s preferred course. All in all it was a lovely relaxed evening with food that is clearly worth Michelin Guide status. Unlike other Michelin Guide or Starred restaurants our meal was very homely and not at all stuffy, served near the homely log burner. We had planned to walk back to our accommodation ( only a couple of miles or so away) but due to the inclement weather we very grateful for Clare’s kind offer to drop us home. Such a lovely touch to too off such a special evening!

Location and most of the food were great. The prices and the holier than thou arrogance were poor. Not just what was said but how. Over 90 pounds for 2 meals of 3 courses and a coffee each was wallet shredding.

We had a generally very nice experience here, but truthfully, it was my pescatarian friends least memorable meal out during our 11 nights in Scotland. Whilst I had Venison as a main, she was served a simple herb risotto, which had been made with pearl barley, and no other protein as substitute. Also, chanterelles, whilst delicious and in season, we're served on every course except dessert, which, sadly, felt a bit unimaginative. Bread was absolutely delicious though! Clare was very knowledgeable about the wines, and very passionate about the food, which I appreciated, and Andy was also very nice too. Clare also went out of her way after service to give us some valuable information about local attractions, which was extremely kind of her, especially as I know how hard she must work. Overall, a good experience, definitely the best in Elgol, just not quite as amazing as we'd hoped.

Four courses absolutely packed with flavour made from the best local ingredients and presented beautifully. The wine list is mainly Burgundian and all the better for it. And six stars for the homebaked brioche. We started with chicken and tarragon veloute dressed with ceps and white truffle oil which was impossibly flavoursome. Some real effort here! Fish course was perfectly poached skate and local squat lobsters (aka spinies), finished with lovage foam and served with handmade tagliatelle dressed with pesto made from garden herbs. Again so tasty, but the fish, especially the cooking of the fish, shone through. Meat course was braised leg of lamb and canon of lamb cooked medium-rare (so lamb two ways) with a strong sweet ratatouille, nicely crispy shallot tarte tatin and a silky turnip puree. Again an explosion of flavour and texture presented beautifully. Desert was a generous helping of coffee and Talisker souffle (very moreish) where the whisky was the star accompanied by pineapple flower-infused ice cream. Lovely meal in an incredible part of Scotland and all the staff are friendly and super informative. Surely a star beckons.

My (now) wife and I stayed and dined here for our wedding which we had down on Elgol beach in late August. The entire experience from start to finish was absolutely incredible. The "An Nead" (the nest) thatched cottage was the perfect cozy retreat after our long days out exploring Skye. It is expertly put together with lots of attention to detail. We also took the four course menu at the restaurant three times in a row and each night we didn't think it could get better but it did. We were impressed by the local sourcing of ingredients, high quality of preparation and the nuance of each dish. The wine list is extensive and personally researched by the ever-so-kind owners, and you really feel like they are welcoming you as old friends or family into their home. The location is just five minutes drive from Elgol beach, which is also the jumping off point for boat trips to Loch Coruisk. At first the boat trip was a second thought for me, but we quickly realized that it is a once in a lifetime experience and a major attraction on Skye. The wildlife, the ocean air, and hiking around a lake that has stood alone untouched for millennia is such a breathtaking experience. On the whole, we were extremely pleased with our time at Coruisk house and it will always hold a special place in our hearts. I would highly recommend dining, staying or preferably both whether for a special occasion or just as an opportunity to get away from it all, you will not regret it!!

Surrounding area is beautiful, very remote and spacious. Setting of restaurant is small and cosy with nice boutique finishes. Atmosphere in the restaurant would benefit with a little music of any sort, we felt we had to whisper and could hear everything going on. The service was very polite and friendly. We arrived at 7pm and had our first course (bread) around an hour after arriving, menu was all set so there was no delay in ordering etc. The rest of the courses arrived in similar style, very long waits in between and for our four course meal we had dessert at around 9:40. The food itself was mostly tasty but underwhelming if we are honest. Being a Michelin recognised restaurant would suggest some more technical dishes or a better balance of flavour. Highlight being the fresh bread and soup, lowlight being the fish course of smoked trout, pea and asparagus tartlet and Parmesan crisp. Almost no acidity to the dish and Parmesan overpowering all. Overall for the price and expectation our meal did not deliver and we were very keen to leave even before dessert was finally served.

We had an absolutely amazing two night stay here. We stayed in the Steadings which was a two bed with sitting room, shower room and bathroom. The lodgings were lovely. Beautiful colours and lovely accent pieces with wonderfully comfortable beds and a great roll top bath. The food was out of this world. We had dinner one evening and two breakfasts. The food in the evening was one of the nicest meals I’ve had. The breakfasts were also divine. Everything fresh and of super quality. We travelled to fort william after second day and I was still full early evening. The location was beautiful. Quiet with wonderful scenery and my hubby and the kids had some amazing walks. But have to admit the hosts made this stay. Clare and Iain are not only extremely talented but wonderfully welcoming. They take time to get to know the guests and you leave feeling like you have stayed with friends. Can’t wait to come back

We had sublime rich fish soup, lightly hot smoked salmon with asparagus & bearnaise, beef fillet & braised ox tail with morrel, fennel & celeriac gratin & fondant potato and to finish the most delicious coffee & whisky soufflé with cardamom ice cream & almond sable. My wife and I traveled to Coruisk House after our wedding in Wester Ross in early December. Our photographer was a friend of the owners, Clare and Iain, and had arranged for us a special dinner reservation at the end of our honeymoon on Skye. It turned out to be the most romantic end to our fairy-tale wedding. We had a long drive on single track roads via taxi to get to the restaurant, and it had been quite icy the night of our dinner. Upon entering we were seated at our table in a lovely small room with candles and flowers on our table, and a small fire nearby. The 4 course dinner was exquisite! Lobster bisque, a Halibut mousseline that was SUPERB, venison, and a delicious chocolate soufflé. I must say that Clare's wine recommendations were absolutely first rate!!! She suggested a red and white French Burgundy that were the PERFECT accompaniment to the meal! Her knowledge of fine wines is quite impressive, and I would highly advise seeking her personal suggestions. The restaurant has a quaint, romantic atmosphere. Due to the weather and time of year we were not fortunate enough to have savored the views from the nearby beach at Elgol, but were blessed on the drive back with breathtaking images of the snow covered Cuillin mountains by moonlight on either side of Loch Slapin. It was a truly magical way to end the evening! The food and hospitality were just five star. Clare and Iain have created a remote paradise of fine wine and dining in one of the world's most perfect settings here. Highly recommended!

Coruisk House is run by people who really care … about food, hospitality, and their region. The room was beautifully appointed (we stayed in the small one and it was a good size - we are Londoners - the shower is small). The pre dinner cocktails were tasty and well presented. Dinner was excellent quality and interesting. The first and second course took a long time to arrive but this is fresh and carefully prepared and presented food with good service. People out for a dinner experience in a group will probably appreciate the longer pacing.

The drive to the Coruisk House is most spectacular, the road winds around Lock Coruisk where we we passed the Skye marble quarry and had to negotiate the road with the cattle, sheep, and other cars on this one-lane road. It was so beautiful and quiet, I wished we had spent more time in this area. We enjoyed a five-course meal at the Coruisk House Restaurant owned and operated by Ian and Claire. Ian is the chef and every course was fantastic and artfully plated. If we had been at home, I may have licked the plates clean! Claire was attentive and made wonderful wine selections to pair with each course. The restaurant is located in a lovely house and we were fortunate to sit in the living/dining room which had a fireplace. The setting was intimate and cozy. Next time we will stay in their hotel so we can spend more time in this area of Skye and immerse ourselves in the beauty and hospitality of this very special place.

It amuses me that perhaps the most over-employed adjective nowadays is ‘stunning’. Literally everything is described as stunning. It’s a wonder that people don’t seem to be walking around in a permanent daze, eyes glazed and drooling. The other over-hyped phrase that has crept into everyday advertisements and such like is the word ‘experience’. Nowadays we are told we can expect a wonderful shopping experience, bathing experience, banking experience etc. etc. when in truth such labelled ‘experiences’ are everyday and generally mundane. The Isle of Skye, however, can justifiably be termed "stunning" in the literal sense. There are views and vistas which are genuinely outstanding. What’s more, much of the spectacular scenery does not require Olympian levels of fitness to access; a good thing in my case. Yes, there are midges if there’s still and damp conditions, but a good breeze saved us major harassment from these odious little pests. Sometimes the single track roads can be a magnet for tourists who are understandably too stunned to concentrate on their driving, and yes the island is getting pricey. It was our delight then, that we were able to keep a sharp focus on the road and negotiate, without incident, the 13 miles single track road to the Coruisk House hotel for dinner one night. Self-described as "a restaurant with rooms", owners Iain and Clare have been plying their trade for 13 years at Coruisk House and they richly deserve the many plaudits that have been bestowed. Iain is a remarkable self-taught chef and his cooking is fine in the classic French style. His ingredients are locally sourced and of the best possible quality. His set menu is intelligent, cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. Hand on heart, I have had many meals in one star Michelin restaurants that could not hold a candle to Iain's cooking. Rather than recite our menu (which is composed by Iain daily, depending on what is in season) I will just summarize it by saying that each of the four courses were superb. The lamb was stunning (with one of it's accompaniments being an amazing shallot pastry tart). The meal was a genuine experience. Worthy of mention is the excellent wine list - a hefty tome with a predominantly Burgundian bias, curated by Iain from his experience in Burgundy. Given the twisty 13 mile single track access, those who are not overnighting in one of the five rooms can choose from a small selction of wines by the glass. Such quality justifies the price - currently the menu is £65 per head and excludes wine or beverages. You could really ramp up the evening's tally by partaking some of Iain's exceptional burgundies, but there are more affordable options too. The only thing to point out is that all the courses are cooked while you dine; therefore expect to take quite a time over dinner. This would not be a restaurant to go to if you are in a hurry. Take your time and enjoy!

MORE AT TripAdvisor

We booked the Coruisk House months in advance, and paid in full for two nights, for our first trip to Scotland. We would arrive on my birthday. We had read the reviews, and knew the owners were a bit fussy about rules. After a long day of hiking around the Isle of Skye, we arrived after the stated check-in time of 16:00. Clare, the owner, met us at the door, and sheepishly told us that our room was not ready - delay with the laundry. We were asked to sit in a common area (most uncomfortable furniture), and were offered tea while we waited in complete silence (original wait time was 5 minutes which lapsed into 30 minutes). While we waited, three dogs raced into the room running toward us, barking. Clare's husband looked in after a minute or so and asked, "You ok with the dogs?". No...they were jumping on us, licking my phone, and scrounging for the fudge she had on the table. Ian didn't introduce himself to us or welcome us. Clare disappeared, doors banging as they went about their business as we sat and waited for our room. We were finally led to our room. Pictures online make it look like a boutique lodging. It was not. We realize that the location is remote and the home is old, but our bed literally sagged in the middle, was hard as a rock and squeaked every time you moved. There was no cell service or WiFi in our room. We had to either sit in the hallway, or go down to the dining room to connect. Also, we were told that the previous guest had damaged our shower mechanism, so the utmost care was needed to use it. We then proceeded to dinner. They offer two seatings. One at 7 pm and one at 8 pm. We were the first people seated. Clare stated to show up at 6:45 pm for a complimentary glass of Prosecco, which we did. Clare was not present, but Kristine, our server, was delightful. She explained the menu and took our order. We then spent an hour waiting for our starters (soup, which would have been prepared in advance, and one scallop on a spoonful of risotto). The soup, which was to be a chanterelle mushroom soup was nothing more than a roasted garlic soup and overly salty. The scallop was fine, but I can cook the same at home in about 2 minutes. Our mains, both venison, took another hour to arrive. The first service was just us and another table of four. Six other people booked the 8 p.m. dinner time. I had mentioned that we were excited to be staying at their inn for my birthday. There was no mention of it. As we waited endlessly for our food, we looked out the window to see Clare drive up with her three dogs in the back of her car. Apparently, dinner service is not a priority. She then put on an apron and helped Kristine deal with their full house of customers.I would have loved to try their desserts, especially while celebrating a birthday, but ultimately gave up and went to our room to look for lodging some other place the following night. The cost, £38 for our starter and one main, per person, was way overpriced. They upcharge as well for a few slices of bread or a cheese course. And, a cup of coffee was £5. Breakfast was disappointing as well. Ian's "famous" granola was soft, not crunchy. The fruit was on the verge of rotting (soft strawberries and blackberries). Clare's "famous" bread was....well, just bread. Running a B&B, as a couple, there was no attempt on their part to make their guests feel welcome. Every interaction with them felt so awkward as if we were imposing on their daily life. And, not one piece of furniture in this entire inn was comfortable. We couldn't wait to leave, and ultimately ate the cost of a night's lodging just to get out.

The first thing to note is that we came to Coruisk House a little apprehensively because the reputation of the owner preceded her. It's really bizarre seeing her responding to comments so defensively and publicly and really does not to her any favours at all. We were very wary of Clare when we were there, for fear of her kicking up a fuss should we dare to give any feedback! The positives: Our room was lovely, a really cosy place to put your head down for the night. Breakfast was wonderful, particularly the granola/muesli. However, to call this place a restaurant with rooms is well, well off the mark. It's a great little B&B but the dinner offering seriously needs work if it's to be considered a decent restaurant within its own right. Firstly, it's painfully overpriced and I fear the owners are aware that it's the only place to really eat in the area if you're staying overnight. Two courses for £39 (plus a laughable £3.50 for bread) would be reasonable in a London restaurant or even elsewhere in Skye if you were eating great food but unfortunately that's not what you get at Coruisk House. The scallop starter was indeed delicious, but really very small for half of a £40 meal with no bread offered. It really is one scallop with two mouthfuls of barley risotto. The cod main however was incredibly odd. A massive lump of fish which had seemingly been pan fried on the skin (nice and crispy) and then steamed as the flesh was pretty tasteless and soggy. That, with an array of fussy, confusing and way over salty accompaniments, some "Julienne vegetables" (i.e very thin cut chips) and a completely unnecessary tasteless tempura. By the time we ate, we were starving - even though there were fewer than 6 people dining and they had taken our order (one of only two main course options) an hour previously. We couldn't help feeling that, by dressing the menu up with choice words and relying on great quality produce, the owners were hiding behind the fact that the chef clearly isn't trained. Yes, he could probably cook a great Sunday roast but in no way is Ian (the owner) a talented, upmarket chef. He is way out of his depth and they would do far better serving unfussy, hearty meals with great produce. The atmosphere was bizarre, silent (why no music?) and with every other couple dining seemingly also slightly scared of Clare and whispering to each other about the food. I'm afraid we did the same, I'd rather have tired to enjoy my disappointing meal in peace than dare tell her how we felt.

As a holiday treat we booked a meal one evening at Coruisk House. A small menu but Wow, what quality and service to echo all the other great reviews. Yes it may be a little pricey (3 courses around £50) to but you get what you pay for. Clare was professional and charming and as we had travelled from West Sussex where she lived, we had much to talk about. As well as the wine we can recommend the huge selection of gin! A lovely treat for us that was worth every penny and added to our fab holiday memories of Elgol and Skye. Thank you Clare and Iain.

For our 3rd visit to Scotland and Isle of Skye we decided to seek out the very best restaurants. Coruisk house falls within that category. It seems well regarded with locals and has a great reputation for using fresh ingredients. The presentation is simple but the flavours were wonderful. It is a small restaurant, limited in size but that gives the restaurant an intimate feel. Well worth a visit.

Ian and Clare - thank you! Superb food, a beautiful room (and, my goodness, that bath!), and extensive knowledge of walks, tours, galleries and things to do in the area provided with obvious first-hand knowledge and great enthusiasm. Ian’s home-made muesli was the best we had the whole trip (and beat the Three Chimneys). Clare’s excellent wine recommendations were spot on, and well researched. Really amazing and very personalised experience.

Because of all the positive reviews, we were really looking forward to our visit to Coruisk House, but we left quite disappointed. We felt the choices were limited, and the meal, for what we got, was overpriced. Yes, it's a nice place but we didn't feel that we were really made that welcome. I'm not sure if it wasn't our type of place or, if management thought we didn't fit the guest profile. Location is lovely.

A small family gathering of 8 were beautifully accommodated by Clare and Iain at Coruisk House on their last evening of the season. They were happy to oblige our food preferences of scallops and venison. The restaurant was beautifully furnished, warm and inviting. The meal was not rushed and started with Clare's own home-made bread. The first choice of white wine to go with the scallops was not available but Clare's recommendation was spot on to go with double-dived Sconser scallops with a mint beurre blanc. Local Skye venison then followed, beautifully tender and delightfully presented. A lovely meal, beautifully served and could not be faulted.

Before we book a place we normally look at the TA reviews including any negatives ones. Before booking here we did the same and can honestly say that we did not recognise the place described in the poor reviews. From the moment you enter and the warm welcome this place is a gem. The location near to the end of a 15 mile single track road might not be for everyone but, for us, it actually enhanced the whole stay. This is a small boutique hotel with only very few rooms - ours was well appointed and very comfortable. Dinner is a must with short menu of wonderful choices based upon mainly locally sourced produce (I believe the menu changes most nights, though we only stayed one night); breakfast was equally divine also with home made breads. Clare, the owner along with her husband, was lovely to chat with about their story and the locality. Whilst there, go down to Elgol harbour the start/finish point for sea trips and a landing port for local fisherman

This restaurant is staffed by the couple who own it and it is clearly a labor of love and fun. Located "at the end of the road," you get here by taking a 14 mile drive from Broadford, past the Cullins, grazing sheep, tiny cottages and splendid loch views. The menu is somewhat "set," offering a choice between 2 main dishes which are based on seasonal locally sourced game, fish and/or fowl. The price is about 2/3rds of what you'd pay at Kinloch Lodge or The Three Chimneys (the superstar class that Coruisk House belongs in) and the portions are more generous. Two of us had venison (melted in your mouth) and the other two devoured the fish. The restaurant offers both a very nice "house" select wine and an excellent, limited, listing of finer wines. Spacious, lit with twinkling lights and candles, whitewashed and decorated with natural, neutral bits of this and that--all very personal. Service was perfect, friendly and quiet. The courses were paced for leisurely dining, no rushing. Everything about Coruisk House has been chosen to please the eye and the appetite--the owners are dedicated to making great food and pleasing their diners. They clearly love what they do, making it a total treat to spend time (and money) here. This one IS worth a journey!

I just want to say ignore the two recent ridiculous reviews below these people clearly have no appreciation for quality food and service. The fact that the menu is limited is testament to the conviction the owner Claire has in the quality and execution of the food served. From booking to leaving the whole process was both friendly and efficient and during the meal interaction was perfect with nothing to complain about. In my reviews I always like to leave some constructive criticism however on this occasion I simply cannot find anything to say that would improve upon the perfection I experienced. Whilst on the island we ate at Three Chimneys and Scorrybreac in Portree both very good. Claire is clearly passionate about baking which is great to see and I wish her all the best in her bread making courses. The friendly Labrador is also lovely if you are lucky to meet her. The bill was approx £137 for three courses, wine, whisky and beers for two people. Great value and a memorable evening. We were staying in Mary's Cottages next door which was lovely to walk back to.

We booked this B&B as we eloped and got married on the shores of Loch Coruisk, with an Independent Celebrant, her husband and a photographer. Please do not let this review put you off getting married there, as the location, and literally everyone we met, made us feel welcoming and amazing on our special day. However we cannot say the same for the customer service in the B&B itself from the owner Clare. My partner and I are pretty laid back and don't let things get to us so we just brushed the bad customer service off but it left a bad taste in our mouth, and would not wish it on anyone else either as a guest or married couple. We arrived the day before so that we could be up early for our wedding. We first came across one of the owners "Clare" (apparently it's Clare and Iain, but Iain never made an appearance to introduce himself as the chef). The owner wasn't nasty, she had a smile on her face and explained it's a more "homely" experience they are trying to create rather than a strict B&B/restaurant. We booked well in advance (months and paid up-front), but when we showed up she didn't know what we were actually there for, and had to look it up. Making us feel a bit awkward as we were a bit nervous in the first place, and overall pretty unwelcome, as if we weren't the kind of clientele she wanted for her B&B.We got shown to our room, it was a 4 poster bed (I know, you can't exactly complain) but the left hand side of the bed seemed to be broken and I felt like I was sleeping in a hammock. I brought this up when my partner was getting her make up done the next day from a makeup artist (who again was lovely) with the owner but she said it's because the cottage is sloped? But no invitation to actually resolve the problem, and just ignored it!We knew from researching that we would only have 2 options for main meals (non vegetarian) so this didn't come as a shock. So on the first night there was 3 tables, with people sitting at each. But it just felt awkward as if we all had to whisper as there was no kind of background sound (i.e ambient music, piano music, or even sea sounds if they wanted it to be a sea food restaurant). This just created a tense, weird atmosphere. The next morning, I ran down the stairs to tell Iain who I found in the kitchen area to tell him that my partner doesn't like runny scrambled eggs, he said this would be fine, however we got runny scrambled eggs anyway. Everything was handmade as Clare pointed out as she was preparing bread quite a lot of the time we were there, and it kind of felt like she cared more about the bread than us.As you'll see from their website they do say no dogs, but they have a black Labrador, which is fine with us. But at no point did they ask my wife if it was ok for the dog to click my partners legs whilst the makeup artist done the makeup. Which again is just simple customer service. So our wedding breakfast request was ignored. Surely the wedding meal would be better. We were given the option of seafood or steak. We both chose steak but I don’t really like horseradish or beetroot which is the sauce which came with the meal. So I just asked if it was possible to have some HP sauce (I know it’s not glamorous, but we only had two choices and we knew she had it). But she refused to give us the sauce, and to be honest made us feel like common idiots for asking. During our meal she came back and said it would be ok, but by that time I had already pretty much eaten the steak. Some friends and family also called up to pay for some added extras. My uncle called and paid £20 for us to get their cheapest bottle of wine, and if we didn’t want it, just to put it towards the meal. Another two friends called and one bought a £60 bottle of champagne and another £50 toward the meal. We never got told my uncle wanted to put it towards a bottle of wine so the owner just decided it would go towards the meal and never told us about it. She also got the two messaged mixed up from our friends (how is this possible I don’t know?).We also had our water glasses removed from our room the second night, therefore we had no glasses to drink out of for wedding presents we had been given (not sure if we were aloud or not but no one told us).For our wedding meal I couldn’t deal with the silence, so a brought a very small speaker and some quiet music, so we didn’t have the same awkwardness as the night before, so was told “they don’t have the licence for that, so we had to turn it off?” It wasn’t even loud enough for anyone to hear.We can make the best out of any situation, and customer service costs nothing (even though each meal is roughly £100+), so we found the owners attitude appalling and want to warn everyone, especially anyone who are getting married there just to pay out slightly more to stay at an establishment a bit nearer Broadford; honestly it will pay off.And last of all when we left when coming to pay the bill, she included the cost of staying at the B&B. But my partner had to embarrassingly explain she had already paid this months ago. And instead of the proof she wanted to show her she had to go check her own records then came back and told us we were right. The only good thing about the service was a woman called Christine, and she was fantastic! She made us well welcomed and cheered us up when we felt a bit upset about the way the owner treated us. Well done Christine. Clare….you have a wonderful establishment, but please put your customers first.

Seldom have I visited a restaurant that offers the comprehensive experience that Coruisk House does - from the hospitable welcome by the lovely co-owner Clare, through the furnishings that exude subtle good taste, to a menu that embraces fresh produce only, prepared by Clare's partner Iain. Two of our party started with the Lobster Brulette, followed by the Sea Bass as our main course. The tired member had Mussels to start and Venison as his main course; all the dishes prepared and presented to perfection. None of us had room for desert, but the menu looked tantalising and next time I'll be sure to leave room for desert and perhaps even stay over in one of the rooms upstairs.Do not pass this way without sampling the exquisite cuisine of this gem of a restaurant, but be sure to book well in advance.

My first impression of this little restaurant down a windy one track road in Egol was chatting to Clare via email and phone, not only had she responded promptly with such a welcoming tone, she also went out of her way to accommodate my booking, and somewhat troublesome party of 6! My second impression was of the restaurant itself – the atmosphere, the décor, views and welcome were all absolutely perfect and the place itself is almost as beautiful as its surroundings.A quite, leisurely meal with a calm, soothing atmosphere was perfect after a long trip from London to Skye, it whisked us happily away from city life. The food however, far exceeded the quality of many restaurants I’ve eaten in big fancy cities and I would say it was on par with the likes of Hawksmoor. The wine Clare suggested perfectly complimented the meal, her homemade bread exquisite and every course (yes we had three) divine. You could tell the ingredients were fresh and each dish made from scratch to order. Not only was the food amazing, you’d be hard pressed to find that quality of service anywhere. Clare took the time to chat to us about the best walks in Skye and took an interest in the fact we were there for my partners 30th birthday.Even if you’re not saying in the south of Skye, this restaurant is worth a visit. Much more so than the three chimneys which IS Michelin star!

Keine Chance für Möchtegerne-Gutesser. Hier trifft sich, wer wirklich gut essen möchte, hier auf der Isle of Skye. Ich sagte zur Chefin: "This was the best meat, what I ate on the Isle of Skye" .. dabei habe ich nicht übertrieben. We spent two nights at Coruisk Inn during our honeymoon and absolutely loved it! Claire and Ian (and Reggie, their sweet dog) were wonderful- very warm and welcoming. Our bedroom was charming and the guest sitting room was the perfect place for an after-dinner whiskey. The best part of Coruisk House (and that is saying something) is by far the food! We have travelled extensively and dined at many Michellin star restaurants. However, we both agree, the food at Coruisk House was the best we have ever eaten. From the mushroom soup and homemade bread, to the salted caramel ice cream and brownies, we were in heaven. Every day was a new delight for our taste buds. Claire was also kind enough to make us sandwiches to take on our boat trip. It was simple - some lettuce greens, fresh bread from the oven and some brie but somehow it was the best sandwich we can remember. New York delis are now ruined for us. We were staying not too far away and we read about this restaurant with rooms in 'Delicious' magazine so decided to give it a go for lunch - you have to book for lunch and can't just turn up if passing, but we really recommend planning ahead as this is a comfortable and special place. I'm sure it is excellent for dinner also - it has more dishes on the dinner menu, but we sampled some of these for lunch. Food is extremely fresh, home cooked but to restaurant standard. Our favourites were the fish soup (much better than similar bisques we've had in France), and the fishcakes. The ice creams also really stood out - cardamon, pink gin, salted caramel. A very special and intimate wine list based on the owners' travels to French etc. vineyards. The owner/chef was extremely friendly and pleasant - her home baked breads start the meal and are excellent. There are fancier places on Skye with which this compares very well for freshness, taste and attention to detail. If you are considering the Three Chimneys or Kinloch Lodge, then this could just as well be on your list alongside those. Compared to most other places it is well above average and worth seeking out if you are on other parts of the island to book ahead for lunch. For dinner you'd need to be based closer or be staying there. A lovely part of our holiday for which we thank the owner.
