We’ve eaten at a Cornish Bakery before at a different location and had their Cornish pudding, it’s to die for, apparently it is made up of all the pastries at the end of the day. We had it warmed with cream, you couldn’t eat it every day but we did today. Drinks were good too, my daughter’s chai was a work of art. We also brought home a traditional and cheese and onion pasty, they were equally good.

Delicious pasties and sweet pastries. In Plymouth for the weekend to visit family and came for lunch on Sat. Came back on Sunday to take away some pasties for long train journey. Wanted to try the well recommended apple and rhubarb sweet pasty but were sold out so will have to try next time in Plymouth! I cleared my own table and since there was no where to put the dishes I put them on another table was not cleared. After a short stroll from the city centre we arrived at The Barbican and decided to stop here for a break. I had a Mocha and Julie had a Decaf Tea. We both had a plain scone each and I opted for clotted cream (yes, jam first then cream). The coffee was just right and was hot. Julie’s tea was right - ensuring she took out the tea bag as not to have it too stewed. The scones were fresh and were not dry, indicating freshly baked or at least they tasted fresh… crumbling and melting in your mouth with just the right consistency. The place was about a third full and although there were only two staff on (as far as we could see) they tried to keep the tables clear as best they could. Very friendly staff too. I put all our finished things on the tray and took over to the counter to help them out. Lovely view across the marina and harbour.

Unfortunately there was a couple with a dog and they were letting the dog drink out of a glass 😖. Yes i do love animals but not the owners who seem to think it’s ok to let them drink from glasses. Interesting that there’s been a lot of interest since The Vault closed and the lease was up for grabs. A lively CBD cafe business called ‘Buddha Hut’, which started a year or so ago in Union Street then moved to lower Cornwall Street has now announced they are expanding again and have acquired the Mutley lease and will open at the beginning of November with a cafe selling lots of CBD coffee and food etc on the ground floor with the large basement given over to other CBD products.

Three of us came in for informal supper. Booked but not necessary, maybe half full. Deal of £25 for two portions of fish and ships, geared towards couples but we have to pay about £17 for a third. The girls serving seemed to be getting edgy towards the end maybe because there seemed to be a group of their friends towards end of evening.

Have purchased from here several times - both the cake slices and celebration cakes. Most of the time the cakes are great - light and fluffy, but have been two occasions where the cake was too sweet and did not taste very fresh (seems more of an exception), but will still be purchasing nonetheless.

The Chancel has been one of our favourite places to eat in Plymouth for many years. During Covid and a bit longer they’ve been delivering or preparing for collection. Without much thought or any foreknowledge we walked down this evening hoping it might up and running for their traditional bistro food and good wines. Very disappointed therefore to find it dark, empty and will a To Let sign. No hint that there might still be an online service. Pity and we’re sad. Many dozens of happy memories.

Instalaciones limitadas pero justo en el corazón de todas esas bicicletas encantadoras. Siéntate adentro o afuera bajo techo. . Gran café también.
