an absolute gem of a place, just off the hubbub of plymouth main street. this place is well worth a try!!!!! the staff are always friendly and polite, very knowledgable of all their products. it is clean , social distaning is paramount, everything is labelled politely(asking not to move tables or chairs for the covid 19 reason) the coffee is hot and the cakes which we tried were fresh and delightful. i truly recommend this place as a go to place for a little peace and quiet, whilst watching the world go by. a little piece of heaven in devon. LOve it!!!!!!!!!

Occasionally I like to sit at Café Roma having a coffee and enjoying the view. Today I was shocked from the rude service, not only while I was ordering my drink but also when I was leaving and politely asked where is the bin to dispose my bottle. Well, there is no such thing at the premises and with a very unpleasant tone they inform you that they cannot take your rubbish. I am speechless.

The customer service is always good and I can say the same for the coffee. A good team of people behind the counter, which make the experience more enjoyable. Roma is always a great place for a properly made coffee. These photos were taken early in the morning, so don’t reflect how busy it gets .

Went yesterday for a coffee and it tasted really good and had the service to go with it. Really good to see some new members of staff at Roma who take pride in making coffee. Give them a try and enjoy people watching at the same time.

The coffee was ok but I have to say the young blonde tattooed girl who served was the rudest I have ever had to deal with! I have been thinking wether or not to post this reviews but with staff like that who argue and snap at customers requests people need to avoid!

Went for a coffee today and really disappointed by the service from the young blond female staff member behind the counter whose manner was not really the service I would normally expect from Roma and the coffee was terrible which I really don’t like to say. The extraction of coffee took only 19 seconds and the milk was boiling hot. Making the whole experience not pleasant at all. I actually left the coffee as I couldn’t drink it. Hate really leaving bad feedback for Roma as I like the place and the staff that use to work behind the counter.

Roma is one of the earliest independent proper coffee shops in Plymouth and although it's outside seating it's a great place to seat and watch the world go by on a nice dry day. My only concern is lately although the product I.e the bean is great, the end product the coffee is hit or miss depending on who is making it. Now when you are spending £2.50 roughly on a coffee, you want it to be good. New staff members are in place and learning the craft of coffee making, but the customer still wants a good coffee at the end of the day. Having said all of the above, it's a great place to go as the staff are friendly and John the owner does make a cracking coffee when he's working the shift.

Someone has tinkered with the address details at the top of this listing. There is another branch of this business by the ponds in Armada Way which has its own TripAdvisor listing. The businesses are I believe linked. But the thread here is about the useful friendly coffee biased drinks and food unit beside the council open air baths overlooking the Royal William Yard, the Hamoaze and Cremyl and Mount Edgecumbe. It is well run, good value and busy again during the warmer weather.

Lived in Plymouth for years so why haven't I discovered this place before? Often sat outside in the sun drinking coffee and watching people walk by but this time we had a toasted sandwich which arrived in a box and full of lovely fresh salad tossed in a lovely sweet dressing .... the sandwich was made with herby bread and was so full that it was oozing out. It was yum yum yum ... really cheap too ..... it's gonna be my 'go to' cafe of choice now .... recommend it to all ... is that the wrong thing to do now I wonder? Will it be packed next time ? Hmmm???

I drink coffee all round the UK, from chains and independents and this is by far the best I have tasted. They were friendly, courteous and indulgent of an elderly customer up from the country for a day in the big city. Delicious coffee, a bacon bun with salad and the sounds of Plymouth will definitely bring me back again.

Roma is the place to go to sit and relax and watch the world go by, depending on the weather as its outside seating only. The owner John is very passionate about his coffee and has the knowledge to back it up and he tries to pass this onto his staff. Since learning about Roma as a coffee stop a few years ago, johns old staff have moved on to spread what they have learnt from John. John has new staff on now serving coffee, and they are slowly learning the trade so bear with them. The food served is not expensive and the staff are friendly and talkative. So, still a great place to stop and watch the world go by.

Good little people-watching spot with plenty of seating. The 2 guys working the kiosk got a kick out of my American accent and were friendly. My latte was excellent. I cracked open a book and read for an hour or so before making the 10 minute or so walk up to the train station.

This cafe is very close to where i work The staff are very friendly; and knowledgable about coffee. My partner has a particular way that she likes her coffee made - no problems. The food menu is reasonably priced and varied - now including burgers! The morning and lunchtime queues probably tell you more about how good this cafe is than i can put into words.

Look out for the Coffee Roma kiosk at Mutton Cove, Plymouth. Great hot, really tasty coffee. Had it this morning whilst out walking in old haunts, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Great location and open all year round, and always busy in summer - but the local sea anglers know it well as it sits slap bang in the middle of a great fishing area for cod etc and what better warm up than brilliant coffee on a cold morning. Staff enjoyed their job of making the coffee too! Brilliant stop!!

Friendly, high quality, quick and very good value. They do a busy steady trade but they have enough staff so that much can be made to order and provided within a couple of minutes even at peak (usually lunch) times. Very popular and busy place. Good site next to ponds and good setting amongst government buildings.

Delightful fair weather snack and coffee place near the pools and admin offices/courts in armada Way. Good value meal deals, excellent coffee and good sensible range of fillings for baguettes and sandwiches quickly made to order. Ample tables. Bit of a sun trap. Just don't rely on having a late lunch. The kitchen closes about two thirty and then unless you eat cake you take pot luck on what few sandwiches might just be left in the fridge.

An easy simple but pleasant option for a good value reliable hot drink and snack away from the hassle of the town centre. Perhaps a surfeit of barristers and clients on weekdays but easily offset by the peaceful setting by the water and the municipal urban planning. Very friendly staff and often attractive meal deals.

The single photo captures this place so well, although the lack of leaves suggests it was taken a few months back. The staff here are friendly but the food is all fresh and I think a bit less pricey than most of the chain coffee and sandwich shops back on Royal Parade. There are plenty of tables and chairs. There is little close traffic and the water usually looks good. Nice when there are kids or old fogeys out with their model boats. The occasional fountains need attention but the all round feel is great.

Unusual tent style white outdoor snack hut beside the ponds in Guilhall Square between he Guildhall, Court House, Council House and tall 60s civic office block. They assemble their own excellent value sandwiches, baguettes etc and make excellent coffee but the rest of the pastries look bought in. Very efficient, quick and friendly. Used to come down here a bit when at the Uni. In those days it used to be mostly lawyers, crims and corporation staff but last week it seemed to be a lot of tourists. Whatever the customer base, in good weather it is good value food in a pleasant setting. Always something going on. While we were there, we saw a satellite TV van with two crews, one doing a piece outside the court and another interviewing a Plymouth Argyle man about a planning application to develop near the football ground.

Friendly cheap, quick and well sited for a daytime snack beside the big pools in front of the courts and council offices. Quite like the simple bistro tables by the neat little PVC tent like cafe counter. Not so good on a cold wet day in winter. Otherwise great, especially when the kids (older and younger) are using their remote control model boats on the water.

From the outside this place looks like it won't deliver much, how wrong can appearances be .... this place serves the best coffee I've ever had, certainly better than all the major coffee chains (in my opinion). The staff are friendly and extremely efficient and are happy to make your coffee / food how you like it. I'm very particular about my coffee but the staff here know how to make a proper coffee - no burning of the milk (unless you ask for it !), beautifully made, fabulous tasting coffee. The price for this fab coffee and food - well, the price is extremely reasonable, you don't get ripped off here, you get more than you pay for .... a rare thing in this economic climate.I believe the place has been there for quite some time and has a regular customer base. If you go in the morning you will no doubt be greeted by the owner of the business, John, who is a friendly chap with a passion for his product. His staff are just as passionate and are able to deliver your coffee/food efficiently and with a smile .... This is definitely the place to go if you want a decent cup of coffee made with expertise and passion and delivered with a friendly word and smile - all this for an extremely affordable price.

Set in what someone has called 'Civic Centre Square' on Armada Way, but which other people tend to call 'Guildhall Square' this is an efficient well run place set between the Guildhall and Law Courts on one side and the Civic Centre and Council House on the other. Very close to the large oblong ponds with some tacky fountains and occasional dodgy artworks, this unassuming but very popular outdoor tea coffee and snack facility has gone from strength to strength over a decade or two. It is a roughly twenty foot diameter white unmarked building shaped like circular tent. Apparently part of the locally based Bar Roma group of coffee shops this, the first branch is familiarly referred to as 'John's'. Rumoured to have been launched when the nearby court buffet was put out to tender and then run by an expensive company, John's became a lively friendly option offering tasty good value deals for lawyers linters crims and all, quickly building a steady trade which has lasted. It is open on weekdays and Saturday's but I have never checked Sunday's. If you are not forced here by circumstance, and the weather is dry then it is a good place to sit out at anytime from breakfast till teatime. Easy reach of the retail centre and the Hoe. Well made coffee, excellent and wide selection of filled sandwiches and baguettes and especially pastries cakes buns etc.Dozens of tables scattered round. Recommended.
