One of the best chip shops in maidstone

The gentleman with the blondish hair is always really nice and friendly. Great customer service. Came in today and another customer arrived at the same time 8.43pm and we wanted to Order but was told they were closed and finished. On the door it says 9pm. That’s two customers they missed out on and no dinner for us tonight.

Shame to say but very thin cod had to look to see if anything was in there .Then second time fish batter was very oily.Chips ok.

Wow what a waste of money. Food...service and atmosphere awful, extortionate for a chippy tea. Owners are rude, obnoxious . Staff are overworked and under payed. If they don't like you ....it shows in the standard and quality of Food you receive. Not to mention the sheds outback used to prepare food.

Winner of the Scouts 2024 Chip Shop Challenge!! Cornford’s is a great fish and chip shop, with some indoor seating, over 50 menu items, and great customer service. The very nice lady who works there was able to give us some extra for our challenge and everyone at Scouts admitted they were the best. It is situated in a nice parade of shops and is next to Penenden Heath. Go in and enjoy yourself!! RATINGS: (/5) Price: 4 - Some items are a tad expensive! Had got home and didn't fancy cooking, looked up fish ans chip shops remembered cornfords and was happy it was open, ordered online went to pick it up and the lady that served me apologized and said they didn't have the pie I had ordered and would I mind having a different one, I said no that's fine and went with the chicken and mushroom one instead, food was hot and well worth the money I paid it really hit the spot we definitely will be back.

Very Disappointed tonight been coming here for a number of years and always had good food and service but tonight food was poor fish much smaller than normal and lots of bones batter was crunchy to the point of being hard chips had clearly been out to long as getting cold savaloy has dry . Staff very unorganised and clearly having trouble getting the orders out , probably won't be coming back

You used to use this many years ago. When the place was absolutely chocolate block. But most recently, it was near empty only one member of staff. The fish even though nice was very oily, and it seemed a little expensive.

I just got a bag of chips from here 12 noon time. Some of the chips were cold, some had been reheated, some were over greay. So bad I threw the full bag in the bin.

Ordered a small cod and chips today. Fish was cooked to order but only took about 6mins which is more than acceptable. Chips were well cooked and the fish tasted great, nice crispy batter. Thank you.

Absolutely ridiculous service. Cook each order in their entirety at a time. I only ordered chips and waited 15 mins while two kids stood doing nothing next to a load of cooked chips and paper and were rude when I asked why they couldn't serve the chips while somebody else's fish cooked. Food is overpriced and tasteless.

If you live locally then you've probably been here, and if you've been recently you may have even complained about the price rise but I for one understand that the location of peneden heath is getting harder to sustain local businesses thanks to a sense of gentrification and the suburban roads not being built to handle the amount of new builds and major businesses appearing in the area and that's without the economic situation of the UK. And its not even that much of an increase (3.50 to 4.60 sort of case) Tldr: if you're ever in the area this is a brilliant place to try. Chips are smashing

I don’t write reviews but I had to this time! The other reviews can’t be real! Chips were alright if you like mash potatoe! 1.50 for a shot glass full (if ur lucky) of curry sauce, and a battered sausage where all the batter fell off. Best quality thing about the meal was the newspaper it was wrapped in….Oh and the drink was cold 👍

Bought two portions of cod bites & chips, the size of the portions of chips were embarrassingly small! Absolutely unbelievable tiny portions. For the price of them surely could match up with other fish & chip shops. Also they were ok but nothing special. Won’t be visiting again!

Came to buy fish and chips at just before 8:50, walked through the door and one of the girls said,,.' I'm not cooking anymore ' so we walked away with a portion of chips, We wanted 3 large cod and chips. Very disappointed with the service, Perhaps you should say last orders taken at 8:30pm Your staff are not an asset to your business.

The food is really nice, I have the chips and mushy peas and my husband and cat 🐈 have the fish 🐟 .

Had a chippy lunch with the family. Good was very good but seemed to take a very long time (maybe the chips had only gone in when I walked in, not sure). staff were friendly and seemed like a good local place where everyone knew each other. I didn't have fish but the chips were excellent.

Lovely staff and food, but of a wait for food though.

Just moved into area after using papas fish barn and to be honest me and my wife have never had bones in our cod like yours . Chips were nice as was onion rings but bones are just not acceptable.

Decent chip shop nice food friendly staff and they accommodated my wish for fresh cooked sausage in batter will eat here again.

Sooo disappointed with a chippy I used to really enjoy. Their large Cod is a joke, more like a medium at best with plenty of bones. I appreciate the cost increased but don't give smaller portions.... I've compared to 3 others chip shops, I told server this and was advised to go elsewhere in future. Poor customer experience......

Chips a bit on the dear side at £3.50 for a reg portion. But you get a reasonable amount. Taste was ok. Been 2 nights on trot so far will prob make it 4.

Not good value for money. Paid £3.50 for a regular portion chips which hardly fed myself and my toddler. Some chips were black and hard. Very disappointed, if I lived close by I would have returned the food and asked for a refund.

Bought two fish and large chips. The chips were black in the main and the batter on the fish was inedible in addition the cod was full of bones. The only good thing was the pickled egg which could not be ruined !,

Fish and chips. Only tried chips but they were OK. Reasonable sized portions. They do have vegetarian options on menu but yet to try.

Visited at lunchtime, nothing prepared or ready apart from sausages, not even chips, staff un-organised, and ridiculously slow. Waited over 20mins for a more expensive than average portion of chips that were not worth the wait, or the price. Can understand the "everything cooked fresh" thing for non busy times, but surely at peak trading times its sensible to have the commonly asked for things ready, as they wont be sitting for more than a few minutes after being cooked. Seems its more about reducing possible wastage to a zero, at the expense of good quick service for their customers. Used to be a good chippy, won't visit there again, the one on nearby Vinters Park is way better.

Lovely place. Food always hot and fresh. Staff wonderful. The prices are reasonable too, very competitive. If you eat from there ypu won't be disappointed. There's so much choice and variety. It's a really nice place.

I walked in and ordered a large & medium cod with chips and 2 children sausage and chips. It was just over £20. All meals were individually wrapped and beautifully cooked. Didn't have to wait too long. They now offer a local delivery service.

The woman and the young girl were very unfriendly and didn't like it when I asked if the chips could be cooked a bit longer, she said 'why?' I said 'because they're white '

The chips here use to be great. But this is now my 3rd visit and the chips have been terrible.

Hadn't been due to Covid restrictions but decided to buy some chips at lunchtime as they smelled so good. Unfortunately they didn't taste good! I have bought fish and chips from Cornfords for decades after it changed from being Cornfords butchers. The chips were not freshly cut and although hot, they were tough and tasteless. Very disappointing as I can cook oven chips that taste nicer. Won't be tempted again for a while, until they get a different supplier.

A good traditional English chip shop.. been here a few times over the last few year's good everytime. Yes you do have to wait for your fresh food, but rather wait for fresh than being served super fast to dryed up old muck. Fresh is best people so stop moaning! Nice staff too. Keep doing what your doing CORNFORDS excellent food..👍

Best fish and chips in Maidstone

This is my local chipshop and after yesterday I will not be returnin!!!!! I stood by the counter for probably nearly up to 10 minutes while the 2 ladies were chatting / fiddling with the bread roles and never even bothered to even ask what I was after or serve me! In the end I just got fed up of waiting to be seen to and just left Every time I come here there is always a long wait even for a portion of chips which any other chipshop would serve almost immediately I would happily drive the extra miles for better service and food than to put up with this hassle everytime I visit here

Sorry to say that when I got home, the fish was inedible, it smelled and tasted of an amonia/ bleach like substance, so I threw it away. It was dreadful. The chips were dry and just not edible. I should have gone back but the place was very busy and I didn't want to cause a scene. But I wont go there again, sorry to say.

Come here on Mondays to grab some chips to go with a home cooked curry, every time we have to wait ages just for chips when there is people coming in after us and getting served, it seems the less you order the longer you wait. Will be going to a different place in future.

Chips straight in the bin I got home and they were all dry and brown I think I got the left overs. I should of said something when the girl said I will give him these chips and wait for the fresh ones. Usually the food is good when the women work but I won’t be coming here again it’s a shame as it’s my local.

Don't bother if you want fish and chips you probably be quicker catching it yourself and growing g your own potatoes then peeling then cooking . Young girl was rude and as thick as the grease on the god they served, I know as a small business you try to cut down any wastage but ffs it's a chip shop . They have no wastagecor left over grease as it's on your food 😡

Made a pre order via phone, had to return to the shop as they left out what they considered a large fish and chips, fish was a medium and the chips were bits and was nowhere near a large, the portions were not worth the money, the young girl was rude and very unhelpful, will not be going there in the future

Staff sullen rude and unhelpfull. Avoid this place like the plague. You wait an age for shoddy substandard food. Mine cost £3.95. I threw it in the bin.! Awful.. Truly awful..

The fish was tasteless chip were greasy and the girl serving should be taught some manners. She clearly needs speaking to if she is going to be dealing with customers.

Lovely food, always very fresh but because it's cooked to order, you may have a bit of a wait. I'd much rather that though than have food that's been reheated several times.

Sorry to swear but I has been the shitest experience for me and my 5 kids . I have been going there hoping that every time it will get better . The fish tastes like plastic there is always hair in anything you order and £3 for a large portion of chips that are oily and you only get not even 4 handfuls. The batterd sausages are disgusting. Also the people that serve you are moody and rude. I am never going there again.
