Corner Chippy in Derbyshire Dales

I don't usually bother to write reviews, however, we went to get fish & chips, as most of the reviews were outstanding. To say I was dissapointed is an understatement. My fish(£6.50) was almost all batter. Shocking, easily the worst fish & chip meal I have ever had. Should have gone to the chippy up the road, they had a long queue.

Excellent fish and chips in the heart of tideswell. Fresh cooked to order and served in a lovely box. Couldn't fault the good nor the service at all. Hit the spot. Easy to find and a short walk away from the pubs and main part of the village. Would heartily recommend

We went along to the corner chippy at 7:30 on a Saturday evening. There was a scrawled note in the window saying' sorry, no fish'. Not ideal but we went in all the same to order something alternative. My partner asked for a Yorkshire fishcake and the sullen, arrogant girl who was serving us jabbed her pen towards the window as if to say 'cant you read'. Worst customer service we experienced on our weeks holiday! So basically, the fish shop had run out of anything that contains fish. Terrible experience at The Corner Chippy Might explain why the other Tideswell chip shop always had a que of people outside throughout our weeks stay.

The fish was one of the best I’ve ever had , chips were delicious to. 😃 Definitely recommend nice big portions to.

This was hands down the best fish and chips we have ever eaten from. The food was cooked fresh in front of us and was so delicious we finished the whole lot! Portions were plentiful but not excessive, prices were reasonable and again food was 5*.

We asked at the local pub which chippy was better in the village and the corner chippy was the one recommended. The food was all made to order, the cod was huge! Plenty of chips, too many chips for us actually. The food was lovely and we may be back there tonight as nowhere seems to be open for dinner around here currently. The staff were friendly. And now I know what a scallop is (not its not seafood)!

Finding somewhere that can cook simple fish and chips well is not that easy it seems. This place does the job admirably.

People seem to rave about the rival chipshop, so we tried there first. The queue was not being managed very well (no option to place one's order upon joining the queue, as I am used to doing), so we gave up and went to Corner Chippie. At Corner Chippie, we were served quickly, and the food was good. The chips were a little more well done than I am used to, but this actually added to the flavour of them; a nice approach. I only had to wait a few minutes, and they kept my food warm while I popped to the off licence. Being able to pay by card at a chippie was novel too.

We were camping close by when our stove stopped working. The Corner Chippy was recommended by the Campsite owners and it didnt disappoint. Lovely staff who were happy to help, crispy fish batter, great tasting chips (both cooked to order), at a great price. 4 very happy customers with fully bellys!

Called here one evening while we was camping in the area. Lovely cod, chips and mushy peas. The fish was just cooked to perfection. Would defiantly recommend.

Not as good as the chippy near cemetery far from it gave me bad gut waiting all that time corner chippy high prices the other chippy cheaper prices better food and I don't have to wait as long

Called in a lunchtime today, small queue, but really friendly staff. Fish was cooked to perfection, batter light and not fatty at all, chips were lovely. Our problem now will be to ration our visits!

We were so impressed with this little gem! We were shocked by the cheap prices, and didn’t expect the food to be to be the best. The food was delicious, probably the best fish and chips we’ve had for a long time! Just over £20 for four adult meals! Staff were friendly and welcoming

Under new management, I had an amazing fish it was massive will definitely go bad again... Best in derbyshire!!!!!

After a period of 10 month closure this chippy has now reopened (Feb 2020) under new ownership. I tried it last week, good portion sizes, fair value for money, friendly staff. Fish batter was a bit soggy on the inside, needed a little more cooking. Sausages are low meat content, bland and pasty, shame as many local butchers sell great sausages. Will visit again.

This place is now closed down. Not surprising as since of ownership approx 1 year ago the place went downhill fast. Soggy chips and fish seemed to be frozen.

We went here to get dinner for the family it was very busy which showed that it was delicious.Friendly staff made sure we were okay whilst having to wait a while as everyone had large orders but it was definitely worth it as - were delicious - was lovely, hot and fresh with a nice batter.Peas were lovely and stayed hot. - was pretty good in a massive bap filled with lots of salad and chicken.

Super friendly staff who told us all about the area and the best places to go. The food was absolutely delicious!!! The cod was out of this world and chips were devine! The premises is spotlessly clean....great portion sizes and super value for money! Only wish it was my local chippy...Highly recommended.

Just had the worst, driest ,smallest , tasteless fish ever.Full size fish far smaller than most chip shops mini fish.Not worth the money spent Can safely say that the loyalty card we were given will remain with the 1 stamp issued .Honestly the fork in the picture is a normal fork next to a FULL SIZE FISH !!!

Called in for fish & chip takeaway whilst on holiday. Large portions, hot and tasty. Very friendly staff.

Asked for a double burger and a cheese burger after the wait they came but very poor the fryed them in the deep frier not on a grill

We have just eaten our supper freshly made at the Corner Chippie. It was absolutely tremendous!!! Nothing more to be said! Perfect.

There are two chippys in Tideswell and we tried both during our stay, both are good - but we feel this is the one that deserves a five star review. Two lovely, friendly ladies were serving. The fish and chips were freshly cooked, piping hot and not greasy. It tasted great too! The portions were generous - we will fit in another visit while we're here I'm sure!

These have to be the best chips in Tideswell. Not greasy and plenty of them. Had the jumbo sausage which was really good too. Would recommend. Elliot’s where greasy last time I tried them.

My children and me were out sampling the delights of Derbyshire and wanted fish and chips to end the day off well, the fish was amazing light batter, the boys has chicken nuggets and chips which they loved, great service, good banter the girls who work there are a delight, it was great to find a good old fashioned chippy, clean and inviting, will certainly be visiting again with the boys.

This chippy was run well, until it changed hands recently. Since then fish portions have got smaller, often pies etc are out of stock. If you dare express discontent then you will get bland reply. Your fault for being a customer. I live in Tideswell. This outfit only seems to caterer for visitors, not a good place. Try other local chip shops in the area/local villages, in my opion much better. On an earlier review I stated that the sausages were poor quality. Response to me me was "we sell loads", can't use better local butcher sausages as we can't cook them.

Very tasty fish cakes and chips, great service, and good value. Will be visiting again on our next visit.

Having read all the wonderful reviews I promised myself a fish and chippy tea!, sorry not impressed at all, a beautiful piece of haddock undercooked and very greasy and the chips could have done with more time in the fryer. Disappointed

Quite a big queue but the ladies were great working through it. Slight confusion on what I'd paid for but quickly sorted. Nice chips and lovely fish. I would say the mushy peas were far too salty. Really good value overall.

Under new management. Great fish and chips, nice service. Although the sausages are poor quality, low meat content. Given that local butchers offer great sausages it's a shame that these sausages are not used. Perhaps the menu should offer a standard sausage and a better quality one.

Visiting Tideswell with family and decided to watch Liverpool beat City (hopefully!) with burger and chips. Chatted to the staff and they were friendly and chatted helpfully back. The food was delicious. Recommend the cheeseburgers.

Having arrived at our accommodation late in the afternoon and bad weather approaching we were looking for something comforting to eat. We found this at the Corner Chippy. The owners were very friendly and the food cooked freshly. Lovely Cod and chips with mushy peas. Mmmmm can still picture it now.

Decided to have a fish and chip supper, so I walked to this small but friendly chippy. Friendly banter with the proprietors and excellent Cod and Chips, we shared a large portion and between two that was ample. Nice Batter on the Fish.

One of two chip shops in Tideswell. Service was ok, although the lady serving was somewhat forgetful of the orders taken. Plenty of chips in each order and the fish was good although nothing special.

Owned by friendly staff, consistently good food prepared and served in clean hygienic conditions Tideswell's Corner Chippy is certainly a place to visit either passing through or for a quick and easy meal time.

We have been here before a few years ago and knew the fish n chips were good. We stopped off on the way to Manchester airport today and had THE best ever fish n chips. They were amazing, fish was beautiful, chips were cooked to perfection. Staff are great. Thank you!

What a lovely chip shop. The staff are very friendly and the food is lovely - especially the marvellous crispy chips.From other comments you may have to wait a little at busy times, but it's well worth it.

We chose the Corner Chippy following recommendation from a fellow tourist in a local pub, and our fish and chips were as good as promised - what a treat!

Just what we needed after the drive up from London, to welcome us to the Dales. Fresh, hot, crisp and friendly service too.

After a day walking on Kinder Scout, we were ready to eat. Ordered fish and chips which were cooked to perfection, served with a smile and top quality.

So good to find a first class traditional fish and chip shop, we ate our lovely meals over looking the fabulous Monsal Dale. The perfect end to the day.

If staying in a holiday cottage, fish and chips on one evening is obligatory, and this is definitely the place to get them. Fish was excellent and the chips were the best I've tasted in a long time.

Popped by late one Thursday evening. Fish fried to order and it tasted as good it looked. If you fancy a treat, have a mushy pea patty - deep fried mushy peas in crispy batter - delicious!!

We've had a lot of take-away fish & chips over the years of visiting England and today we have simply enjoyed the Very Best Cod & Chips EVER! Words do not fully describe the deliciousness of the food they do up at this establishment. The lady and gentleman were very nice also. And talk about good value for money...it is the best all the way around!

Popped in last night after arriving late to a nearby cottage, so friendly, settled a bit of a query as I said I thought is was pronounced Tidswell and hubby thought Tideswell...alas I was wrong but not a bad loser lol, daughter and I had haddock it was beautiful, a sizeable portion, no skin and batter was done to perfection, light and crispy...... We will pay a visit later in the week for sure !

On our holidays, thought "need some chips!" We plumped for this chippy in tideswell as the other looked not as nice, so glad we did!The corner chippy food was fab! As a vegetarian you don't get so much choice, but I spied the Pea Battie and never had one before. So, went on a limb and bought one. Really tasty! Others in our troop had chicken nuggets and scampi, all said how nice it was. Chips was pretty good too!Only wish we lived here and get some more of the Pea Batties!!

Went for fish and chips last night as we saw this chippy on trip advisor and wow are we glad we did, absolutely delicious the fish was gorgeous and cooked to perfection with beautiful crispy batter and a good portion of chips, mushy peas were great proper green, can't recommend this chippy enough, I will be calling again before we leave.

We popped into the Corner Chippy for fish and chips the first night of our holiday. There was a bit of a queue but I expect that in small takeaways and usually take it as a sign that the food is worth it!Chips were freshly cooked and chunky, fish was also fresh and cooked in a nice crispy batter. We also had no complaints about either the mushy peas or the curry sauce! Excellent, and well worth a return visit.

Whilst staying in a Tideswell cottage, had a night in, got fish & chips from the corner chippy...very good chips, a little disappointed with the batter on the fish, could have been crispier, but the prices were reasonable, would try them again if in the area.

Had fish & chips here whilst staying for the week in the village. Gorgeous fish & chips cooked fresh to order & such a lovely, friendly, welcoming couple who run it. Even allowed our dog in to wait with us on a rainy night. Wish you were our 'Corner Chippy' at home! Highly recommended!

good food, good welcome.This is our local chippy and it is the highest standard. I sometimes have chicken.. very good, also. fish cake good. Fish cooked as you like it. Mick will put it back in for an extra few minutes if you wish. Nothing is too much trouble. A proper family business .Sometimes, if I am lazy I get chips just to put with the food I cook.Always good.

Spent a week in Tideswell and only 100m away from this chippy, so had to try it. Was recommended it and wasn't disappointed. Lovely, friendly couple and service and all cooked freshly to order. Good portion sizes, good chips and tasty, crispy fish. Can't say they were the best in Tideswell as we didn't try the other one, but we did go back for a bag of chips another day. Would recommend.

We love this chippy! We go here a couple of times a month. We come from Bradwell so have to drive to call here. Even though we drive back with our fish and chips all wrapped up, when we get home they are still lovely and crispy. The batter on the fish is light and fluffy...perfect! The fish is lovely and fresh. It's a real treat when we visit here. Thank you corner chippy for such a yummy treat!

Best fish and chips in the village. Try the "Yorkshire Fishcakes" they are great. If you are local or visiting then this place is very good. Can get busy at peak times, well worth the wait. Food is freshly cooked and great service.

Popped in with my friend at 20.45 on Saturday night having revised all day and realising it was too late to cook. What a find! I had chicken and chips and my friend had a whopping sized fish and chips. My friend said "superb chips and tasty fish" I would have to say the same about my chicken, huge piece of chicken really well cooked and scrummy. Lovely couple own the chippy. All in all a 5 star dinner. Would definitely come back.

Have just spent the week in Tideswell and just had to keep returning to the Corner Chippy (three times in a week..!!). The food was superb, probably the best take away cod and chips we've had...!! And an added bonus, the owners are just the nicest couple you could wish to meet, always making you feel welcome. A definite MUST visit when in the area.Note, our dog was also welcome to wait inside, another nice touch.Thank you both for such great hospitality and running the perfect chippy.

One visit for an evening meal, the chips were loaded up with the crispy fat throw aways that are usually filtered out by other chippies.

We were hoping to eat at the Star in Tideswell, but food was off, so we had a quick drink and walked to the corner chippy. What a great place, I ordered food which was cooked fresh and chatted to the staff for the whole time I was waiting. The cod was large and succulent and chips were very well cooked.

Well what a great find! The staff were lovely, the chap at the fryer was so funny and kept us amused! There were a few people waiting to be served which just goes to show how popular this place is. This has to be the worst chippy ever we ordered our food and was told it would be about 10 minutes. So went to the shop round the corner to get a few odds and sods on my return had to wait another 15 minutes as they had not even started with my order. When I got the food home I wished we had just cooked for ourselves as it was utter crap
