This is a lovely cafe! The food was so tasty and really homely with very generous portions. It’s such good value for money. The staff were brilliant and so friendly. We loved it here and were so grateful to find it and would definitely return.

Popped in for coffee on a wet miserable morning, ended up with toasted teacake and husband had savoury cheese panini which was a meal in itself with side salad and coleslaw. He said was good. This was all served by pleasant couple of you g women. The prices were very reasonable can see why when we've walked past couple times always busy.

Stopped for lunch on a cold December day. While the staff did forget part of our order, they were polite, friendly and apologetic and the food was good. Nicely priced, and a great view of town if you sit by the window. Its a smaller cafe, a little on the cramped side.

Arrived here after a sleep over in Alnwick 7 starving women looking for breakfast. Tables were set for the locals who were having some sort of meeting later in the day but made us more than welcome and placing tables so we could all eat together. Ordered full English all round and when the locals arrived we were made to feel part of the community, the staff served everyones food quickly. The food itself was delicious not greasy or fatty large portions, stacks of toast good cup of coffee & free top ups would definitely visit again

We visited Alnwick and needed a light lunch so chose Copperfields, it is quite old fashioned but the menu looked OK. When our food arrived it was a bit sad looking, quite poor quality. The jug the milk arrived in was not particularly clean and the whole place would benefit from a deep clean and spuce up. The young lady who served us seemed like she didn't particularly want to be there. Would we go again - NO

Visited Alnwick on holiday. Looking for somewhere for lunch. This small cafe sells good home made food. Only a few tables but all full. My wife had the soup and I the curry. Both meals home made and large portions. Excellent food. Only drawback was the waiting time, but worth waiting for. Great value for money, thoroughly recommend

I had the scampi and salad. The scampi was out of a frozen food bag and the salad consisted of yellow limp lettuce a couple of slices of tomato, cucumber and peppers. I was starving so I ate some. Wish I hadn't, I very nearly threw up. Disgusting.

I have frequently visited this cafe as I have travelled up to Alnwick in previous years. No complaints.....until now! Came back this time and I am sorry to say I will not be back. Inexperienced waitresses. A smile would go a long way! What made this worse while waiting for my ‘food’ they were standing on the stairs having loud foul conversations standing on their phones! (Which has been commented on in previous posts)No one looked in charge and no one seemed to care to be frank! Where is the management? Has no one here heard of customer service?

Called in with the promise of home cooked food. Plumped for the 'giant yorkshire pudding with cumberland sausage' at £6.95. The Yorkshire pudding was barely cooked - still doughey in many parts. Some of the peas were overcooked - some were like bullets and the mash was sloppy and tasteless. I have no idea where they got the Cumberland sausage ring from, given the number of butchers in the town - tasteless mechanical rubbish. Also, it was just cooked in the middle, but like leather on the outside - clearly cooked earlier and warmed up in the number of microwaves in the kitchen, clearly visible from the cafe. The pie my wife had was OK, but the pastry was inedible at the rim. The boiled potatoes has been boiling for some time. AVOID!!!!

Stopped here for lunch with my wife and kids after spotting the “home cooked” food signs outside. Big mistake. My wife wanted to leave as soon as we walked and spotted the rank carpet, dodgy copper topped tables and undusted Toby jugs adorning the walls. A young server sat us down. Another “red flag”. She looked like she was being held against her will. Blank and uninterested. Nonetheless we ordered. Two homemade pies, one homemade Lasagne, one giant Yorkshire pudding dinner. Fingers crossed! 15 minutes later we got a “sorry we’ve ran outa mash” from our charmless host. Unfortunately I missed that conversation as I was on my way to the nearby Subway getting some artificial sweetener for our drinks as this place didn’t have any. Oh well. During our extended wait the other scruffy top wearing server appeared to be regularly sprinting back and forth to the nearby Morrison’s with a bag for life. I’d assumed this was for more kitchen supplies but possibly it was just for mouse traps. On return from each supply mission and after coughing the contents of her lungs into the open palm of her hand, she would open the kitchen door and pass over the supplies. From my unfortunate vantage point, each time I’d get a rather off putting glimpse of the kitchen and “cook” through the open door. Urgh. The “food” arrived after 40 excruciating minutes. Shocking quality. Reheated microwaved mush. Cheap tinned vegetables. A minuscule drizzle of gravy here and there. Maybe 9 or 10 cheap frozen chips on each plate. The lasagne looked like it had been through a food blender and then had a lump of unmelted cheese plonked on the top. The Cumberland sausage in the Yorkshire pudding dinner was as thick as a biro but it’s lack of girth was cleverly disguised by covering it an entire tin of smart price carrots. It was all awful. I’ve eaten better quality meals in the slums of Delhi. I suspect this place only gets visitor custom due to naivety. Cant believe anyone eats here more than once. This place is well overdue an inspection from the FSA Never again.

I have no objection to dated/traditional cafes, but this one was very disappointing indeed! We were cold, and ravenous, and ordered omelettes, followed by crumble and custard. The tea was a bit grim, not Earl Grey as ordered, and with a greasy film floating on top. The crumble was nothing special, and the custard was as watery as milk. The service was poor; food and drinks unceremoniously plonked in front of us in silence. Our waitress had no idea how to speak to customers, so didn't bother. The place smells fusty, and damp, décor is very dated (and not in a good way), and tables were sticky and grimy. The display cabinet held the grand total of 6 cans of warm lilt, and a couple of tiny, clingfilm wrapped, unappetising 'tray bakes'. I can't understand how this place gets such positive reviews, and manage to hold on to its prime position in the centre of Alnwick. We walked past on a Fri am, and the café was rammed with elderly customers, so perhaps we caught them on an off day?!

None of the three seemed to be in charge and even as our ok food arrived they carried on their conversation including the swearing, the food was simply plonked on the table and the waitress walked away. We went in for lunch. Table was dirty and I had to ask for it to be wiped. Young waitress looked utterly miserable and didn’t even acknowledge us for some time. Ham Salad was poor value - a few pieces of cheap wafer thin ham, a boiled egg, a spoonful of coleslaw and a small quantity of salad, mostly lettuce, spread out on the plate. Quiche “special” was rather better value, large portion of quiche and came with baked potato (it was vegetable quiche - when we asked what the vegetables she said “I don’t know, I didn’t make it!” Grudgingly went and asked in the kitchen.) I agree with previous commentators, a bit of investment, an updated menu and some staff training/supervision and this place could be very successful as it’s very central.

It was just about acceptable here. The staff were friendly (although they got my order wrong and overcharged...we just paid it instead of a tip) but the cafe is painfully outdated. Think pictures your great grandma would have owned, sticky tables, and menus you’re not quite sure you want to touch. Visited for a pot of tea, which was swiftly served by the friendly waitress.Unfortunately, Copperfields really needs a good clean. The light fittings, chairs etc were all very dusty and dirty and it would also benefit from spending a little money fixing small jobs. For example, the light fitting had 4 bulbs but only one was working.Food looked good though and the menu was tempting and at a good price. The chilled food display contained some delicious looking home made cakes, plate pie and what may have been a lasagne. If we called again, I would be very tempted to try some of their cake.

Copperfields is very conveniently located in the centre of Alnwick, close to the shops and the bus station. It serves what I would describe as casual cafe foods - including breakfasts, jacket potatoes, rolls, home made pies, and so on. The coffee is OK though not the best in town. The place is clean and nicely decorated but can get crowded. I don't think it has a toilet - well, I couldn't see one so left for the public toilet across the road.

Stopped for lunch and place looked fairly busy but ended up disappointed. The least bad, they only had still water no sparkling. We both had paninis but they were really just french stick rolls heated and then sandwich filling added which was of course cold. The side salad was pretty tired, looked like it had been in a bowl in the kitchen for well more than one day with browning lettuce. Highlight was the waitress sneezing into her hands and then not bothering to wash them. No wonder their hygiene rating was not displayed. Also no toilets, if you needed one you are directed across the street to the town public toilets which were disgusting. They are plenty of better places to go in Alnwick

Alnwick town centre has bars, pubs and cafes, but none of the chain restaurants like Zizzi or Pizza Express or even McDonalds (at least, none that we could see). Leaving the Alnwick Garden about the time of day when cafes close, and looking for a hot meal, we thought we were going to be disappointed. Then we discovered Copperfields on Market Street. We asked and they were staying open till 7.30, so we went in. I suppose you would call it a small cafe restaurant with old-fashioned decor, serving simple home cooked meals. It has only 7 tables but wasn't busy at that time (although other customers came in while we were eating). We ordered omelettes with chips. The food was tasty and freshly cooked. We have eaten there before and the service and food had been ok. In fact on a chilly wet day its a cosy place to be. Today has sealed its fate with us however. I ordered corned beef pie and a cuppa. The pinging sounds coming from the kitchen were a bit of a giveaway. Microwave reheating..... arghhhh. Well it was obviously this which completely trashed the pie crust. Not only was the pie dried out but the crust was rock hard. Completely inedible. ... completely impenetrable!! We were in a rush so had no time nor were we in any mood to complain. Meal eaten,we went to pay and commented that the crust was too tough. Unless I was mistaken. ...and I may be because I was a bit fed up.... the waitress/cook commented from the table she was sitting at,"They always are." We left before I said something I'd regret.A lovely warm cafe spoiled by the cooking of its pastry ... which I note has been mentioned in an earlier post. On a positive note, the tea was nice.

I visited this "cafe" for breakfast with my wife and son and we all ordered a full English breakfast. We politely asked if they would be able to make sure the eggs were cooked soft, i.e. not crispy on the bottom and with a runny yolk. The lady who took our order said that this wouldn't be a problem and we looked forward to getting our breakfast.Unfortunately, when the breakfasts arrived the egg was almost rigid and so crispy you literally couldn't cut into them. The yolks were solid. It looked like they'd been forgotten about in the pan. We complained and asked for the eggs to be redone. The waitresses rolled her eyes but reluctantly agreed. By the time the replacement eggs came we'd more or less finished our breakfast and when we saw the replacement eggs they were no different to the original ones. We told the waitresses to take them away as they were still inedible and very late. She offered no apologies, only to say that that's the best they could do, so we finished up and went to pay. I didn't make a play for a reduced price but thought that at the very least we would be offered a slight discount as we hadn't had any eggs with our breakfast. However, to my disappointment, we were charged full price even though the waitress knew how unhappy we'd been. Maybe they guessed we wouldn't be coming back and made no attempt to win us back as a customer. By the way, the rest of the breakfast was nothing to write home about either. All in all we were very disappointed with there food and their "couldn't care less" attitude. We certainly will not be going back. I'd recommend you steer well clear. If I could give it a zero, I definitely would.

Popped in late afternoon We both had the homemade pie which we both enjoyed. Only a small place. Prices very reasonable for portion size. One member of staff was a bit short when my other half ordered dumplings (as stated on a blackboard) to be gruffly told "we don't do dumplings". After ordering our meals my other half was then told they had run out of mash. The meals came out promptly and the other member of staff was pleasant. Our meal was OK and enjoyed but would probably not go back a second time.

My husband and I went here for lunch recently. It's quite small but nice enough. My husband ordered the all day breakfast and I ordered a baked potato with prawns. After ordering I asked where the toilets were and was informed they have none but there are public toilets across the road. No toilets?? Really?? Ten minutes after ordering the waitress came to inform me that there were no baked potatoes left - this at just 12.30!! I asked for a roll instead with the prawns and give them their due the roll was so loaded I had to eat it with a fork and knife. Lovely and fresh too. My husband's breakfast was okay too but could have made a pair of shoes from the bacon. Prices pretty good. All in all though the place was clean, service quick enough, but the lack of toilets and shortage of food so early would probably stop me going back.

This place has a central location, good food (Giant Yorkshire pudding with filling). Great value. The staff were a little abrupt, but not rude. The fabric of the building and décor were in poor condition, but I wouldn't stay away.

The fish and chips were very good but if you sit downstairs it's like eating in the middle of a shop with everyone coming in to buy their takeaways

There's nothing "flash" about this place. It's clean and the service is good, staff very friendly and helpful. We've eaten there several times and found it to be good value with plain, tasty food.

On a Saturday afternoon the place was empty, that should have been a clue! Shabby, tired looking interior and not that clean. We did intend to eat but quickly changed our minds and just had a coffee while we made plans to go elsewhere to eat. Coffee not bad but we would never return nor recommend.

The cafe prices are ludicrous. £3.45 for a toasted tea cake with barely any fruit in it is ridiculous as is a fiver for two cups of tea and £9 for a cooked breakfast!! The staff are not the most pleasant either. Sadly the shop and garden centre prices are way off the scale too compared to most other garden centres. Definitely would not recommend or revisit.

Called in at lunchtime for a couple of drinks. This is the second time but no more. A man, the same on both occasions standing at bar had the foulest loud mouth He was actually talking to the barman and two others Every other word began with "f' He had a dog with him This time he pulled seat out at one of the tables for his dog to sit at Absolutely disgusting. My husband mentioned to barman who grinned and apologised Not good enough

Nice little hotel bar right on the Main Street of Alnwick I had drink several times during our stay in Alnwick. Margaret had the chilli which she said was nice. I wasn’t hungry so had the potato skins which came with a barbecue sauce and garlic mayo, which were ok but out of a bottle.

Popped in for lunch on a day over to Lindisfarne. Despite advertising that they cater for gluten free, a disappointing menu. When I asked at the bar if they do anything gluten free, the barman said that anything gluten free will have GF after it on menu, but they can do any sandwich with gluten free bread. There were no meals suitable on menu, so I went back to bar and asked if their spread was dairy free. Barmaid gives a big sigh and goes to check. Comes back to say yes it is, what do you want- like it was a big inconvenience for her. It’s not my husbands fault that he has allergies. Such attitude makes me wonder how anyone goes back here. Sarnie was ok but they didnt seem to do it separate to normal food as hubby found a bit of grated cheese attached to his bread. If he hadn’t spotted it, he would have been I’ll. overpriced too as the bread was just normal sliced bread. WONT BE GOING BACK!
