Copper Still in Edinburgh, City of

The best cooked breakfast we have eaten in a long time ! Friendly and accommodating staff, we arrived toward the cut-off time for breakfasts and were seated right away. Everything was freshly cooked and perfect. The drinks were also very good and well presented. Highly recommended.

Great restaurant, perfectly located. The waitress was very friendly and accommodating. I ordered haggis there, I was a bit afraid of what to expect, but it was beautifully presented and tasted excellent :) with a cider and I was happy :) I sat right by the window, at a corner table with a corner bench, which was great was casual. The only small drawback (for me) was that every time the door was opened, I immediately felt the gust of wind. That was a bit uncomfortable, but at the same time it speaks for the restaurant, because there were a lot of guests ;)

I could literally eat the Cullin Skink and Cabrese Salad every day of the week! It was delicious!

Cozy and warm restaurant with beautiful decor and friendly staff to match. Catered to allergies too. My husband enjoyed his generous serve of fish and chips with peas. My steak sandwhich was the best I've had in a while (even with a soft and fluffy long gf roll). Absolutely delicious, tender and with a smokiness that finished it off beautifully. Even the salad/dressing and chips were mouthwatering to match. Cheescake was light and fluffy and beautifully presented. Drinks were also lovely. Definitely recommend the Highlander cocktail. Very poor service, staff couldn't care about your custom

It was called the royal mcgregor when I went and it was worth the price and quality.

Great place for dinner on the Royal Mile. Was perfect after our tour of Edinburgh Castle.

Very good service and a good choice for vegetarians. Elderflower cider was a great discovery! Pricing above the average, due to the Royal Mile I guess. Keep up the good work.

Waited 10 minutes, no one acknowledged us at all, took the orders from the 2 other people that came in behind us.

We were very pleased with everything. Super good food. Tasted fresh. We particularly loved the grilled chicken and sourdough bread. Yum!

This place is solid and the staff are super nice. Food is good but don’t waste your money on any of the salads… opt for the steak and ale pie or the burger. No annoying kids either so that’s a plus!

The service is good and the environment too. However, the meal is not good value for money. It's expensive and only reasonable.

4 of us ate here during our visit to Ed Fringe. 2 of us had the fish fingers sandwich with a side of chips which was delicious. The desert menu looked tempting so 2 of us had cheesecake of the day and 1 Eton mess. The cheesecake was divine. Service was very good despite it being busy, staff very friendly. The place had a pleasant atmosphere.

The food here was so delicious we came twice during our stay. We wandered in because of a tour we were meeting just outside in a couple hours. The fish dishes and soups we had both evenings were great. Staff were pleasant and quick to attend to patrons. Would recommend!

Ambience okay...service really good.... Food bland and listless and extremely expensive. see photo A mini portion of pasta with a bit of chicken... for so much money 21 pounds (around €24) is currently outrageous for us and it was definitely not worth it. Haggis on puree with water from pack, in maxi muffin size 19 pounds approx. 21€...phew 75€ for what you can see in the picture...this is available in duplicate at Gorden Ramsey in St. Andrews Square. But see for yourself... You get ripped off wherever possible in Edinburgh, but that was really cheeky. In addition, the discretionary service..."voluntary" is limited. It is a fixed point on the bill. It is very questionable whether the employees will get the money. The ladies were a little too secretive about the topic. Go to the side streets (closes) and the outskirts, where it is more recommended and acceptable for the price.

We visited this venue twice during the Fringe. We ate well on both occasions and would not hesitate to return. Attractive dining room or outside seated area when the weather permits. Separate breakfast and lunch menus, both filled with well presented and tasty meals. Lovely staff who were attentive and fun.

Great place, you'd think being on the Royal Mile, they'd risk being a tourist trap, but the food and service was great. Pro tip, get the steak sandwich, bloody fantastic

Maybe the worst breakfast we had during our stay in Scotland.

No pricing on the menu, took absolutely ages to get served our drinks and even longer for the steak, the steak was fatty and vulgar, one of the women that worked there with bleached blonde hair was to busy knocking shots back behind the bar and swearing to herself, absolutely over priced I would not recommend this place

I dined here twice while visiting Edinburgh. As an American trying Haggis for the first time I was pleasantly surprised on how good it was. This place also makes a good breakfast and great Cocktails.

We sat outside and ordered charcuterie and beers. Then a seagull came and stole the food and spilled the beer. When we asked for a new beer the staff was very unfriendly and we got the cheapest beer they had, not what we ordered. In the end we had to pay 65 pounds for 4 beers, one of those beers was spilled by the bird, and one charcuterie that the bird ate. They also charged 10% extra for service. We asked: so 10% extra for 4 beers and ruined food? They said yes that is correct. VERY OVERPRICED AND UNFRIENDLY. DON'T GO HERE.

Very nice place, very delicious food and cocktails too. The portions are fair for one person even though they look small.

Good spot for Scottish traditional dishes (Cullen skink, haggis, etc) and of course fish and chips (the fish was great, a bit light on chips and peas). Big variety of beers and the whole bar is decorated with copper! Located on royal mile, the place is packed with tourists and locals.

We loved our dinner and drinks! Our reserved table at the front window was ready when we arrived, the service was great, and our food was delicious! Don't miss the Smoked Old Fashioned cocktail, the Scottish Salmon, or the Sticky Toffee Pudding! Great options for kids, too!

i have eaten here a couple of times now, first visit was 2 years ago which wasn't the best experiences the food quality, presentation, speed of service all disappointing. fast forward to now, i couldn't fault any of it, i tried the sea bass dish and wow it was the cleanest,freshest meal i think ive ever had everything complimented each other on the plate and the portion size was perfect. the service was attentive and friend. the drinks would be what you would expect in a classy cocktail bar. prices have went up but that is expected. whatever has happened since my first visit until now has worked, most like a new chef or new team. to that i say bravo i look forward to my next visit

It is worth visiting only once during your trip

Everything is excellent! We ate a hamburger, delicious, and the attention was truly 10 points. Highly recommended, and the place is very comfortable and beautiful.

Just had our first full Scottish breakfast and loved it. Amazing food specially the haggis with the breakfast was amazing.

Long wait to be served. Mediocre food. I found a plastic shard in one of the dishes.

We sat down at 12:00 and didn't receive our first dish, a seafood chowder starter, until 12:50. The remaining two main courses were served around 13:20, and we finally left at 14:00. If this were a fine dining restaurant with incredible flavors, I might have been more forgiving. However, it’s clear that the kitchen is not running efficiently. The soup was the only enjoyable part; the rest of the meal was disappointing.

If I could give no stars I would 30 minutes to get a drink nearly an hour for food to arrive which I wish it hadn’t chips tasted reheated fish batter was awful my partner had a burger bun was clearly burnt to bits burger was also over cooked appalling food and service never not eaten a meal until now

Finding Copper Still on the Royal Mile was a highlight of my trip, we came back many times after! The place has a welcoming vibe and amazing Edinburgh art on the wall, that makes you feel at ease the moment you walk in, blending a traditional Scottish feel with a modern twist. The cocktails were a hit right from the start. Each one was expertly crafted, showing off a mix of classic and innovative flavors that were both refreshing and complex. It's clear the bartenders here know their craft. Speaking of meals, the fish and chips were exceptional. The fish was perfectly cooked, with a golden, crispy batter that didn't skimp on flavour, while the chips were the right good! It's a simple dish, but Copper Still elevates it to something special. The Cranachan was another standout, offering a taste of Scotland with its rich combination of cream, whisky, honey, and raspberries. It was the first time trying it and won’t be my last, It was a delightful end to the meal! The Chicken with Mushroom Sauce was also memorable. The chicken was tender and flavorful, and the mushroom sauce added a rich, creamy element that brought the dish together beautifully. It's the kind of comfort food you'd come back for. Copper Still offers more than just good food and drinks; it provides a genuinely enjoyable dining experience. The atmosphere is cozy, the staff friendly and attentive, and the menu is great and has authentic Scottish food!

Great dinner on the Royal Mile!

Service is terrible 26minutes to get a drink from ordering. (Only 2 drinks to be made) no apology for the long wait time, it was not busy when we entered. No children/baby's allowed in the restaurant?, 2 couples with children where ulturned away while we were eating. Food was good.

Small but fine restaurant in the middle of Edinburgh city center. At first we were worried that it was a typical tourist bar. The opposite was the case. Lovingly furnished, great food, absolutely friendly staff with great service. Absolutely reasonable prices for the location and quality. It was a pleasure.

We had a really good brunch here. A cozy magical little place. It is worth coming early, because then there are still few people and the service is faster. Salmon eggs benedict was my favorite!

This place is one of the first we visited in Edinburgh. And now we come here often. Very nice atmosphere, usually good service (sometimes there are new girls) and delicious food. My husband likes steak, it's always well cooked. I take different dishes and have never been disappointed. And they have great cocktails.

The place, atmosphere and service is good. The food is not that good for my taste. We ordered the Scottish breakfast and the beans were too sweet and the bread was very hard. We also ordered the eggs benedict with avocado but the truth is they were very simple. The coffee is good.

We waited a long time for two plates of food, which was not the best for its price.

We wanted to have dinner, they told us to wait 30 minutes because it was full and when we went back they told us that the kitchen was closed. They have wasted our time for no reason.

Despite this restaurant being located in a tourist area, the food was delicious. The staff were friendly and explained about Scottish food very well. We ordered Haggis, Steak Ale Pie, and Chicken with mushroom sauce. All menus we had was great. Highly recommended.

One of few places that offer food after 9 pm on the Royal mile. Probably not after 9:30 pm. The ɓurgers are very, very good. The staff is friendly. We order the Cranachan dessert but it's almost all cream with little flavour and almost no whisky. Overall a good place if you are not into pub atmosphere.

Came here one of our first days in Edinburgh. I had the Haggis with neeps and tatties my wife had the vegetarian version. We read some of the bad reviews about service and some other stuff. Disregard!! The server Scott was personable and super friendly. As we later found out dining in Scotland is less hurried as in the states. Food was excellent. Highly recommend.

Everything could have been perfect until we refused cash Vs the credit card. I had withdrawn precisely for shopping, pubs and restaurants and for drinking.... but to believe that it's not like in France.

Luckily we found a seat after a sort of via crucis between fully booked pubs. The hamburger was good, the beer recommended by the waitress was excellent. Fast and punctual service

Very good restaurant. We arrived this morning at 7:30 a.m. so at 9:00 a.m. we arrived at your establishment. We had breakfast and it was delicious. Becon, hahhis, egg and many other things, we enjoyed ourselves so much that we didn't eat at lunch. Thank you for this morning.

The Cullen Skink was the best thing we ate on our trip.

We popped in on a Sunday night when they had a special - the roast. It was delicious. We also ordered sourdough bread to start. The servers here are very attentive - they came by to make sure we were happy with our food and few times. Many places were booked and said you had to have a reservation to get a table but thankfully they were able to seat us right away.

We went to this place for dinner because we found it recommended in a restaurant guide. Friendliness and good atmosphere but the food left something to be desired. We ordered a burger and it literally tasted smoky (the bun was burnt). Very normal nachos.

I’ve tried getting Service from Copper Still three times and have yet to be served. The first time I saw they were open till 12 AM so I walk in at 10 PM and I’m starving. They say sorry we’re not serving food AND we’re closing in 10 minutes. I say OK no problem. Must’ve just been a slow night and I understand that they weren’t serving food that late so we went somewhere else. Next time I come in at 10 PM only for drinks, and as soon as I walk in, they say we’re closing in five minutes. So we have to leave. The third time was today, We walk in at 4PM for a late lunch. We asked to sit on the patio. They say no problem and give us our menus. Then no one takes our order or checks on us for 20 minutes. We ended up leaving to go across the street instead (where we were severed within 5 minutes). So don’t waste your at Copper Still time. horrible, horrible, horrible service all three tries.

Expensive food but good atmosphere

Visited this lovely bar/restaurant last night, and the food was delicious I can’t fault it in anyway at all. We started with the sharing platter of nachos and there was more than enough for two of us, then we both had the steak and ale pie which was superb. The staff were great, very friendly and welcoming. Pop in for a bite to eat, you won’t regret it.

The Guinness beer is very smooth. I recommend this shop. The atmosphere is nice and the staff welcomes everyone. The cheese board is very delicious. 10/10

We popped into the Copper Still on our way back from visiting Edinburgh Castle and before heading off to the airport, with the sole intention of having a last bowl of Cullen Skink. Unfortunately, they were out, hence the 4 stars. The food we did have was great, as was the service and ambience. Just a little disappointed at the lack of Skink!

Food was good, service friendly. Benches/seats were unfortunately very tight (we were 3 large people) but waitress did her best to change our seats when it was feasible. Overall a nice place to come, and very conveniently located just on the royal mile.

Had the Sunday Roast, it was delicious and the service was great. Will come back next time I'm here.

Fantastic place to stop for lunch after visiting the castle. The vibe was great and it had a great atmosphere. Definitely recommend stopping here for a quick bite to eat or grabbing a cold drink.

Food was tepid warm and as it took So Long couldn’t be bothered asking for it reheated or replaced. Drinks were mediocre at best. Definitely not proper measuring of spirits either. Service lacklustre and impersonal.

Took my mum here for a mothers day treat. Lovely ambience, wasnt busy when we were in so were served very quickly, by extremely professional staff. But the best bit was the food. Oh my, it was absolutely incredible! Reasonably priced too, especially given its pinpoint central location.

First time in Edinburgh and came here for our first meal. It was absolutely incredible and we were also blown away by how lovely the staff were. The vibe of the place is chilled and decor is stylish and inviting. We were thinking to leave a review during our visit but wanted to finish our food instead! Thanks!
