Stumbled on this little gem by total accident - it was stormy outside with rain and wind and we needed somewhere warm to half a cuppa and by kids some breakfast. Reading the previous review, they said staff were not engaging - honestly it was the complete opposite for us, the ladies had such warmth and friendlyness that my 10 year old asked why everybody in Middlesbrough was so friendly? (We are from London and was visiting for work) The food was as good as any other cafe and the selection was plentiful. I did think the portions however were a on the smaller side perhaps but honestly you couldn't fault it for anything else. I loved the quiet, non-instrusive music which was played in the background rather than taking over the ambience. All on all, a pleasant visit with lovely staff and reasonable prices. Thank you.

Really disappointed with today's visit. My jacket potato was so burnt I couldn't eat the skin and I love a crispy skin! The staff weren't very engaging and didn't seem to want to be there Only thing stopping it being 1☆ was the price Won't be returning

I'm shocked by the closing of this cafe, ten years i went there. It was popular, yet for some reason Cooplands just decided to shut it down. I will miss the place and the staff as well.

Went in here to try their breakfast saw their meat pies and veg on offer on entry which looked unappealing so opted for the breakfast which tbh was completely over cooked small hard sausages Luke warm beans and bacon like cardboard absolute crap chopped tinned tomatoes Luke warm also eggs were ok probably the only fresh thing on the plate the hash browns seemed to be deep fried along with the oily black pudding at just over six quid this was spared a complaint but I will not be eating this again !!

Called here for a rest and a drink and a break from xmas shopping ,only a handful in say no more than 15,we ordered drinks and breakfast buns but still had to wait 10/15 minutes for food and i did ask the girl who served me and she said its in order and in the Que as was dealing with other orders first never been a problem before maybe short staffed in cooks department ,for me still not worth what we paid, not my choice but other family like it here, small cups and mugs and breakfast buns small ,usually only come here as plenty of seats and other party want to.

Peaceful oasis in the heart of town, my favourite place to enjoy a cuppa and some grub while out shopping. Nice chilled out vibe and slow pace make for welcome respite from the hussle and bussle outside, the staff are super friendly too. Not sure about the avocado/mint colour scheme inside though but each to their own! This cafe is Middlesbrough town centre's hidden gem.

Visited for lunch with family. Don't go expecting posh, the décor in the café is dated, but what it lacks in style it makes up for in quality of food and friendliness of staff. Home cooked pies, quiche, breakfasts made to order, or lighter bites, sandwiches, sausage rolls etc. The carrot cake was delicious. Staff made you feel welcome and made a point of saying goodbye as you left. Reminds me of one of those lovely old fashioned cafes I would go to as a kid.

First time visiting this cafe and will be my last. I only went in for a coke they ran out of cola in there machine so they gave us a can of coke instead. They gave us a cup to pour our cans into and the cup was way to big for the can of coke they gave us. The staff was stood around talking to while the floor and tables was filthy cleanliness is a big thing for me when I visit cafes or restaurants and if they spent less time talking and more cleaning then the place to would be nice. To top is off I went into the mens toilet and the stench from it was horrible I had to hold my breath it smelt like it hadn't been cleaned in years. I will neve be visiting this place again

Only spotted this place earlier today and stopped off for dinner. The mince and dumplings in the hot counter looked really good, but I only wanted something light for my dinner break so I ordered a jacket with tuna mayo. These type of cafés are usually great for that sort of meal so I was disappointed to find that it wasn't nice at all. If there was butter in it, then you couldn't tell, it must have been the thinnest scraping ever! I can only assume that the person who buttered it has never eaten a jacket potato before...It was just a large, really dry potato with a bit of tuna on top and I had trouble getting it down. The salad was fresh but for some reason they only used frisee lettuce, which is the stringy, really bitter lettuce that is not usually served as the only leaf on a salad. The meal was nearly a fiver as well, so it's not the cheapest option in town. Unfortunately it was horrible and I really didn't enjoy my meal at all, which is unsurprising as it was basically a huge dry potato with some very bitter lettuce. The brownie was quite nice though. Staff were pleasant enough. I would maybe come here again as the other stuff looked great, but I definitely wouldn't order the jacket potato. Maybe worth bearing in mind if you're thinking of eating here.

Great value and would recommend. Its Cooplands cafe so you can get all the usual cakes etc. We had roast beef with Yorkshire pudding and at £5.50 each it was very reasonable. The portion sizes weren't huge but ideal for a lunch time. Would definately go back again and recommend.

Some of the early reviews are scathing about the quality of the food, I can only say the place must have really pulled itself up since then as the food we had was excellent. We are elderly and were very pleased to find that there was a lift as stairs are not a strong point at our age. The food was ordered at the counter but brought to the table for us. There was enough tea and hot water for a couple of mugs each. The plates are on the small side compared to some dinner plates but for a lunchtime they are adequate. We will certainly go back.

Called in Friday afternoon shepherd pie roast potatoes n gravy sounds lovely oh no burnt dried out shepherds pie few brown potatoes straight out of deep fat drier covered the whole lot covered in dark brown jelly presentation is everything and as soon as it was put in front of me I told my daughter that is inedible after tasting it I was right my daughter tasted and said same. We left with the meal untouched and went to Greggs for a pasty. Nobody came to ask if the food was ok after we were served so left without comment I wonder if the staff gave a second thought when they seen the untouched meal. The staff here were very pleasant but it comes to a time when they need to say this food is ready for the bin instead of carrying on serving it up to the public when it’s past it. Money down the drain, won’t be returning which is a shame as coopers is my favourite bakery and I thought their cafe would be equally as good

Dont be put off by the stairs as there is a lift option nearby. Yes this cafe is busy but I would guess thats due to its popularity. There are starter, main and pudding options available which are served with prompt efficiency although there were a lack of girls serving. Its better if your dining with someone so they can keep the table while you queue for the order. However finding a table has never been an issue.

Stayed the night here, Car park is very large which is good. But make sure you enter your vehicle reg in the tablet job again upon check in at reception. Check in fine. Room, stinks of drainage / damp. Bed hard as a rock. Double bed is actually two singles together with gap in the middle. Cock porridge up the wall as per pic. Dirty. Bathroom - mould and hair about. Water pressure good though. Shower, too low and basically touches your head and very dated. Overall, rubbish sleep, doors banging in corridor as well, wouldn't stay again.
