It is a historic venue frequented almost exclusively by local customers. It was the first time I tried it, but I wasn't thrilled. Everything tasted the same because of the parsley sauce, and the quiche also had a similar texture for the same reason. However, the prices are low, so it's a cheap option to sample a typical London meal.

This food was vile. I don’t know how you British animals eat this gunk. Never in my life have I felt closer to a farm animal than when I had this unholy mound of mush sitting in front of me like a pig at a trough. Absolutely filthy don’t go here if you’re looking for something that classifies as food, if you’re in the mood for sewage with a side of poop and cardboard this might be the place for you though.

Love the old vibe BUT... terrible sloppy customer service (the woman behind the counter was covered in nasty stains and leaning on the counter ) and sloppy food presentstion. The pies are often overcooked, they just scrape the mash against the side of the plate and then throw the gravy/liquor on and don't give a damn about lazy spills on the side of the plate. They then charge up to £12 for it. I mean for that price I don't expect the ritz. But I expect some simple respect for the customer and that their plate of food they are paying for should at least look better than a slop bowl like Oliver Twist or a concentration camp prisoner would be given.

The year is 2025 AD. London food scene is entirely occupied by hipster's so called "tapas" style world food restaurants and soulless chains. Well, not entirely though! When digging well, we can still find some cockney places like F Cooke that serves the once traditional working-class food originating in the Docks of london: Pie, mash, and liquor. Don't expect anything fancy here,  but rather a canteen style shop with a limited - but tasty and satiating- selection on a board menu, tiled walls decorated with mirrors, wooden benches, and marble table tops. On the menu, homemade meat pies, classic mash potato, jellied eels and a rather strong-flavoured -but not overpowering- parsley sauce called liquor, as well as the no less famous non-brewed Vinney vinegar... Cup of tea or coffee on the side... Unexpectedly, they also offer a vegan option! Worth every penny, delectable, straighforward service and pleasant staff... In addition, you get to experience a part of london that's about to be history.

Being from the US and enjoying YouTube restaurants reviews I have watched F Cooke Pie and Mash in several videos. So being fortunate to be in London for a few days I just had to stop in and try it with my elderly, hyper-fussy eater father. We each had the standard pie and mash with "liquor" (a parsley fish sauce) on the side which was soon added to mine. The food was simple but amazing the texture and flavor of the beef stood out. Even my fussy eater father enjoyed it (not a fan of the liquor though didn't hate it, he just didn't like it) If I lived in London this would be in my regular rotation.

A recent wee visit to a London institution. Proper East London experience at F Cooke Pie And Mash Hoxton. Had the pleasure of spending some time with the owner, a fourth generation of Cooke’s, Joe himself. This is a great wee spot, leave your airs & graces at home because this Pie & Mash cafe has been serving the same honest fare for generations; there aren’t any variations, although I did have the vegetarian pie…. Hands down my absolute favorite spot to eat during my entire trip to London. Like many people, I learned of F Cooke from videos online years ago and had it marked down as a must-visit for whenever I made it to London and it was everything I could have asked for and more. Came in for lunch on a weekday, shop was nice and quiet with only a few people enjoying their lunch. The gal behind the counter was super friendly and had me feeling like I was being served in my own kitchen. Joe, the owner, whom I had seen in countless videos, was enjoying a cup of tea at a table and noticed my non-English accent. He sparked up a conversation and it made my trip. He was so welcoming. My quest was to have a pie everyday while in London - from the classic spots to the high end fancy places and this one beat them all. It was just perfect. Everything a pie, mash, and liquor needed to be. Simple and made so well. I just can't say enough about how much I enjoyed being in this shop. Thank you Joe & Team!

Went today 18/7/24 and was really looking forward to it. Considering Pie and Mash establishments are dying in the East End you'd think more care would be taken with this Hoxton branch but it appears not. I can't think why it has so many rave reviews. Dirty, dirty, dirty. I had to clean food stains off out table, at this point I would of left but didn't want to create a fuss for those I was with. Table next to us waitress clears plates but leaves loads of food spillage on the table. Not good. A senior man at one table rolling up meat with his bare hand to make what looked like burgers. Have these people not heard of catering gloves? The food was nice despite all this, and plenty of people there but it just felt mucky and unclean. No wonder Pie and Mash shops are dying because this was a disgrace. I won't be back.

I visited shop 2 weeks ago I have just lost my mum and was not aware of time but were customers still sat there before I could say anything the woman behind the counter started shouting at me and embarrassed me …she was so rude shouting we are closed …and no vegan pies left …I am in my early 50,s with children older then this woman !!! I left there angry it was on Saturday 4-4-24 it was around 5pm and did not state place was closing …I left there angry the way I spoken to for no reason . I left situation down to the fact the woman had a stressful day at work . Yesterday I was in the area again and went into shop At around 2pm as soon as I entered shop there was someone in front I went to counter to order and this awful woman started on me again this time due the way I was queuing up not my problem if shop is not laid at properly I tried to move and women started shouting at me again advising I was in the way and embarrassed me in front of other customers again . I am going to be honest the women just didn’t like the look of me 2 weeks ago and yesterday I have never experienced this type of behaviour the women is crazy or she is racist which I honestly believe. I left shop upset and tried to call owner but didn’t answer and also complained on instagram. I have never had any problems with Pie mash shop in Roman road they are so friendly I will be definitely going there today . I have never experienced such aggressive behaviour by someone who works with the general public should be dismissed…doesn’t know how to deal with customers she was was jealous of my appearance I could see the way she behaved I didn’t have a chance … Awful behaviour !!!

The pie shop was an easy bus ride from London Bridge to Hoxton Road. It is on a main street with other shops in the area. We both ordered two small pies, drinks and hubs added on jellied eels. I asked for my liquor on the side and I'm glad as I preferred just a little bit on my pie. The mashed potatoes were wonderful and the thin crispy pie pastry was a surprise. There are nine or so wide tables in the diner-like restaurant, which makes it great for groups. The prices are also very affordable and as tourists it was nice to catch a great deal on good food 🙂 We read about the restaurant online and decided to make it part of our vacation plans!

Despite living in London most of my life, I had never been to a traditional pie & mash place. Definitely an interesting atmosphere - full of local characters and friendly staff. But the food was not to my taste. Pie tasted good, although my large pie had only about 4 small bits of meat. Mash was very plain, no butter or anything, just potatoes and water, and the liquor was a definite no for me. Just bland liquid with a hint of parsley. It is dirt cheap, and the food matched the price in my opinion.

This fourth generation Pie & Mash shop is one of the originals, and the brand name dates back as far as 1841. The Hoxton branch is located approximately 15 mins walk from Old Street Station, and its traditional green frontal is not hard to miss. Upon arrival, there was no queue to enter. Service was quick and friendly with the usual can drinks on offer. I went for the standard Double-Double, which came to £13.50 with a drink. There was a portion of liquor under both pies, but i feel a little more could have been provided. Pies were pipping hot, but I felt the meat was over seasoned and more salty than usual. As soon as you enter you enter a mobile black spot, but maybe that's a good thing to encourage good old-fashioned conversation. Plenty of locals about and always a friendly face behind the counter. It’s actually nice, better than the appearance. Not fishy at all. Just natural flavor. I actually like the texture lol, especially as someone who loves fish skin. I can actually imagine it in a Michelin star restaurant with British history theme— transparent jelly, floating piece of eel, flowers, drop of liquor sauce lol. The pie is also unique. Not the more common pub versions. Looks and tastes like minced beef dumpling soaked in parsley soup. Mash is nice, solid potato and not too oily with extra cream or butter. Chili vinegar is tasty. The pie can be slightly warmer though.

tasty ,good quality , we can enjoy old Londons common foods. It’s precious experience today and for future. Almost good except one female staff (Cold and dry treatment ) うなぎはやっぱり日本の食べ方の方が100万倍美味いと思った。
