Union Jack Club in Hackney

First time of staying overnight, and sad to say it was disappointing. Good & bad to report. Firstly the bad, the room was SO hot, but we overlooked that, but not having a decent sleep was our main issue. Room doors banging randomly during the night. Noisy pipework began at around 0600hrs and continued until we finally couldn't take anymore and got up early! Along with the hot room, we just didn't sleep well at all and were both shattered the next day. The good. Cleanliness & food. Both were very good. Obviously being veterans, we love all thinks UJC and what it stands for. Unfortunately however, we won't be staying overnight again, but may frequent the restaurant & bar. Travel Lodge in comparison is much better for a good night's sleep! Over and out.

Great place to eat drink and stay over night. And it's a great place to meet serving and ex serving members of our proud armed services. I highly recommend the Union Jack club just for that. And it's a great way to say thank you to all those who have served. Sadly I can no longer visit the UJC as the three people I knew that could get me in who were Ex-Army have since passed away. RIP Guys your service to your country and your friendship will never be forgotten. 👍👮👮👮👍

Amazing location, staff and service. Our first time of using the Union Jack Club. Had an extended weekends stay last weekend and it did not disappoint. We will most certainly be back. Keep doing what you do, excellent customer service and welcoming reception.

Hotel is right in the heart of London, directly across the road from Waterloo. The location is fantastic. However, upon check in the receptionist was more interested in her mobile phone messages than checking us in. Her phone was open on the desk and she was scanning and reading her messages whilst she processed our room cards. This for me is unprofessional. The room is basic but fine. Views really good across London. Pillows lumpy bumpy and uncomfortable and the room was like a sauna. The cleaner hadn’t done a good job and a used sanitary towel had been left in the bin The hotel communal areas were clean and well presented and the toilets downstairs clearly recently refurbished and were modern. Yet to have breakfast as I’m awake during the night writing this as the heating generator is so loud I’ve had a terrible nights sleep.

Couldn’t ask for a better fairly priced hotel in the heart of London, great location down the road from Waterloo! Staff were great and attentive and the bar was definitely a bonus!

Right in the heart of London! A welcoming and caring staff, great rates for single rooms if you need somewhere central, modestly prices drink and food, I wish my veteran mate had told me about it sooner!

Spotless hotel, rooms are great and bathrooms are spacious and clean, very comfortable beds, great seating areas, bar and restaurant. Staff are fantastic and friendly, felt really safe and at home here and I’m looking forward to returning!

What a fantastic place. Well served restaurant and bar. Staff uniforms were a nice touch. Rooms very clean and a fabulous shower in the bathroom. We had a lovely view across the city.

Nice club, nice bar, barman could have done with some help in the function room bar downstairs, very busy on his own. Food was awesome.

If you're an ex serviceman/woman then join the UJC. You won't get a better location in London for the price. Perfect for a trip up to see LondonTheatre Shows or attractions or in fact, to attend the many lectures/presentations given by the Club. Great venue

The UJC is a real essential for myself and the AF community. Great views over Westminster and the City, great location.

Arrived at Waterloo and right to the hotel clean rooms plenty of staff on to help if needed breakfast was great will be back again

As a member it's my go to place when visiting the smoke brilliant location, lovely food and friendly service.

UJC and the Veterans Rail Card are the two biggest perks after leaving the forces, hands down.

It’s the UJC. You know what it is you’ve heard of it or you know someone who has. It’s perfect for what it is and an invaluable benefit to the forces community. Long May it continue.

Fab hotel in a great location. Rooms clean and tidy. The var is well priced for London and the restaurant food is good.

Invited by some very close friends, we had a GREAT lunch/dinner here. Service was excellent and the quality of the meal was excellent. No complaints whatsoever.

Only recently got membership at the Union Jack Club... really clean, good value rooms in a great location. Just opposite Waterloo Station so easy to get around. Staff friendly and breakfast is brill.

Staying in London on business I have stayed here but find the single rooms very claustrophobic if I were to upgrade to a double room this would cost me an extra £56 per night and the cost doesn’t even include breakfast which another club in London does!

The whole experience was excellent.

As a regular one a year visitor it's suffice to say that a warm welcome, great bar and restaurant service is given every time. This club has been servicing NCO's and other ranks since before WW1 so they know what to do!! One special highlight in the entrance area is the pictures of individual VC holders plus a top to tail list of VC holders on a separate display.

I have had a very positive experience on my first visit.

If you are a current service person or a veteran, why would you stay anywhere else? Best value in London for accommodation, bar and restaurant. Plus all the added value of the fantastic facilities and staff. 5 stars.

Great hotel, brilliant location. Rooms are of good standard, the bar area is great for food and relaxing before getting train home. Staff very friendly too.

Unexpectedly brilliant, spotless and well maintained room was perfect especially the en suite shower!!! Breakfast was lush all staff were great!!!

I was a guest of my husband who's a member, definitely going to get my membership now. Such a great place, centrally licatd, wonderfully clean and spacious with staff who couldn't do enough for you. I last stayed here in 1983 but definitely won't wait so long for my next visit. Thankyou UJC x

A brilliant place if you are lucky enough to have access. As cheap if not cheaper than any hotel you can find and much better service / utilities BUT this is a place for staying and visiting elsewhere not a “destination hotel” , great bar etc but don’t expect a pool / spa- that said great (cheap) bar and in house restaurant. As above probably no where better to stay for the money anywhere in London m.

While attending a function here at the Union Jack Club, we enjoyed both the excellent service and food provided. This is a good location, easy to get to on public transport.

Always very clean. Staff and security are great. Such a pleasant place to stay for work or pleasure.

Great location and nice stay in central London. Rooms were a little hot with no AC so bare that in mind if staying in peak summer. They do have a fan in each room though. Tea/coffee making facilities in room and 2 x short bread biscuits.

Great breakfast in the club. Buffet arrangement for £13 which is great value in central London. The food was tasty and the service very friendly. You can only eat in here if you have served in the military, or are signed in by a member.

Fabulous ex servicemen club providing first class service by bar and restaurant. Comfortable bar area and quality restaurant serving a good selection of food and wine.

We stayed here last week as we were visiting family for the day. After a very long journey getting to London, we had a lovely surprise to find that we had been upgraded to a beautifully decorated and recently refurbished suite. It offered wonderful nighttime views of Central London - what a shame we were only staying for the one night. Our evening meal was well cooked and delicious, and breakfast the following day was just what we needed to set us up for the long day ahead. The waiting/bar staff were professional, helpful, and courteous as usual. This is always our go-to place to stay whenever we visit Central London. We look forward to visiting again soon

Amazing! Staff were lovely. Room was nice and tidy. Food was nice. Centre of London and very accessible to everything. Definitely recommend and will be going back.

A real gem for ex servicemen. Literally five minutes from the Thames and not much longer to many of the interesting sites on the North bank. Nice rooms, cheap and clean a lovey bar and restaurant with an excellent menu.

The UJC is perfect in every respect. Great value for money, especially when chain hotels are charging a lot more and delivering a poor experience. Breakfast is second to none! All you can eat and more or less everything you'd want. The staff are the real asset at the Union Jack Club, nothing is too much trouble for them.

If you are an active or former member of HM Armed Forces in Lo don for any reason this IS the place to stay, reasonably priced in every respect good food, clean tidy accommodation pleasant staff and a great central position.

Immaculate room (recently redecorated) and a proper shower. Cheap bar (v cheap by London standards) and breakfast worth eating. Highly recommended for serving and veterans.

I would call this place perfect, it has lovely rooms, great service, nice breakfasts and a lovely bar. it is near the waterloo tube station and is basically in walking distance to everywhere in central London. sadly I cant get membership as I am not a member or ex-member of the UK armed forces

Love this place, a sanctuary in the middle of the melay that is London. Perfectly sited for easy access to so many places. Great food and atmosphere, nothing too much trouble and rooms spotless.

This place isn't fit for purpose thanks to an absolute jobsworth throbber who fobbed me (a regular Army veteran) off left right a centre! Sent this wholly numerous documents/pictures etc to prove my service, fobbed me off and told me I have an attitude...appalling customer service, avoid!

This place is amazing. I feel so very privileged to have membership here. The armed forces looking after Veterans 😊👏😍. I'd be lost without this service, I use it weekly. The people are sublime, the same faces offering a warm welcome. Thank you all.

Great location, with tube station across the street, 10 - 15 min walk to Trafalgar & Westminster. Super clean, great staff who were very helpful.

We were only staying for a night as we were going to a show. We had booked a double room which had plenty of space & was clean & tidy so the boss was happy 😉 it which was very adequate for our needs with tea & coffee makings, hair dryer etc. We also had booked a table in the restaurant for the evening & we had a delicious meal served by the ever efficient waiting staff. The breakfast was also very good with a great selection 😋 After our show we returned to the UJC & had a couple of drinks in the bar area, which had plenty of seating & was very pleasant, though it was a bit busy due to a reunion, though still had plenty of seating. We have booked to stay again in June. Highly Recommended.

Excellent in every way, it's a great location, the staff are excellent, the rooms are big, the food is divine, and the prices are more than competitive for central London.

Went here as it was a training venue for a course. Surprisingly good and very close to Waterloo underground station, ultra convenient. Very good venue.

Have stayed multiple times and rooms have always been clean and comfortable, prices were decent and the bar area was good service.

A service club set up during the Crimean war to give comfort to soldiers on leave in, or passing through, london. Still a service club. It has developed significantly in recent years. No longer just open to the lower deck. If you don't know what that means neither this review or the club are of much interest to you. Pleasant bar on the ground floor has a nice atmosphere a bit like a sergeants mess circa 1980 and none the worse for that. The restaurant is superb with a very good and imaginative menu and well cooked food, served by exceptionally pleasant, well trained and smart staff. Like everywhere in London most of the staff are polite, smart, efficient and genuinely likeable east Europeans. The UJC has a smattering of former Gurka soldiers on the staff who also enhance the place and atmosphere. The rooms upstairs, 20 floors of them have been refurbished recently and are better than any budget hotel and many expensive ones. The prices are now about on par with cheaper hotels booked online. If you are in london and you qualify it should be your first call.

Great place to stay for a London break

This is a hotel for military services. This hotel is situated in Waterloo London it is a 5 minute walk from Waterloo Station.. It is a lovely clean hotel kept to a high standard. Staff friendly and helpful. We needed a taxi one night and receptionist gave us a number they regularly use. They have lifts for convenience. The rooms are really lovely and spacious with comfortable beds. We had breakfast on the two mornings we stayed and it was really nice and hot, buffet type breakfast and the waitress / waiters were really good and attentive.. We had a evening meal which was also really lovely.. In surrounding area there is places to visit and the London Eye is 15mins from this hotel and also the Thames Uber River boat ride.. Definitely going again..

I have been staying at this establishment since the mid '80's. I have never been disappointed, the staff are always welcoming, friendly and supportive. The restaurant provides competitive fare considering it is located in a world class city. The bar provides a great starting point to enjoy London's nightlife. The Club is located across the street from Waterloo Station, a major hub within the city's transportation system. The Club offers several room configurations and price points to accommodate all. Well worth the visit.
