We visited for an early lunch and decided to get the quiche and Salad, the quiche was flat with hardly any filling, have visited in the past and it was lovely, when i asked to change it the female staff member refused, had a bad attitude, not friendly or helpful at all. Considering we paid £14 for two people for awful food, we didn't get value for money. Still hungry when we left.

Hands straight onto my food and straight into 3 dishes of salad. No tongues or hand washing . She had been handling cash before this!

Went at 12.25 today only to be told (as have other times before) that they are sold out of chicken/sweetcorn sandwich filling..really..by 12.25 at the start of lunchtime trade!! Then got baked potatoe with Tune. Tuna portion was so small for my 3 year old I went back to ask to pay for another portion of tune. The manager/one of the owners impolite told me I'd have to buy another full meal and discard what we didn't want. Not customer centric or helpful and delivered in a very bad attitude and manner. Really!!! They couldn't let us buy a portion of tuna fir my little one???? Disgusting. Most places would look to maximise profit and look at providing more of what the customer prefers not discount their very fair request!!!! What a customer policy to have and this from 1 of the owners!! Also why are there toilets PERMANENTLY STILL CLOSED SO YOU HAVE TO WALK ALONG THE MALL THE THEUR TOILETS!

Very rude staff. Shouting at a disabled lady today who was obviously unwell. Tell her to get food first before sitting. Lots of free tables . Lots of the public were shocked and disgusted at the two members of floor staff. They behaved like bully s . Tried to email company rather than review but address not available

Used to be okay but went last week, fancied a bacon sandwich and a cuppa, could see the pre- cooked bacon, sausage, chips on display in bowls but decided to go with it anyway. Rude lady put bacon in microwave (2 slices each) and put it in bread bun. Ordered 1 coffee and paid at till a whopping £9.80 (2 bacon baps and one coffee). The baps were just air and the bacon was microwaved cooked with grey sloppy fat which I pulled off. Hunger no more satisfied than when I came in. Coffee was okay. What an absolute rip off, will not be going again.

Just popped in for a quick coffee and something to eat. The lass behind the food bar who was sorting the food out absolutely miserable and extremely rude. Never going back.

After putting in order a paying for it the asked me to take a seat which I did with my tea and Coffey for my father. After sitting for some time I realised everyone was getting their food except us . A waitress did ask me and tried to help but come out with one meal and the wrong one a said you will just have this as we haven’t got any of what you order left. As this point I asked for my money back . When I got to the till the lady said I had only asked for one meal luck I kept my receipt . She did give me my money back but minus the tea and Coffey which I left half drunk what a wast of time.

It was quiet when we visited, we ordered cheese and ham toastie, chips and two drinks. The chips were microwaved, and the toastie came in a bun with seeds! They failed to tell us this on ordering.. surely a toastie should come in bread, they stated they don’t serve bread. Staff member then went on to tittle tattle about it to her team member! Chav staff…dirty place… toilets out of order…!! Over priced heated up grub. Avoid!!

Visited the Cookery Nook three times this year on a Saturday pm.I had to join a queue which was always present during the length of our stay.Their choice of quickly prepared food was very good and the quality excellent.The serving staff were very engaging and polite in further explaining what was on offer and attentive to our needs.My wife and I enjoyed our totally different meals and will always go back to Cookery Nook

The food is pretty much as good as it was, but the attitude of staff is poor. A friendly welcome would make a big difference. It will be a while before we come back.

Visited this cafe today never again so unprofessional staff , shouting across the floor to each other , cleaning up floor making it obvious they wanted rid of you . Then shouting at old gentleman he had to sit outside he was obviously confused . Disgusting attitude

Waited ages to be served as staff were chatting amongst themselves, with only one person actually working. When I eventually did get to order I managed to ask for part of my order then the server walked away and started chatting to a colleague. Sheer ignorance!!! Another lady saw the look of disbelief on my face and took over the order or I would have walked out. I watched as she put a gloved hand into the serving dishes, no utensils were used, put my items on a plate then hand to someone. I then noticed the same woman serving the next customer putting her gloved hand into other items. At no time did she ever use sanitizer, rinse her gloved hands or change gloves. I had to ask did I wait or would it be brought to the table. A couple of minutes later my meal was brought to me, obviously after being microwaved. The meal itself was just ok, nothing special but the customer service was appalling and hygiene left a lot to be desired. I wouldn't return or recommend.

Low-quality good. Most of the staff (but not all) have the temperament of hungover dinner ladies. The place does have a more down-to-Earth feeling to it, which is lacking in the metro centre when compared to the endless horde of generic, clinical branded restaurants. But this feeling is closer to a burger can in the A1 than a family-ran place.

Food freezing cold after microwaving my quiche and chips they microwaved it again. I explained this to a lady on the till and her response was "well I only work here" in a unacceptable manner. I asked to speak with the manager who also appeared disinterested in what I had to say and offered my money back for the meal. She was unwilling to listen to my complaint so I spoke to the same manager again and stated it was not the money back I required and that I'd felt she was not listening to the fact I was unhappy with the way a member of staff had spoken to me. The manager apologised and eventually listened to me and advised she had spoken to the staff member. So... as I was leaving the cafe toilet that same girl was talking to a colleague about myself and that I had complained about my meal. She was standing in the cafe and customers were also around. No customer service skills, rude and disrespectful to customers. The manager stated she was not talking about me. However, at the time she was at an alternative side of the counter. And I heard with my own ears! Disgraceful!!!!! I wouldnt evan provide 1* due to the staff attitudes and this has upset me as I have came to this cafe when in metro centre for years and ate the same meal. Never had an issue before this. Seriously needs to sort staff attitudes

Felt disrespected as a foreigner.staff member slammed food saucer on till area table and pots of tea.then staff member asked as to sit in the outside area.when I asked staff member why she mentioned she wanted to clean.they were people sitting in the area and no signs what so ever @ mid-day .sorry but from my perspective I will not be visiting your store again and train your staff to treat everyone equally.

My wife and me pop into the cookery nook generally once a week She had a sandwich and i always have my favourite cheese scone which are always delicious.Called in yesterday and was given small containers of "fat spread" which was disgusting.I love butter on my scones and can only hope this was a temporary thing.

I love to visit here when staying with my sister who lives near to the Metro Centre! The food is always freshly made, varied to suit everyone and without lots of preservatives - my particular favourites (and memories) are corned beef pie (which I can't find locally in Scotland), their home-made coleslaw and afterwards peach melbas which are to die for!

Haven't been for a while so we decided to go here for a quick bite to eat. The staff are friendly and the place is clean. I had my sister visiting who is disabled so I had hired a wheel to make it easier for her to get around. The café is NOT wheelchair friendly. It's ok if you manage to get a table outside at the end but if you have to go inside it's like getting around an obstacle course.The food is basic sandwiches, pie, sausage rolls, cakes etc. I had the club sandwich minus the salami and my sister had what was suppose to be steak pie and chips. The pie had two pieces of meat in. My sandwich was tasteless. The chips are reheated in the microwave. We also had two pots of tea, this cost just under £16. I wish I had chosen somewhere else to eat.

Cookery Nook is always busy - and justifiably so. Helpful staff, a great choice of good food and very affordable. I had the quiche, and my son the jacket potato which he really enjoyed. Its not pretentious, just goofd food and good value.

We always eat at Cookery Nook when we visit the Metro Centre. The food is good, the staff are friendly and the prices are reasonable. Far better than the plastic places in the food courts.

Some of the food is ok, such as the soup, but the quiche is tasteless and bland with NO hint of cheese whatsoever. The pastry on pies etc is also very bland, but the most shocking thing is the bloke behind the counter grabbing chips from the storage tray WITH BARE HANDS and put them on a plate to put in a microwave to heat up, absolutely disgraceful. The staff are moody and pretty inept with obviously little or no training in the business. The only saving grace is the lovely cakes which are very tasty, unfortunately the lacksidaisical hygiene leaves you wondering.

Visited this morning ordered a full English breakfast and a sausage bap. The quality of the bacon & sausage were poor ( cheapest variety) that is how they tasted! The best part of our breakfast was the bread buns were very fresh and tasted lovely.

Called on a Saturday and even though the metrocentre was very busy we were able to get served and find a table no problem. Quiche with salad, sausage bun, tea and coffee for under a tenner!

I’d not been to this place for years and forgot how lovely the sandwiches were. We just wanted a snack to keep us going throughout a shopping trip and a visit here certainly did the trick. Really tasty bread loads of filling with a side of salad and coleslaw which was really refreshing and added more colour and texture. There are not many places in the metro centre which have stood the test of time but it’s not surprising this place is as popular as ever.

Love this place which doesnt have the airs and graces of some of the eating places at the metro centre. A cup of coffee and slice of caramel slice was still around £4.50 so by no means cheap but this place is the closest thing to home cooking hearty meals as you will get.You pay at the till then take your meal to your fairly ordinary table so if you expect to be waited on forget it. However there are never huge queues and the place is always welcoming. I will add photos later of the price board etc at a later time

Been here today for a light lunch while shopping with daughter I had ham sandwich with side salad which was lovely daughter had quiche and salad she said it was tasty staff were friendly and it was reasonably priced

We stopped off for a spot of lunch while shopping. It sells normal homemade food nothing too fussy. The prices are reasonable and the food is nice. They only accept cash so make sure you have some before ordering.

Called here for a light lunch. My son had a baked pot with tuna, while I had ham & cheese quiche. I've had better pastry but otherwise the quiche was fine. Cheap meals in the Metro centre - whats not to like?

Had a light lunch of vegetable soup which was lovely. Also had a huge scone with a cup of tea. Great price and helpful staff. Would recommend.

Quiet so called in for breakfast. Staff attentive and food good. Not the most up market place to eat, but serves good wholesome food. If you just want a quick bite to eat & drink, that doesn’t cost the earth, definitely recommended.

Esto es siempre un lugar popular, especialmente con las personas mayores. Es una buena relación calidad-precio y un menú para llevar también está disponible. Frecuentemente me dan un bocadillo de salchichas para llevar para el almuerzo, o si me quedo a comer, el desayuno frito es también muy buena relación calidad-precio. Hay una enorme selección de tartas preciosas, desde scones con nata y peach melbas, a una muy buena selección de sandwiches y comidas. El menú ofrece realmente una buena variedad.

Mi familia ha estado aquí el mes pasado, la experiencia fue horrible. El personal era maleducado, actuó raro, que preparan la comida por no usando guantes y actuar muy lento cuando les pedimos que re-nuestros sándwiches de calor. La otra señora que dice que, los sándwiches no caben en la máquina. Pero estaba claro que ella no quería utilizar porque ella no quiere limpiar la tostadora de nuevo. Hay que comer una hora antes de la hora de cierre. El pan que nos dieron eran muy difíciles de bocado y el café era insípida. Sus mesas y asientos estaban sucios. No le recomendaría este lugar a un desperdicio de dinero.

This is a great cafe whether you want a meal or just a sandwich. Good quality home cooking at a realistic price. Well worth a visit.

Este es Nietzsche ir a restaurante cuando en el metrocenter. Pasteles y bocadillos enormes crema. siguiente No probamos los bollos pero currant/porción de fruta es precioso. Buena taza de té y en una esquina del centro comercial así que no fuera demasiado footfall cafe. Comida para llevar disponible.

We fancied a snack during new sales and had been to this cafe before about 3years ago and it was good,unfortunately it's gone right back.dirty and poor quality food.coffee like dishwater and untasteable sandwiche.service without a smile or knife or serviette

We nipped in for out breakfast before our Metro Center Xmas shopping trip, We had a nice beans on toast and bacon sandwich, with water and fizzy drink, the service was speedy and the food piping hot, there is plenty of seating space both in the café and outside the main area, so finding a seat should not be a problem, as well as breakfast thay offer a lunch menu,. roast dinner, fish and chips, and other options, the pricing is very good and the food we had was good value for the money.

Hemos visitado el rincón de cocina en docenas de ocasiones a lo largo de los años y nunca me ha decepcionado. Genial, bocadillos frescos con una buena variedad y siempre acompañados de ensalada fresca y col. Mi madre, que tiene 91, le encanta aquí como es agradable y espacioso, con mucha luz. m

We were looking for a small tasty bite for lunch. It was very busy but we found a table. Quiche and salad was delicious. Just what we wanted.

I've been going there for years. My dad always has the breakfast and he's content to sit there with his coffee and read the paper whilst my mam does her shopping. The sandwiches and cakes are always first class and they'll happily do a toasted teacake for my mam who has Crohn's disease and has to be careful what she eats. My sister and I always share a slice of sly cake in memory of our younger sister as it was her favourite. Also it's one of the few places you can get a decent cup of decaf coffee. The staff are always very pleasant and the young girl clearing tables yesterday was doing a great job even though it was very busy.

Cheap & handy for quick lunch whilst shopping. Had cheese & onion quiche with side salad plus latte. £5.20. Table out on Mall so could people-watch. Clean & bright. No pretensions.

We visited here on our post Xmas shopping trip to the metro centre, the big advantage of this cafe is it opens early usually about a half hour or so before the shops. So you can have your food and be ready to hit the shops as soon as they open.The food portions were generous and hot, the staff knowledgeable and friendly, with quick service, This Cafe is located on the upper floor right next to the post office

Me and my family visited today and it as extremely busy we managed to get a table quite quickly ordered our food and sat down with our drinks. A lady came to clear the table but by mistake took a a cup of hot chocolate but quickly apologised and came back with another. 2 of the breakfasts came without beans which I asked for instead of the tomatoes we told the girl and quickly apologised and went to get us a side of beans. Despite the couple of mixups we can't complain the staff are just lovely and polite and the food is lovely too we always come here when we visit the metro centre it's great value for money.

We decided to try this cafe whilst shopping at the metro centre, situated in the green mall, near marks and spencers. The menu was quite extensive from light bites, sandwiches, jacket potatoes to meals, cold fridge stocked with drinks. Good choice of cakes. Reasonably priced. The staff were pleasant, plenty of seats. Worth a try.

and not in a good way - everything about it was a bit old fashioned and it didnt feel very hygenic either, the cakes and pasteries were in a refridgerated display so weren't soft and moist they were a bit hard due to being so cold! prices were reasonable but wouldnt be attracted to go back again

My brother & i popped in here for a quick bite to eat before shopping, we ordered 2 English breakfasts, really wish we hadn't of bothered. For £4.50 you got bacon, sausage, egg & 4 slices of cold very randomly placed tomato (not grilled or fried). I think the bacon had been blasted in the microwave because the very small plate was swimming in grease. You also got a bun??? I think the store cupboard must have been running low on supplies as there was no sign of toast, mushrooms, beans, black pudding or even a hash brown. Coffee was ok though.In all, a pretty poor dining experience that I will not be repeating.

We called in for lunch and a rest after shopping. This place is situated above M and S in the Green Mall. There is a great choice of fresh sandwiches, hot food, and jacket potatoes. Friendly service and reasonable prices make this a good place to visit.

Being near the end of the main Mall, this is the ideal place to have a cuppa before starting your shopping or to refresh yourself after shopping before the journey home. It is situated on the upper level next to the post office and near M & S. There are plenty of tables both inside the restaurant and outside in the mall. The restaurant is self service and meals are brought to the table. On the occasion that I visited , I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. The drinks were hot and served to my specific requirements. Whilst not eating on this vist, I noted a great range of specials on the board at very competitive prices.

Lovely food and outstanding customer service, highly recommend this place to anyone who is visiting the metro center.

I try to eat here when I visit my sister, who lives locally!! The corned beef pie and peach melbas are to die for - neither of which I can get locally where I live in Scotland!! Perhaps just as well as neither are healthy!! The sandwiches and cakes are also delicious with loads of choice!

Ordered the all day english breakfast which consisted of bacon sausage egg and sliced tomato what a dissappointment no mushrooms no beans no hash brown no black pudding no fried bread and no sign to say just what you did get and to top it off it was microwaved and came with cold coffee this place has gone down hill

Stopped here to refuel, mainly for something simple and quick to go with coffee. Had a sandwich which was well filled and fresh. Side salad was also offered with it, but we did not have it. Lovely little place for a quick stop and plenty of fresh foods to choose from - something a bit better than the bigger coffee and eating chains.

Have to get a Peach Melba any time I'm near this place, which thankfully is rarely.You can save a bit of money here by taking out and eating on the many benches nearby.

Cheap greasy spoon, prices reflect this, wouldn't bother visiting, there are much nicer places to grab a coffee in the metro centre. Took ages to get served.

I couldn't believe how much it has changed in here. Always looked forward to calling in for a cuppa and one of their chicken and sweetcorn sarnies. Staff were busy slanging off a customer. Sandwich wasn't too good,and the tea was just awful. I Maybes just went on one of the off days, it's been a while since I was there. It will be a long time before I visit again...

I have visited here many times over the years. I live in Spain and as everywhere to eat in Spain is so much cheaper than the UK and not always better food. The food at Cookery Nook is always fresh as it is always busy and everything is freshly made. I think it is very good value for money. the people who complain should go somewhere more expensive and see what the quality of food is like there. Cookery Nook is in a good position for meeting up with people and giving directions to get there above M&S.

First and last time I'll be visiting. I just had a light meal and left most of it. The chips had been previously cooked and reheated so were soggy and bland and the egg wasn't cooked fully, resulting in runny egg white. Disgusting!! Only plus was the beans were slightly more than warm. The staff were ok, a bit busy, but very impatient. Avoid this place at all costs

Always a favorite for a quick sandwich but recently it has gone down hill. The tables are always messy and not clean, the food is poor and the cutlery is never clean.Worst of all is the attitude of the staff. It always seems a chore for them to have to actually do their job and serve you food!!!

On a recent visit we found the staff unfriendly, unhelpful & discourteous. We had sausages which were probably the worst sausages we'd had in ages. I've been to this cafe many times over many years and have always found the place cheap & cheerful but I won't be returning because of the attitude of the staff.

Good choice of sweet and savoury snacks in a pleasant location within the Metro Centre. Can get a little bit crowded around midday so get there early if you can. Always found staff pleasant and efficient whilst prices are quite reasonable.

I took my partner here for a quick lunch. This has been in the Metro Centre since it opened and has always been nice. I even recognise most of the staff as they have also been working there for sometime. The tea and sandwiches are off good sizes and are nice as well as the little side salad you get. The only thing that disappointed me slightly was that the staff were quick to serve but did not seem very happy. Would definat visit again.

Busy little place frequented by senior diners. Hot food ok, but sandwiches and cakes nicer. Not too expensive. Quite tightly packed cafe.

I heard this cafe had just opened so on a day out to the metro centre we decided to go in and have some food. I asked for what I wanted from the food display and I was sharply told that they don't do that combination and I need to pick something else. At the checkout we were given incorrect order, and when we told the staff they ignored us and just said 'what drinks do you want?'. So then when we repeated that it wasn't our order, the woman behind the till said our order couldn't be correct as they didn't do that combination. Eventually they found the order and it was the combination we were told they didn't do! Not even an apology from anyone and just a sigh. I won't be coming back here and they should employ nicer staff because I've never felt so appaulted at customer service!

Can't understand previous critic's comments on "rude" staff. We come here often when we visit the Metrocentre, and have never ever found the staff to be rude. It is always busy so that they don't have time to chat, because there is always a queue, due to the standard of the food and the value for money. It is not a restaurant, but serves sandwiches, light meals and cakes. The queues for tables bear witness to the high quality of the food.

All members of staff tend to use a conveyor belt system of serving and generally have no manners, no idea of good customer service and when asking for your order their faces betray the fact they would rather not be there. Having said that if you can put up with their rudeness the place does serve up decent sandwiches and sweet things. If shopping after work don't go looking for service at this cafe after five because they are cleaning up just when you might fancy a cuppa before shopping and you are not made to feel welcome. Me - I won't be back again.
