Went to Kewstoke for the Scarecrow walk as we only live in WSM. And had seen that this Hotel & Bar had been taken over. Wow absolutely fantastic facelift. So much cleaner and welcoming. Only wanted a quick drink & sandwich, as it was lunchtime but unfortunately it’s just meals. This didn’t put my husband off though. :-))) he had the fish cake sandwich, it came piping hot with fries and a small bowl of salad. I had the salad with a portion of fries. I was impressed with the standards, especially for Covid hand sanitizer was to be seen everywhere. We will definitely return.

Eat out to help out supposedly did not exist. Ask for the manager, he wouldn’t come out. Finally after hearing him out the back talking down to his waitress telling her to check on the waiter, to see if he was giving the 50% we got his attention to come out and in an unfriendly manor stating the scheme was only for bookable visits with a voucher. I then stated and showed him the government website stating that you have opted in and you are to offer 50% all day as per government rules. He was very loud stating I don’t know what I was talking about and that they are going to opt out. We had spoken to 3 separate groups who were going to get charged full price and ordered more than usual because of this scheme. 1 group paid full price the other 2 had got 50%. Not fair for those who are afraid to speak out. Rooms are loud. You can hear everything loud and clear. Hard to sleep at night.

Our two night stay was wonderful. From the moment we arrived we could see the hotel is clearly following covid guidelines with sanitiser at the door and a one way system. Our room had a fabulous view of the beach, which is accessible via a path literally over the road. We were given a free upgrade to a cooked breakfast to comply with covid restrictions about buffet style food. We are in the restaurant, which seems very popular, both nights. Again it is clear they have made changes to comply with social distancing. The food was excellent, good quality and good sized portions. I would highly recommend this hotel, indeed I already have.

Let me first of all say that the food here is outstanding, the staff are friendly and courteous and I have been using the place for years. We had my sisters wedding here, my dads wake, a friends wake, we dine here for my works Christmas do, and I used to eat here regularly with my girlfriend and friends. It's fair to say that we have spent a small fortune here over the years. Back in January I parked up for a carvery and on our way out we bumped something when reversing. It was a fence post that was sticking out of the ground, which we were told by the duty or shift manager had been left exposed because a gardener had removed the large wooden bollard attached to it as kids were apparently trying to move them. This left the fence post exposed and very difficult to spot. I tried to phone the hotel after as the damage it caused to my car was around £2000. The owner had clearly instructed his staff to be very defensive when I phoned to ask if they had removed the offending object to prevent a further bump by anyone else or a customer tripping on it. A lady on reception actually hung up on me when I explained what had happened to my vehicle. I will not be dining here again or recommending this hotel to anyone . It's a huge shame as having worked in Hospitality myself I would have expected more from a family friendly hotel.

Stayed here for one night with our dog. Lovely en-suite room with comfy beds and great WiFi. Everything was spotless and were made to feel extremely welcome even though we arrived at 7.30 when evening meal service was in full swing and we must have been an inconvenience. We ate in the restaurant/carvery, were allowed to take the dog in as long as we sat in the bar area, which was fine, food was excellent, service was quick and pleasant. Continental breakfast next morning was excellent with the same helpful, friendly service even though the staff seem to work incredibly long hours. Can’t comment on the proximity to the beach, it was dark when we arrived and pouring with rain the next morning. We would definitely stay here again and thoroughly recommend it. This little place had a much better feel than the Hilton we stayed in last week and was superb value for money.

My wife, a friend and I made our second visit to the Sunday Carvery on 09/02/2020. It was a wet and stormy afternoon, but the welcome was warm and the food was nicely presented. A good selection of well prepared vegetables complemented the choice of beef or turkey. This carvery us sure to become more popular, as the year progresses. Make an early visit to make the most of the quieter part of the year. Dogs are welcome here and all of those present were very well behaved.

First time here with friends for Sunday lunchtime. All went for the carvery. There were only 2 meats out (pork & beef) with a 3rd (turkey) available from the kitchen. Not a huge selection of veg but what was there was fresh and hot. Meat was cooked ok, maybe not the best cuts but no one left anything. Not the best or worst carvery I’ve had. Looks like it has been recently refurb’d. Nice décor with old local pictures. Staff were friendly and helpful especially after we asked to move as table we were at was in a draft and it was bloomin freezing! Would / will eat here again when we visit friends again.

Been here a few times for food and enjoyed the old style and tasty food, however the last visit sadly left a bad taste in my mouth, we waited half an hour to be told that they didn’t cook our order because they were too busy preparing that nights xmas food, then was presented with the wrong order 15 mins later, the carvery sides were old and stale the Yorkshire pudding broke into dust as it was too dry and the roast potatoes were hard and hurt my gums. The wait staff kindly waved the price of our food but then charged us for our drinks. Good luck to the new owners.

It’s a popular place, partly because there’s a great number of holiday parks a short walk away so they get a lot of custom from there, dog walkers and beach users so you may well want to book to make sure. When we went in , shortly after they opened for lunch on a Sunday, every table was reserved for lunch. We only wanted a drink and it was a little disappointing that of the two beers , one was off and we had to return it and the other was very cold. It appears to have ben recently redecorated and its a rather cold , minimalist atmosphere but then a lot of people like the modern look. Service is brisk and friendly and whilst the New Inn is closed it’s the obvious choice.

We arrived soon after 12pm all tables had reserved on them, asked if they had any room and was shown to a table that had reserved on it. Our drink order was taken and we were asked which meat we would like beef, turkey or both. When our drinks were brought to us we were told our meat was carved and we could go up to the carvery counter. The vegetables on offer were green cabbage, red cabbage, parsnip, carrot, roast potato and mashed potato that contained leak and onion. By about 12.30pm the place was nearly full so I would advise to reserve a table. The place was advertised as being dog friendly and indeed they were a few dogs there , but I did not see water bowls. Not the best carvery but good for £9.95. If you just wanted a drink there are tables outside in nice surroundings.

Six of us went in here on the 26/08/18 to celebrate my birthday. We were told where our tables were, after several minutes we were then offered a drink. My friend ordered a lager of which he had to return to change as it tasted funny. The waitress then took our order of what we wanted to eat. We all ordered the roast beef from the carvery. After about twenty to thirty minutes we were told our choices were ready. We all went up to the carvery counter and our plates were all on the side with the meat already on the plate, which I found very strange for a carvery. We then added our choice of vegetables. The roast potatoes were not roasted properly, the swede was stone cold and the other choices were Luke warm. So by the time we sat down to eat our lunch it was cold as even the plates were cold. When we complained we were offered a hot drink free of charge. We paid the bill in full but would not return.

Place looked like a roadside motel and so not visually stunning, thought it would more chicken in basket than bistro. But inside it was homely and like being in on old yacht. The service was first rate from all the staff and the food was excellent. You could have a daily carvery for around £8.00 they also do two meals for £12.00 but I went for a hamburger in stilton sauce, the hamburger was either homemade or of butcher's quality and was presented with nicely cooked chips and a fresh salad. Although I did not have the carvery I went an looked at it and it looked fantastic value for money. The hotel faces the beach at sandbay (although due to the dunes you cannot see it from the restaurant). But it was just across the road, so you could some time on the beach beforehand or like me walk off the lunch afterwards. Bit pricy for a pint of lager at £3.80 but there was nowhere else around. Food smelt good and people started to come in about 6.30 first people turned upwho were staying in the hotel, in they walked with a dog were given there table. In the carvery area it was starting to fill up there was a sign saying no dogs beyond this point. We had another drink and then another couple walked in with a very large long haired dog that spotted the other dog and started barking it was really loud as it was a big dog. They were allocated there table and the dog was lying on the floor next to them. It was then I noticed specials on a blackboard with desserts and ice creams etc. Very pricey over £6 for cheese & crackers. £4 for ice cream and £4.25 for rhubarb and custard. There was 2 guys who run the place, verybusy music in the back ground was good food looked good as well. But me if I was paying those prices for food and drinks I certainly would not want to sit in the same area as dogs. So vety nice but wont go back especially if I wanted to eat. The drive from Weston-super-Mare, along narrow, unlit roads should, at night, be undertaken with care. We had not booked but we were greeted in a friendly manner, quickly shown to a table and provided with menus which, in addition to the carvery, offered a very reasonable choice of ‘pub food’. Over drinks we made our decisions and chose our meals - we opted not to eat from the carvery - which arrived shortly afterwards. We were immediately struck by the superb quality of chips and my wife found her fish very enjoyable. My garlic sauce dish was a little on the bland side and it was evident that the chicken had not had much opportunity to absorb its flavours, although it was tender enough. The half of cider, a local brew I suspect, was delicious and I would have enjoyed another but mindful of the journey back I restrained myself. Several of our fellow diners were apparently residents and we became engaged in a friendly banter with some of them. The atmosphere was convivial although in general the decor was a little tired and dated. This we thought was a pity because the establishment is not perhaps realising its full potential.

Known for its carvery but also offers a good selection of other dishes. Warm and welcoming. Right on the sandy coast. Views are beautiful and plenty of outdoor seating.

Very dissapointed with the carvery this year. Meat was very thin carved and not much of it. Evening meals were also expensive for what they were. We will have to find an alternative place to eat next year.

This carvery greets you with all that's good about dining out. Food that is well prepared, well presented and very pleasing. Quality meats, local produce vegetables, proper gravy from meat juices. The dessert selection does have the usual ones but ask for the chef specials they are different and special. The one we chose was a " berry taster patter," this turned out to be better than any "Cafe Gourmand that I have tasted in France. It is a pleasure to review an establishment like this and pass on the experience to those who have a treat in store

Visited on Monday and enjoyed a value for money carvery. We arrived at 6.30ish and were greeted by very pleasant staff, who asked if we had booked, which we hadn't, but it was no problem and we were immediately taken to a table, drinks order taken, and once our meat had been carved, we were called up to the food station to select our vegetables. All lovely and fresh. Will certainly visit again in the future.

With a family member having moved to Sand Bay, Kewstoke very recently my wife and I went to see her new home. Sand Bay is a place we had never visited before and in May not crowded as it is likely to be in the holiday months. For lunch we went to this pub and carvery and were very pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is very homely and with the various divisions and levels does not seem too large. Really nice layout. The service is quiet and friendly, and the food excellent. I am sure we will be visiting this place again.

Had a walk along the seafront and ended up here for lunch, great carvery with two portion sizes on offer, plus a great ham egg and chips, really tasty meats and not overlooked , vegs spot on, obviously popular as most tables were full. The only thing to be aware of is if you don't do dogs then this probably isn't the place for you

We usually come here for an evening meal, but this time we visited at lunchtime. It was quite busy, but not noisy. We had a table with plenty of room to eat comfortably. (4 of us)2 of us had the carvery, which was superb. The roast beef was carved thickly and was beautifully tender. Good choice of veggies too.2 had ham egg and chips. Lovely thick, "real" ham and plenty of it. The chips were lovely. The staff paid us just the right amount of attention, not over the top, which I personally don't like. Top marks to them.We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal, in comfortable, clean surroundings and will return, no doubt about that!

I regularly visit the commodore for a carvery and believe it to be the best in Weston-super-mare.Every visit (majority of them on a Sunday) the roast has been perfect. Very occasionally there won't be as much choice of veg.Very good price too at £7 something per carvery. There can be dogs inside and I am not too keen on them but just ask for a table further in.

My partner and I stayed here on new years eve. This was a nice hotel if you want somewhere quite. It's clean and the rooms are quite large. I was worried about staying here as I hate the doggy smell and past reviews mentioned them but I did not smell dog at all.the foyer did have the smell of and old people's home but not in the rooms. It was cold in the room when we first got there but when we turned the radiator up it soon warmed up. It's opposite a beach which is a nice touch but quite a walk to the shops.we are thinking about having our wedding here as the weddings look very nice. The staff are friendly and the breakfast was basis

We popped in for lunch, sadly the kitchen was being refurbished BUT, when we said oh dear, and could he recommend somewhere and also be able to park the car, he said, no problem, just leave the car here and made various alternative suggestions. We went round town, had some lunch and of course went back for a lovely gin at about 3:00. Great old fashioned service.

Returning to Clevedon after a very long time it was a bit odd to find ourselves back on Hill Road (but that is the weird emotional bit out of the way). We were a bit peckish so popped into the cafe. Had not planned to end up going for the full breakfast - but we did (one vegetarian and one meat). Gosh. They were massive. I was on the meat one, but I simply could not finish it! A first. The Good Lady had to have a piece of my toast + and egg + tomato. (A piece of bacon was scurried out in a serviette). So value-for-money, to me, it was right up there. Admittedly, and looking at other reviews, I might agree that the staff seemed quite new/a little lost at times. Not sure if there is perhaps lots of turnover but they did seem to be struggling at times. Courteous though. We felt very reasonably priced.
