Commercial Hotel in East Riding of Yorkshire

We called in for a drink.Never again the locals continually threw abuse at each other even the barmaid joined in.We drank up quickly and left the atmosphere is toxic.

Stopped here for a beer as they were dog friendly. I was extremely disappointed. Not only was the decor very tired but the draught beer tasted awful…either it was off or the pipes hadn’t been cleaned for a very long time. It was also cash only which is extremely inconvenient especially when we very rarely carry cash anymore. Will definitely not visit again.

Called in for a pint while on holiday nearby. Wont be bothering again. Served by a very grumpy old woman who grunted at us we needed to sign a track n trace book and use sanitiser. Then asked us what we wanted. No friendly hello. Locals weren't asked to sign in or sanitise, one swore in a friendly way when she mentioned it to him,or even abide by the no standing at the bar sign,as ineveas when we walked in. Pub is old and tired very dirty and scruffy and smells off. It became apparent that we were obviously in the way of the local and the woman behind the bar who were watching the tv. She was too busy eating her sandwhich behind the bar,even though she shouldnt have been while serving, to be friendly. We each drank a pint of flat tepid worthingtons in not too clean glasses and left the grumpy woman,ripped seats and poor hygiene behind. Hopefully never to return. Who knows what the food and toilets are like? I certainly dont want too and wont be going back! Worst pub ive been in? Certainly !! Bloody awful!! The woman behind the bar must be the landlady or his wife otherwise why on earth would you have someone like this in your hospitality buisness!! It was really that bad!! I would love to hear owners feedback!!

Called in for Sunday lunch was very lovely all fresh cooked. Good portions size too. For me the small was too big child portion would of been best for me. Friendly and polite staff. Reasonably priced on drinks. Clean toilets.

The beer is well priced and staff are friendly but overworked , the food is great value and we visited twice in one mid week break to eat here. A little dated

Can't recommend this pub enough for food. Food is great and it's really good value for money. Les does an amazing job on anything you ask him to cook .

Called in here whilst on a little tour of Withernsea. Was just myself and my partner. At first we thought oh no, little old mans pub. (They had at the races on and was full of elderly gents) After ordering our drinks, the barmaid did let us know the pub had another side but we both felt quite comfortable and actually thoroughly enjoyed our time here. We only had 2 drinks there to pass the time but engaged in some lovely conversation with the locals. Felt very welcomed. Would go back!

We called here over the Easter Holiday`s has a group for a bit of Karaoke.The place looked rather run down but was very busy when we called.The small front room was packed has was the Karaoke room at the back.There was only two bar staff on to serve two rooms which mean`t a long wait for the drinks.The bar wasn`t well stocked and did not have most of what we asked for.The price of a identical round of drinks changed at every order but we considered the prices cheap so didn`t complain.The men`s toilets were overflowing with urine and were not hygienic to say the least(the group were going to call for food the following day but this put us off).The Karaoke was fine but we left after a couple of hours because of the issues stated and will not bother calling in again.

Excellent food and plenty of it not just the Sunday lunch but have called with a friend for a chat and had a lite bite again plenty on the plate and very friendly staff quick service can't fault

Run of the mill pub which would benefit from a make over. The beer was fine and the staff were friendly.

Thank you to all the friendly staff at the Commercial who made us feel very welcome. We ordered meals which were excellent value for money,l freshly made to order, homemade, piping hot & delicious.

Not recommended the food was barely warm it seemed to take an age to be served etc and what topped it off was the ignorance of the staff a grotty pub the only nice thing was the conservatory I used the gents toilet only to find sick on the floor this may have just happened so to be fair it may not be the pubs fault but it's not nice a good refurb is needed and some training for the staff this one is off my list

Looks a little rough from the outside but was welcomed warmly by staff and customers. Nice bar area with sky tv. Plenty of choice for drinks. Lovely staff. Food is served in the dining room at back of pub. Food was lovely tasted amazing and large portions with a reasonable price. Loved our, visits

Call in at lunchtime today had a few drinks then ordered our lunch. My wife has the normal size and i had a large. Very reasonably priced and was wonderfully cooked. Well worth a visit to this place.

Popped in for a quick Sunday pint but didn't bargain for a continuous high volume jukebox playing really dated 70's music. Stay well clear if you want to chat or even hear each other without shouting.

Went to this pub the commercial had a couple of beers very nice and the food was nice to very friendly to would go back there again

Visitamos el centro comercial última noche con nuestros dos hijos para la cena. Sabiendo que empezaron a servir a las 5 de la tarde llegamos a las 5:45 pm y ordenados de inmediato. Finalmente llegó nuestra comida a las 7:15 pm! Mis hijos estaban cansados...

Estaba en un lugar comercial para beber por la tarde estaba lleno gente muy amable buena bebida bien recomendado.

Have visited a few times over the past few months, toilets always smell, rowdy patrons that are encouraged to be that way by the barstaff. Decor is stuck in the 60's. Needs refurbishment urgently!

We came in on a Sunday for a family meal during a seaside trip... The waitress didn't bring out any menus and then told us only Sunday lunch was being served.... then brought a burger and chips out to a table in the corner. We drank the drinks we ordered and left to go to the chippy!

This is one of my favs in the town half on the Main Street and half down piggy lane. Nice place for a drink or more used to come here lots when I lived in the town great Brittish pub

Sat down for a family meal, all food served is home made. Good quality and good size portions of food.Would recommend :-)

The front bar has recently been revamped and I must say it looks amazing. Very clean and very smart. Will look even better when the rest if the pub gets done.

Really nice food. Everything very hot which is what like. For 8.50 a mixed grill this size cant go wrong. Would reccomend

My partner and I went to the Commercial Inn on Saturday 7th of May 2016. When we arrived there, there was a lady smoking at the entrance who suggested we go to the lounge; however, we went into the bar and sat amongst the locals. There was a bit of swearing and someone said there's a lady present and they refrained from swearing which I thought was considerate. However, it didn't bother us; it's their pub and we're the interlopers. We found the bar staff and customers very friendly and welcoming. Later on in the evening Withernsea football team who had just had a win came in and were understandably jubilant with their success. We then went into conservatory part near the lounge and ordered two meals. I had a fillet steak and my partner had a mixed grill. My steak was delicious and plentiful and so was my partner's meal and I don't know how they do it for the price. I eat out quite a bit and find that expensive, posh, posy eating places where you get a small posy portion and pay an exorbitant for it are not my choice of venues. I'm working class, I drive buses and would prefer the commercial Inn as opposed to pretentious posy eating places. We visited the nuclear bunker near Withernsea before eating at the Commercial Inn and quite liked the area; it's not commercalised yet and wouldn't mind living there. I read the reviews of this pub before we went and found one particular review distasteful and way over the top and insulting to the chef and customers of this pub. However, if we're in the area again we'll definitely eat there again. Malcolm and Christine from Nottingham.

Steak pie and chips meal was so packed with taste and with a quality cup of tea, perfect. Kids had chicken nuggets which looked home made and they loved them.

Came in for food whilst staying at a caravan park in withernsea , looks a little dated in conservatory where we sat but food was great and got plenty for the money

Called in here for a Sunday lunch excellent choice of 3 meats. Large portions even for a small dinner. Dog friendly in the annexe. Quick service friendly staff. Will be back again.

We were visiting Withernsea and were told by a relative to call here.We were not disappointed the mixed grill at £8.50 is absolutely massive and delicious.If you go enter by the side entrance through the conservatory the main entrance leads to a small scruffy looking tap room.Don`t let that put you off the main lounge is in reasonable condition and the staff are friendly.

We love going in here for lunch. It's like home cooked meals. You wished you could cook. Les s chips are the best in the world. Well I think so. Yum yum

Only went for a drink, was a good old fashioned foul mouthed down to earth pub, full of working class people who like a laugh and good drink. Not many of these type of pubs left and the pint was spot on.Great

Homemade at its best. Really good hearty food with plenty of it. Bad point like alot of places in with is could be cleaner and smarter looking chef

At first glance this pub looks scruffy, it needs a facelift, a lick of paint and a good scrub clean.HOWEVER:The Cask Ales that Les keeps are excellent. Great choices and well kept. Some lovely beer. The local CAMRA representative was in there at the time chatting to us and drinking, which speaks volumes.The food on offer was not only delicious but very generous portions. We had a Cheese Bacon Burger which was a homemade patty (not a pre bought, frozen burger), and a Steak & Ale Pie which was also homemade. All served with hand cut chips.If you're not fussy about where you sit to eat and drink you'll enjoy The Commercial. Just don't expect fantastic decor and ambiance.

Attended the commercial on saturday evening, and what a eye opener it was. The bar where the karoake was on was packed full of people, who i can only describe as tramps, and i feel i'm being unkind to tramps, as i have seen cleaner and better smelling ones sleeping rough in shop doorways. After getting to the bar, i was served by what i thought was one of the tramps that was out in there that night, but it turned out to be the landlord, a very scruffy, smelly guy called les, who sweat all night when serving people. I was informed by one of the tramps, that the landlord did some excellent meals, and did all the cooking himself, god only knows what bodily fluids end up in the food he cooks! After getting a badly pulled pint and half of lager, and charged £5, , i decided to go use the toilet, which was a bad mistake, as the troff was blocked and was over flowing with urine onto the toilet floor, and decided enough was enough and left, what i can only describe as the worst pub i have ever set foot in, avoid this place at all cost

I have always ignored this pub as somewhere to eat preferring to drive out of town at alternative restaurants. However, was persuaded by my wife to try it and boy I wasn't dissapointed.

We have just called for a family Sunday lunch, I would never ever insult anyone by serving them vegetables that were bad the carrots had gone past the rubbery stage an were black and mushy, my mother found string in her beef and when we told the waitress she just took it away and didn't even acknowledge us. It was a shame really because my mother had been before and said it was very nice so they took me as a treat we were all very disappointed, sorry for the bad review but if we had been acknowledged while we were there we could have talked face to face instead of writing on here

Lumpy mash boiled to death veg gravy that had the consistency of natts p--s then to top it all stringy beef never ever again voted with our feet the only good thing was the conservatory it was quiet cosy

This is a genuine local pub, not plush by any means but it has a nice homely feel about it, we found everyone very friendly and happy to chat. The real ale is superb and they have regular guest beers.The food is amazing, it's all home cooked chips, pies, yorkshire puds and so on, the portions are simply gigantic, you certainly need to be hungry if you eat at the Commercial!!!And what's more the prices are not going to break the bank, either for the beer or the food. If you are anywhere near the place give it a go. The eating part of the pub is via the conservatory entrance.

We have had everything from chicken burgers to Sunday carvery and the steak and ale pie is too die for. All home made to order on site. Huge portions and children more than welcome. Decent beer especially the cask ales. Staff are very friendly and try to cater for all tastes. 9 tines out of 10 Les will cook for you. We've been there for meals and night time entertainment . Family from the Midlands also chose to eat here and the portions were so big they couldn't physically eat it all. Well recommended pub all round.

Visited the Commercial Hotel after reading reviews on TA. Traditional pub with traditional food. Portions are huge and food is all freshly cooked with not a frozen meal in sight. Chips are home made too :)Prices are fantastic and would highly recommend.

went with a group for drinks.We all had a great time and the staff so helpful.Real ale is served here so if like me you enjoy a good beer its well worth popping in for one.

Staff and clients are really friendly, meals are home made especially the chips just like your Mum used to make, not frozen or oven chips. Plates are always over flowing, you never leave hungry, if you don't see what you'd like on the menu Les will do his best to accommodate your requirements. Keep up the great work Gals and Guys xxx

If it's a mixed grill you fancy, then you cant do better than having one at The Commercial. Served on 2 plates, one of them sizzling . I have yet to manage to clear both plates. Now just writing about it has made me hungry. Les are you still doing meals today?

Came in the commercial for Sunday lunch, and I must say how lovely it was. Have never had a bad meal in the pub every meal I have had in the commercial has been excellent. Many thanks to the friendly staff

I went to the pub one evening just to see what it was like on a sat evening and can honestly say it was a very friendly inviting atmosphere the pub has a cask marque award for the real ales I didn't have a real ale I tried the lager and have to say it was probably one of the nicest in the area. I stayed for food and had scampi and chips and it was cooked to perfection if u ever need a place to go for entertainment defo go to the commercial the bar staff are also lovely and will chat with u for hours and make u feel welcome

We visited the Commercial Hotel over the Easter weekend on both Saturday and Sunday lunchtimes with our two grandchildren. Staff were welcoming (particularly the lovely lady on Saturday). Lovely home made burgers and kids meals on Saturday and very reasonably priced. We then returned for Sunday lunch and weren't disappointed! The portions were huge, and again all home cooked, including the Yorkshire pud! There aren't too many places, pub-wise to visit in Withernsea for something to eat (particularly with kids), but this was a real find and if we were in Withernsea again we'd return.

We went to the commercial hotel on Saturday night February 22nd 2014 with friends . We all ordered steaks . Must say the food was gorgeous and plenty of it too . We will definitely be going back for more . We also enjoyed the karaoke too . Had a fab night xxx

Every Sunday we treat ourselves to a lovely roast dinner at the commercial and have done since Les took the pub on. The plates are always piled high with the best fresh seasonal veg, freshly cooked meat and amazingly big and tasty Yorkshire puddings. The portions are huge compared to the price you pay excellent value for money.

went in here on sunday and the food was horrid my husband ordered a roast beef sunday dinner can you go wrong with a sunday dinner ? yes in the commercial you can it arrived all dumped onto the plate, boiled potatoes, white turnip white cabbage and COURGETTES off all things . dont laugh my dinner was worse i ordered the steak pie :( 6inch thick Soggy pastry a tablespoon of beef frozen garden peas and lumpy mash swimming in gravy over microwaved mush NEVER AGAIN , all i can say is if people think this is great food then they CANT COOK either YUK YUK YUK .

Me and my hubby Steve visit this pub quite frquently, the owner Les is a fantastic cook, ( if i wasn't already married, I would beg this man to marry me ), his chips are the best home made chips EVER, we usually share a mixed grill, he does us each a plate of chips, salad and peas then the mixed grill to share, all this for a tenner!!His fish and chips are also gorgeous, the fish is cooked to perfection and he always throws in bread and butter for me!The portions are huge and well worth the money. This pub in Withernsea is deffo the best for value.

If your on holiday at Sand-le-mere, Skipsea or Withensea sites run by Hoseasons then you should eat all your meals here and NOT IN THE SITE 'RESTAURANTS'.We found the Commercial Hotel after being disgusted with the food at Sand-le-mere.We ended up having most of our meals here, the Sunday lunch was so big we couldn't finish it.On other days the cook (owner) made up special meals for my wife as she has an eating disorder and nothing was too much trouble.There were 5 of us and, including drinks & sweets, we didn't pay any more than £36 for our meals.

All home made, high quality, very reasonable price. I had fish and chips and it was the best ive had in a long time, the home made chips were dark and tasty, the fish was huge, fresh and delicious. My partner had the steak pie which was equally as nice and my daughter had a very nice home made lasagne. We will be returning.

now the commercial hotel is a old type local pub great for a mixed grill and a saturday night karaoke good times in there lol
