Colston Bakeries & Cafe Deco in Worcester

I am very disappointed in Colston Bakery, i have come here many times and loved it but recently i was on a long walk and really needed the toilet so because i didnt want to be rude i bought a drink first, and asked if i could use the toilet, which they refused and said sorry you can only use the toilet if you are dining in, but i had already paid for a drink so i was a paying customer, so i said i can sit in and have my drink if theyd like, and they said that i wasnt allowed to use the toilet because it is different prices which i was never told about prior, i am just disappointed in their customer service towards paying customers and wont be rushing back anytime soon

Great bacon baps but this week the bacon has been really salty

I went in to have a latte and a cornish pastry, the latte was good, but unfortunatly the cornish pasrty was not eatable, no taste to it at all, i am very doubtfull that the mince had any spices, onlons and garlic, maybe not even salt and pepper, i tasted the pastry more then the mince. It was the most blunt pastry i have ever had, but to be honest i did not eat it, i left three quarters of it on the plate. I did not complaine because i did not want to make a scene. The short crust pastry was not worked properly, bottom line it was terrible. I know about pastry the reason is i am a teacher in a culinary collage, and i teach students at the collage. I went to Colston Bakery and had a cup of tea nearly at the end of their shift. The staff were really accommodating considering the time I entered and the staff were always professional and helpful. Whilst I was there though a gent came in who intentionally insulted the staff and was purposefully awful to cause a scene. The gent was waiting for an order and the lady serving explained to the gent that she was waiting for the till to be free and he then continued to walk off saying that staff was unprofessional and didn't want to serve him however, all of the ladies were always polite and trying to complete his order however he stormed off and tried to pursue and argument within the high street. However I advise going to colstons as the food quality is amazing and the products are worth the price! The staff are always willing to help and overall give you a friendly experience! 100% recommend

visited 20 mins before closing time and they were not pleased to see us. i did try to place an order but we were clearly not wanted. incredibly combative when we complained and even pursued the argument into the street when we tried to leave.

Great little bakery. Reasonably priced and fresh produce. Plenty of seating available across three floors.

Been a few times now for cafe use,met with friendly and welcoming staff..have had great food each visit for lunch, jacket potatoes are great like proper old fashioned baked...dogs are also always welcomed at the outdoor seating area. Only missing a star for lack of skinny milk!

Got a hot pork roll size was fine but taste was bland and the crackling was not generous when asked for more they said no. Poor show to be honest won’t be buying again.

Called here for quick lunch and purchase of cream cakes. I had a coronation chicken salad roll and my wife had Turkey Salad roll and 2 cappuccinos .Food was really tasty-generous portions of coronation chicken and turkey-good quality rolls can be found here!, Cappuccinos really good too!

Had a coronation chicken sandwich, which was nice and fresh, and a coffee. Reasonably priced. Good location. It is let down, though, by poor service. As many other reviews state, the staff seem more interested in carrying on with their own conversations rather than concentrating on the customers. I was also amused that one of the staff proceeded to carry my order around the cafe complaining that she didn't know who it was for, or who took the order..... there were only 2 customers in the place at the time, and 1 was already eating.... hmmmm , who could it have been for. Bad service is always remembered.

Quick, efficient and such good service too

Nice food but it would be even nicer if the lady serving had stopped chatting to another customer (clearly her mate) while ignoring me for the entire transaction. Even seemed to think I'd magically know how much to pay, just held out her hand while jabbering away. Very poor customer service.

Always go here for brunch with the family and food is always spot on and the cakes are lovely. Staff always give a great service

On every occasion I have visited this bakery I'm sorry to say I've come across miserable members of staff. Not even a smile, please or thank you. Don't deserve the custom.

I stopped for a quick bite. The food was ok, nothing particularly bad although nothing special. The deco needs some maintenance, the tables were not in good conditions. Maybe my expectations were too high but i was bit disappointed. Polite employees.

Absolutely disgusting staff, fell over in front of the shop and not one member of staff asked if I was okay. Then when I mentioned to them, no one asked or apologised and the members of staff that were there were rude. Health and safety should be notified of this

One rude staff spoilt it for the other lady working who was trying to serve quickly. Was told your queuing in the wrong place after I’d stood there for 10minutes waiting to be served. Customer service by the young girl rubbish. Won’t waste my time going back to the Worcester branch. St Johns staff friendlier, helpful and polite.

Nice breakfast plus some nice cakes too..

We were wandering through this lovely town one afternoon recently and we needed a snack to tide us over before evening dinner. We hit on this place as they had some outside tables in the glorious March sun. I went inside to order some of the few remaining pies and a drink. I went for a mince and onion pie and a bottle of chilled water. Others had cheese and onion pies if my memory serves me correctly. These were warmed up nicely and brought out to us by one of the friendly ladies serving behind the counter. All very nice..

I usually go upstairs but for some reason it was closed so sat downstairs I only had a cup of tea and a sausage roll, I would much rather be upstairs there are so many people coming into the shop and past the tables so hopefully it will be open next time I visit.

This bakery/cafe is really popular with local Worcester folk. Always good value and very friendly staff. If you have a pot of tea for 2 in the cafe, it's served in a proper teapot with delightful china cups. Great range of cakes, bread, pasties & sandwiches to take away too.

Sausage rolls are lovely and jam doughnuts are scrummy. Lovely ladies working there too.

We've been wanting to go here for such a long time and finely we did. Can't believe it took us so long. From now on this is our coffee and cake stop each time we go to Worcester. Great service, friendly staff and amazing food. High recommended!!!

Very nice staff, lovely cappuccino and so delicious tarts, that just can't imagine! I like the hand made bread, as well! Covid-19 measures - very good. Highly recommended!

High quality in the flavor, style and right prices.

Their bread isn't bad but their cakes and pastries are laughable I'm afraid. It reminds me of food one used to get from 3663 at the school cafeteria.. cheap margarine and powdered eggs... Could be so much better in my opinion but perhaps people like it?

Great place very good breakfast far price

I can see this place has good reviews, but unfortunately I cannot agree. Some of the staff were lovely, but a couple of the younger ladies were not. One in particular was incredibly rude! A member of our party ordered a black tea, which was served white. My friend explained she ordered black tea, then the waitress asked "So don't you want this then?". She changed the drink & said "Next time tell us when you order yeah", while chucking a dirty look. The latte I had was awful & the majority of the cakes left looked very unappetising & rather overcooked. Hopefully we just chose the wrong day to visit, but unfortunately we won't be going back.

Good central location and it is just opposite the boston tea party. It was a pity that we did not have time to indulge in the various cake selection in the store. Guess we will have to do that when we visit worcester again.

nice place to grab a coffee and some food last visit was same as any served by i think the young manageress with a smile and prompt service .. the older lady however who was serving outside snapped at a pensioner about social distancing and humiliated her not everyone understands the requirements and i’m sorry i didn’t step in and shut her down . would go back there again

We visit Worcester every week and at lunchtime we always make our way to Colstons. The coffee is the best and always lovely and hot. As we have been visiting now for some time, we have tried a number of items from the menu and if you want a combination of something not listed, they will do it for you and are very accommodating and pleasant. The sandwiches and toasties are excellent, rolls are so fresh and can be filled with more or less whatever you want. The donuts are wonderful, very soft and filled with the most delicious jam. The prices are very good value too. The bakery shop is on the ground floor and there are two further levels with seating. The rooms are bright and very clean and if you are lucky enough to get a window seat - ideal for watching the world go by in the market below. Another plus for me is the cleanliness of the toilet - never have I found it lacking in either liquid soap or toilet paper and always wiped down and spotless. Well done to all the staff and I would certainly recommend a visit to the Colston Bakery when you are next in town.

By comparison with another coffee & snack break we had nearby the offering from Colston Bakeries was disappointing

£5.95 for a good breakfast, first time that we have eaten here, Will certainly be going again, big place, loads of tables,it's on three floors, staff very friendly and helpful highly recommended

Had a delicious ham and cheese toastie with crisp's, coleslaw and a small salad garnish. Very nice also a hot chocolate .

The lady upstairs with dark hair and glasses was so lovely.

Spent a couple of days in Worcester this week and visited this place twice - their sausage rolls were lovely so I had to return the next day for some more before catching the train home !

visited Monday 1st July, ordered a ploughmans, i'm not a food photo person but is an exception to every rule and i have got to say the ploughmans deserved a photo which i will be putting on my face book. The Staff service and food was excellent. Pot of tea ploughmans with a white roll and butter £7.20. thank you Cafe Deco

..and was very good. Nice coffee and a tasty danish pastry. Good service and reasonable prices.A few outside seats (handy if dog is with you) so can sit and people watch. Warned about gulls as sitting outside but they were causing no problems on the day.

Ordered two Americano coffees and two toasted teacakes. The coffee had a peculiar taste and the teacakes were soaked in a spread which was definitely not butter. Decided to drink the milk to take the nasty taste away, only to find the milk was on the turn. Will not be visiting this establishment again.

After a fabulous day at the Xmas Market, called in for a hot drink and cake before heading home. Friendly, clean cafe where we both enjoyed a nice cup of tea/coffee and for me, the best mince pie ever - pastry was so light it fell apart and the mince meat was absolutely beautiful.Prices about average.Would highly recommend.

I had lunch with a friend the staff are very friendly I had Cheese and Tomato Toastie which was served with a side salad,coleslaw and crisps it was nicely presented and very good value

Stopped in for lunch. Not local to the area the guys where I was collecting from recommended this place. Had a sandwhich and pizza slice and a soup it was all delicious. Slightly disappointed the soup wasn’t home made but it was still good.

Popped into Colstons recently for a quick bite. Broccoli and Stockton soup and brown roll and butter very tasty. Just enough to fill a gap as we had missed lunch. Staff were very friendly and obliging. Nothing is too much trouble. Worth another visit.

Excellent cakes and good coffee better value for money than the big name chains and you can't get freshly baked bread from them to take home either. And able to sit outside just be careful of the seagulls they will swoop down to get the cake!!

Popped in here for a snack yesterday. The special sausage, beans and cheese toastie was delicious. Served with coleslaw, salad and crisps, there was a variety of tastes and textures and at £3.75 it was a bargain. Served with a smile, it was a pleasure to stumble across this place. Will be back k

Downstairs there are only a couple of tables, but upstairs there is a much larger seating area, which provided sufficient seating for the customers. We ate our lunch serenaded by excellent buskers in the street below. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food hot and tasty. The toilets were on the floor above where we were eating, I do not know if there as a disabled toilet on the ground floor. This was not a problem for us, but anyone with limited mobility may want to check prior to visiting.

Well this was an odd one, I ordered a breakfast, it came and the bacon was uncooked, I don’t mean it wasn’t well done, I mean it looked raw uncooked, 10 seconds in the frying pan uncooked, the sort of thing you occasionally get in a cafe, but no person on Earth would cook it like that to eat themselves, you get the idea, the people on the next table even commented!

A bakery on the ground floor with a cafe on the 1st and 2nd floor and ideally located in the city centre.Had lunch of egg mayonnaise sandwiches on granary bread served with salad and crisps with a large frothy cappuccino. The sandwiches were thick and well filled and the cappuccino very tasty.Mom ordered the soup which was more of a puree when it arrived.No problem..the manageress offered a replacement of anything off the menu at no extra cost...so along came a tuna jacket potato which was just the ticket.Although very busy the staff were pleasant and courteous and the wait for the food was minimal. Lovely views from the window and lots of delicious cakes to choose from with coffee/cake deals for those with a sweet tooth.Would recommend and definitely come back.

The prices here are reasonable, the service was fine and the waiting time was perfectly acceptable given that it was a busy lunch time. My companions were all delighted with their meals (lasagne, jacket potatoes and sandwiches) which looked lovely, had generous portions and were apparently delicious. I only wanted coffee and cake which was a shame in the end. Considering this cafe is at a bakery shop, the selection of cakes on display at the counter where you order was very uninspiring. I settled on coffee cake. Sadly it was not as fresh as it could have been, with a dense, firm texture although it tasted ok. My cappuccino was not very hot and had an odd taste. I'll have to follow my friends' example if I go again! The place was clean, simply furnished and is great for people watching through the windows.

After shopping this morning I stopped here for a coffee sitting outside in the warm sunshine. A very good coffee and very reasonably priced the cakes all looked very good too, maybe next time....

Pasó a ser en la mañana. a mediados de worcester Quería aperitivos y bebidas, pero no quería usar 'cafetería cadena. Vimos este lugar que era diferente. El personal nos dio la bienvenida y nos decidimos por una mesa en el primer piso. Aquí fue donde un contador independiente hicimos nuestra ordenar la selección y elegido con vistas a la mesa sobre un bullicioso croossroad. La decoración era verdaderamente 'art deco' incluso a la ballustrade y en buenas condiciones. Rollos de tocino cuando vinieron por su aspecto y sabor como si hubieran salido directamente de ser cocinado en la cocina. El café era como me gusta la vía láctea, no caliente y no más fuerte. En todos muy agradable y no muy caro.

The place looked quite inviting, especially considering it was warm enough to sit outside. Inside it is nice and the pastries and bread looked inviting. We were served by a friendly lady who said she would bring our coffees out to us.Unfortunately, the table was dirty and the coffee pretty average. We thought she had noted that the table was dirty but she never returned to clean it.Disappointing.

Came here with a friend. Was great value for money and was lovely food and great portion sizes. The waitress however didn't seem very happy when taking my order or serving our food.

this bakery on the corner of Angel Place and Broad St Worcester City is a small family run business from malvern the food is good you can sit in or out side or take away hot/cold sandwiches hot/cold pies hot/cold drinks they also have one at Malvern Rd St Johns part of Worcester if you are in the area of both then pop in and check them out you will not be disappointed as I always call in

Lovely food, very good service and good choice. Cakes are the best you will find in Worcester. Clean and bright. I always like to pop in when I am in Worcester, even if it is just for food to take out.

We visited as a family of 4 several times. Always good value. Great to sit up stairs and watch the world go by. Food is served quickly with no fuss or frills.

Really good pasties! We stopped here for lunch and couldn't get up to the cafe with the pushchair but had their Malvern pasties downstairs which were great. We also bought a large bloomer loaf which was delicious and only £1.66! It is massive for that price. Will definitely be back again.

some staff are friendly some are just grumpy! Cakes look greasy and lacking finesse. Limited choice of bread and rolls for a bakery and pastry items expensive compared to others.

When walking past today i couldnt help but notice how lovely all the food looked on display so i called in for a coffee,this being the first time.I wasnt that hungry so just went for a sausage roll.Well when it arrived at my table i was really impressed by the piping hot delicious milky coffee and as for the roll,well all i can say it was one of the best ive ever ever tasted,and cheaper than the rest by quite a bit.I really rate the place now very highly and i will be back before the weeks out for one of them pasties i saw on offer.

We (my girls, 4 and 7, and I) have visited on a number of occasions, the sandwiches are always tasty and can be made to order if your particular flavour isn't already there. There is a wide range of fillings to choose from. There are a wide range of cakes to choose from, my favourite is the Florentine, delicious. The staff are always friendly and on one occasion, when my daughter was younger, she needed the toilet so one member of staff looked after the pushchair laden with shopping whilst we went upstairs to use the facilities. Plenty of seating, both inside and out.

I come here a lot for a pastry and coffee in mid-mornings and so decided to try it out for lunch yesterday. Enjoyed the food and pot of tea at a reasonable price and quick, friendly service. It was busy at lunchtime although there is plenty of seating on different floors so I got a table OK.

A cold late autumn day a great spot for a steaming hot Malvern pasty .They have a large range of pastys , sausage rolls .Sweet pastries ,enormous scones galore .Warning The cappuccino was dreadful ,but the hot tea and hot food was a warm welcome on a cold day .

I love the pasties and cakes in colston bakery, great malvern. Absolutely yummy. Especially potato curry pastie is my favourite. It is a nice takeaway bakery.

This place needs a lick of paint. The cake display cabinet advertising birthday cakes is dirty. The staff didn't know how long some food had been on the hot counter. The drinks tasted like push button coffee and the staff shout

We were looking for a light lunch during our visit to Worcester and fortunately came across cafe Deco. We had a ploughmans and quiche salad both of which were excellent. The ploughmans included 3 types of cheese and some tasty ham, pickles, coleslaw, salad and crusty bread. The quiche was delicious and the salad fresh and included coleslaw and potato salad. Portions were generous and prices very reasonable. Service was speedy. We will definitely return on our next visit to Worcester.

Wonderful selection of cakes and food in a friendly atmosphere. Would definitely recommend a visit. Nothing is too much trouble for the lovely staff there, keep up the good work as you make a visit there a pleasure.

Although I didn't go upstairs to the Café Deco, I had lunch downstairs. Cordon bleu it isn't, but it is so much better than so many other cafés. I had a baked potato with coronation chicken. The potato was well cooked and clearly fresh as opposed to the many that have clearly been sitting in the low heat of an oven for hours. It came with lovely fresh salad - again, no tired leaves - coleslaw and a ramekin of tasty coronation chicken.I also had a cream scone which was not so good, being somewhat dry. However, this café represents great value and is unpretentious.

Dropped in here for lunch. Place is bright and clean and was quite busy. Chose the Special - but it was off! Settled for a veggie burger in a bun. When it came it was two such burgers in a massive bap or barm. Was well cooked and tasty though. Service was friendly and quite fast. Would call again.

We only had coffee here but the service was so friendly and the shop had a wonderful selection of cakes, pasties, pastries, we will definitely come here again. It had a very traditional atmosphere.

Popped in for tea and cake after a busy day walking the City. Lovely first floor, tea was served fresh in pots but café selection limited by mid afternoon. Bakewell tart was delicious.

I personally believe you cannot fault this place. It's a very popular place and the upstairs cafe is relaxing and quite. Definitely value for money here. Friendly enough service and I regularly come here.

First and foremost, this place needs an injection of staff. Although you have to place your order at the counter (there is one on 2 of the 3 floors) the food takes an age to arrive which is just as well as it seems that there are just too few people to prep orders, clean tables and deliver food. On the subject of cleaning tables this takes for ever - twice we had to clear plates, cups etc ourselves before someone came along to clean the table with disinfectant.The quiche included in our order was pronounced very good. My toasted sandwich, I felt, left a lot to be desired. Bread that was far too thick filled with an admittedly generous chicken and bacon filling, supported by a cast of salad, crisps and coleslaw. Mayonnaise everywhere! Not the greatest taste-wise - I ate one of the quarters plus a half of the next before leaving the rest (apart from some of the salad) untouched.We have visited Colston in the past and found the coffee and cakes great. But for light lunches - frankly some of the Chains are better albeit slightly more expensive

My mother went into the shop today 5 members of staff were in their and not one could be bothered to serve her,she was totally ignored, 1 member of staff was leaning over the counter talking to someone, 2 others stood in the corner chatting,1 ignored her and served someone else,only 1 was actually giving a dam.This is not a one off happens all the time,too busy gossiping.My mom walked out.It happened to me a week ago, I stood their waiting to be served when another customer walked in, totally ignored me and continued to serve the other customer, I said 'am I invisible'? The woman behind the counter said 'what' she could see I wasn't happy so got another member of staff to serve me.We often make phone orders as working when collected a ham and tomato roll took it back to work it only had tomato in it, took it back they said you asked for just tomato, no I didn't, they didn't even apologise.On another occasion my mom asked for a cheese roll took it back to work to find tomato in it,she is allergic to tomato, took it back to the shop they said can't you just take the tomato out.The manners of the staff in the Worcester store are appalling all should be sacked or sent on a communications course.And also whenever we purchase something usually sausage bap or cheese bap each day is a different price the staff haven't a clue.Will never be using the Worcester store again.
