Called in on way back from beach. Ordered small fish and chips. £9.70!! I was the only one in the shop 3.15 and one person serving. Got back to my van and the fish was like a mini sardine so small and the chips were dry shrivelled and most probably started their life the night before. I also noticed from the leaflet I picked up that I should have been charged about £6 as there was an offer on. I phoned to complain 6 times but no one answered so took it back and got my money back. Second time this has happened load of old trash. Never again.

We called into this restaurant as part of a coach trip. There was also another group in at the same time as us, so it was very busy. However, everyone was served quickly, so we weren’t left waiting. Pleasant staff. However, I thought the chips tasted a bit odd, maybe the oil needed a change. Fairly basic decor, but clean and tidy. As long as the chips were better next time, I’d eat here again

Poor old Brandon doesn’t have a great deal going for it, but it can at least boast a handful of take-away outlets lining its major thoroughfare. Passing by in my ST-2, and hungry, I tried Collins Fish & Chips. It was decently cooked, pretty prompt and pleasantly delivered. Plenty of street parking outside before you drive off to somewhere more interesting.

There were 47 on the bus returning from Thursford's Spectacular show and we had pre-arranged the meal. The fish and chips were quickly served. If one wanted to picky the chips could have been better, they were a little dry and could have been larger in size. The restaurant is bright and clean. The staff are pleasant. The wines on sale are well priced.

We've been going to this restaurant for over 30 years and always thought of it as "the" place to go to for fish and chips. However, last weekend on hubby's birthday we went for the first time for ages and were so disappointed. Staff are friendly and place is clean but tired (same pictures on wall for all the years we've visited). But the food was not particularly good. The batter was almost burnt and not appetising at all. Not the crispy batter we're used to. Can't say we really enjoyed it. Has the business changed hands?

We had lunch here with family while on holiday from Australia and couldn't fault the food. The fish was well cooked and the batter was light and crispy and th chips were 'real chips' - not frozen! Our husbands opted for 'spotted dick' pud and custard and they were in seventh heaven! The only suggestion is that the waitress on the day could maybe manage a little smile and a bit more interaction with the customers.

It's a local institution I am told. The interior is 1980's retro without the chic - think more Maestro less Audi Quattro. The food is standard chippy fare. When we arrived Saturday afternoon just before 14:00 the place was empty. The fish was alright. The chips felt like a re-heat. Probably best to go when there are more patrons for yummier food. The staff was friendly and attentive. Not bad, not good but somewhere in between .. a Montego maybe.

We were too early for our appointment so we decided for a leisurely lunch. We found Collins Fish Restaurant. Service was very warm and efficient. Kudos to them. I ordered the Cod Fish & Chips and boy was it great! It was one of the best tasting Fish and Chips. Freshly made, moist and tasty. Serving was quite generous. Definitely, recommended. In addition, these nice ladies keep the place sparklingly clean.

I love that his place never changes. No fancies or frills, just sit down fish n chips like it used to be. Decor hasn't ch aged since I went there with my nana and grandad as a child! Even still has the same placemats, chairs, decor. BUT, really good fish n chip meal for a fraction of the price you'd pay at a restaurant

I left a review on here last October but thought I would give it another try. Well!! The short lady that served me had a glowering miserable face which looked like a bullet wound. But I came for the food so what was it like? Did I get a pleasant surprise? Sadly I did not. The chips were as last time small edible leftovers from the lunch time which were vile. The fish was unpleasant and didn't taste like cod at all. To summaries the food is appalling and the staff are a surly unhappy bunch that no one in their right mind would employ. Who owns this dump?

Having lived in the area my entire life, I remember growing up as a kid, good memories about this place, used to go regular on a sunday with parents and the atmopshere, service and food was most enjoyable. Freshly cooked, nice fish, lots of chips bread and butter done nicely, and a choice of somewhat decent desserts at the back of the restaurant. Clean, friendly staff. However this is going back, way way back, to what would be around the early-mid 90s, at some point in the late 90s early 00s, the place changed hands, and has been downhill ever since.Currently, the food in the restaurant is a complete contrast to what it was, and the staff... sour, and unfriendly. Its like its too much trouble for them, absolutely no pride in working there at all. Again, stark contrast to what it once was. I remember sometimes, not being able to get a table in the place, quite a few times, with people queing outside the door waiting for it to open( much like the long gone, but fondly remembered by many, Bobs Chip Shop in the same town), but now you may see the odd oap waiting outside to take advantage of a special offer on certain lunctimes. thats it.Had a great rep once, patrons were often nice older pensioners, everybody polite and with manners, sadly long gone now. The take away food the other side in the chippy was also of a good standard,(but you always got better fish and chips in the restaurant for some reason, maybe because it was all freshly cooked to order, anyway people who ate there will know what I mean) although we always favoured Bobs to theres because the chips had more taste, were collins were more cleaner and drier(not a good thing in this case). However for a sit down meal in Brandon, it was the place back then. Cannot recommend it now however sadly. Changes needed, and big ones, if its to get back its glory days. Such fond memories of the place though.

This isn't the first time they have sold me leftovers. I have been a loyal customer over the years but have now defected to the other chip shop. The owners need to employ staff that smile at customers and sell them edible food

Many years ago I lived in Brandon and used to use Collins for fish and chips take away and occasionally the restaurant, it used to be superb. Returning last Friday we decided to pop in for an evening meal. Were we disappointed well no but it was not as before. Prices are good and fair, it also has a alcohol licence, although as I was driving I could not take advantage of it. We entered the restaurant area, and were shown a table. The menu was a poor copy of the one 15 year ago but the food generally match that of those days, full plate hot food and large piece of fish woth the money and worth a visit

Ate here today and found it to be a disappointment. The restaurant is clean and has a classy look with it's wine display case. The waitress was an older pleasant lady whom was very patient and accommodating. But the food left much to be desired. Being a fish restaurant we should have ordered fish, because any other food is definitely not their forte. I just wanted a light meal so I went for the soup of the day, which was tomato soup, that I quickly passed on. The waitress went back to the kitchen and informed me that they also had chicken soup. I accepted this order with bread and butter, and what she brought me was cream of chicken from out of a can! And untoasted bread with too much butter already spread on it. I had to use a knife to remove most the butter off. My husband ordered the chicken burger, which was the equivalent to a microwaved chicken patty with chips that were white in color and not normal golden brown from cooking or frying. And my mother ordered apple pie with custard. Her apple pie was swimming in custard where you could only see the top of the pie crust. It was so comical to us, she took a picture of her drowned pie.So we were not impressed at all. It seems like Collin's receives their food from the local Aldi's and serves the canned and frozen food from there. Collin's prices are cheap, but I would have rather paid Aldi's directly and cooked the food myself at home.

I used to rave to all and sundry about this fish shop but the standards have slipped. I always have the small cod and used to get a lovely chunky piece with lovely white fish - now its so flat there is barely anything to it. Portion sizes remain the same and the service is ok but the fish is not so good and last week when we went it all tasted like it had been cooked in old oil. I'm very sad and hope things improve - we visit when visiting Mum and always looked forward to our trip here but not so much now

If you like fish that has been re-heated, probably many times chips that are swimming in dirty oil, cold mushy peas served by a person with a severe attitude problem, then this is the place for you. Take away not so good since use the bags, as the heat makes the food soggy especially if going to take it home and you live a couple of miles away. Restaurant much better as cooked fresh and seems to be less greasy, plus more of a choice.

This fish restaurant has a take-a-way service, which is okay - but my preference is for their restaurant which is next door. Here the fish and chips taste better, as they do not spend time in paper before eating them. The food is cooked to order, the portions are enormous (the fish platter has to be seen to be believed). The staff are friendly enough and the prices are very acceptable. I live in London where the same kind of meal would cost at least twice as much.Well worth a visit. They open early in the evening so a good place to go if you're on your way out later.

Had food from there about 6 months ago,had to wait at counter a good 5 mins while two members of staff finished chatting and smoking out the back door. Chips were lukewarm, and had obviously been sat there for hours but the fish was OK. Our most recent visit was a disaster . Older lady who works very rude, almost to the point of being nasty. Will not ever go back there. Have seen the rude lady around Brandon since then and it seems she is just as rude outside of work as she glared at us and shouted something. Seems to have made it personal. There are however a young girl and lad who work there who have served me in the past, and they are polite and friendly and the food seemed of a better standard when they were working. The older lady provided shocking customer service.

Collins fish restuarant is how it used to be before it all changed! The decor is old fashioned, it's like stepping back into the early eighties, which is quite nice. The food is outstanding! If you go more than a couple of times the waitresses remember your face and treat you like an old friend, the senior meals are really great value for money. If you are looking for upmarket fancy chow, this is not the place for you, but if you want good honest fish and chips, cooked beautifully, friendly service, clean, cheerful, quick, easy, hassle free dining... this is a must visit!

What we had was good, however, according to the Blackboard the meat was Beef, Chicken, or Gammon. Unless you are known to Chef, after we had eaten he came and offered two guests LAMB.. I will attach a picture of our ‘Large’ portions. That is unless you are known to chef, then your portion is considerably larger. Note, the small flat piece of Yorkshire pudding, or at least I think that’s what it is supposed to be. Four, yes four sprouts, I actually asked our lovely waitress if she were sure that these were large portions. Note one slice of parsnip, one slice of sweet potato, that mushed up white stuff is cauliflower cheese and sloppy broccoli. I made my issues known, it’s simply not good enough to give preferential treatment to regulars, unfortunately we are local and were just out for a Sunday lunch. Like I said what we had was nice, and graciously and politely served, but if you know chef you will get larger, large portions. Don’t go here if you don’t know chef.

We found this pub by chance and finding that it was dog friendly we decided to stop for a light lunch. We received a very warm welcome by the relatively new landlord (2 months) who spoilt our dog with treats. The waiting staff were very attentive and friendly and there was a good choice of beers and food. We opted for a portion of breaded prawns and a portion of chips to share. We are naturally chatty people and enjoyed talking to the landlord and sharing some stories. After we had finished eating a group of 8 local farriers (well it was close to Newmarket) came in and we started chatting to them as well. What a great atmosphere and we could have stayed all afternoon but had to get to our next port of call by 4.00pm. The chef also came out to join in the conversations which added to the warm, welcoming feeling. We would thoroughly recommend a visit to this lovely pub and ensure that the new landlord has success in his new venture. We need more pubs like this one.
