A very dated place, but a great place if you like listening to the staff bitch about homeless people and how the police don’t do anything about them. “Go get a bloody job, and work like I’ve had to do all my life”. All whilst sitting in the customers dining area! Now don’t get me wrong, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but there is a time and place, and this wasn’t it. Go to jollies or the last bank over the road. Coffee was nice though.

Wouldn’t recommend if you have kids. Usual place was full so I thought I would try somewhere new today as my little boy wanted some dinner. I had a toddler with me and newborn in the pram, I looked through the window and could see it was busy but there was a table with space. I struggled with my pram up the high step and not one person held the door while I was trying to get in, a lady then decided to come behind me and say she couldn’t let me in with my pram as it was too big. I could see there was lots of space, it left me feeling humiliated stood half way in the door after struggling. Maybe it was because it was full of old people they don’t want children in? Well maybe put a note on the door don’t make a fool of a mother on her own with 2 children. Read other reviews saying they ban prams, disgusting. Ban wheelchairs then??? Baby needs a pram just the same as those that need a wheelchair.

We get a lot of work lunches from here. Great food, fresh breads etc. And the soups are amazing. Great ladies working there too always friendly and happy. Definately worth a visit if youre in pontefract.

Called in recently with my sister for morning coffee. It was very busy but service was quick and the staff were polite and friendly. The atmosphere was good and there was a nice buzz about the place. Would call again.

Food excellent, overall very welcoming, unfortunately no prams allowed, no facilities for children, the manageress informed my friend when she asked about children that she didn't want screaming brats in the cafe. She then continued the conversation telling us about a customer who had just left, her comments were not kind. The staff were efficient, and on top of things, lovely to customers, which is nice to see. The cafe is desperately in need of refurbishment, decor and menus are very dated. Would go again though as the food we had was lovely, would recommend, coffee was the best we have tasted in pontefract!

Came here for a coffee with my sister before work, the staff are down to earth and brings your food out quickly. The food is always nice and never horrible.

When ever I'm in town , I always try to pop in to Coffee lounge, lovely fresh coffee and gorgeous food, cakes are especially nice, toasted teacakes are my favourite. Well worth a visit.

Really nice food, ideal for breakfast or lunch. We had sandwiches served with a small side salad and crisps served on the side. Tea is served in a small teapot that serves 2 cups. Small cafe with seating upstairs and down. Toilet access only with a key upstairs from the desk and can only pay by cash. Menus are on all walls instead of paper a copy on the table.

This is a lovely friendly cafe. The coffee and cakes are always really nice and they have a good selection of fruit and flavoureded teas.

Stopped to have coffee and a bite to eat on a shopping trip. Very friendly staff as you would expect in Yorkshire. Nice and clean interior. Very helpful staff. We just had a coffee and bacon roll or as they call it a bacon balm. We all enjoyed the food and very good coffee. Can't say about other food etc. All okay for us. Go again - why not nice place

This place was recommended by a local and we were keen to try it. Although the staff were polite and friendly, food was not of a satisfactory standard considering the price. The paninis we ordered were more like microwaved bread rolls. We were both disappointed and will definitely not be returning.

It was about 11.30 when we called in. Have visited a number of times already and quite like it. It's very convenient for that end of Ponte. Service was very good & most of staff and owner are of mature age and show care in how and what they serve. On this occasion, only had toasted teacake and cappuccino coffees which were very good. Business was quite full but not rammed. We guess this place has a regular clientele. The price was £7 for our two who h was reasonable. Paninis available for £6 looked good value and worth a try. It is run by owner with pride and she makes everyone feel welcome Only slight criticism is that tables ate quite small if you are eating a full meal.

food well prepared ,fresh ingredients , lot of the food is home made . the cakes are to die for. Staff very friendly and attentive. The place its self is always clean and tidy .

Amazing lunch yet again with speciality coffees. The homemade soup is a must try.. the staff are so friendly and helpful. I will definitely call in again.

I have only stopped here for coffee, latte, but the coffee was good and very friendly staff. Plenty of space in between tables, always a bonus.

The coffee is always top notch! The food, excellent.. never had a bad time here. I definitely suggest black coffee with cream.. it's to die for!!

Visited for a quick breakfast when in pontefract. The service was fine as was the food cooked fresh. Good value for money cafe.

Nice coffee, but manageress can be a bit abrupt. She was rather sharp with a young mum & her little one when she asked if the young child could use the toilet, making sure that she secured an order first. I felt uncomfortable; I don't think I'll return.

Recently found this little gem and so glad that I have. They serve the best salad in town. Freshly prepared with lots of different textures.

Jacket potatoes with filings are lush, great coffee and tea.... Real homemade food, well done and with great service .. recommended

Ok service and decent coffee and lunch items such as jackets and toasties. I've come here with my older daughter and friend. However, no pushchairs are allowed! As a mum with a young child that def rules out this place. Not sure why they can't accommodate as I have lunch and tea play dates quite often and I would come here if that was the case. Quite off putting when a big sign at the front door area states this! Overall, nice place but not for me!

I ask if my little one could use the toilet before we sat and had coffee and cake.I was told no. So I left. tidy

Wrong tea to table. Brought out too dear for a boil of hot water. Just daft Costa loads better thanks.

Great little coffee place, makes a lovely latte and Cappuccino, also makes great snacks, recommend going for a coffee anytime

Called in here the other day as we're opening a shop in pontefract town centre soon so needed to work out which coffee shop will be supplying their wares to satisfy my coffee addiction!Pleasant staff and nice coffee at a reasonable price so it certainly reaches the shortlist!Nice surroundings too.

This cafe deserves 5stars, excellent food, very clean establishment, brilliant staff, they go the extra mile, nothing is too much trouble. 1st rate all the way.

Called in last week met a very nice lady who is the owner I was visiting the bank and called for a drinkShe served me personally and made a delicious cup of coffee in a proper cupThe bakery was delivering some lovely cakes She gave me a loyalty card so I could build up points on each visitShe loves her cafe and values every customer I leave honest reviews of places I visit and know that over the years I have known her she would never be rude to customers I fact she goes out of her way to please customers .I love her coffee and food thankyou

Called in here today for a quick drink. Ordered a Latte and a Hot Chocolate (in that order!) the waitress asked "what was the second drink?" to which I repeated Hot Chocolate. I even added "the normal hot chocolate, not the deluxe one". When a (different) waitress brought the drinks over, she put down a Latte and a black coffee, to which I politely pointed out that I'd ordered a Hot Chocolate. She took it away, saying she'd bring the correct drink over. Had it been left at that, I wouldn't be writing this review with a poor rating but what happened next, gives this coffee shop a bad review. The 'manageress' proceeded to call over from the counter to where I was sat (which was NOT next to her) barking "you ordered a Latte and a coffee!!" To which I commented that I knew what I had ordered and it wasn't what the waitress had written down. She repeated that WAS what I'd ordered and really for the sake of the other customers, I didn't say anything else. I received the hot chocolate and on paying, another waitress apologised for the mix up. I pointed out that I knew I hadn't ordered a coffee for myself as due to a medical condition, I can't drink the stuff. The manageress appeared and in a very bolshie and rude manner, told the waitress to not charge me for the drink. I didn't have a problem with paying for both drinks, I just don't like people who think they can talk to others in that manner. The manageress obviously excelled in the " how-to-be-unprofessional-and-rude-towards-customers-who-pay-yours-and-your-staffs-wages " course!! We won't ever return here, especially when I already know, that the coffee shop a couple of doors up the street is A MUCH NICER PLACE!!!!

I go here often and the drinks and food are always nice and a reasonable price. The staff are all friendly and have often rearranged tables so the family could all sit together. Great service.

Visited this coffee shop with my wife for breakfast. Received a fastastic welcome from the working owner. The breakfast was freshly prepared using quality ingredients and served by friendly staff. This establishment leaves the major high street coffee shop brands trailing behind. This little coffee shop is a excellent example of how to operate a qualty customer focused establishment in a high street enviroment.

Really good service, friendly staff, clean and tidy, reasonable prices. Will definitely come back here again.

If you want a light meal or snack then give the coffee lounge a try,the food they serve is always freshly cooked,the soups are delicious and the staff excellent..all round a very pleasant experience..

I went in to the coffee lounge with my mum. The atmosphere was brilliant and the man who served us was exceptional. His customer service and efficiency were Superb. The food was excellent, gorgeous coffees to choose from and excellent homemade soups... The girls were really friendly and we felt as though we had known them for years .. Try it, you will DEFINATELY go back

Regularly visit this cafe whether I'm with friends or my mum. Staff are always friendly and polite. Food is fresh and delicious and well priced.

Went in a couple of weeks ago with my daughter who's in a pushchair. The manager immediately told me pushchairs weren't allowed because of space. This I could understand if the place was full but there was only two other customers there. All I wanted was a takeout cuppa which would have taken all of two minutes but she basically told me to f*** off before I could say anything. Very disappointed

First visit to this Coffee Lounge. Good selection of snacks and drinks on menu at a reasonable price. Comfortable and attractive decor. Excellent, efficient and courteous service from all staff. Thoroughly enjoyed our cappuccino, latte, scone and toasted tea cake. Will make this a regular stop when shopping. A positive addition to Pontefract's eating venues.

Far too expensive for what you get. Manageress was quite rude and her having stern words with staff in front of customers is not professional. Staff weren't very courteous and seemed uninterested.Won't be going there again.

This cafe has recently moved to a more prominent position on the otherside of Ropergate. It is spotlessly clean and nicely furnished with comfy chairs. The food is freshly prepared and excellent value for money. I will be returning very soon. It is my new fave lunch spot in Ponte.

I have to agree wholeheartedly with the reviewer who described this place as "a hidden gem". I discovered The Coffee Lounge quite by accident when they were giving out flyers for the opening, and have been here loads of times for lattes and paninis.I like it for the good service and restful atmosphere - it doesn't have the horribly congested feel that a lot of the Pontefract cafes have.It's worth mentioning that this cafe has now changed premises and is on the other side of Ropergate. I look forward to visiting the new one and hope that it will be as good as the original.

A lovely modern cafe situated above a furniture shop so it is not easy to see, never the less it has plenty of customers and the drinks and food are lovely.Wide selection of drinks accompanies with biscuits, fresh food is always available such as sandwiches / soup / paninis / jackets at a fair price.

Looking for lunch before a train back to London we despaired at the state of the pubs and were going to resort to Subway but accidentally came across this gem. Seats 26 on comfy chairs, upstairs at the back of a furniture shop, plus a couple of tables downstairs. They offer trad food - tasty jacket spuds or toasties, or you can go continental with panini, cakes and a great cappuccino. Service with a smile from the Husband/Wife/Son staff.

Just went in for a quick bite, The cafe is situated above a furniture shop in Ropergate.I had the freshly homemade soup, plus a chesse and ham panini, both were delicious.Then to close I had one of their special flavoured coffees, which was just so good.The staff there are full of smiles, and are all very friendly.In my opinion this is the best cafe in Pontefract, by a country mile
