Coffee House in Edinburgh, City of

No atmosphere, poor coffee, lacked any level of customer service. Fantastic location must rely on passing trade. Sorry 😞.

Walking down the Mile thought we would pop in to have a late breakfast. We had high expectations for our first Scottish breakfast and this did not deliver! Ordered the big Scottish breakfast and a roll with sausage, both left unfinished. Food was dry, overcooked and bland. Worst meal of our trip so far, and would recommend to avoid.

I’ve never left a review in my life but visiting this “restaurant” has unfortunately forced my hand. My biggest regret about the whole experience was failing to warn the group of people who were entering as we were leaving. My friend’s food didn’t arrive and after 25 mins she asked if they’d forgotten her order. They said they didn’t have any cheese paninis - after she had already paid for one on entry. The staff never apologised, just acted like she was creating an inconvenience. My friend then ordered a breakfast roll instead which looked absolutely disgusting when it finally arrived. She didn’t manage to finish it. I ordered a breakfast which amounted to the smallest serving of mushrooms I have ever seen, a weird sausage, a horrible hash brown and tattie scone I couldn’t eat. In fairness, the baked beans were okay. There were also several small slices of hard tomato and avocado. The water we asked for never came. They didn’t have any normal mugs or glasses anyway, only takeaway cups. The cutlery was dirty and you had to go and get it yourself, trying to choose the least dirty utensils available. The best part about eating here was reading the other damning reviews. One of their 5 star reviews is about another restaurant entirely - how they received anything above a 2 star is completely beyond me. It is clear this business thrives on naive tourists wandering in, receiving terrible service and never coming back. And thus the cycle continues. Surely no locals or repeat customers would ever frequent this joke of an establishment.

Good fresh scone and shortbread but the “americano” probably instant! It was certainly served quickly but what an expensive cuppa! Will not return. Coffee Nero would have been better for the coffee!

I pass this place when working on the Royal Mile & decided as it was so quiet I would get a roll & hot chocolate to take to work. It took 15 minutes to get my black pudding roll. Which is not worth the price, I can pay less than that at other places & get at least two slices of black pudding, & not wait 15 minutes. The hot chocolate was nice but again not worth the price. As I waited a few other people placed orders for food, it appeared that their food was brought down first, then mine which was frustrating.

Stopped for breakfast and I wish I hadn't! Terrible eggs Benedict and my husband had Scottish breakfast and sausages were awful! Coffee was served in paper cups even though we were dining in, very strange...not friendly staff. Waste of money so don't bother and plenty of better places near by.

Terrible keep walking! We went it in - unwelcoming staff, poor coffee served in paper cups (despite eating in). Daughter asked for a glass of water and was given a paper cup of hot water?!? Sausage sandwich was poor-we left them and the whole place felt dirty!

Poor quality coffee - ciabatta sandwich which was not ciabatta but a normal finger roll which was very dry and tasteless - no WiFi - no ambience. I won’t be back.

Awful. Everything that is wrong with cheap outlets taking advantage of tourists on a busy street. Everything is cheap and of no quality.

Too expensive and the quality of the food was really bad. Some fried stuff was fried days before and then heated up in the microwave, the vegan breakfast had milk butter in it and the tomato was almost rotten. My advice: don’t go!

Disappointing visit for a cafe in the centre of Edinburgh old town. It took a long time to be served. You stand at the counter and then carry drinks up stairs to your table so no table service. In the meantime the table we were sat on was not cleared of food. They did clear it when I asked them but did not wipe the table which remained sticky!! The kids had colouring books to do whilst we drank but the table was too dirty to put books on so the kids got fidgety resulting in us just wanting to get out of there.

Very poor quality for being a coffee house on the Royal Mile. Coronation chicken paninis were dry, crispy and 2 small pieces of chicken, mostly leaves and sultanas. Very overpriced for both the food/drinks and facilities do not feel fresh and tables not cleared and cleaned for next customers.

The coffee house offers a nice experience with friendly and helpful staff. However, some might find the prices higher than expected.

Looked fine but cappuccino was lukewarm at best - without apology the member of staff put it back into metal coffee pot to warm it up with the steamer - the one being used to make cappuccinos for other customers! The area outside and the doors into the toilets were both grubby and tatty and the toilet itself in an unacceptable state . WC blocked , water dripping everywhere, no soap, dryers or towels etc Objectively EHO should visit

Prijzig, rommelig, maar prima drankjes en hapjes/gebak. Er staan binnen een aantal kleine tafeltjes. Ruimte is erg warm en rommelig. Geen bediening aan de tafel. Bediening aan de kassa is snel. Het gebak en de pancakes zijn heerlijk!

Stopped in the coffee house for some coffee and cake, host was very welcoming and acknowledging despite being busy serving others too! Had one mocha, and two cakes (chocolate muffin, Victoria sponge) the sponge was delicious! So soft and melt in your mouth texture! Overall really good experience and would return again!

The “food” was so bad that you just know there is no point complaining because anyone who understood food wouldn’t dare serve it to paying customers

The young girl who worked there was very helpful, they didn’t have skimmed milk for our tea so she went to the shops to buy some.

£2 for a can of Coke and when I said I'd pay for that and a frappe for my partner, I was charged only for the coke and she was charged for the frappe. Frappe left a lot to be desired. Young woman behind the counter was nice, friendly and helpful though, I feel bad for her in writing this.

Popped in for a quick coffee and cake after a morning walking about Edinburgh. Tea room was just an average looking café, but the coffee and cakes were delicious and reasonably priced. I had a latte and a massive raspberry and white chocolate muffin and my husband had a macchiato and slice of chocolate cake. Service was very quick and efficient, from pleasant friendly staff and bill came to just over £10 for both of us. Will definitely be back for coffee and cake when next in Edinburgh.

Disgusting full Scottish Breakfast for £11 Rubber egg only got one, but advertised two, same with sausage which was pale and tasteless, cold black pudding, swimming in grease uneatable !!! I would give a zero rating if I could !

Amazing coffee and very nice place. Mami is such a lovely and hardworking girl, she made our stay so pleasant and enjoyable. She’s definitely a credit to the team.

I paid £11 for the worst breakfast I’ve ever eaten. The Scottish breakfast was made with the cheapest ingredients and the cooking was woeful which compounded the vile food. Repulsive sausages, microwaved eggs and you could saw someone’s head off with the worlds hardest bacon. In fact the less driest thing on the plate was the toast. If you really are that hungry and want something more edible I’d suggest cutting your arm off and eat that instead. In a nutshell, avoid. Before I escaped from this hell of an establishment I managed to warn a couple to escape the place and not eat here. If only I could have saved more.

The food was inedible. Breakfasts seemed like they’d been sat out all morning and literally arrived at our table before we’d even finished giving our order at the till. Wraps are an absolute no go !! Extremely overpriced and not worth a single penny. I have to say the young girl with braided hair was too good to be working there, she was extremely hard working and seemed to be responsible for every role.
