Nice wee pub. Stopped on the way from the rugby. Very friendly and good service.

Always a great selection of real ales and ciders. Service always speedy by friendly and knowledgeable staff. Since re-opening in Nov 22 service and choice of drinks has widened even further. Edinburghs' finest

A good, traditional pub which hasn't changed much since I used to drink there some 20+ years ago.

Came across this gem of a pub while in Edinburgh for the weekend. We enjoyed it so much the first night that we came back on our second night. Super friendly staff and a great choice of drinks available. Also, it’s a dog friendly pub and there’s a selection of board games for customers to play. Will definitely be back next time we’re in Edinburgh.

I ordered (and paid for) a particular drink and when I realised it wasn't what I asked for the barman said it was the closest he had...poor service.

First visit, quite a dark bar, few candles on the table, visited at 6pm and the bar was steadily busy, good Wi-Fi signal, not much atmosphere as everyone was chatting to themselves, if they have live music I’m sure it would increase the atmosphere 100%.

Dogs are actively encouraged! Great atmosphere, great service and drinks selection and ideal location.

Barman was either deaf or very rude. A shame because otherwise its a nice place, of a bit expensive.

Ignored. Stood at Bar for 10 minutes while girls talked amongst themselves. Dreadful. Left and went to better Bar

Had a day out in Edinburgh yesterday with a few mates. All lads in our 40s. Started in the chanter across the road. Had a few in there and decided to try the blue blazer. We were in the door 20 seconds before we were told that, because there were 6 lads, we couldn’t come in. No more than 5 apparently. Sorry but that’s pathetic. We took our cash elsewhere.

Whisky bar with a great atmosphere and fantastic friendly and knowledgeable staff. There's a wide range of whiskies of different flavors and ages to explore at different price points. The nights I've been, there's also been really good live music.

Turned up at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon to an EMPTY pub. We were a group of 6 of 40-50year old men going to a traditional old school real ale pub that is usually much loved for a passing 1-2 pints. Seems standard clientele for standard class of pub, I’ve known it well for 20 years?? Very shocked to be turned away, based on the reason that groups of 5+ need a booking apparently - but the pub was empty?? Young “modern” staff seemingly didn’t like the look of what is the target clientele arriving. It wasn’t a busy night or a stag party arriving, just didn’t like a group of men arriving. I gave no argument or debate, and left, embarrassed I had sold this as a good pub to visit. Shocking approach by the staff, and I find amazing that consumers would be turned away outside peak time. I won’t be back solo or smaller groups , there are other more amicable and nicer vibe pubs in Edinburgh.

Consistently a good pub. I thought the "What can't you get in the States" Whisky List was a very clever idea to engage with our transatlantic cousins. Nice to see a selection of dark beers on the pumps.

Wow. What a boozer. Been to Edinburgh plenty of times, but my first time popping in here. Whisky selection next level and came with some good bar knowledge as well. They didn't have what I wanted, but was comfortably able to recommend a great similar alternative. Live music during the day and evening (we were there on a saturday). Will definitely be back again

Small city centre characterful, traditional bar with occasional live music. Has a great selection of beers, whiskies and rums and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Toilets are down a rather steep set of stairs, so it may not be suitable for people with mobility problems.

Second rate in every sense. £25 for three pints and one prosecco. They are having a laugh.

Spent a very enjoyable evening here. We were enticed in by the sound of live blues music. We then went on to enjoy several fantastically kept local ales, RumDMC being extremely good. All the staff were friendly and welcoming, so much so we'll be back for more today!!

Reliable place for a beer and comfy seat. The toilets are down fairly narrow stairs so don't be desperate!

Solo travelling through Europe and decided to stop in at this spot while I was in Edinburgh. Lovely quaint little pub with great atmosphere and incredibly friendly staff. Lots of different local beers to choose from to suit just about anyone’s taste! If you’re up for a chat with locals and tourists alike, definitely give this pub a go!

If you're a foreigner they give you the popes collar no matter how many pints you order. Edit: don't try and write me off pal. I'm a young blonde American woman traveling alone and you didn't pour anyone else's pints at the bar like you poured mine. On the third beer the Irish bloke next to me called you out for how bad mine were. I'm grateful to know there's a polite term for it. I knew what you were doing but was too embarrassed to tell you because you were training a new employee at the time and the whole thing was awkward. So: deal with the consequences of your behavior and don't try to pretend something else happened or pretend I don't know what I'm talking about. Since you responded (thank you) and because your glasses and your taps were clean, I will change it to 3/5 now. And, if you apologize for the two other pours you didn't fix and for the way you tried to write me off in this response, I will change it to 5 stars and we can call it resolved.

Great spot. Had a delicious bottle of prosecco. Barman was sound and told a little bit of the history of the pub.

This was the first bar I ever walked into in October 2005 when I started visiting Edinburgh regularly. Every year, mostly twice per year, we visited, it was our first and last pitstop. Sadly, it has declined in the last few years. I had heard recently that it had had a new Manager and was on the up with Open Mic nights, but the whisky and ale/beer choice has seriously shrunk and now doesn't seem to carry the basics (Caol Il 12). I visited in February and found it a shame from the high it was once at and I will visit again in October to see if there have been any changes for the better. Please restore it to its previous glory!!!!

New management have taken over. I liked this pub before, it has character. However, now they are bringing life to it. There are more choices (and thankfully a gluten free beer on tap). The staff are friendly without being pushy. The atmosphere has improved, there is music, stand up comedy nights, a changing cocktail menu, updated social media and even the talk of a pub quiz and live music in the future. Thank you. I'm grateful. I'll be in there more often.

Die Einrichtung hat uns gefallen, es war gemütlich (es gab sogar Brettspiele) und die Auswahl an Getränken war gut. Es war allerdings sehr ruhig für einen Samstagabend…! Lag das am demotivierten Personal? Beim einen Barkeeper hatte ich den Eindruck, dass er Mühe mit allem hatte (Suchen der Getränke, Glas fiel herunter, Bezahlung). Achtung: nur Barzahlung und die Frauentoilette funktionierte nicht!

Unfortunately, the ladies toilet was out of order, the gents had backed up, and you could smell it throughout the pub. The beer I tried had also soured. Staff weren't particularly welcoming. Bad experience.

I was taught that if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything. Silence.

One of Edinburgh's original, characterful pubs. Quite small, but a cosy area of seating at back, which isn't obvious when you enter. Beer options excellent, both cask and keg. Well worth the short trip from the Grassmarket or Tollcross.

Great little spot with local vibes, craft beer, and a fair selection of whisky at affordable prices. Had a Jura 12 and an Ardbeg 10. Nice warmth as the sun comes through the windows. Cozy back area with some board games and a few tables. Wonder if they ever have fires in the fireplace? Staff was super friendly and helpful as well! Would return.

A brilliant traditional pub with a fine variety of cask ales, whiskies and possibly others but, being a fan of the barley, difficult to say. Music levels low enough to allow conversation, absence of big screens a boon. Sadly, for me, some way off normal migration passages, nevertheless it's certainly worth a detour and, indeed, a journey when a blether and a beer is on order.
