This was the first place we came across that did a breakfast. Visited as a family of 3 with our 7 year old. The husband ordered a breakfast (£12). He asked not to get tomatoes and was given an extra hash brown. I'm not sure if he was charged for this as we weren't given a receipt. The daughter wanted pancakes... £9. We were offered a small portion (I was just going to share with her), so, 2 small portions. Small portion had 2 pancakes instead of 3.. they weren't overly big. Typically, they would come with seasonal toppings, which we were advised to be apple cinnamon, I think. This wasn't to our taste, so we were offered and accepted Nutella. When the pancakes came, they also had squooshy cream and ice cream. Really not to my taste at all. Ice cream at breakfast? I hate ice cream melting into anything (fudge cake etc) so if I knew it was coming with, I would have asked for without or on the side.. I didn't want to raise the issue (this makes my husband uncomfortable). Therefore, I had to eat the unwanted ice cream quickly before it melted. Husband had a tea with his breakfast and I opted for a caramel latte. Small cup given and to.be honest, was Luke warm. Nice flavours but, Luke warm. Daughter asked for a hot chocolate and they offerred a small version for her. She ate the cream off thw top but in thw words of a 7 year old "the hot chocolate tastes funky." She didn't finish it. The only toilet is up 3 steps. Fine for us, not if less mobile. All in £30ish quid. No receipt given.

We visit this cafe regularly, great coffee , great service , friendly staff and good food -can recommend the full English breakfast, avocado, scrambled egg and bacon on sourdough. There is a good choice of pastries and home-made cake.

We went to this place because it had decent reviews. The service was fine and it is dog friendly.we ordered a tuna melt sandwich which was OK. My wife ordered the pancakes with Nutella and wait for it was £9!!!! and what she got was shocking,3 tiny tasteless thin pancakes and the smallest portion of Nutella.we also ordered 2 lattes which cost £3.80 each + another 50p each because it was in a mug.We can honestly say it was the worst coffee we had ever had like a cup of warm milk. Our bill was £25 which in our opinion was shocking.

I visited with my husband whilst out in Ripon as it looked nice online. I ordered the strawberry milkshake and a cinnamon swirl. What a huge mistake! It was the driest cinnamon swirl ever, like chewing cardboard and the milkshake was shocking, so tasteless and like it was made with just flavoured powder and milk! I expected it to be made with fresh strawberries, strawberry sauce, and ice cream etc like a proper strawberry milkshake should be made. Not sure how old the bun was but cinnamon swirls should never be very dry. I left the majority of the bun and milkshake they were that disappointing. I ordered a latte instead which was actually nice.

Gotta be one of the best in town! Superb friendly service. The food was very tasty and served as requested, also in reasonable time. Coffee smooth and tasty. This coffee shop offers a lot of choice of drinks and food and the price is very good.

New owners (was Bliss's) have redecorated very nicely and the welcome was warm and friendly with fast and efficient service. Had the full English and here had a couple of issues. Firstly no black pudding, big no no for all full English afficienados, same applies to no mushrooms! Onto the subject of accompanying toast, sorry guys but the trend for serving sourdough is another no no for me personally particularly as toasted sourdough takes on the texture of a roof tile. A good quality white or granary does the trick every time. Excellent pot of tea (Yorkshire tea bags) so hope the constructive criticism helps.

We used to frequent the previous establishment at this address which unfortunately closed recently. We decided to give this a try and see if it compared. So good - great service, still dog friendly, very clean and delicious food. Glad we went and we will definitely be back again in the future.

Started going here now for coffee and they do a very good flat white. It is the best in Thirsk. Also, cafe nice and clean and friendly and helpful staff. Also dog friendly. It will now be my regular as tried all other cafes and either the coffee is poor or they are not kept clean.

So lovely in here and had the most delicious bacon and brie panning served with delicious coleslaw and rocket. The ciabatta bread was wonderful apparently all breads are baked fresh daily and then delivered and it showed ! Maybe a panning sounds a fairly basic lunch but at the ripe old age of 71 have never had one SO delicious .Delightful staff and lovely relaxing interior and dog friendly too.Highly recommend! Thankyou all so much Wendy Hasnip

My in-laws live down the road from this brilliant little pub. It was great to go to for evening drinks and Sunday Roast. Definitely worth visiting and enjoyed the food, service, drink options, and the people.

A cut above your normal Sunday pub lunch. Excellent presentation and really tasty. Not the normal boiled veg. Very good.

Seven of us were spending a week flying at the Yorkshire Gliding Club, Sutton Bank and on a rainy morning we visited the Gavel for Breakfast on a Club Member’s recommendation. If you’re looking for a full English breakfast this is definitely the place to go. Good quality nicely cooked breakfast, good portions,(you would have to be ravenous to go for the large), excellent value for money, good service and friendly staff. Look forward to going to try the lunch on our next visit.
