Coffee Angel in Edinburgh, City of

Was in earlier today, immediate impression was a bad one. For a start the (only) staff member there was indifferent and unfriendly. As a result I felt very uncomfortable and it was apparent this individual just didn't want to be there, or just didn't appreciate their customers. The place itself is a bit shabby and badly needs a makeover. Given that there's plenty of other cafes nearby, I would recommend people go elsewhere.

Kind of depressing. Uninspired food and thoroughly average coffee. WiFi cuts out about every thirty seconds. Music playing over the speakers is a modern equivalent of elevator music. The person behind the counter wasn't rude, but also couldn't care less about my patronage. I had a premade croque Monsieur and a long black, which was over-extracted. I really want this place to be good, but I just can't find anything good to say.

Took 2 coffee to go only with no sitting in, but never again. Unfriendly and rude service. Ok, it’s noted. There so many great places in our neighbourhood to choose from.

Pleasant, casual atmosphere and lots of space to sit, eat, drink, and work. Coffee is good. The food is standard cafe fare, with the more substantial items prepackaged.

Had a coffee before going to Botanical gardens edinburgh. Nice friendly staff

Our simple lunch order of 2 soups took more than 30 mins to arrive. When it did it was stone cold. When I complained I was met with a very defensive and argumentative manager who blamed the problem on it being busy. Firstly it wasn't busy at all, secondly it was lunchtime. She then went on to use the excuse of it being a charity for the bad service!!!! I basically had to ask for an apology which was given in extremely bad grace.

Lovely, clean and calming. I had made a rather lengthy walking journey with my baby in his pram to the new bakery up the road to find it was closed, despite saying it was open online. Tired, achey and in need of a cold refreshment, I came across this cafe ‘coffee angel’. Sounded perfect!! The lady who served me was lovely and calming. The location is perfect and quiet as it’s off the beaten track. Seats are a-plenty and my coffee was presented beautifully! Thank you!

Good coffee but it would have been nice to have a vegan sandwich or roll available.

Popped in here on a day trip to Edinburgh. The menu has an extremely good selection all at very reasonable prices. We chose the Mushroom Toast (sautéed mushrooms in a tarragon cream sauce with balsamic glaze and salad) along with French Toast & Bacon (brioche French toast with bacon, tomato & maple syrup). Both very tasty and potion sizes were good. The coffee is nice and the service delivered with a smile. Lovely clean restaurant in a good central location. Recommend a visit if you fancy something different and remember, you can "Pay It Forward' which is a nice thing to do.

This cafe could do with a clean up and new paint job. The cakes don't seem handmade but the coffee isn't bad. Main issue they constantly seem to be out of various options on the menu such as Earl Grey teabags, hot chocolate syrup and the like.

I've been a regular customer here since they first opened in Brandon Terrace: they have two really interesting and tasty veg toasties . The female wait staff have always been aloof/disinterested, but the last three times I've been in, they've been too busy flirting with - in all three cases - the only other customer at the front counter, who happened to be male to even acknowledge me. After nearly four minutes of waiting, I gave up and walked out, and I certainly won't be coming back.

Great coffee and food with friendly staff. Has vegetarian food options in separate fridge. Great for catching up with friends, a business lunch or doing uni work.

I don't have much spare time, but when I do get an hour after work and meet my mum, we always look forward to going to the coffee angel! Great service, lovely barista that is always so charming and genuinely friendly and smiley. Bathroom facility is spotless and it's usually a very quiet and relaxing atmosphere when we visit. Coffee is super delicious, so happy about plant milk being an option too.

Possibly the worst lunch I've had in 10 years coffee shop hopping in Edinburgh. Someone forgot the chorizo and chicken in my chorizo and chicken chiabatta!

It's nice enough, coffee pretty good. Decor is brutal, has zero curb appeal, way too much brown: window frames, tables, chairs, sofas, ceiling, walls, blinds, lampshades, tiles etc . it's relentlessly depressing.

Service is abrupt and unfriendly. It's a shame as the foods good but staff have zero customer service .Plenty of other places around with much better service.

Cappuccino too milky, not great for a place named coffee angel. That said there are very few places get this right.

Excellent service and good quality coffee next snacks

People, including staff, still have to wear face coverings in indoor settings such as shops, hospitality venues and public transport. At the Coffee Angle Cafe on Brandon Terrace, 24 November the two staff preparing drinks behind the counter, serving food to take away customer and the one who served and cleared tables were not wearing face masks. When asked why they were not wearing mask they simply shrugged and pulled faces. While all the customers entering, leaving and moving around at that time, except those seated ere wearing, whllst serving and moving around close to customers and making delieries to tables were not. There was no cleaning of tables between customers and the tables showed signs of previous use. Tables like the toilet was far from clean, no venitaltion evident from the condesation on the windows. Best avoided to maintain your health. Poor quality environment with lack of cleanliness and Covid-19 health measure for staff or customers.

Excellent coffee brewed with in-house roasted beans (also possible to buy the beans) and good, friendly service.

The coffee/smoothies were really good but there wasn't really any atmosphere to the place.

Looks fantastic on Instagram but unfortunately the service was pretty rude and slow. Seemed annoyed we had gone in!

Agree with Donny G - zero atmosphere, sultry service, took forever for coffee to be brought to our table in a silent characterless room with about 3 other customers. Go down the road to Di Giorgio which looks much better just had no tables when we looked in.

Today I found the service to be quite clinical, the server looked like the only one around a fairly busy coffee shop so fair enough to them if they've got a lot to do but I didn't get good vibes, no chat from them really. Coffee wasn't good enough to counterbalance the service so I don't think I'll be back.

Tables scratched, coffee bland, cakes far too sweet. You can hear every word other customers are saying. £12 ! Waste of money.

Strange experience ordered two pots of tea and received two very large paper cups with a tea bag hanging over them. Might be something to do with Covid ???

Nice place to sit and watch the world go by, but thoroughly miserable service. From the look she gave me, you'd have thought I'd insulted the barista's mother rather than just order a hot drink!

Loved the website description of the owners dream of owning a coffee shop that they would visit. Sadly our visit didn’t live up to their ‘warm welcome’ as the only staff member on duty was distracted by her mobile phone and looked quite put out that we had interrupted her texting. 2 coffees & 2 warm croissants seemed straight forward enough and we were asked to pay up front, no real issue as we were sitting outside. We waited some time and could smell the croissants burning aroma as the sugar in the pastry turned to carbon. The coffee was ready but sat on the counter with the two sacrificial offerings next to them. Server then walked all the way round the counter and across the cafe and outside to tell us our order was ready for us to collect. On spotting the charred remains asked for another two croissants. Clearly unhappy with our request offered no recognition nor apology. Returned to our table and had almost finished our tepid coffee when the croissants were thrown down in front of us. Obviously table service is acceptable on occasion. To sum up, no friendly welcome, surly & rude server, tepid coffee and soggy croissants second time around. Owners clearly not on the ball (or maybe not on duty) if this is the service they now provide. Many businesses went to the wall during COVID-19 and didn’t survive to reopen, sadly for coffee lovers in Edinburgh this one did.

Writing this review on behalf of my husband who has been using coffee angel of late to meet for business. Unfortunately he won't be using this place again as it is unwelcoming and unfriendly lacking charisma and atmosphere.

The coffee here is good, but every time I go in, I am reminded how incredibly slow the service is. The prices are pretty fair. The cafe really needs renovated, the decor is tired and many of the chairs are ripped and discoloured. That being said, it is a good choice if you want somewhere you can do work, as they have plenty room to sit-in, and free wi-fi.

Stepped in for a cuppa on our way home. One of the few coffee houses open in the holiday season. Ordered a hot chocolate and mocha. Well lit interiors and a friendly vibe. The drinks were standard fare, nothing to complain about. The sides however were delicious. We went for a raspberry and coconut cake and croissants as accompaniments. Absolutely delicious. Well worth it.

A now regular favourite, a bit more expensive but with it as it's a high quality coffee. Probably as I walk into work past it. Can't go in as often as I would I like.

Had lunch here recently when in the area and was disappointed by the experience. Paninis and hot drinks were fine, but it was the general atmosphere and appearance of the place which really let it down. Just seemed a bit shabby and unloved and would benefit from a good clean. Didn't feel like a place I wanted to linger for any longer than necessary.

Great service, coffee and selection of pastries and cakes. Had a lovely fresh wholemeal scone with proper butter. Nice comfortable table and padded bench seating. Also good wifi always a plus

Good place for coffee and lunches.. I visited this with my office colleagues.. we had our lunch (sandwiches which they warm it for you /soup) by sitting there as they do have kind of sitting area. Overall it was good. 👍👍

Piccola caffetteria all'inizio di Dundas street,accogliente e familiare. Il luogo dove riscaldarsi con una buona tazza di caffè bollente. Per i bambini esiste il babyccino una grande trovata. Il personale non è proprio un fulmine di guerra diciamo che ha i suoi tempi.

Hadn't even entered coffee Angel yet, but saw the two "baristas" on shift point to my direction and burst into laughter.I just come here to wait on my girlfriend who works across the road. Not to be ridiculed by two pretentious, unmotivated, members of staff, who seem to think they're part of some hierarchy cause they serve bitter coffee.

Ive been a few times, I've not felt like the staff was very welcoming. The seating area is comfy though. But the tea is also sub par. The last time I was there the staff started to bleach the floors while there were still a few customers eating and drinking, including myself. The fumes made me nauseous and I couldn't finish my tea.

Me decepcionó mucho cuando me las arreglé para trabajar y encontrarme con un cliente en Coffee Angel. Desafortunadamente, su WiFi aún no funcionaba, había visitado la semana anterior y también estaba descompuesta, ¡así que esperaba que se solucionara! El personal era amable y proporcionaba servicio de mesa para los cafés que pedimos, sin embargo los cafés estaban fríos. Los baños no están limpios y la puerta se abre directamente a las mesas.

In here every morning, best coffee in the Burgh

The place is dirty with cobwebs on the walls and ceilings. The white chairs are gray of finger stains, same with the toilet door. Coffee was good, but most places do good coffees nowadays. I liked the old chairs and tables though.

Buen café y tarta se veía bien. Pero el desayuno se preparó con panini y luego con tostado nuclear (es decir, demasiado) muy seco y crujiente. Realmente no es bueno, como Starbucks o una cadena pero sin el control de calidad y el control estricto sobre el tiempo de cocción. No volvería allí para el desayuno otra vez, pero creo que estaría bien para café y pastel.

Great coffee and food. A nice place to meet or go to with friends especially as you don't feel like you are crammed in and people are listening to your conversations. The toilet could be doing with updating though as well as a mirror that can be looked in if you are smaller than 6ft!!!!

They roast their own beans. Best flat white in Edinburgh:)

Неуютный интерьер, потертые столы и стулья, настолько ободранных диванов не видели еще нигде (жаль, не сделали фото)! На соседних столиках были крошки - видимо, персонал не особо заботится о чистоте заведения. В туалете был неприятный запах и полное отсутствие горячей воды. Единственным плюсом был хороший кофе и вкусные маффины и печенья, хотя выбор еды был невелик (мы пришли после обеда, наверное, многое было съедено). Персонал был достаточно официально холоден. В Эдинбурге есть кофейни достойнее уровнем и ценами ниже, чем Coffee Angel. Больше не придем.

Had lovely croissants and porridge. Coffee was delicious. Lovely cafe atmosphere with big windows looking out onto the street. Couches and comfy chairs. No booking needed.

Reasonably good choice of panini for vegetarians, okay coffee, pastries very small for what they charge. Service leaves a lot to be desired. Two people were stood behind the counter, and I was the only customer waiting for service. It took around 30 seconds to be acknowledged. She put my sandwich on the grill without another word, and both then stood with their noses glued to their phones for the next four or five minutes. I go in fairly regularly and had been in twice earlier that week, but there was no friendly smile or any chat. Maybe I didn't look cool enough to merit a smile?

Brilliant toasties - imaginative combinations of flavours - good coffee, and pricey pastries. Staff are competent but mostly not very outgoing, which is always a surprise to me (I go in here at least fortnightly, and have only once had any sort of banter with them).

Chilled environment and great coffee

First visit to this coffee shop and wasn't disappointed. Nice hot coffee and excellent choice of cakes. Only criticism is the brown leather sofa we sat on looks dirty as it is so well worn and tatty.

A small quiet cafe, I walked in to pass some time and was surprised at the variety of their salads and sandwiches. I ordered green tea and it was delivered to my table by the window. There is a relaxed atmosphere and the staff were very helpful. It’s my new go to place, prices were reasonable and if you need it there is free WiFi.

After a disastrous walk (bad signage on the Water of Leith path) we were desperate for a coffee .... and how lucky we were! Very smooth coffee, despite our sad requests for half strength and skinny milk etc, served with a friendly smile. Very nice cafe. Will go again. Oh, and the cake was good too!

stopped in for tea and a bagel before walking the royal mile and the castle. staff was super nice and the tea was delish. would definitly stop in again . Nice little coffee shop
