This is a long overdue review. I've been to Cod and Fry about five times over the past year and it's always been excellent. I usually get fish and chips for my dad and I. He is a tough crowd when it comes to his food but he looooves the generous portions, crispy batter, succulent fish and first class chips, as do I. I can't comment on the delivery service because my dad lives nearby so I always order and collect in the shop. The food is cooked to order so is always fresh and hot when unwrapped. My sole criticism is the omission of mushy peas from the menu. If they were available I'd give 6 stars! Last Saturday I changed my order, having read the reviews here. I can confirm the Masala Fish is amazing. With its slightly spicy coating, fresh salad and garlic sauce, it really is a taste sensation. The pricing is certainly competitive too. The chap who serves me is always friendly and sometimes singing, which is a rare treat too. 😊 So thanks guys, keep up the great work! 👍

Fabulously fresh fish abs chips - clean and good portion sizes. The masala cod was brilliant as was the spicy chicken burger.

We came off the M40 to grab a takeaway on a long journey and found the Cod and Fry. It looked clean and inviting, so in we went! The guys running it were really welcoming and friendly. As well as all the usual chippy suspects, they do kebabs and various asian influenced food. We both love fish and chips and decided to both try the Masala cod and chips meal. Excellent! Not too much chilli heat, just beautifully spiced which really enhanced the flavour of the fish. The fish was cooked to order and well worth the short wait. Soft and flakey with a lovely fresh taste. The chips were also excellent and freshly cooked. The meal including a can of pop (I had the passion fruit rubicon, great match with the spicy fish!) cost less than £6, so good value imho.

The three of us each had their Beef & Reef special which was sirloin steak and breadcrumbed king prawns with chips & petit pois. The meal was utterly delicious. I can't reccomend it enough. Stayed for several drinks into the evening and the atmosphere was great. A superb pub with attentive staff who know how to keep a great cellar.

Full pouring a pint of Guinness... Bad start. Dead on a thursday night. Funny chat from the locals made up for the poor pints.

The vibe in here is so stuffy and dated which sort of lets down the entire experience. It very much feels like eating in your grandparents lounge (carpets, no music or atmosphere, date chairs and very packed in). The staff are really young and therefore lacking any real knowledge of the food or helpful interactions with guests. We asked for bread and our waitress said ‘um we only give you the bread once you’ve actually ordered your food’. I don’t think it’s their fault at all but seems like a real lack of training. The cup of mushroom soup served in an espresso cup as an amuse-bouche was truly not great or appetising in any way. Our mains were okay, beef was beautifully cooked and the set lunch menu is a great deal (£25 for two courses) but this place is truly so overrated and needs a huge revamp to not feel like it’s stuck in 1982.
