Cock Inn in Rochford

What a little gem this place is! We needed a dog friendly pub to dine with a friend but as we're no longer locals we had to choose based on reviews. Delighted with our choice. It was a treat to eat here. A friendly welcome, fairly priced and fantastic food (the fishcakes were delicious!) And our spaniel really appreciated the dog's menu too! Will certainly return when we're next over this way.

We came in for a drink with my 92 year old dad on Friday night. He’s in a wheelchair and sometimes pins make that a problem- not here!! Suzanne in particular made it so easy for us - and we’ll be back for food next time. A warm, friendly welcome and the kind of pub that makes you want to spend the evening. Great!

The staff are so friendly and the manager Dan makes the experience so much better he is so accommodating and welcoming very pleasant experience x

It was my daughters 40th Birthday and we came here for lunch. The food was very nice and the waitress who served us was very pleasant and helpful. We would definitely return!

we had a great lunch . staff first class . one problem man on next table on his mobile . please go outside if you wish to have a conversation with swearing , not nice but other than that a lovley lunch will be back

The service was slow to non existent, I ordered the lamb shank at £14.99 when it arrived it was the size of a large drumstick with 8 CHIPS and a spoonful of peas smothered in gravy to make it look more I guess. My friend had scampi again 8 pieces and my other friend had hunters chicken which was half a breast!! Expensive and minuscule. Went to Maccas on the way home as I was still hungry !! Never to be repeated 😡

So the good - food, staff, atmosphere However, we had to wait an hour and a half for our food. No warning. When we queried how long we had been waiting we were told there was a hour wait and our food would be about 20 minutes. 40 minutes later it finally arrived. Told by a staff member they hadn’t been aware of the delay when we ordered. However, they must have become aware but didn’t bother to tell us.

I went with a friend and we both had a lovely meal. Great food and service. My friend become unwell and the staff and manager were very understanding and helpful and enabled her to recover enough to go home. I will be forever grateful.

Booked a table for a meal and was seated in the front area of the pub as this was the only table free then we waited 20 minutes and no one came to offer us a drink or take the food order so got hold of the waiter and he said it was order at the bar at that table area so I pointed out that if you had made a reservation you can have table service just because you sat us at this table is not our problem it's yours and we was not told this so we got up and left because in my opinion if you go to the trouble of reserving a table you should be served at your table and as the cock inn is local to us and have used it through the booking service lot of times in the past with no problems we would not use it in the future if a reservation means self service.

Left with my lids after a large fight in the garden. Actual physical harm being affected on many people including women. Scary.

Left with my kids crying after I promised them some chips. In this pubs big "family" garden after a large punch up between many male and female heavy drinkers. There was hardly any attempt from staff to handle the issue. Language was load and foul. Other kids were crying. Like something out of a film, left quickly. What a boozy pub!

What an amazing, friendly pub, great food and service. We had our dog with us too and the staff were so friendly and accommodating

We come here most Wednesday evenings for the quiz always packed out and a great atmosphere along with great food and drink!! Must always remember to book tho our you miss out!!

Food excellent and had a Sunday lunch. Staff lovely. Looking forward to going back for another lunch. Well worth the money.

This is a beautiful old pub with a loverly setting. Staff where friendly enough and service was quick enough but food was just less than average. A hunters chicken and lamb shank felt like microwave meals and the kids pizza is just a microwave pizza. Just expected more considering we spent over £60 had a better cheaper meal @ hungry horse. And one last little thing raspberry compote really doesn't go with the biscoff cheesecake. Once again beautiful setting less than average food. Shame as we live so close.

Visited the Cock Inn (Mother’s Day) for Sunday lunch. Looked after by Tommy (front of house) & Sue (behind the bar) in a friendly and welcoming manner. The service was excellent; food & drinks first class - certainly no complaints from my party. Overall good value for money in very pleasant surroundings. We will certainly visit again.

Tommy was a perfect server - managing our party of 10 brilliantly - with just the right amount of friendly, efficiency and flair. Food the perfect portions, lovely and hot with imaginative and creative presentation!

Our group of friends met at the Cock Inn today for lunch and a well needed catch up. We were looked after by Tommy & Sue in a friendly & welcoming manner. The service was excellent, the food and drinks were fabulous, no complaints at all. Excellent value for money in very pleasant surroundings, we will no doubt visit again.

A last-minute booking, the lower area was busy with a large birthday party. We were offered a choice of going upstairs which was the right choice. The service was as timely as we expected for such a busy time on a Sunday. We were not kept waiting too long. The staff even gave a hand to carry all the drinks to the table. The food was good quality and served hot as it should be. 5 empty plates speaks volumes. The Eton Mess was a little disappointing but my crumble was excellent. Thank you all.

Not great. It's a small menu, I did expect to have more choice for quite a large pub/restaurant. No sandwiches, Ploughman's, or jacket potatoes. On top of this, the waiting staff said there was no fish available- so anything with fish was off the menu, making the choice even smaller. The roast was dry (a reheated microwaved texture to the potatoes) and one slice of parsnip rather than plural! Toby does much better. There was a problem with one of our parties' food. Misunderstandings do happen (although very surprised the waiting staff did not clarify the dish at the time if there were different options available) But it may have been nice to have been offered a drink or something whilst waiting. Instead, the wrong dish was taken away with nothing left for them to eat whilst waiting a long time for their replacement. Everyone had finished when it turned up. Not the best service. This might have been forgiven, but when something as simple as dessert comes along wrong too, then there is an issue with the order taking. There was even a conversation at the time about the actual dessert with the waitress, so we know what was definitely ordered. Not really sure what was going on at this point! Not somewhere we would recommend or return to in a hurry.

Not much to be said. I called in here on my way ti a funeral wake. A miserable old woman took my drinks order and when my friend turned up he was completely ignored as she was busy folding napkins. I had to politely shout at her to get her attention to get my friend a drink. Used to be one of my locals. It will not be again. I’d rather be back at the funeral.

After a horrendous meal at another pub it was so nice to heave a delicious meal here! Servers were so lovely, food was fast and reasonably priced and tasted lovely. The only negative is the portion size for a side of chips was disgustingly small, you were lucky if you got 10 chips. However have very much become a regular here, and bring my work lot, friends and family whenever I get a chance

After a disastrous Xmas dinner elsewhere, we booked the cock inn for New Year’s Day as a replacement tribute dinner to our late mother,grandmother, Absolutely fantastic food, service and hospitality, the food was delicious and hot, fruit crumble to die for, and service second to none, would highly recommend this place to anyone. Well done and thanks for a great time, see you again .

My husband, son, dog and I went for an early supper at the cock inn and were so impressed. The food was excellent value, very good, the service was great and the interior was so festive. We liked it so much I took my mother and son a few days later and will likely be going again this weekend. Great find for dog owners who want to take their dogs out with them and enjoy a good pub lunch.

Came for a large party, with a very limited choice set menu which had to be ordered in advance, which was fair enough. Our choices were even specified on our place settings, to make like easier for waiting staff and forgetful guests. My chosen starter of pate was unavailable, so I was given baked Camembert, which was disappointing as I’d ordered cheese for dessert. Although I rarely order steak - because it’s so easy to cook well at home - I could face the alternative of turkey - I opted for one cooked ‘rare’. It was even confirmed on the place setting. In France, I would order it ‘medium’. But I know venues like the Cock Inn have a tendency to overcook. What I received was a tough piece of meat, so oxymoronically ‘well done’ Donald Trump would have rejected it. I asked the waiter to bring it back in a bag. My Cocker Spaniel had it the next day.

An excellent Festive meal for four, warm and welcoming seasonal surroundings, helpful , attentive staff, thanks to Janine for her help. Good, value, good food, good size portions, recommended, will be back !!!!

This pub has improved greatly. The staff are now friendly and helpful and the food was delicious. Tommy served us (a group of u3a pensioners) and he was kind, caring and efficient.

Popped in for a drink - no one to greet so went to bar to ask if we could grab a table - no was the answer we have to sign u in - didn't sign in we're directed to table - went to order drink at the bar - no one there but still had to wait - drinks were bought over & we were told take them please ?? Tbh she had touched all the glasses whilst fulfilling the order came over without a mask - don't really see how hard it would be to be polite - took the drinks she walks away - it all seems such a hardship - I understand there maybe a staffing issue but we all have them - & then behind the bar telling staff how exhausted she was - aren't we all ? & i don't talk to my customers like that - used the cock inn a lot & was first pub we went to after lockdown - not anymore - thankyou but goodbye xxx

Always great atmosphere in their large outdoor space. Suitable for all and children’s area at the back of the garden is far enough away to enjoy the quiet, if that’s what you like.Great to be able to use the app for drinks and food and table service delivery was quick.

Visited on a weekday evening, eight adults and four children. We’d booked in advance so they knew we were coming. We sat outside and ordered via the app/online menu.We ordered food just after 7pm, which arrived around 8pm in dribs and drabs, with no priority given to the children’s food, some of which arrived last. There was such a delay in some meals arriving that the first to receive theirs had finished before the last ones arrived.Made the mistake of ordering another round of drinks about 8.45pm, which again took over an hour to arrive. Went into cancel the order to be told that they’d just done them, yet they didn’t arrive for another five minutes. It was nothing complicated, two pints and four soft drinks.Food was average at best, nothing special and stringy portions of chips. It wasn’t helped by the fact that the man serving us appeared to have dropped most of it down his shirt throughout the evening.Overall a very poor experience, really poor service and not one I’d be rushing to repeat, which is a shame because although I’ve not been to the Cock Inn for years, I remember it being a good pub.

Pleasantly surprised by this pub. The food is pub grub but a fantastic selection from pizza to fajitas to pie & mash. The portions are a good size and reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and attentive. They have a large garden with lots of outside seating. Not fine dining but good value decent food. Will definitely visit again

I’ve eaten here previously and really enjoyed the food however didn’t have a very good experience on this occasion, I like to give leeway to companies because of the lockdown however we waited almost an hour for 2 sides and when we brought it to the staffs attention we were told that we should have been advised of a wait when we came in however people who arrived after us received their meals and after we enquired the food came straight away so I personally feel that they forgot. When the food came the portion of chips were just silly, for £2.50 I would expect more than 10 in a bowl and since they knew we were ordering to share for 2 could have made us aware that it would be a child’s portion.

Waited over an hr for our food and drinks , didnt seem to have own-waiting staff looking after their tables it was who ever walked passed and noticed you needed anything , when you did catch their attention you were told they would be back in a minute but they never did , have visited this restaurant so many times but won’t be coming back in a hurry !!

Popped in for a quick bite to eat with my daughter and was told there’s a 40 minute wait for food .... so it wasn’t gonna be a quick bite after all. That being said, I accepted a ‘40 minute wait’ so couldn’t complain about that, however after 50 mins with no food in site I asked one of the employees to check on the food which she went off to do reluctantly! I was told another 10-15 mins which was ridiculous as the place was less than half full by then. Food eventually arrived after a wait of 1hr20 mins, so 40 mins late and was average at best, not even piping hot. Extremely disappointed, especially after giving them a second chance on the back of time delays and a really poor roast dinner the prior Sunday. I appreciate we’re in the middle of a pandemic and have never left a poor review before but I wouldn’t want other families to experience the same as we did.

Popped in here as we were passing realized lock down restrictions had been relaxed.Firstly fantastic to be back inside a pub again and hearing people socializing. Went for the 2 meals for £11.49 deal what a bargain this is i had liver my wife had the lasagne. All cooked lovely and good portion sizes.Staff were excellent really good table service this place has a really nice atmosphere. Good range of beers and gin i would definitely recommend this place.

I ordered for click and collect.One meal was ok,the other was a burger which was completely rotten.I have never in my life smelt a cooked burger that smells like rotten mince,i smelt it while taking a bite and it tasted as rotten as it smelt! Straight in the bin! Not only absolutely vile but dangerous too!!

The Cock inn has always been good as in relaxed atmosphere ,not harassed to finish your meal and get out.Its friendly and great value for money.The food has always been good but seems even better now.Just last Sunday we went for a roast.Lovely as always there were a few problems involving the kids meal.I have to say that Sue was a superstar and sorted everything out with a friendly professional service and a caring attitude.She was fabulous so many many thanks to her .She made our day. She is a brilliant asset to The Cock Inn and hope that she is at least told that we thought she was fab ! Much love x

Lovely evening, family meal, good menu choice, lovely food, excellent service by Sue. Pub very busy but Sue and colleagues weren't too busy to be friendly and attentive. Will be sure to return.

Visited Sunday afternoon around 1pm. Good COVID measures in place, one way system, track & trace, bottles of sanitizer throughout, signs on clean tables and ppe worn by all staff. Chose waitress service over using the app. Menu was good with plenty of choice. Asked the waitress how big the pizzas were. She replied ‘the size of a round plate’ which was not helpful. She then took our order, went off and came back a minute later to check exactly what it was we wanted. Seemed very unsure. Food arrived 40 minutes later. Scampi and chips with mushy peas was only just warm, sent it back and 10 minutes later a hot meal came out. By this time my husband had almost finished his meal, steak and chips ordered medium which was more like well done! Wouldn’t choose to return.

I had a family lunch yesterday at the Cock Inn. We had a very friendly welcome, with clear instructions given about the Covid rules. I was very impressed with how the pub has implemented these changes at such a difficult time for them. The food was good and excellent value for money.

I came here for a family meal with some of my family and was welcomed with a warm welcome. All waiters/ waitresses were so polite. Food was incredible and would totally recommend this place to anyone I come across. So pleased with the experience.

We visited the Cock inn on a Saturday lunchtime. First time here for a while. Good covid restrictions - one way system in place, hand sanitizer dotted around.We ordered via the app. The first thing we noticed was that the menu had dramatically reduced. There were no sandwiches or lite bites which i prefer to eat at lunchtime. Both the drinks and food were served quickly.My husband had the all day breakfast which he really didn’t enjoy. The sausages and bacon tasted as though they had been deep fried and the beans were really quite runny.I had the chicken fajita which was nice although the wraps were hard and crispy in places.It is a nice, friendly pub and because of that, we will definitely come back. Hopefully next time, the menu will have more choices.

We visit here often and have always had lovely food, friendly service and value for money. There is always a friendly face either behind the bar or serving at the tables. For the cost of the meals and drinks, it’s well worth a visit

Visited today, 2nd day of eat out and help out. Waited over an hour for meal. Three of the meals were incomplete, no bread and butter, sauces etc. The other overcooked and dry as if kept hot for awhile. All were a lot smaller than usual. Staff very over worked and too busy to help. Not all customers were prebooked, lots of walk ins, which led to over crowding. Will not be going back.

When a cup of tea was served not hot and therefore left, they really did not want to give a new hot cup of tea as a replacement because we reported to them while making our second order and not closer to the time it was served. As a local and returning customer I have spent a lot of money here, but the cost of a cup of tea was too much for them to waive without them being abrupt and abrasive. I will feel uncomfortable on my next visit as the staff are unoccupied most of the time. My kids love it here because of the garden.

We called in just to have a drink as this was our first pub visit after a very long lockdown. We were greeted by a lovely friendly young lady who put us at our ease, she could clearly tell we were a bit nervous. After helping us with our track and trace she showed us to a very nice table and we decided to stay for lunch. We Would have no hesitation on a return visit, we felt safe and very well looked after. Well done to all the staff and management for all your hard wok.

Me and my boyfriend visited the cock inn after a long time in lockdown and our first visit out to a pub. I was a little nervous as to what to expect and how different our pub visits would be after all the safety measures in now in place from the Coronavirus. I expected the friendly atmosphere to be gone but was very surprised how relaxed the atmosphere was and helpful and friendly the staff were. They really were helpful, friendly and happy to explain the new processes in place which were not too restricted. Will definetly be returning to the cock inn.

Popped in for lunch with my wife for our first visit. A not too busy Tuesday. Sat in the corner in armchairs. Ordered a vegan tart - beetroot and butternut squash. This came with peas, carrots, sprouts and just a tad too many boiled spuds. Enjoyed the tart. Also had 2 teas. Good value and good service. Will return for the Calves liver

We visit this pub quite frequently and have taken many friends there, it is always good food, typical Pub grub and good for the price. It can get busy, so I always book.

Went here for the first time in ages for a late birthday meal. Firstly the food, My scampi and chips were ok but nothing special except the mushy peas which my husband tried and declared bland. His lamb was good but the mash was from a packet and the veg ok. My son's burger tasted really odd - had some sort of coating on. Service - the starter arrived at the same time as the main course. Atmosphere - busy. We were seated upstairs next to 2 men with very small children who were very well behaved. Then a large party arrived. Kids running wild and parents not caring - climbing on tables, nearly knocked my husband's drink over, screaming. Also a very large woman who thought nothing of shoving her large bottom in our faces while we were eating. We didn't stay for desert. I appreciate it is a family venue but if you cannot control your kids they should stay at home not ruin things for others.

The Sunday dinners here are good with crispy roast potatoes, we go here most sundays. The topside beef roast is good.

Another very pleasant experience at The Cock Inn. Good food, great value, good service. Mid afternoon meal 2 burgers: beef and chicken. Lasagne, chicken live and chicken pie. All good meals promptly served. We indulged in some delicious sweets too, sundaes and apple pie. All good.

I’ve been here a few times now, and often opt to sit upstairs, out of the way. On a Sunday, the pub is always busy and of an evening, it’s a great place to go and have a relaxed dinner.Food is always served in good time and the portion sizes are decent. It’s already somewhere I enjoy going to regularly.

My first visit to this place, but families second. They had enjoyed their first trip, hence the return. We had booked a table for 7 people for 4.30pm. We arrived at 4, and did expect to wait. When got to bar the lady behind the bar was busy informing 2 other people that "You have to have a table number to order", very abruptly. She then looked at us and "You booked?". Informed her we had but were early. "I'll be back". I have to say, first impressions of the place, lovely, staff no way. On return we were told we could go upstairs and which table. My sister in law and mother went to order food at the bar, and when they asked if they could have a certain pizza without bacon, the answer was an abrupt No. Didn't check, didn't seem to care. It actually was like she just couldn't be bothered to tap a few words onto the computer. Really bad attitude for customer service. We ordered and when food arrived, which was ok, we asked the waitress about the pizza and bacon. She checked came back and said yes it could be done, did we want to change the food? No thanks. I do know the name of the Bar Staff member but don't want to put here. The rest of the staff were lovely and helpful and if it wasn't for them I really wouldn't think about coming back. It wasn't about inexperience, it just seemed to be their whole attitude. Why work in the customer service industry if you don't want to be there? If you want repeat business then make sure staff now how to deal with customers. Overall nice place and majority of staff nice.

Totally recommend this place, lovely food, with a great menu, lovely staff, always made to feel welcome.

This is a Greene King pub and therefore the menu is exactly the same as any other Greene King pub but it is still a good and varied menu. I especially like the 2 meals for £10.99 during the week that includes Liver, Bacon and Onions. An excellent choice is these cold winter days.
