Cobble Bar & Bistro in Scarborough

What was Cobble Bar and Bistro is now called the Bay View Restaurant, which is why it is reported as being permanently closed. This has been our choice of eating places in Filey for a number of years, and we were happy to find the name is the only thing that has changed. It was a bit breezy to sit on the terrace, but it is bright and light inside, and you can still enjoy the view. There is a wide choice of food, with substantial portions, with efficient and friendly service, at sensible prices.

Tacky decor. Dirty. No suitable milk for lactose intolerance. Plastic cups instead of glasses. Booming music. Not for me.

Great place to get out the cold after a walk on the beach! Great views of the beach/sea and a lovely balcony area, BUT only plastic glasses on the balcony due to people dropping them off!!

Great place to eat. Staff are lovely and so is the food. Nothing was too much trouble and it's dog friendly. Would highly recommend.

lovely little place overlooking the beach. However in my families opinion the menu let's it down. We went for lunch & a coffee the menu seems more suited to an evening meal affair & the prices match that. No jacket potatos/paninis/toasties/breakfasts /tea cakes etc. Which is such a shame & probably why the place was empty with only approx 2 tables where people were eating. Yes this is named a 'bistro' However its surroundings suggest a more relaxed menu would be more suitable. We walked up to the town & had lunch at a cafe with a more suitable menu & prices **in response to the Bistros reply** We asked a member of staff if that was the only menu as we just wanted a lite bite like a panini & the answer was a yes sorry! We did briefly look downstairs but it looked more like a bar than an eatery. We had our 12 year old with us so sought out a cafe. Sent from Outlook for Android

My wife, our son, his girlfriend and our dog were visiting Filey on a day trip whilst staying in Whitby and hunted high and low for somewhere dog friendly and found The Cobble. Upon entering we were greeted by very friendly staff, who set the tone for our visit. The service remained friendly and very prompt too and the food was excellent and of decent size. My scampi was very tasty and of decent portion size with a nice helping of chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce. My wife had the chicken burger and my son and his girlfriend the burgers, of which they all commented were delicious. All were well presented too. Next time we are in Filey I will have no hesitation in returning and I cannot recommend The Cobble highly enough.

Well we came here a few years ago it was great. Then looked at reviews & gave it a miss for a couple of years. Recent reviews looked promising so we took the plunge. Absolutely delighted that we did. On our first visit the guy running service was unbelievable nothing a trouble to him. I hope you get the credit you deserve because if I was going into this business I would headhunt you in an heartbeat (I’m not unfortunately Because we enjoyed our first trip back we returned on an early Saturday evening. Again spot on would absolutely recommend

I spent a long time trying to find somewhere for an evening meal for 8 people and 4 dogs. So many places in Filey either don't allow dogs inside or don't allow booking! I found this place and Google says they close at half 5 every day, but I noticed a few reviews that mentioned 'evening meal' so I called them and they said they were open until half 7, and took dogs and I was able to book. The 2nd floor restaurant is really nice. Amazing views through the window (and some outside tables as well) I had the beef burger which was nice. Big size and juicy in a really nice bun. Loads of thick fluffy well cooked chips. My wife had the fish and chips which was ok but nothing special. Others had lasagne (very good), spaghetti Bolognese (very good and a giant portion), pizza (very good) The service was very nice. Overall everyone enjoyed their food and I would recommend this place.

Great pizza and fish and chips on the 2nd floor restaurant. The location is amazing with views across the bay into the distance. The staff are really pleasant.

Been twice lately. Food delicious. Prices decent— despite a stunning view. Kind staff, who check on you without being “too much”. Staff seemed happy to check food ingredients for an allergy. Previously chef made a generous adjustment for a preference. Facility overshadowed by amazing views of the whole of Filey Bay from the Brigg down to Flamborough Head, especially from a balcony seat. Clean toilets! There is a large flight of stairs going to first floor restaurant level. There also seems to be a bar up half a flight of stairs but loud music so we did not linger there at all. (The loud music almost put me off, tbh, but glad I could manage the stairs.) Check closing time as varies with the season. I rang earlier in the day to verify; a staff member helpfully answered the phone call versus getting voicemail/answerphone! :)

We visited this bar several times during our weeks stay in Filey as we absolutely loved it. The view from the second floor balcony was stunning, the service was friendly and there was a good choice of beers. The lasagna we had was definitely homemade and absolutely delicious and the cheesy chips were also very good. I would highly recommend a visit to this lovely bar.

Excellent service and really good fish and chips. The fish was cooked well and the batter crunchy not greasy. The chips were delightfully tasty. All with a panoramic view of the bay from the balcony. Highly recommended.

We’ve visited Cobble for several years on our annual visit to Filey. It’s a lovely, airy room, with a terrace if you want to sit outside. We’re always happy with the food, and the pleasant staff. It’s great value for money, and the views is second to none.

Great Restaurant on the front at Filey, Over looking the beach and sea. Very friendly and attentive staff. Belting food. The fish and chips where very tasty and the wifes Lasagne was really tasty too. Good value for money. Will definitely be going again.👍👍

Tried to boom a table of 5. The waitress I asked for a menu checked her watch before giving it to me. When I asi ked if I could book a table of 5 for the following night the waitress shouted to someone who I assumed was in charge but she might just have been the one who is happy to put customers who think they can just turn up and book a table straight. No. She said, 7.30 is too late. Then she turned her back to get on with much more important conversations than having one with a ' customer'. So we left to everyone's relief.

7 of us had a meal and a drink totaling only £85 the food was superb well presented and arrived in good time A welcoming feel with friendly staff I highly recommend and will most definitely visit again .

With almost certainly one of the best views from any restaurant for miles and miles, this place has the staff, food quality and reasonable pricing to match. I’ve been coming here for ages (as a local) and have seen it change over the years but the current team really are awesome. Whether it’s a morning brew, a family meal or sundown beers with friends, this place caters for it all and does it well. It has a lovely inclusive family atmosphere and the staff really are the friendliest around. The pizzas are restaurant quality for takeaway prices and the selection is really good. The starters are lovely too (though I must admit I’ve only ever ordered them once because the pizzas are so filling). All-in-all this is a no brained for a really good pizza in an outstanding location. I’d 100% recommend this place to absolutely anyone. One of the best filey has to offer. Love it.

We visited yesterday and is a return visit which I recommend to my sister whom we were meeting, as I said to them "this is the best fish & chips ever " which yet again it was. Great food and made to feel very welcome even catered for my dog Rudi ! 5☆ review from me and my extended family

Our very first visit, Sister booked a table for us both, we had a lovely view of the sea. We where seated and we looked at the menu, we ordered garlic bread with tomatoes, to share for the starter. I had j20 and she had beer. For our mains she had lasagna, I had bologna. The portion of bolognase was quite big, and lasagna was also a good size. The staff was very polite, while we was eating, a lady came over to ask if we needed anything, so I ordered another j20 . Food was nice atmosphere was good, would visit again.

Wanted somewhere to eat inside as we had two children and wanted to get out of the sun and breeze. When we sat down we expected the food to be just okay as it's quite modest and simple inside. Anyway pleasantly surprised. The food was good. I asked for all the food at the same time so starters and mains as we were in a rush. All good. Really helpful staff and manager that helped us down the stairs with the double buggy. Just wish it would have been more cloudy so we could have sat on the terrace as the views are great. Definitely going back next time we are in Filey.

Extremely disappointed we were all looking forward to our meal here. I rang up earlier in the day to book a table giving my details and the lady had great customer service so we were completely unaware of the disappointment to come. We arrived at around 6:25 (table booked for 6:30) and went to go up, but the doors were locked. The lady who owns the bar and grill bellow said they had left and locked up a few hours previous with no reasoning. We completely understand that there may have been an issue but the staff could have had the decency to call us and say that the table would no longer be available. As stated above we had left details as conditions of the booking so there is no reason for the lack of communication. We eneded up eating in the bar and grill below which was absolutely lovely!

Just had lovely lunch at Cobble Bar. Under new management since I last went. Food was lovely and portions a good size, reasonably priced and Natasha and her team very pleasant and accommodating. Will definitely be back 👍

Came here with two adults, two kids. Ordered four starters and four mains and one side. Everything turned up at once. Paid up front. Us: "I'm sorry, but we wanted the starters before the mains." Them: "I'm sorry. That's just how we do it here". Us: "Why? What are we supposed to do with the mains while we eat the starters? Shall we just line them up on the window sill getting cold?" Them: "I suppose so". Salt and pepper starters were rubbish. Pizza was far too cheesy and greasy. Penne pasta was terrible. Chips were fine. Scampi looked okay. Wouldn't come again even if they sorted the ridiculous starter policy.

Very welcoming gentleman at the bar allowed us to chose our own table. We wanted to be near the windows as you are 3 flights up so great panoramic views. Food arrived promptly and was delicious. Fish dishes all round. Very generous portions nicely presented. No room for puds! There is a small balcony but as it was a soggy evening we didn’t venture out onto as looked slippery. The waiter opened up the bi-folding window as all diners were amazed by a double rainbow 🌈 Great atmosphere reasonably priced. Recommend. Would return again.

Food average. You pay up front and there is a reason why. Service poor. Food and starters arrived at once. When challenged responses were - ‘it’s how it done here’, then, ‘I didn’t have time to tell the chef they should be served separately. In what world do you have to tell a chef starters and mains are served separately. Piss poor experience.

They take your money up front, and there is a reason why. Upon arrival we were pointed to our table and told to order at the bar, which is absolutely fine. We chose starters and mains and went to the bar to order. Initially service was good, until a second server came across and started scolding the initial server about how she input our entry. Kids drinks came quickly. Server took about 15 mins to successfully pour a pint of Cafferys and bring a glass of wine to the table. We were then told that the pizzas that we ordered were unavailable, and to come to the bar for a refund. Then another heated moment between servers when one was instructed to get boss and wasn’t sure what the other meant. When ‘boss’ turned up there were pizza bases available. Food arrived quickly, but all at once, starters and mains together. When we challenged it, the response was ‘That’s how it happens here’. We literally had our mains on a windowsill as there was no room in the table. Literally the most bizarre experience. Guests on the next table commented that the exact same thing had happened to themselves. Food wise, it’s nothing more than deep fried and microwaved. Edible but nothing special. Upon asking whether we had a good experience again challenged that having started and mains served together was poor and was told that they were sorry but they couldn’t get away from the bar to tell the chef. Not sure in what world you have to tell the chef that starters and mains are expected separately. All in all a piss poor experience.

Lovely welcoming staff offered a bowl of water for my dog. Only young girls serving but really friendly and helpful. Quick service, Lovely fresh pizzas and fish and chips. Just a little niggle children’s meals are expensive £7.95 for spaghetti bolognaise and you do not get a piece of garlic bread with it. However was a big portion of bolognaise good for older kids 😀

We had wonderful lunches on two occasions at this beautifully positioned place. Fish and Chips for my wife and Scampi and Chips for me the first visit. Both cooked superbly. We returned later in the week. Clare had Pasta Alfredo and I had Pan-fried Chicken. Again both highly enjoyable. 4 given for atmosphere because we went early to get a balcony table.

Very basic place, bar staff seemed like it was a bit of a hassle to take our order. Selection of deep fried cheap food that was fine but nothing special. Prices ok.

Food is exceptional with a view to match, so don't let the style of the Bistro put you off. It's well worth giving them a chance because the food is beautiful

Looking for somewhere to eat in Filey on a Sunday evening we stumbled across Cobble Bar and Bistro. Staff were great, very friendly, food was lovely and nothing was too much bother. Will definitely visit again.

My fiancé and I are regular visitors to Filey, but we have never eaten here, (we usually end up having waffles and ice cream) we decided today to get something a little more healthy. Well we weren’t disappointed with our meal, a lovely sirloin steak, cooked to perfection, with proper chunky chips and a crisp salad. It was all delivered to our table in a timely fashion by a very friendly waitress. We will definitely be eating here again if this is the offering.

The food came quicky, generous portions, tasty and fresh. Highly recommend the steak and garlic prawns! From reading previous reviews, it appears this business has resolved its issues so go give them a try, I bet you won't be disappointed!

Was not impressed very poor. Went in for a drink on a Friday afternoon just about every draft was off line as they had none left aparantly, What they had left to sell for a Friday night very worrying. Sat outside on balcony tables/chairs were dirty and poor quality, very few customers in also just no astmosphere. Toilets were dirty and uncared for,holes in walls ect,sink dirty and hand dryer did not work.

The food was excellent, but we weren't made to feel welcome. The restaurant was very quiet when we walked in, but the staff were just stood around and just starred at us. Nobody greeted us, so we didn't know whether we just sat down or we needed to order at the bar, so it just felt really awkward. The staff giggled the whole time we were there, and it made us feel a bit uncomfortable, because we didn't know whether they were laughing at us. The food was very nice, but we wouldn't go back due to how the staff were.
