Food average,Tapas:- prawns over cooked and like rubber, small portions and swimming in cream. Squid, delicious . Scampi was nothing to shout about, good size pieces but again came with a pre packed portion of Tatar sauce, so quite disappointed , curry over spiced with no particular flavour, drinks very pricey, no doubles offer ( even during happy hour 😂). Meal cost without drinks £40 for two people. 3 drinks £19, Staff very pleasant, overall not impressed 🤷🏽‍♀️

We are a group of friends who have just spent the last four evenings in the tow bar .We were made most welcome by the Manager and staff .We really enjoyed the food and the beer 🍺. Thanks for the great welcome, we hope you enjoy the sweets. We will be back soon.

Great service, lovely warm food and great value for money! Homemade chips were very good! I would definitely recommend here and will make sure to come again.

We went for a Sunday dinner, I think we just went at the wrong time really. Some of the food was cold, staff were nice and cheerful but the most uncomfortable feeling was the glares from the locals. Not a nice environment for incoming customers.

Ace weekend away, popped into pub Friday night had quiz and fun games, staff brilliant, I was slightly drunk, couldn't remember our order of drinks between friends and family, staff smashed it and got it bang on, food on Sunday was excellent 👍🏼

We stopped in the caravan park across the road which was very handy for 3 nights. And visited the Tow Bar every day and night The atmosphere was brilliant as were the staff We had food on the first day which was very good and on Sunday we had the carvery. We had a selection of 4 meats which was great, but the Yorkshire puddings were hard and the cauliflower was under cooked The place was quiet busy and has a good selection of beers and also has a lot of tv's with various sport on. The beer garden is great and dog friendly Would recommend this pub

Had a chicken burger which was encased in a burger I had never tasted or seen the like of, part defrosted, with an odd griddled pattern baked in to its stale husk. Biting in to it a spurt of grease fired on to my arm and very nearly scalded it. The wasps were being outdone by the large amount of flies.

Fantastic food, can tell the chef actually cares. Had the burger with blue cheese, and they don't shirk on the quantity, something chain restaurants could learn from. Chips were great too, Gammon looked really good. Guinness was flowing and only stopped due to a train to a catch. Would definitely recommend a bit of food and few drinks to pass the time in a beautiful location.

Called in for a cheeky pint after a 4.5mile walk along the cliffs. Good selection of hand pulled ales along with a varied choice of keg beers and lagers. Enjoyed sitting in the beer garden too.

Shocking food cold pizza tasteless curry. Don’t know what’s happened from last year because it was bang on then. It’s a shame

This pub was recommended to us at the beginning of our holiday at Cayton Bay Holiday Park, but we decided to leave it until this evening to visit as we are going home tomorrow. This pub is literally across the road, and on some evenings, you can hear the outside live entertainment. I had read the previous reviews and felt it was a bit of a hit or miss. I didn't allow it to put me off and felt I needed to visit and judge for myself. I am SO GLAD I DID. The Tow Bar was extremely busy, which tells me instantly how good it must be. The pub was warm, welcoming and the staff friendly. We managed to find an available table, which was next to the disabled toilet, which I did not see beforehand, or I wouldn't have chosen to sit there. The menu has a limited selection, but there is lots to choose from, if you get what I mean. The prices are, on average, a bit more than what I would spend, but on receiving our meals, it was more than plentiful. I did choose to have extras such as the gorgeous homemade onion rings and coleslaw. The queue was long (people were served quickly) when ordering our meals and drinks, and I was surprised as to how quickly our food was delivered to us. Our meals were beautiful, and we were incredibly impressed with it all, including the service from the bar staff and the young man who delivered our meals. There is an outdoor hut called called 'The Hitch' that offers waffles, ice cream, and milkshakes. I did see a member of staff go out of her way to accommodate a little boys request of a milkshake because it had closed, which I thought was so kind of her. This is a lovely and lively, friendly family pub and I would highly reccomended you to visit. I have attached photographs of the menu because it was something I couldn't find on the reviews, which I would have liked to have seen beforehand 😊

Very expensive for what you got, Chips half the portion was scraps , quick service. If we went again, it would be just for a drink may go to see Danny wild if we are out there

Stayed at Clayton Bay and visited the tow bar everyday for lunch. Food was lovely tried most on menu. Gammon steak was very tasty lovely chips too. Would highly recommend

Great 👍 Pub 🍻. Just fancied some Scampi and Chips. Not eaten any for Years now. The Spuds were excellent 👌. You can tell that they have used a good quality Spud for the Chips. Scampi was delicious 😋. Other half had a Burger 🍔 and Chips and he enjoyed his meal. Drinks also went down well. And it's Dog friendly in the Areas that Dogs are allowed in. Staff were brilliant. Had a Laugh 😂 hearing lads in kitchen cooking. Which was funny for us. We love a good laugh. And our little Dog Archie enjoyed his free Biscuit from the Bar 🍻. One young lad said if there's anything you need just ask. Well I need a diploma to open them sachets of Tartar Sauces with 😂😂😂. Would highly recommend this Pub for Grub....

Stopped off after walking up from Cayton Bay Beach. The beer garden was lovely and there was lots of bowls about so the dog could get drink as well.

Lovely grub! Ordered between 8 of us a selection off the menu, including burger / BBQ ribs, halloumi fries, pasta, sausages, onion rings and much more! The food was cooked to perfection, chips are beautiful! the service was 5 star, very quick and polite. We will definitely be returning and recommend!

A reasonable bar. If you have a pet, there are not enough seats inside on inclement weather days. The food was good, and it took an age to arrive, which was its downside. Kids play area and seats tables outside.

Burnt buger and scraps for chips, told home made that's how they come, not good at all

One of the worst meals I've been presented with in ages. Chips greasy, burger burnt, cheese also cremated. Never again.

Pretty good, had special board beef curry it was pretty nice big bits of beef, nice mango chutney, just let down by oily popadom, kids had pizza and it was ok

Blocking people for asking a question/making a respectful comment on prices is no way to win customers ! Additionally advertising a Carvery until 5pm yet pulling it at 3pm is ridiculous regardless of if bad planning causes you to run out? Once you start losing people's respect you'll start losing customers. My friend Adrianna commented on prices on Facebook after visiting and asked if it was a free house or part of a pub company and was immediately blocked from The Tow Bar page - comment removed. Not acceptable behaviour

Shocking food, I asked the barman if they could cater for a vegan and he laughed and said "oh your one of those I used to work in a slaughterhouse " my son was ill later on that night after eating his undercooked food. Do not go

Great pub, reasonable prices, live outdoor music, perfect apart from rude, too young staff who are more interested in their phones or only serving customers they know. Queueing obviously isn't a thing. Shame. It'll cause arguments as the summer progresses

Went for meal yesterday after 7hours of driving. Ordered a burger which arrived burnt together with a very small sorry looking salad. I asked for a replacement which arrived no better at all with no apology at all. I ate what I could as I was very hungry but will certainly not return

Did not eat here so cannot comment on food though plenty of empty plates around us, they had a good selection of beers for a price you'd expect to be paying in the area, staff seemed pleasant enough, sports tvs, it is a okay place we went a couple of times mainly for the beer, atmosphere was good to.

Popped in with my Wife and Mother. Beautiful sunny day. Sat in the beer garden - spotlessly clean and well manage, excellent food and service, highly recommended, The Carsons.

This pub is the place to be if you need a relaxing and welcoming day and night out.The large beer garden with play area,and dogs welcome in and out.Excellent carvery on a Sunday to die for,value for money,cheapest place found.Great nights on ,games ,bingo,singers.Lovely welcome and staff happy and helpful,would go again.Icecream available outside and 8.30 till 11.00 breakfast is served.Large tv if want to watch sports.A lovely place to go to.

Had a fab night Friday friendly atmosphere seaside Danny Wilde great as usual and a lovely chicken and ham pie with new potatoes and veg the sauce in the pie was gorgeous have to be in early for a seat well worth it

Great dog friendly pub , with great outdoor seating , and a dog area inside . Prices were relatively ok, and menu looked interesting. One minor niggle is the “Handmade Pizzas”( using a fired pizza oven ). The pizza ordered arrived in a badly presented way - the maker obviously was in a rush , and pizza was not circular as one would expect , but some strange non-uniform creation ( thus leaving lots of pizza dough uncovered by sauce and topping ), and aesthetically displeasing . Tasted great , but price did not justify the toppings. Apart from that , everything else was fine .

We stayed in the area over Easter and visited the Towbar every night for a drink. The selection of beers and lagers is good. We stayed for food on a couple of nights and it was all very nice and up to the same high standards as last year. Part of the pub is dog friendly which is good for us. Everyone including the locals are really friendly and there’s a good atmosphere. The highlight was seeing the Elvis tribute act on the Saturday night who was a great entertainer and what he lacked in looks he more than made for in enthusiasm. We will certainly be calling in when we are next in the area - hopefully pretty soon.

What a fantastic venue for a spot of light lunch. Fantastic service, choice of food and drinks complimented by a really friendly atmosphere. To call this a pub is an understatement. Perhaps it would be more accurate to call it a "gormet restaurant". Congratulations to Browns for their wonderful achievement.

1st evening we had to sit in conservatory. It was cold, especially with people going in and out. 2nd afternoon, Black Sheep pint served was off! Drank Theakstons Bitter instead. No meals served on the Sunday evening.

Nice place with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Food was great. A little on the cold side at times but overall a nice experience and would definitely go back. Food is freshly cooked, no frozen rubbish. Just what you need on a fresh February Day 🥰

Absolutely lush breakfast. I’m not sure ‘small’ is a correct description of this breakfast haha! Even made little plates for the kids. Great that you can have a pint while the kids play in the park. Plus areas for the dog too 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Guinness steak and ale pie washed down with a couple pints of theakstones best ale, stunning. Lovely inside and out.

I had the "Tapas"(Yorkshire pudding with 3 bean chilli,deep fried mushroom dippers and cheesy nachos) with a portion of chips. The chilli was a tin of beans in a chilli sauce with a sliced up pickled gherkin added!! The yorkshire pudding was cold and heavy The mushrooms were fine,there is not much you can do wrong to a frozen breaded mushroom oh except not give you any dip. The nachos were burnt but cold with a little bit of cheese on the top. Some of the chips were edible but the rest were the sharp ,scratchy tiny bits that are left after you have made chips. In total I managed to eat 7 chips,some mushrooms and the cold yorks pudding.The rest I had to leave,it was revolting.Partner had an all day brunch which was ok except both the eggs were hard and cold. Woman next to me had to send her fish and chips back as they were stone cold.

Friendly staff, beer good and reasonably priced. Food far below average. The tapas were very poor value for money, the small mushrooms were £1 each! We don't understand other reviews that talked about the best pie ever... They must have been visiting a different place to this Some meals being carried past us looked much better than others.

Went for my sister's birthday meal. Ordered 2 mixed grills and a beef in Guinness pie. Where do I start? The waitress apologized as she served the food up and asked if my sister would like another pie top doing as it was burnt and black. My sister said no as she thought she could remove the burnt layer. The mashed potato was cold on the inside and the carrots, peas and diced swede were also cold. The only hot thing on the plate was the meat in the hot gravy. How can you burn a crust top and it be cold? The mixed grill meats were lukewarm but the chips were cold and very bitty. The peas were cold the eggs were overcooked, crispy and cold I took my egg to the bar in a napkin and asked for another one as it was like a rubber frisby. The steak was ordered as medium cooked but came out as a rare. Not good at all. Had the waitress come back after serving us to ask if the food was ok we would have told her to take the meals back but she only came back to clear the table. When asked if everything was ok we told her no & exactly what was wrong & she said "ok i'll tell them". The couple next to us had pizza and scampi meals but only ate the scampi and some of the pizza and said it was all cold. They left and we told the waitress why they'd left their food. The pub was very busy and meals were busy also so there really wasn't any reason for cold food to leave that kitchen. I've given 1 star for the drinks but you can't really mess up a white wine and 2 blackcurrant and lemonades. We always have desserts when having a celebratory meal but not this time. After viewing the reviews before visiting and seeing how good the pub is supposed to be we were very disappointed and will certainly not return. After a lovely day of birthday celebrations this was a very disappointing end to an otherwise perfect day.

Had 2 pizza one peperone and one margereta was a bit surprised at shape looked like a child had done it. Load of crust not much cheese or peperone was ok but would not order again. Staff did ask if it was ok just said yes another review had same thing about month ago so nothing has changed even though manager said he would speak to chef. Seams to put same reply to all negertive feedback. Fish and chips looked fab o on next table may try something differant next time.

Lovely pub to visit . Staff very nice and friendly. We were staying at the Caravan and Motorhome club site just down the road. Food was well cooked and lovely, good value. Would recommend to anyone staying near by.

Great place for a friendly atmosphere and great food. They have a play area outside for the kids and dogs are welcome outside with water bowls placed around some tables. They have a bingo and quiz night. Definitely a place to visit
