Mister Chips in Scarborough

I had haddock and chips with mushy peas. It was delicious! The service was great. It was quiet when I was there, so not much atmosphere. But it was very clean and the staff were very nice.

One of the better fish and chips outlets that has an eat in facility but not the ridiculous prices of better known outlets and it suits me well being open till later than the other outlets. As you would expect, fish is always fresh , have found the standard of cooking to vary though.

Wow! And dog friendly too 👍. Definitely has changed my direction of fish shops/restaurants coming here today with a couple who have also changed from their regular. No photos but I can guarantee that our choice of food today was 100%. Hot, plentiful, tasty and well worth the price. Can't wait to go back to experience another choice from their enticing menu 😋 xx

Lovely little restaurant. Good portion sizes. Delicious food. Staff were all very friendly. Dog friendly too, so our labrador got to sit inside too. Will definitely be back next time we are in Whitby

Fab! Visited this restaurant that kindly accommodated 6 adults and 2 dogs as a walk in, the premises is immaculate, the menu is fantastic, lots of options, and the serving staff were wonderfully warm and welcoming. The fish and chips were spectacular, large portions! This is a gem of a restaurant and we will definitely visit the next time we are in Whitby xx

Takeaway Fish and chips twice and one curry sauce was £24.70 which is expensive. The fish were tiny thin overcooked just bigger than a fish finger and the chips were hard and bitty. The curry sauce came in the smallest carton I’ve ever seen. We were so disappointed and will never go again.

Absolutely terrible. Staff ignored us. Waited for ages for service only to be ignored. Disgusting! When asked about making an order, response from staff was rude. Never again! Spoilt our day out!

Great. After trying this fish restaurant a couple of years ago when visiting Whitby. We now head for this on every visit. The food is great and tasty. The place and dining area is clean and inviting. Totally reccomend it to anyone who wants this type of food.

I’ve been here before and really enjoyed the fish and chips, today however was a different story…. A previous reviewer stated that what the received was a ‘scrappy piece of inedible fish in a thick batter coating masking the size and quality of the food ‘, and that’s exactly what I got. After complaining, I was given another, which was exactly the same so I ended up leaving it. We would never go back again!

I believe they’ve lived on the reparation that Whitby F&C’s are the best. These were greasy and expensive. Also served to you by two career girls hoping to work in Aldi one day. Good products can be ruined by bad cooks. Front counter staff, smile and be polite, otherwise go and do a job that you at least enjoy and get some purpose from…,

Waited over 15 minutes for cod n chips twice, fish was just threw in the box so was all broken up.. looked like it had been shook up... and for the shocking price we paid we would of expected chips with a bit of taste... Will definitely give this a miss, and leave it to the tasteless Jeremy Clarkson.. 🤮👎

Excellent restaurant - we had the lobster and it was absolutely superb and great value. This chef clearly knows what they are doing and was very sensitive to coeliac needs and other dietary requirements. The waiting staff were very professional and efficient and couldn’t do enough to make sure we had a great meal - which we did! Cannot fault this place, we will be back.

The restaurant was lovely and clean, and you had the option of eating in or taking away. Food was freshly prepared to a high standard The staff were really efficient. The atmosphere was great. Would highly recommend The prawn cocktail was really good the best I have tasted so far

Absolutely overwhelmed by how good the food was.... We normally eat at The Magpie but had a dog with us and Magpie aren't dog friendly.. So we tried Mister Chips.... And we will be back.... They don't just serve basic fish and chips. There is an extensive menu and a specials board. We had a Seafood stew and a Seafood chowder... Served with toasted sourdough bread... Amazing.

Wasn't impressed with the chips. They were small, tasteless, and over cooked in my opinion.

came to whitby for a day out with my parents and stumbled across this lovely restaurant and takeaway. after walking through the door and instantly being welcomed warmly by the sweet and attentive staff we were promptly shown to our table. the menu had a whose variety of options (even fish free options!!) i had the lasagne which was wonderful, my parents both had the cod which was perfectly battered and crispy. overall i found that mister chips is definitely the best chippy in whitby!!

Wow… what an amazing restaurant. Not only is the food gorgeous, but so are the waitresses! I will definitely be returning. Great, fast service and I wonderful environment.

OMG this place was absolutely beautiful i visited for a takeaway and the blonde girl who served me was lovely she was polite and willing to help me she helped me put my food in the bag and the frying was very quick. The food was of the best quality don’t waste your time going to papas yes it is cheaper but it is nothing on mister chips. The staff behind the range were all so polite and friendly and were willing to offer to help with my allergy to milk, gluten and peanuts they checked all of there packaging to make sure my crispy, succulent and delicious fish chips and curry sauce didn't include anything of the above, i loved this food and i will be paying another visit and if you dont come visit then your a fool 🙈

Hands down this is the best fish casserole i’ve had in a long long time ! The flavours were sensational! Couldn’t rave about it enough to all my friends back home! 10/10 service from the very attentive staff that were extremely welcoming and patient when my older relatives where deciding what to order - they ended up going for the trio of seafood and it looked delicious. Will definitely be back 100% when visiting whitby again. Thankyou Mister Chips !

The food is very well presented and tastes unreal, staff are very polite and friendly. Our young blonde waitress was lovely and chatty . Would definitely recommend

Had a lovely walk from the Whitby abbey. A young girl with a big smile showed us our table. There is so much choice on the menu and special board. Service was fast. I had the fisherman’s cassarole and my husband had gammon. It was all piping hot and very good portion size. The waitress checked if everything was ok and of course it was.

I ordered the gammon steak, the egg was perfectly cooked. The chips were perfect soft in the middle with a nice crunch. I like my gammon salty and it seemed to be smoked which is the superior gammon imo. Would visit again if in Whitby maybe to try the sirloin steak. Price was good for portion size also.

There is no baby change facility and only two toilets. When my daughter had an ill timed poonami it was a disaster. People were banging on the door and when I explained why I was taking so long to get out only a nice man waiting to use the loo explained why, and no staff intervened. It was a stressful experience, the food was ok but I recommend getting take away if you have babies or young children.

Last two times I have had take-away here it has been very disappointing. The first of these times we put it down to just an off day for the shop but the second time was awful. The Fish was far smaller than usual and was very watery and grey, it tasted so 'odd' that we binned three fish and chips. For a few years we have nearly always got our fish from here, after these two episodes and the prices they charge for it, it is unacceptable and we will never go back.

Came recommended by a friend and wasn't disappointed. Food was amazing, freshly cooked and delicious. Service a little slow but we wasn't in a rush. Generous portions and all 9 of us thoroughly enjoyed everything we had. Restaurant was clean and staff very pleasant.

Had takeaway from here. Got the order wrong,food was just about warm at best. Was very keen to try fish and chips from Whitby as it’s traditional but won’t be having it again.

Probably the best fish & chips I’ve ever eaten. The young waitress said she’d only been working there since February but you couldn’t fault the service - efficient, friendly and smiling despite being rushed off her feet. Other staff seemed similarly friendly and welcoming. It’s definitely top of our list for fish and chips in Whitby👍👍

We had booked a table in the restaurant. But unfortunately it hadn't been put in the book. So the owner booked us in for the following evening and gave us a complimentary meal .We were so impressed with the service and the kind offer of a complimentary meal.we recommended it to our b&b owners who booked for six people the following evening. They didn't know there was a restaurant attached to mr chips. They were very impressed and are planning on adding mr chips to there portfolio of recommended places to eat.Thank you all at mr chips for your fantastic customer service and quality food. You are our favorite place to eat in whitby and looking forward to seeing you again soon

We thought we would try somewhere different as would normally go to trenchers for our get togethers, we all wish we had, not one thing about it was nice, not one of us will ever go near it again.

Travelled to come back here as the food was good..if you're closed why not put it on Google!! Would save people's time and effort.

I have to change this review to reflect my purchase of fish and chips twice last night the 3rd November, I went to have 2 x large cod and chips and was offered to ready cooked medium portions which I mistakenly accepted. On arrival home we opened the lovely smelling food to find it was a scrappy piece of inedible fish in a thick batter coating masking the size and quality of the food see picture attached.. so to anyone who checks reviews always check your getting what you paid for. It was in total contrast to the food we purchased a few nights previous which was Great fish and chips, good portions and lovely customer service, not my recommended food stop when visiting the seaside town of Whitby.

My family had been here before and rated it, so they took me on a return trip. There was some sort of fish and chip deal that most of us got, and several options for the veggies were available. Service was quick and friendly enough.

They have gone cheap. Got the small haddock and chips and a cup of tea 1 slice of bread. The food came out looked like a large fish finger. No garnish lemon or anything just the fish on top of the chips which were cold. I complained they gave me hot chips. The haddock was tasteless. For £10.95 it was disappointing. Our granddaughters didn't drink the free juice it was like water and warm. The 1 star is for the staff giving me my meal for free which I hardly touched. So many fish and chip shops in Whitby I will never go in there again. Very poor

Lovely food. Honestly the best we have EVER had in Whitby. Much better than papas or the magpie. Prices are fair. Portions are HUGE and absolutely worth every penny. Staff were polite and quick.

Ordered takeaway. Fish was cooked fresh, looked as if chips were as well but they weren’t overly hot so were maybe reheated. Nice bit of cod but didn’t taste overly fishy. Batter was light. Could taste the oil on the chips and the fish but it wasn’t dripping. Was nice, but not the best I’ve had.

Fantastic fish supper. Really enjoyed the batter still being crispy when we got it home.

Disappointing. Really fancied some scampi and checked out best places to head for as there are obviously lots. Settled on this place based on good reviews, only takeaway. Service was average, felt quite inefficient, and we were just told to wait by the railings on the opposite side of the road, I'd assumed because they needed to put the scampi on but that wasn't explained. Sadly it wasn't worth the wait, scampi was burnt and chips were average. Would not recommend for takeaway at least, perhaps the restaurant service/food is better.

Delicious delicious food (huge portions )and I've previously rated this place as a 5* but the service was the worst I've had in a long time. Happy to amend review if you can confirm this would actually be resolved. Wednesday evening server, young girl with blonde hair, who clearly we were too much effort for, asked "yes?" If we stopped her for something. Was exasperated that we hadn't chosen our food within a minute of getting menus. It felt like one of those dining experiences where you sign up for the worst service you can get.

Went here due to the hype and our experience was well below par. Food was good, BUT I asked for double battered sausage and chips and to be honest for the £9 I paid I think I got a kids meal, sausage a jumbo cut in half and chips barely covered the plate. The service was terrible and place had the atmosphere of a cemetery, we could hear the goings on in the kitchen and when the girl serving tried to turn on what looked like a speaker while standing on the seats and then the table where people eat, and after failing to turn on music did not even wipe the table down. NiCE. The young lady also did not seam to want to be there. I could see that not many tips wère left to which I could see that she was not best pleased with, but with every new table brings a fresh customer and the quicker the turn around the better chance to earn those tips, (yes i was a waiter in my uni years ). So I knew what she was going through, although after walking to the till and asking to pay the bill, being asked to sit down and after 10mins her rushing up stating she had forgotten about us, her tip went from 20% of the bill to ZERO. Again food was good but should I visit the shop again I will order from the chip shop as I think I will get more chips and better service. But again that is if I go back.

First time at Mr Chips. Popped in for a rake out to eat the pub near by, Endeavour. Perfect fish and chips and great value for money. Friendly staff and quick service. Will be back.

Previously visited and had a great meal but after a recent visit I don't think it's as good. Chips were great, but the fish had very floury uncooked batter to it which put me off. Would probably try somewhere else next time we go to Whitby.

We travelled from Sheffield to this fish & chip shop; really crispy batter, flaky fish and nice chips. We have visited many times and it has never disappointed us once. I highly recommend it.

We went here after the Capt Cook Museum visit. Some of the best seafood we have had in a long time. Fresh, well cooked and good service. Try the triple seafood meal or the fish stew. Highly Recommended.

We had the trio of scallops ,prawns and cod with mixed veg salad and medium haddock. Chips and mushy peas , this is the second time we have been here ! Very clean and fish cooked perfectly beautifully tender and not over cooked!! We were told to go to the magpie , and we were pleased with our decision!food was fabulous cooked well and staff attentive , thank you x

We came for tea tonight my wife had prawn salad which looked amazing and plentiful. I had the large cod and chips with mushy peas , never in 53 years have I ever struggled to eat fish n chips. When I say the fish was big I mean BIG , tasted lovely tho . If your planning on going then I'd book , it gets busy. Tho we didn't wait too long for a table, I'd book next time . Reasonable prices for the portions , and presentation was perfect. The staff are friendly n nothing is too much . Currently food comatosed back in our cottage. Definitely one to visit again

Waited 10 mins for a table but no issue as it was busy. Once seated discovered a couple of squashed chips under the table/seat, slip hazard when standing up. Service was prompt and pleasant. I can forgive the wait and the mess under the table as they were busy but my wife's and my Jumbo Cod and chips were, no exaggeration, the thinnest fish i have ever had. More batter than fish for £16.99! My daughter had the Special, Small Cod and chips at £11.99, more and thicker fish than ours! Mushy peas that we ordered didn't materialise either. The taste was pleasant enough, food and tea/coffee all hot. Overall, I was disappointed as the reviews suggested a better experience.

We have been visiting this fish shop for many years as we considered it the best one in Whitby. We visited on 12 Sept 23 and were very disappointed in both fish and chips and the service.

I booked my partner & I a table for dinner during Bank Holiday weekend end of August. We had fresh oysters & then mussels to start & just didn't want them to end they were outstanding! For mains we both had scampi which was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere is really friendly & the staff are really lovely. I recommend anyone visiting Whitby to dine in Mister Chips for a fantastic night out!

The fish and chips are the best, very light batter not greasy at all.

Unsurprisingly, this was a very popular restaurant. My husband and I both had gluten free fish and chips and can honestly say they are up there in the top few of the best gf fish and chips we have ever had. The staff are friendly and helpful and the gluten free fish and chips are delicious. So good that we went twice during our week's holiday in Yorkshire.

Spoilt for choice for restaurants in Whitby but heard of good reviews for mister chips. I had the trio of seafood and my partner had the scampi.absolutely delicious food and reasonably priced

Very tense being in thia place ,staff don't seem to get on together and you don't get a friendly feeling ,wanted a decent fish and tried here and unfortunately it wasn't cooked to standards .don't waste your time and money at this one ,the other Mr chips near the beach front however is awesome .
