Delicious fish & chips, friendly & welcoming staff. Good selection of gluten free options. Really generous portions & good value for money - we were stuffed! Dog friendly. Would definitely recommend!

Really nice place with friendly staff on both occasions. I had the full chicken parm which is amazing and will always recommend to anyone.

Visited 16th November food tasted ok but on way home (2 hour drive) developed severe food poisoning constant vomiting for 2 hours. Had to pull of A64 and let my daughter take over driving Took me straight to hospital where symptoms became worse resulting in fainting and being hooked up to a drip before being discharged 12 hours later. I contacted them they gave me a number to ring which wasn't answered I suggested they refund cost of meal no response. Hospital confirmed food poisoning contacted requesting refund reasonable request considering cost of valeting the car which was soaked in vomit and again ignored. I WOULD NEVER EAT HERE AGAIN

Probablemente el peor pescado con papas fritas de la historia y definitivamente en Whitby. Pescado insípido cubierto de un montón de masa grasienta. Chips pequeños y duros y un poco de salsa de curry de sabor extraño. Tan decepcionado cuando desenvolví mi cena.

Couldn’t make up our minds between Magpies, Trenchers or Royal Fisheries. Decided on Mr Chips due to online reviews, being a bit more local and dog friendly. Given a lovely window seat with views of the sea. It certainly did not disappoint. Lovely cosy friendly popular restaurant slightly away from touristy area. We ordered large cod and regular cod with home made tartare sauce followed by home made sticky toffee pudding. Large fish and chips was huge. It included pot of tea tartare sauce and mushy peas. The food was outstanding. Reasonable prices. Don’t forget to bring cash to tip the lovely waiters. Would definitely go again. This place should have a higher rating. One of the best places we’ve eaten at in a long time.

We were looking forward to our fish and chips,after such good reviews.How very disappointing.Possibly the worst fish and chips that I've ever had. Double the amount of batter to fish, which was hard and overcooked, the chips were small and hard. Perhaps a one off but it's certainly put me off going again . It was a takeaway, otherwise I would have said something at the time. Wouldn't recommend.

My wife and I ate there last night and both had Cod and chips. Service is quick and friendly, the restaurant pleasant and (very) clean. Our fish was beautifully fresh with light, crispy batter. Chips nice and crispy. Plenty enough for us each with a normal sized portion. Value wise I don’t think anybody could complain. Two big pots of tea, a large bottle of sparkling water, two cod and chips, bread and butter, mushy peas, gravy, and tartar sauce for under £40. Eating in and at that quality it’s a bargain. Calling the best chippy in Whitby is controversial. People have strong opinions but for us Mr.Chips is the place to go.

Esto solía ser mi opción - a chippy cuando visito Whitby y lo que una diferencia hace un año! He estado viniendo a Whitby al menos una vez al año durante la última década y hasta esta visita habría recomendado este chippy cada vez, desafortunadamente ya no más Tenía una salchicha rebozada y patatas fritas al visitar y aunque la salchicha era buena (es difícil equivocarse, seamos justos) pero las patatas fritas eran muy pobres. Definitivamente no fresco y exagerado Tengo una sospecha furtiva de que esto se debe al tipo de chip utilizado, ya que durante mi estancia de una semana me di cuenta de una furgoneta de mayoristas rojos picando por la ciudad, y el estándar de chips eran definitivamente más bajos que en años anteriores. El pescado también era muy pobre como sugieren otros de mi grupo, muy delgado y seco

Realmente decepcionado con el fish & chips que compramos para llevar de Mister Chips mientras estaba en un día en Whitby recientemente. Eran insípidos, el pescado era principalmente rebozado y extremadamente duro y seco. Desperdicio total de dinero, ya que terminamos tirando la mayoría de ellos, ya que eran tan desagradables. Definitivamente NO recomendaría.

What a rip off! £13 for two portions of chips and a piece of fish the size of a fish finger. Could learn a lot from the chippies in Redcar!

Six of us went to Mr Chips on Friday the 8th of November and 2 dogs 🐕 it is a lovely place staff very friendly and the food was delicious 😋 coffee and hot chocolate were lovely would definitely recommend and hopefully will be back 🙂 thank you 😃

Llamamos a la comida para llevar para algunos pescados con papas fritas para compartir, mientras caminamos en Whitby. Se sugirió que deberíamos optar por las picaduras de pescado y patatas fritas en su lugar. Las picaduras de pescado eran básicamente solo rebozado, no mucho pescado en absoluto. Realmente decepcionado con la comida, fue la peor comida para llevar de fish and chips que he tenido. El costo también es caro, así que me temo que es muy pobre.

We had a lovely meal here on the evening. We thought we would have something different and ordered a lasagne and a creamy prawn and chorizo pasta. Both were very nice. The pasta was particularly nice. The service was great and the waitresses were attentive and helpful. The food is reasonably priced. I would recommend this place for any meal.

This place serves the best fish & chips in whitby, if you are visiting the area you can't go wrong eating here, it is a busy restaraunt so pre booking is advised, the staff are very polite

Fish a bit watery. Batter great. Out of 4 of us 2 had a good plate of chips and 2 had misfits.

Had the £12.95 special (small fish and chips).the fish was small and I don't think good value. No problem with the quality just the size. I have a motorhome and have had pensioners specials in various places and this was not the best value for money.

Has a really tasty lunch. Beautiful white cod and delicious batter. Coffee was nice and hot. Dogs allowed and the service was really, will definitely go again and have already recommended them to our friends. Keep up the excellent food and service.

Mr chips in whitby is the place to go for your fish and chips .the service is second too none from going in to leaving at end of meal. I always go here when I'm in whitby..the girls always make sure you are satisfied with your meal and have everything you want. The atmosphere makes you feel welcome and comfortable. The fish and chips are so tasty .they welcome dogs also if you have one with you .

He estado visitando Whitby durante más de 25 años y siempre he tenido Fish and Chips en otros establecimientos conocidos. Sin embargo, este año tenía a mi perro conmigo, así que tuve que buscar una alternativa. Mister Chips fue bien recibido y lo más importante, era muy agradable para los perros, así que le di una oportunidad y no podía quejarme. Salí a media tarde, estaba ocupado, pero me las arreglé para sentarme de inmediato. El servidor era muy atento y tomó mi orden rápidamente. Solo tuve que esperar entre 10 y 15 minutos para que me sirvieran mi comida (Haddock and Chips) y debo decir que estaba deliciosa. Pescado blanco espeso y en escamas en una masa crujiente delgada. Se sirve piel en la que prefiero. Chips perfectos (sin grasa) Me pareció que la comida era muy sabrosa y a un precio razonable. Sin duda volveré.

Had takeaway which was tasty. Portions are big (a large portion of chips was shared between two of us but could easily have fed three). The gravy is lush.

Great place, friendly welcome, very nice food, prices similar to others in the area, certainly not a cheap bite but it has maybe a slightly more restaurant vibe than simply chippy. Some interesting and inventive dishes on the menu.

I was looking for a dog friendly fish and chip shop, and found Mister Chips to be perfect. Large plate full of delicious Fish and Chips. Staff very friendly, service was excellent 👌

We have been going to this takeaway chip shop for a few years now, and the fish and chip have been lovely, but the last few times we have been, we felt that the chips and fish have become more greasy, the fish is lovely but the batter is a little to greasy, for what they cost they could taste nicer, we got to the point that they are getting over priced and will not be having any more.

Dinner for three on a wet, cold Monday evening in Sept. Small fish and chips was perfect for elderly parents. Batter on the fish was light and crispy, the best mother has had in years. Luxury fish pie was the best fish pie I’ve eaten in my 50years on this earth!! Fantastic flavours for the ice cream and sorbet (I recommend raspberry sorbet and the raspberry cheesecake ice cream). Service was outstanding, the two servers working were professional, courteous and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. A perfect place for dinner in Whitby, don’t bother going to other seafood restaurants, you’ll regret it.

Eaten here a couple of times and food and service excellent, wider choice of fish compared to many with just Cod or Haddock. Hake, Plaice and Skate and others also on menu.

The fish and chips at Mister Chips are first class. The fish are superbly fried with a thin crispy batter, therefore not greasy. The chips were also very good as they have lovely clean savoury taste.

We have been eating here for about ten years now. For me it’s the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Service and food are always ten out of ten can’t wait for our next weekend away in Whitby to go again!

Was amazing, from walking through the door all the way through to walking back out again. The service was possibly the best I've ever experienced not only with ourselves but with other customers inside the restaurant. The food was so good that every other place we have been to since just isn't as good. I think we will have to return every time we visit Whitby. We were served by Danielle who was extremely attentive. She was smiling every time she came over to our table and was friendly even when one of us couldn't decide what they actually wanted. Thank you very much. We will be back

We were visiting for the day and wanted Whitby fish and chips. We had seen a sign stating that the best fish and chips one side of the bridge was Mister Chips and the best the other side was Mister Chips, this made us smile. We ate in, we were welcomed and shown to a table, we were served quickly, the food was piping hot and very tasty. There was a very varied menu but we wanted traditional food on this occasion. We can definitely recommend this restaurant.

Called here yesterday after being treat disgusting at fish cottage in Sandsend and I must say other than the seagulls dive bombing us outside the food was great, the guy serving us was lovely, I would recommend and I'd definitely go back again

Brought my mam here for her birthday and came back a week later as it was so good. Great fish and chips but also the best Parmo outside of teesside.

Went here for lunch as the weather was bad but we had our minds set on fish and chips. My partner is vegetarian, and the options were huge. They got the chips and onion rings and they were more than happy to accomodation of putting cheese on the chips. We thought the food was a bit pricey but when they arrived the portions were huge. The haddock was light and fresh and tasted amazing. All the food was delicious. The service was good, all the staff were really friendly and attentive. Made us giggle when we heard a chef sing the calgon song😭 Seemed like a vibe to work at. Thank you for making our experience so wonderful!

Best place of all we tried in Whitby. The steak and ale pie was an explosion of taste, the mussels in cream so delicious, the fish&chips had the most satysfying crust ever and our attendant Molly was helpful, kind and lovely and made us feel so uplifted after we had a long and tiring day. Marvellous!

The food was so good we went here twice whilst in whitby for the weekend. Scallops were outstanding as was the cajun chicken linguini. There were 12 of us who ate here and we were all discussing how good the food and service was. Looking forward to returning!

Fish and chips were nice.you can go to many fish and chip shops in town and they taste the same. Staff did have an attitude, which did spoil the meal. Better places to eat in whitby.

What happened to this chippy, fish was like it had been rolled out then battered, curry what on earth is tomato curry, it was foul, the batter was tough and chewy, won't be going back, shame really 😞

Really disappointed in the service. Came for my Grandmothers 87th birthday. The blonde lady said they don’t do tables for 6. Even though there were others with larger parties. We were quite happy to sit a 4 and a 2 (which there were two unreserved tables next to each other) but she wanted to separate us as one table held 3 and said that’s an extra persons seat. Which I understand one more person could have of ate there however you had 6 people and two dogs which is 8 meals and then drinks. The lady was like it’s these seats or none. I can’t believe how rude she was. Really disappointed with the customer service. Also states dogs are welcome but she went ‘ah dogs’ they are so well behaved and small they would have been under the table and fed them with the meals we bought when we left. The whole vibe was awful tbh. I would recommend at all. We ended up in a pub with 5* service and our bill was over £140! Which you lost out on. Hope some training for the blonde lady is provided. Guess she wanted to be off on a bank holiday!

We visited on a Wednesday lunch time in August. It was 11:45 and the restaurant was already busy which was a good sign. We got a table and I ordered large haddock and chips with the rest of the party having Sausage and chips and chicken nuggets and chips. The food was beautiful for all the chips golden and crispy and the fish was huge and one of the best I've ever tasted. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout and we will definitely visit again!

Ordered from their takeaway earlier today, the lady serving me was absolutely lovely and the food was great with really quick service, nothing to complain about on that part. The reason this is not a 5 star review is that whilst I was waiting for my food, I observed a man point me out to two other male staff members. Whether it was my alternative style or my blue hair I couldn’t tell you, but I definitely did not feel welcomed by their facial expressions. I even heard one of them look at me and say ‘ugh no’. Disgraceful. Its 2024 and coming from a place with annual goth and steam punk events, it was as if these men had never seen anything but an adidas tracksuit. And yeah, I can see you, and I can hear you. Your opinions are your own but have some professionalism at least. You work at a chip shop, not a zoo.

First and last time here got 2 fish bites and chips fish was lovely the chips where horrible hard scraps very little even eatable and it cost £31 quid with extras most of it was chucked away really disappointed with this chip shop

Absolutely the best Chicken Parmesan we have ever had the pleasure of consuming. Fresh, homemade ingredients especially the garlic sauce and all done to perfection. Staff really attentive and helpful Will definitely return

Went here on 28th July Bday treat, not to busy, ordered am garlic muscles, fish and chips, wife just ordered small fish and chips. 25 mins to get the muscles, over salted. Further 15 mins for fish and chips, slice bread each, portion each mushy peas, pot of tea to share. The fish was nice, for the chips we wasted just scraps, if not for my birthday, would sent back. Never gain.

What a fantastic restaurant. I ordered a fish platter thinking it was going to be small pieces of different fish. It wasn't it arrived and it was 4 lovely pieces of different fish. Absolutely beautiful. The staff were amazing and even though it was very busy not a long wait. Don't miss this great place when you visit Whitby

My favourite takeaway fish and chip restaurant in Whitby. Usually a bit of a queue at peak times but that's because it's really good.

First time visit very greasy ,fish grey with no flavour but chips were fantasic pineapple ring hard and again no flavour

A superb Fish and Chip Restaurant with an excellent menu. I had my haddock & Chips with a duvel- Mrs Farthing had her crab salad with proseco.Perfect! I you want to tip the waitors bring cash as theres no charge for service.Next time we go back we will both go for the King Prawn/ scallops!Total gem.
