We stopped off here after seeing excellent reviews online and it certainly didn’t disappoint. We both had a coffee with a lemon curd and cream scone. We’ve been craving another since having it and would highly recommend this place if not for the scone but also the views and very friendly staff

Fantastic spot right by the roadside and with a stunning view of Melvich beach. Staff are very friendly and great for a chat. Will be dropping in next time we pass!

Great Latte and Flat White to start day two of the NC500! Hot and strong. Lovely staff who were happy to chat. Thank you for making a couple of decent coffees.

Nice stop shame about the owner. They clearly have an issue with cyclists. We spent £12 on food and coffee but owner refused to refill our water bottles from tap and made us fill up from local toilet over the road. First cafe to ever refuse this request in many years cycling shame on you.

Today was far from a first for us. We frequent the beautiful scenery between Thurso and Tongue several times annually. Stopping off for a break here has become routine. Why? The coffee is just so good, the hot chocolate delicious and the ice cream scrumptious. It is “take away only”, a drawback on the one hand, but on the other hand, the reduced overheads enables the owners to sell a superior product for a very competitive price . There are benches and tablets outside (there we sat on this end-of-November day in the North Coast of Scotland! We could have sat back in the car, but opted for clean, fresh air!) Highly recommended!

I’ve been coming to Portskerra/Melvich from the US since I was a kid but there has never been a lot of places to get a bite to eat, so this adorably quaint coffee shop is an incredibly welcome addition! The shop is stylishly decorated, meticulously cared for and the food is delicious - had a yummy homemade tattie soup and a tuna sandwich on the fluffiest, freshest bread I’ve had in a while. Service was super warm, friendly and fast. (PS. I’ve heard the bacon rolls are divine.) Didn’t have a coffee but many people were in and out enjoying a great selection of espressos, cappuccinos and lattes. They have ice cream from Capaldi’s (of Golspie fame) and it think it might be my favorite ice cream of all time now - and I have a lot of amazing ice cream shops near where I live in NYC. Wow. (Get the salted caramel.) Oh, and they do milkshakes! It’s just an absolutely delightful wee cafe! Note: There are public toilets just nearby and a car park so if it’s a little nippy to use the plentiful outdoor seating, you can always eat comfortably in your car.

Visited Annie’s bakery whilst visiting up visiting family in Thurso. Amazing value for money alongside fabulous savouries and sweets. So much time and effort put into each. Transported plenty of goodies home to North Yorkshire, we will be back!! ☺️

We had some really delicious cake and tea. I would definitely recommend the banana chocolate cake and the apple caramel cake. The service was really nice and I would definitely stop there again.

Agree with the other reviews. This is an unlikely place to find at the end of the world. We felt welcomed and in the main enjoyed our stay. The only downside was the cost for the 2 of us. £200 for a snack, breakfast, plate of curry and a bunkhouse bed with no shower and a outside toilet seemed breathtaking expensive. To put this into perspective, we go to a nice hotel each year for a winter break, that's more than we pay per day at the hotel with vastly more civilized amenities. I do understand there are logistics involved at Cape wrath. However for an 'ordinary' local Scottish person I'd be looking to stay at sandwood bay and make a lunch trip to the cafe as I simply can't justify the cost/value. However, it is altogether improbably situated and a must experience if you are doing a long walk. Just be prepae your expectations.

Food was nice and service was, for the most part, friendly. One server seemed to be having a bad day. Brusque and barely civil. Very expensive for what was served.

We stayed at Taigh Ailean for our trip to Skye. We also had the opportunity to eat dinner there (Breakfast was included with our stay.) The dinner was so delicious! The view is lovely as you can see the loch from the windows of the bar. All the staff is fantastic and so friendly! I had a great dinner and I would describe it, but the menu changes to suit what is in season and available from the sea. Whatever you get, I guarantee it will be the best! Make sure you call ahead and get a reservation as it fills up quickly. I know that they also have live music, which would be great, but we didn't have any while we were there.
