Great service and excellent traditional English food. The owner and chef clearly make an effort to provide quality cooking. Best steak & ale pie I've had in years. Lovely views.

Used to come here regularly, but hadn't been for a while and it is now under new ownership so we wondered how much it had changed. Food was good, though not outstanding. The biggest change, however, was the change in the atmosphere and I can't put my finger on why. I definitely missed all the little curios that used to be on sale, but there was something else missing which, as I say, I just can't pinpoint. It's still good for a pitstop, but with the new cafe in the next road they face stiff competition so need to find something to draw people in. As it is, we'd go back, but only if in the area, and might even give the other cafe another try. We wouldn't make a journey to visit it specifically like we used to.

Great little cafe with good food and service. Inside and outside seating. We had lunch/cake/tea. There is also a full bar. Owners are very friendly. The decor is rather dated but don't let put you off

Exactly what we needed! Amazing breakfast and the staff were incredibly friendly. They made us and our young puppy feel comfortable. Really lovely place to stop off, can’t fault it.

Such a fantastic service. The kind gentleman serving couldn't have done more for us. The food was delicious, and they had such a variety that we ate at the coastguard cafe most mornings for the week of our holiday.

19 May had wonderful meal at cafe with my two dogs. Proprietor couldn’t have been more welcoming. An absolute must to visit!

Lovely spot, eat indoors or out, wide variety for food to cater for everything from cup of coffee to pie, mash and veg. Dog friendly, fab as it is near to so many good walks, and car park (paid) very close by.

Just popped into this cafe by chance and the friendliest and best service I've ever received. Didn't eat but food looked very good.

Another wonderful lunch today. As always, the veg was fresh and plentiful. Both the chicken and steak pies were packed full of filling. I followed this with an extremely moist lemon drizzle cake (and a taste of cheese cake). Both of which were delicious.

We held my parents 50th Wedding Anniversary here and Stephen was very helpful with all the arrangements leading up to the day, he wanted everything to run smoothly and to create a relaxed atmosphere. The day went very well with my parents really enjoying the afternoon. Stephen checked that everything was as we wanted it and his staff were very helpful. The pies seemed to be the favourite food of the guests. I would definitely recommend the venue.

This our very first visit to the Coastguards Cafe'. Parking is scarce and difficult but after discovering the Pay & Display opposite it was a short walk via a footpath. I am a Blue Badge holder which enabled free parking but others would have to pay. On entering the Cafe' we made our way to the Conservatory, the view from which we couldn't fault. The panarama and ambience was wonderful but when our food turned up it was a different story. I had the smoked salmon and cream cheese baguette whilst my Wife had a Quiche salad. Both meals had what looked like they had dogs hairs on them and the quiche was "soggy" as though frozen. The owner was OK about it with a soft apology. My Wife sent her plate back to the Kitchen which was quickly returned with the hair removed (no replacement food). When the bill appeared it came to £27.50p. No discount or recompense. There was also a presumptious service charge of £1.50 (6%) added on without our consent which we didn't asked to be removed but thought it an audacity considering. Unfortunately, first and last time at the Coastguard Cafe' without any form of recommendation. In our opinion, overpriced and overrated! !

Found this place on the walk from Hastings to Rye. So glad we did. Food was delicious and very good value, and the people there were super friendly. We were able to sit at the back next to the open windows on a boiling hot day, and it was perfect.

Nice place. Great menu. Attentive staff. I had an omelette which was cooked well. Will go back again. Reasonable prices too.

This is a lovely little gem of a cafe, just tucked away from the main carpark. You can watch the birds while dining and taking in the view.

We had our Mum’s wake here and Steve and his staff helped to make it a very special and personal experience. They were incredibly helpful and put on an amazing cream tea for everyone. The location is perfect with stunning views over the country park. It is truly a hidden gem that is worth checking out.

Two of us had lunch - quiche & macaroni cheese, sticky toffee puds, wine & coffee for a very reasonable price. We sat in the conservatory area overlooking the sea. We'll be going back again.

Fantastic accidental discovery after a long walk. Friendly welcome, extremely tasty sausage sandwich (from a local butcher I was told) and delicious local beer. Best cafe I’ve been to for a long time.

An outstanding find. The cream tea was the perfect size and the scones are to die for. The staff are really friendly and welcoming, and the view from the window is amazing. I could sit all day watching the ships in the channel sail past slowly and gracefully.

Lovely home cooked food, very welcoming although service can be a bit inconsistent at times. Dog friendly inside and out, with treats for the doggy customers 🙂🐕. Only about 100m along the path past the Grey Owl stone plaque, and a much nicer feel to it than the council run Bale house by the car park.

Great venue! A must for anyone visiting the area! The owner, Stephen, is a really nice guy, so genial and friendly. Amazing views of the coastline and surrounding countryside. If you visit Fairlight and you don't go to this establishment then you haven't really seen Fairlight!

A lovely and welcoming cafe, with just about everything I like. I had hot roast beef in a baguette which was perfectly cooked and juicy. My wife and I sat in the conservatory, which overlooked a beautiful garden and a lovely view across Fairlight and down towards the sea. My wife’s carrot cake was moist and delicious. The host was friendly and helpful. He gave us some absolutely spot on directions and walking advice. Couldn’t be happier.

I was looking for a nice cafe with a view to take my mum out to. We found it! Fabulous friendly service from the proprietor, great coffee and wonderful views. Also a great selection of extremely nice home-made cakes. My mum's not a huge cake-lover but really enjoyed her fruit cake (haven't seen her eat so much in quite a while), while my vegan raspberry ripple cake was absolutely delicious. Will definitely visit again. Thank you very much.

I used to visit the coastguard cafe a few years ago before the covid pandemic took the world by storm and it was a great friendly place with a lovely atmosphere. It closed down for whatever reason which may or may not have been covid related and another cafe not very far away which shall remain nameless took the business away, coastgaurd has recently reopend under new management and after using the other cafe for a few years and one day feeling annoyed at the service we tried the coast guard again and thoroughly enjoy the experience the food was good and varied, the service excellent and value for money

Stopped in for lunch halfway through a coastal walk, was everything we needed and more. Good food, attentive and friendly service with lots of helpful local knowledge. Not enough room for cake sadly but by all accounts it's worth it for them alone

Awful. Strange quiche with very soggy bottom, tired cardboard potatoes, gluey cheesecake, irritating owner.

We had ploughman's and went for the more expensive one with gherkins but there wasn't any and the coleslaw had a horrible tainted taste. This was not a ploughman's more like a salad with floppy lettuce and small amount of cheese and salty ham. Not good for the price charged won't be eating there again.

Such a warm welcome by the owner on a Sunday afternoon, after a trip to the beach, when we just fancied a piece of scrummy cake and cup of tea before our journey home. Very happy we stopped in and will definitely be back another time. The view is out of this world! Such a surprise, what a beautiful place to visit.

Lovely tearoom to have afternoon tea after a walk round the country park. Home baked cakes and scones. Many beautifully arranged paintings and craft items available to purchase. Changed hands since previous visit in 2019. Opened again in October 2021. New fresh feel to the place. Excellent very friendly service. Delicious cakes to choose from. We were seated overlooking garden, country park and sea. Very relaxing visit.

Warm and friendly greeting on arrival. It was a hot day, so sat on the balcony with the windows open wide. View was very pleasant and our scones were tasty. The menu was large and varied. We'll definitely be going again.

Very warm welcome, friendly and kind owner, great breakfast, pot of tea, cappuccino were hot and good, lovely setting in pretty village, hidden away and very recommended, close to the country park. Loos are really clean and scented.

Went there to meet an old colleague. We both had coffee which was very good. Staff were friendly and polite, it was not expensive, and it was very clean throughout.

The host, Steve, was so accommodating and friendly and the food was delicious. The views are wonderful. Well worth a visit.

TLDR: the food took an hour to get to us, it wasn't very good, the staff wasn't very apologetic and it cost a lot for what it was. Visited the Coastguard Cafe for lunch, waited an hour for the food to arrive. When we finally got the food it was not worth the wait. Cheap white sliced bread (we weren't given any option for brown bread) and the breakfast was poor value for £10, the club sandwich was almost inedible. I won't be coming back any time soon!

02/01/22 first visit and we were not disappointed. A more welcoming host you could not wish for - he made us and Charlie dog so very welcome - he even asked us if the background music was to our taste! Can’t go wrong with a bit of George Benson! Fantastic coffee - the owner asked us how we like our coffee - milky for me and strong for my Mister 😁 superbly cooked full English breakfast with plenty of hot lightly cooked toast - it was all just perfect! Wonderful view from the conservatory - this chap deserves to do well because he was so nice and served delicious food at a good price. Please support good, open-minded small independent businesses like this in these difficult times - it’s good for them and good for your soul 🥰

Weve been a few times and are getting to know the Owner Steve. He is so accommodating. On a previous visit I said my husband and I like Baileys, so he bought some in, when he knew we were coming in. The Vegan cakes are amazing. Moist, not too sweet or sickly. All 4 of us loved them. The Christmas Dinner we had was gorgeous and the Turkey was moist and juicy. Probably the best I've ever had. The light Christmas Pud was so lovely we bought 4 portions home. Also loved the mulled wine. Coastguards will be our regular for sure. Going to try the breakfasts this week. Bravo to Steve and the team.

We loved it, we have been going there for years, the food was good, the people are friendly & the cakes are to die for! But we are desolated to have to report that the cafe has now closed and the building is for sale! We are very sad about this but with the present situation it is not to be wondered at.

A gem of a find thanks to Google maps! Friendly service. Had a very tasty cheese and onion toastie and a piece of delicious homemade lemon cake. All at a very reasonable price. Definitely recommend it.

Lovely home made food oldy worldy look nice hot drinks

Tables were wonky, the decor looked old. Half the cafe is filled with merchandise and the food didn't taste very good. I only had a jacket potato and beans and it was awful
