Cannot fault coarse. Outrageously good price and the food and service is outstanding. We were so lucky we managed to get a place from the waiting list a few days before, so make sure you book well in advance if you want to go!

Our third visit and each time the food and service has been first class. The staff are all very knowledgeable about the food and drink and give a good explanation for each course and drink. Only downside it was a little cool and music too loud. Small price to pay for an excellent meal.

Absolutely top draw. Food was varied and each coarse had its on style but complimented what came before and after. Service was excellent with the staff Happy to describe each dish and helpful when asked more in depth questions. The atmosphere was excellent considering the restaurant was full. Even though it was busy it felt a very personal experience.

Went for lunch and it didn't disappoint. Every course was lovely. Service was great, really prompt without feeling rushed and the staff give an overview of what's in each course as they serve it. Place had a nice buzz on a Friday afternoon. Highly recommend

I think Coarse has nearly everything right - atmosphere, food (obviously), comfy chairs, nice cutlery, just things that you notice that adds up to a good experience. The rhubarb/ice cream/pistachio dessert is amazing...

Wonderful experience at Coarse. Our first time visiting and we’ll definitely be back. The whole team were friendly and knowledgeable when serving each course or wine. We chose the tasting menu with the extra course and my husband had the wine pairing. The food and drinks was delicious, balanced and amazing value for the quality and effort that had clearly gone into every dish. We had a taster lunch menu - food delicious, staff very helpful , knowledgable and pleasant. Only comment tables were a little close together near the kitchen area where we sat. Overall it was a very pleasant experience.

We had an excellent dinner at Coarse. Each dish was delicious and we particularly enjoyed the Coarse Cream Egg. We opted for the extra fish dish and were pleased we had as it was fantastic too! The food here is as good as (if not better than) some of the meals that we have eaten at Michelin star restaurants. We enjoyed the wine package and the waiter clearly explained the wines we were served. The staff were excellent, very friendly, pleasant and dealt with my nut allergy efficiently without a fuss. This is a great little restaurant that gets very busy and booked up well in advance.

As the title says, this is how restaurants should be. A carefully thought through menu, with food that makes the taste buds truly tingle, quality over quantity. We didn't do the wine pairing this time but we certainly will next. Couldn't recommend more. A charming experience.

Our 3rd visit to Coarse and the best yet. Lunch menu with the supplementary course is great value for the excellent standard of food on offer. They offer a vegetarian version of the lunch and tasting menu, which is so well designed (not an after thought with substitutes) and full of flavour. Every course (plus pre starter) was amazing, but the veggie supplementary course of ravioli in carrot and blood orange was the most divine dish I've tasted in a long time.

The best menu yet! Coarse just keeps on going from strength to strength with new & interesting dishes & flavour combinations that continue to delight the tastebuds. More often than not, your favourite dish ends up being one you wouldn’t guess beforehand. A true delight! I’ve never had a disappointing experience here & would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone & everyone! Excellent value for money too. I would have rated it higher than 5 if I could!

We came for lunch and had the 6 course tasting menu which was £45pp. It was a nice meal but the food wasn’t particularly hot which was a shame as we could see the chefs cooking everything fresh. I believe it may have been as food was sat on the pass for a while. Also, I don’t think the vegetarian menu was particularly good value as it was the same price as my husband’s meal and he had fish and meat which obviously costs more than broccoli! We are glad we tried it but I don’t think we would return.

This was a special night for us and Coarse did not let us down. Each dish was served with a detailed explanation of the ingredients etc so that we knew exactly what we were eating. The food was really delicious and we enjoyed every dish. The beef was particularly special as was the cream egg desert. We definitely recommend this restaurant for a special event. Check the menu as it changes quite regularly.

New menu is well-balanced, inventive and delicious. Favourite course was the beef or was it the pudding - it’s impossible to say - we loved it all!

Absolutely fantastic meal at coarse this evening. The food was incredible - well-balanced, thoughtful food taking unassuming ingredients and delivering exceptional, mouthwatering dishes. The fantastic food was appropriately matched by the exemplar service. This evening we were sat on the 2 person table just to the right as you step in from the front door and were served by two women and a young lad. All three were a credit to coarse - kind, warm and knowledgeable in their service. We are unlikely to have a reason to return to Durham, and it makes me feel genuinely sad to think we may never eat in coarse again. If you are wondering whether to give it a go or not - do it: I am sure you won’t regret it.

This is probably the best value tasting menu I've ever had. The menu was thought out and tasted fantastic. I opted for the wine paring and that was explained for each course and was surprising. Miles above anywhere else in Durham for fine dining.

Wonderful food, nice to try so many different courses through the night. Was there for 3 hrs and enjoyed every minute. We'll be booking for our anniversary for May. Recommend booking well in advance because it's so popular. Really friendly staff.
