The authentic Italian food is amazing.

What a delicious yummy dinner; thank you Holly and staff! From our appetizers (3 types of bruschetta, my brother's parsnip soup), to our mains (my supremely divine ravioli, the tortellini and my brother's pizza) to our delicious desserts (Basque cheesecake, meringue fruit and cream) every morsel was awesome, as you can tell by the empty plates! The added touches worthy of any five-star international restaurant, were very much appreciated. We had prosecco to start, and the shot of Bailey's was a wonderful finish to our whole evening, a Christmas gift from my nephew Niall, nieces Erin and Roisin. We will definitely return! Highly recommended.

We booked the monthly Saturday supper club. The evening was perfect! Seating is limited in the gorgeously styled bakery, tucked away in a terraced street. But what they lack in size , they make up in quality! The food was presented beautifully in vintage crockery and tasted as good as it looked. Service was excellent. Would definitely book again.

Nice food a bit quiet when i was in but food was great

I hadn’t been to The Olive Stone until recently moving locally. We’ve tried their paninis which are delicious and a good amount of filling, not meagre like chain cafes. I recommend the bacon and Brie! We also tried their pizzas as a takeaway on Friday evening and they were absolutely delicious. The pizza base itself is lovely and light and the fillings were high quality and generous. It’s becoming our go to Italian cafe.

Lovely little place. We had pizza and a sandwich for lunch. The pizza was freshly made proper pizza (definitely recommended!) Some cannoli and coffee for afters, again very tasty, the cannoli was a bit hard. There wasn't any dedicated parking, but plenty of street parking available on a Sunday. Prices are very reasonable.

Very friendly, quiet and great food

An astounding gem! Staff are super friendly, lovely beautiful souls. And the food is similarly superb - delicious & fresh in equal measure. We found the food to be amazing plus absolutely fantastic coffees (americano, strong - cappuccino & hot choc, all lush). Deffo coming again, love this place

Just popped in for coffee after seeing other reviews on here and wasn’t disappointed x lovely coffee, very friendly and efficient young man served us and although full I simply had to buy a cheese, salad and chutney sandwich for later!

Small intimate restaurant/cafe. The food is plain and simple but very fresh and tasty. The staff are very friendly and attentive. Definitely be back

Went with a group of 4 last Saturday night for the 3 course supper club. Homemade mushroom soup, homemade lasagne and of course homemade pudding apricot crumble cheesecake. Everything is homemade and is delicious highly recommended

We’ve just been to the first ‘supper club’ here tonight. A three course meal for £20 but everything was home made, including the pasta. Only 12 seats inside so it was so small and perfect, the food was amazing. Can’t wait for the next one to be advertised, we’ll be there!

I reviewed this in 2017 and have been attending regularly ever since. It deserves a further review. Staff are friendly and helpful and the food is top quality. Corn beef and red onion pie is exceptional and not available often enough. I would highly recommend this place to eat in or eat out. Well done.

We were staying at a b& b nearby and took a short stroll to the Olive Stone. Very clean and , helpful, friendly staff. We both had a pizza and a hot drink. They were made to order and the service was excellent The pizza’s were beautiful and very filling. Lots of local people were nipping in for takeout while we ate in. Definitely worth a visit.

Fantastic cakes, flatbreads and coffee!

Very tasty sandwiches made to order, and massive pieces of cake. Wish I lived closer so I could visit regularly, although it's probably better for my waistline that I don't!

Absolutely love this bakery. Tasty bread and cakes and the man that works there is so nice and friendly. My three year old boy loves the cannoli too. Definitely recommend this place. Thank goodness it has stayed open for takeaway - the bread is too tasty to miss out on

Brilliant and true coffee! Had a slice of the Margherita and it was really nice and well balanced - I will have to try a full pizza! Covid notice: eat and shop small everybody help the local businesses!

Just had a most enjoyable visit to this little gem of a place. Had the before noon tea, everything served was fantastic tasting and fresh. Cannot comment enough on how great this place is for service and food.

A small but perfectly formed eatery and take a way . Absolutely delicious food and as im old fashioned a perfect cup of tea . I will return earlier so i can nab all the cakes .

We visited as a family for lunch as we were looking to try somewhere new. Coffee was nice, smooth taste. We had a sandwich which was really enjoyed, a quattro formaggi pizza that was tasty. Plenty people in and out, good to see a small local business.

Tried the afternoon tea here, it was amazing. Tasted devine. Staff very attentive and couldn't do enough for you. Would definitely recommend, can't wait to come back!

A homely little place a bit off the beaten track. A small Italian bakery/cafe that we visited for the first time following all the good reviews and we weren't disappointed.A very nice menu with lots of choice. We tried the coffee which was excellent as were the bacon sandwich and tuna sandwich.Bread was delicious, fresh and very filling.I'm sure we will be returning to try other options. Staff were very friendly efficient. Be aware there is only on street parking but don't let that put you off.

Always try to nip in when I can for the amazing gluten free muffins. They do go quickly and I'm not surprised as they are delicious!!

The olive stone was recommended to me many times since i moved back to burnopfield so on friday i called in with a friend who also eats here regular.the food and service from the lovely couple who own it is BRILLIANT..i will be returning with my friends.

Ok – you’re a workman or you’re an office worker – and it’s nearing lunch time; you fancy a sandwich. You could go to a Subway, a Cooplands or a Greggs; or you could go to the Olive Stone. If you want a sandwich with an authentic Italian taste – then you should try this place out. You can also get a coffee; I had their Americano – and it was the smoothest I’ve had in Stanley, equalling the Stables. This is like the Italian counterpart of Lanchester’s Kaffeehaus Amadeus; it’s really a speciality place. The prices are no higher than Greggs – but the quality is much better since they make the sandwiches fresh for you; you just have to wait a bit. I’ll give it a 5 since it needs support – being out of the way and the volume is low. Try their Olive bread.

Went for breakfast. Perfect cappucino and bacon and mushroom ciabetta. Bought a rosemary focaccia lush...will be a regular..Proper Italian

There food is amazing. It's an Italian family run business in tantobie. The service is great, you can either eat in or takeaway. The menu they have is fantastic. Everything is made fresh. Recommend this place highly.

A friend found this wee cafe on Tripadvisor today as we wanted somewhere nice for lunch to sit and chat. The staff are very nice and the cafe is very welcoming. The food - oh my god - are SO delicious. I had brie, bacon blueberry jam & rocket sandwiches - it’s really yummy! Worth a trip from Gateshead! Their cakes look really lovely, I had a bite from a friend’s cake: oh my! It’s so mouth melting! Hmm!

Such a great option to have nearby in tantobie. We like to pop in for lunch whenever we get chance and the pizzas are great on a night time. the owners are really friendly and theres always new options on the menu. would definitey recommend!

Quaint cafe serving authentic italian food with great service. The rustic decor and fantastic smell of the fresh food reminded us instantly of similar places we've been to in Rome. Loved it!

Love this place the breads are amazing

We really enjoy our visits to the olive stone, it's lovely to sit in, the pizza is lovely, cakes are amazing and coffee perfect. Couple who own the place are friend and it's very reasonable prices! Only problem is my 3 year old is insisting on going every Friday when I should be cleaning ......shame

Very small quaint coffee shop in Tantobie ran by a lovely young couple. All homemade breads, scones, cakes, artisan food with a hint of Italian cuisine as owner David is Italian.

Incluso hacer un trabajo maravilloso de platos ingleses, como sándwiches de tocino. Los viernes, la carne en conserva y cebolla empanadas rojo son absolutamente fantástica. Todo es con el más alto estándar y calidad excepcional. También recomiendo encarecidamente sus pizzas en las noches de viernes y sábados.

We've popped in for cakes, breads and pasties before (which are amazing, by the way) But last night was our first pizza run. Absolutely delicious! Friendly service too ! Will definitely be working a pizza night into our weekends now!

Live around the corner but never visited until now, didn't realise what I've been missing. Lovely little place with very friendly staff. The pizzas were gorgeous, so tasty and not expensive either. Wish I'd visited sooner.

Fantastic to have such wonderful food and coffee a few minutes drive away. The flavours are authentic, the prices reasonable, and the welcome always warm. I guarantee you won't be disappointed!

We went to the olive stone following the recommendation from a friend, we didn't sit in as we had the kids with us so we bought some cakes to take away, they were very tasty and I'd definitely go back again it's not very big so wouldn't go with the kids as our youngest was in her pram it would be a bit of squeeze. The staff are lovely and friendly which is a nice change locally.

I had the special sandwich with Taziki and pasta for take both were fresh and really tasty 1 word ..amazing.

Visited for the first time after passing it daily and wasn't disappointed. Wonderful high quality food in a nice cozy setting. Tea was served in fine China and the price was fantastic. Staff were friendly and very accommodating with picky requests to adapt their menu to our specific needs.Had a great time and will return again very soon
